Shiseido Face Color Enhancing Trio OR1 Peach review and photos.

Shiseido OR1 Peach.

This summer season has been so pleasurable, I find it difficult to confine myself indoors to my computer.  The same can be said about going into stores and makeup shopping; the allure of internet shopping has never been so appealing.  However, when I ran out of my Shiseido Facial Cottons, my no-indoor-policy was revoked and I immediately discovered a few other goodies along the way.  Enter Shiseido Face Color Enhancing Trio OR1 Peach ($37 USD/7g.)–this unassuming powder not only redefines subtle blush/highlight sophistication, but has inadvertently jump-started my blogging mojo. 🙂  Was this outing worth my time?  You’ll see.

Shiseido OR1 Peach.

Shiseido OR1 Peach .

Each shade was applied using 4 layers: Shiseido Face Color Enhancing Trio OR1 Peach swatched separately and blended together.

According to Shiseido:

An all-in-one compact with blush, sculpting and highlighting color creates a beautiful, glowing complexion in one simple stroke. Specialized colors and textures create a 3 dimensional look. Shades can be used alone or blended together.

The Pros to Shiseido Face Color Enhancing Trio OR1 Peach:

  1. Unbelievably lightweight texture and smooth finish.
  2. Softly pigmented formula suits lighter skins perfectly.
  3. The finely milled powder does not accentuate pores or fine lines.
  4. When applied with a dampened brush, the powder takes on a delicate pinky iridescence for more luminous results.
  5. Can be layered without looking overdone or caky.
  6. Suitable for layering over any matte blush or bronzer for added radiance.
  7. Accompanying brush is substantial, soft and dense.
  8. Becomes more radiant the more the powder is buffed into the skin.
  9. Formula does not contain any large shimmer or glitter particles.
  10. Lasted well on my dry skin for 8+ hours.
  11. Full length face mirror is wonderful for touchups.
  12. Comes in four color combinations:  PK1 Lychee, OR1 Peach, RD1 Apple, and RS1 Plum.
  13. Made in Japan.

The Cons to Shiseido Face Color Enhancing Trio OR1 Peach:

  1. Despite what the company claims, I found the colors too sheer to use separately for noticeable results (see swatches above).
  2. Due to the sheer formulation, layering is almost a prerequisite–not your typical swipe-and-go kind of a product.
  3. Due to the soft composition, powder kick-up is evident.
  4. This particular color combo can look ashy on darker skins if applied in excess.  An in-store visit is highly recommended to see which of the four-color combinations is suitable.
  5. Does not come in refillable pan form.
  6. For a company rooted in skincare, this powder is formulated with silicones, petrolatum, and parabens (a discovery I made after I fell hard for this powder).  Why Shiseido?

Shiseido OR1 Peach.

Shiseido Face Color Enhancing Trio packaging.

  • As you can tell, the packaging has an elongated, slim design with the company’s distinct Camellia Logo present on the bottom right hand corner.  Personally speaking, despite the understated elegance of this compact, a more scaled design (similar to their bronzer compact) would have suited my lifestyle better.

Shiseido OR1 Peach brush.

Shiseido brush

  • The modest star of this feature is the accompanying brush.  I know true makeup brush connoisseurs will scoff and think me silly, but I’m telling you this brush fits the contours of the face perfectly, and picks up just the right amount of product.  The soft, densely packed hairs are cut to a beveled angle at the top, perfect for holding and placing product exactly where one desires.
  • The fan-like brush shape is also outstanding for contour and bronzer application.  I have to say, the design and quality of this Shiseido brush far surpasses accompanying brushes found in other high-end compacts (looking at you Giorgio Armani Bronzer).

  • The finish of OR1 Peach is subtly luminous when applied slightly over my Estee Lauder Wild Sunset blush.
  • For the above look, I simply sprayed my brush lightly with water and swiped the brush in a single downward motion (do not swirl), starting at the top with the peach color and ending with the sculpting shade.  Taking my saturated brush, using a horizontal motion, I applied the powder across the tops of my cheeks, onto my blush.
  • As you can tell, the powder settled nicely on the skin taking on a slight iridescent flush.

Ingredient List for Shiseido OR1 Peach:

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you this would be the perfect everything powder if not for some of the ingredients. Will you indulge in one of these synthetic beauties or move on to “greener” pastures?  Until next time, be well, stay safe and be happy.

Kjaer Weis Abundance Cream Blush is Abundantly AWESOME!!!

Kjaer Weis Abundance

Kjaer Weis Abundance Cream Blush

The first time I tried Kjaer Weis products I knew I was headed down a dangerous path. Let’s be honest, this is not the most budget-friendly brand on the market. However, I can honestly say, I could let go of over half of my collection and be completely content with using KW products. The amazing packaging, rich texture and natural/organic composition makes this brand a stand-out IMHO. My latest acquisition has solidified my feelings. To quote the Sugar Hill Gang (I’m I revealing my age?), “I don’t mean to brag, I don’t mean to boast,” but Kjaer Weis Abundance Cream Blush ($56 USD for compact and blush/$32 USD for blush only) is some seriously awesome toast. 🙂 I hope you enjoy!

  • Abundance is described as a “plummy taupe with an iridescent finish.”  This is pretty much exactly what I see when I look at Abundance in the pan.  However, on my skin, the color morphs more into a deep rose bronze with a subtle satiny glow.  The formula seamlessly glides over skin and becomes one with the skin, similar in finish to an airbrush application…Gorgeous!
Kjaer Weis Abundance

Kjaer Weis Abundance Cream Blush used as an eyeshadow with black liner.

Kjaer Weis Abundance

Kjaer Weis Abundance Cream Blush used as a blush and eyeshadow, with KW Radiance Highlighter.

  • As with all Kjaer Weis products, the natural/organic ingredients makes this offering suitable to be used on the eyes, face and lips.  For the above photos (in my best Vogue position possible), Abundance was utilized as a blush and eyeshadow.  Over my excessively dry skin, Abundance Cream Blush lasted perfectly for 8 hours with slight fading thereafter.  On the lids, the color remained in full bloom all day (over a primer) without any fading or creasing.
  • For the purpose of this post, I reapplied Abundance in the late evening, just to see how well the formula would apply over an existing layer.  I am pleased to announce, not only was the application effortless, but the overall results were smooth and seamless.
  • My preferred “tools” of choice to apply this product are my fingers.  Even though the consistency is ridiculously creamy and light, I find the natural warmth of fingers pick-up just right amount of pigment, and help blend the color on the skin beautifully.  In addition, when paired with Kjaer Weis Radiance Highlighter (reviewed here), the effect was natural and luminous.
Kjaer Weis Cream Blush.

  • For the above photo, Abundance was paired with a more dramatic makeup look–hence substantiating the versatility of this gem.  Light-medium/medium skins can easily sport this color with any look.  KW recommends darker skins use Abundance as a highlighter.
  • Bear in mind, everyone’s body chemistry and coloring will vary, altering the end results. The number of reviews on this particular color fluctuate, from absolute adoration to overall confusion over the unique color blend.  There is no confusion here…this shade is utterly fabulous!  🙂

  • This packaging sends me.  The heft, refillable design, finish, and magnetic swivel opening are all top-notch as stated in my previous reviews.
  • Abundance Cream Blush is composed of 95% organic ingredients, no artificial/harmful chemicals, no animal testing and Italian-made.  Does it get any better?
  • As a final note, notice how impressive Abundance held-up under warm running water for 2½ minutes–all the while remaining vibrant and intact.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Kjaer Weis Abundance Cream Blush is one of my favorite cream blushes. Admittedly, the organic composition is what makes this line so incredibly appealing, but the amazing performance and colors are what keep me coming back for more.  Similar to Sugarhill Gang’s Rapper’s Delight, this blush is f-l-y.  🙂  Until next time, be well stay safe and be happy.

For your sensory pleasure, grab a special someone and get down to one of the best songs ever penned–Word, you know it.

Gucci Nude Freesia Sheer Blushing Powder review and photos.

Gucci Nude Freesia Sheer Blushing Powder.

Gucci Nude Freesia Sheer Blushing Powder.

The anticipation of a new makeup line is without a doubt very exciting; especially, when that line hails from the Gucci Empire.  Their clothing line, shoes and accessories are among the most coveted items in the fashion business.  It was only a matter of time, before this glamorous brand’s influence and style extended to the beauty world.  According to Gucci.com, from the power house duo of Frida Giannini (Creative Director) and Pat McGrath (Cosmetics Artistic Director) comes a line that,

continues the Gucci traditions of luxury, confidence, and glamour.  From [Giannini] uniquely feminine and distinctly Italian point of view comes a union of makeup and fashion that could only be Gucci.

We spent a long time perfecting a precise balance of technology and finishes, which are unique and unmistakably Gucci. They are so professional that they can be used in backstage or when a woman effortlessly applies them at home,” said Pat McGrath.

Gucci Nude Freesia Sheer Blushing Powder ($49 USD/ 4.25 g) is an example of that vision brought to life. Let’s face it, who wouldn’t want to open up a cosmetic compact and be greeted by those beautiful signature G’s?

Gucci Nude Freesia Sheer Blushing Powder.

Gucci Nude Freesia Sheer Blushing Powder.

According to the lovely MUA Susie Ippolito at Saks Fifth Avenue, Frida Giannini designed these compacts to be viewed as added accessories to pair with your favorite Gucci items.  The line is simply called Gucci, as opposed to Gucci Beauty to convey the feeling that one is investing in the luxury line and not just cosmetics.  If Gucci (anything) was unobtainable in the past, their cosmetics make it possible for everyone to own a little piece of the Gucci pie .  Brilliant marketing, wouldn’t you say?

Gucci Nude Freesia Sheer Blushing Powder.

Gucci Nude Freesia Sheer Blushing Powder.

The Pros to Gucci Nude Freesia Sheer Blushing Powder.

  1. Gorgeous deep pink with a slight terracotta undertone.
  2. Powder is smooth and applies easily.
  3. Micro-shimmers do not appear on the face, in fact the colors appears matte unless in direct sunlight.
  4. Ideal for more mature skins and those who prefer matte finishes.
  5. Beautiful magnetized black and gold compact comes with a signature velvet pouch.  Love the rounded corners..very Apple/Steven Jobs-esque.
  6. Chic signature emblem is embossed into the blush.
  7. Gucci name is etched into the base of the sizable mirror…nice touch!
  8. Included brush can be used in a pinch to apply color on the go.
  9. Powder adheres to the skin immediately and the color endured on my dry skin for 8 hours +.
  10. Comes in 8 gorgeous shades to accommodate all skin tones.
  11. Formulated without parabens, mineral oil or fragrance.
  12. Made in Italy.

The Cons to Gucci Nude Freesia Sheer Blushing Powder:

  1. Color does not apply evenly on dry patches on the skin; moisturized skin is a must with this formula.
  2. Terracotta undertone is very evident against my complexion.  This would be an ideal color for deeper skin tones.
  3. Due to the finely milled texture, pressing a brush too firmly into the pan will result in powder kick-up.
  4. Soft hair brushes, like my Chikuhodo Z-8 or Z-2, do not pick up enough powder for my liking; the effect is way too sheer.  However, when using a denser brush (Tom Ford Blush Brush), the results were very dramatic.  It took me a couple of tries to figure out the right brush (Wayne Goss Brush 02) and amount to use.
  5. Compact is a fingerprint magnet.

For the above photo, Nude Freesia is noticeably darker and deeper in tone than my beloved Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 10 Beige.  Another noticeable difference pertains to the finish each blush delivers; Nude Freesia appears more matte on the skin, where as 10 Beige’s subtle pink/gold pearl gives just the right amount of satiny glow to the skin.  Two different formulas for two very different moods and looks.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Gucci Nude Freesia Sheer Blushing Powder is a lovely blush indeed.  The texture, the longevity and especially the packaging, are all top-notch.  Will this replace my precious Giorgio Armani 10 Beige Sheer Blush?  Never..but Gucci Nude Freesia makes a nice addition to my very limited and exclusive blush club.  What are you eyeing from the Gucci collection?  Be well, stay safe and be happy.

Vincent Longo Sandalwood Dew Drop Radiant Blush review and photos.

Vincent Longo Sandalwood Dew Drop Radiant Blush.

Vincent Longo Sandalwood Dew Drop Radiant Blush.

Blushes have been an obsession of mine as of late.  My blush journey has led me to some very interesting formulas.  Whatever the case, nothing seemed to come close to my Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 10 Beige.  That was until, Olivia from The Unknown Beauty Blog featured Vincent Longo Dew Drop Blush in one of her posts.  In her comment to me, she described the texture of her Vincent Longo blush similar to that of Giorgio Armani Sheer Blushes.  Armed with this revelation, I immediately obtained Vincent Longo Sandalwood Dew Drop Radiant Blush ($30 USD/ 9g).  As soon as I opened this beauty, I could tell my Giorgio Armani Blush was in for some serious competition.

Vincent Longo Sandalwood Dew Drop Radiant Blush.

Vincent Longo Sandalwood Dew Drop Radiant Blush.

Vincent Longo Sandalwood Dew Drop Radiant Blush.

Vincent Longo Sandalwood Dew Drop Radiant Blush.

The Pros of Vincent Longo Sandalwood Dew Drop Radiant Blush:

  1. Beautiful peachy base color with gold and lavender pearls (aka: dew drops).
  2. Lightweight, silky smooth formula glides onto the skin.
  3. Subtle “dew drops” blend with the peach semi-matte color to give the blush a seamless radiant finish.
  4. Does not settle into pores or fine lines.
  5. Fantastic blendability and color payoff.
  6. Easily bluildable to show on the darkest of complexions.
  7. Can be used as a brightening peach eyeshadow.
  8. Wears for 8 hours when used dry–10 hours + when applied with a dampened brush.
  9. Sandalwood Blush contains 9 grams of product…well worth the investment.  This is the same amount as VL Bronzers and definitely more than what any other cosmetic brand offers in their blush line.
  10. The compact is well constructed with a magnetic closure; it can be opened fully to rest on a table for easy accessibility to the powder–especially important for makeup artists.
  11. Well balanced compact can also be positioned to sit upright if one needs to utilize the mirror for makeup application.
  12. Comes in six colors.
  13. Slight “fig” fragrance is imperceptible after a couple of minutes.
  14. Formulated without parabens or mineral oil.
  15. Made in Italy.

The Cons to Vincent Longo Sandalwood Dew Drop Radiant Blush:

  1. Vincent Longo Cosmetics are found in limited retail locations.
  2. Slight powder “kick-up” if a heavy hand is used when dipping a brush into the pan.
  3. Formulated with silicones and first ingredient is talc (some are concerned that talc contains asbestos, but cosmetic grade talc is said to be asbestos-free).
  4. Really no other cons…this blush is amazing!

For such a delicate powder, Sandalwood’s color payoff is phenomenal and the slight sheen is flattering for all age groups.  Vincent Logo describes the dew drops as “meteorite pearls” designed to give the blush a muted radiance.  This faint illumination keeps the blush from looking too dull/chalky.  For those who seek a more glowing finish, I have found Estee Lauder 04 Crystal Baby Illuminating Gelee Blush (reviewed here) pairs perfectly with Sandalwood. ♥

Vincent Longo Sandalwood Dew Drop Radiant Blush makes a fantastic eyeshadow.  Peach colored eyeshdaows are known for their brighten effect.  For this look, I used my Chikuhodo Z-5 Eyeshadow Brush (reviewed here) and applied Sandalwood, with the greatest of ease, all over the mobile lid area.  I then used my Billy B #12 Brush to apply Giorgio Armani #9 Tadzio (reviewed here) to the outer corners.  I lightly dabbed Estee Lauder 04 Crystal Baby in the middle of the lid with my finger and applied a small amount to the inner counter of the eye with a dampened Billy B #12 Brush (reviewed here).  YSL 07 Gold Star Creme Eyeliner was used along the waterline.

Vincent Longo Sandalwood Dew Drop Radiant Blush compact folds out completely for easy access to the powder.  This feature is particularly important to makeup artists so they are able to view and use products more efficiently.  Estee Lauder, Giorgio Armani and Vincent Longo are all properly balanced for easy usage.  As you can tell, the Nars compact does not open completely and is weighted in favor of the mirror, leaving the powder portion inconveniently elevated.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Vincent Longo Sandalwood Dew Drop Radiant Blush is outstanding.  The formula, color, blendability, subtle radiance and packaging are all encompassed in this blush.  The well-edited selection of blush colors is sure to please everyone.  For a limited time, Vincentlongo.com is having a 30% sale until 7/16/14 with code VL7430.   For $21 (after the 30% discount) you are getting one of the best blush formulations in the business.  Up next, Vincent Longo Bronzer in Copper Kiss–psst…this guy is pretty amazing as well.   Be well, stay safe and be happy.

Giorgio Armani 503 Daybreak Cheek Fabric Blush review and photos.

Giorgio Armani 503 Daybreak Cheek Fabric.

Giorgio Armani 503 Daybreak Cheek Fabric Blush.

Giorgio Armani 503 Daybreak Cheek Fabric.

Giorgio Armani 503 Daybreak Cheek Fabric Blush.

Giorgio Armani does have a wonderful makeup line; in particular the Sheer Blushes have a sophisticated formula and finish.  The micro-shimmers are not overly abundant and the luminosity that is produced is youthful and flattering.  So when Giorgio Armani Cheek Fabric Blush ($46 USD/ 4g) was introduced as, “vibrant, tactile colors in the thinnest, softest textures to brighten the face and highlight cheekbones for the ultimate glow,” I knew 503 Daybreak would be the color for me.  Would this, could this be a replacement for my broken GA Sheer Blush 10 Beige?  You’ll see.

Giorgio Armani 503 Daybreak Cheek Fabric.

Giorgio Armani 503 Daybreak Cheek Fabric Blush.

The Pros of Giorgio Armani 503 Daybreak Cheek Fabric Blush:

  1. Beautiful pink/peach color infused with pink and gold micro-shimmers.
  2. Color closely resembles Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 10 Beige.
  3. Lasts for 4-5 hours when applied dry, 6-8 hours when applied with a dampened brush.
  4. Smooth lightweight formula.
  5. Sheer finish can be built up for more intense color payoff.
  6. Ideal for lighter complexions.
  7. Can be layered over cream blushes or darker powered blushes for added dimension.
  8. Small compact can fit easily in any makeup bag.
  9. Sizable mirror is included.
  10. Formulated without parabens or mineral oil and fragrance-free.

The Cons of Giorgio Armani 503 Daybreak Cheek Fabric Blush:

  1. GA Cheek Fabrics contains less product and cost more (4g/$46) than GA Sheer Blushes (6g/$44).
  2. The shimmers seem to sit on top of the skin, rather than blend-out for a luminous effect.
  3. When applied with a dampened brush, 503 Daybreak does not blend-out as seamlessly as GA Sheer Blushes.
  4. Smaller surface area is not ideal for swirling a larger blush brush.
  5. The shiny packaging attracts finger prints and the snap closure seems less upscale than a magnetic closure.
  6. A dense blush brush must be used with this formula to achieve color payoff, especially on darker complexions.

Giorgio Armani 503 Daybreak Cheek Fabric Blush vs. Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 10 Beige.

Cheek Fabric’s petite shiny packaging is truly adorable, along with the Giorgio Armani emblem on the snap closure. This is a matter of personal preference, but I must admit, I prefer GA Sheer Blushes’ matte packaging and the name Giorgio Armani written out across the magnetic closure.

Giorgio Armani 503 Daybreak Cheek Fabric with Tom Ford Cheek Brush.

Giorgio Armani 503 Daybreak Cheek Fabric Blush with Tom Ford Cheek Brush.

I find it a bit awkward  to swirl my Tom Ford Cheek Brush (reviewed here) in this compact; the brush head simply overpowers the blush area.

Giorgio Armani 503 Daybreak Cheek Fabric Blush dampened swatch, dry swatch vs. Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 10 Beige dry swatch and dampened swatch.

As you can tell by the photos, Giorgio Armani 503 Daybreak Cheek Fabric Blush is quite a sheer blush when applied dry; however, when the blush is applied with a dampened brush, the color deepens and the seamlessness is somewhat compromised.  A definite line a demarkation is noticeable and a decent amount of blending is required for acceptable results.  In person, Giorgio Armani 503 Daybreak Cheek Fabric also has more micro-shimmers scattered throughout the formula in comparison to GA Sheer Blush 10 Beige.

Giorgio Armani 503 Daybreak Cheek Fabric Blush worn over YSL 11 Prune Impertinente Baby Doll Kiss and Blush (reviewed here).

Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 10 Beige, oddly enough, has a deeper base color than 503 Daybreak Cheek Fabric.  However, 503 Daybreak looks particularly lovely when paired with a cream blush or blended with other deeper toned powder blushes.

Giorgio Armani 503 Daybreak Cheek Fabric Blush can be found at Nordstrom, giorgioarmanibeauty-usa.com, Saks, etc..

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Giorgio Armani 503 Daybreak Cheek Fabric Blush is a lovely color indeed, especially suited for lighter complexions and those individual that want a no-makeup makeup look.  Even though the formula is ultra-lightweight, the color is beautiful and the packaging is charming, nothing will replace GA Sheer Blush 10 Beige in my eyes.  Go check them out and decide for yourself.  In the meanwhile, Giorgio Armani is having a 20% Friends and Family sale until 6/30/14–spend $75 to receive 20% off on your total purchase.  Guess what I’ll be getting.  I hope you found this helpful.  Be well, stay safe and be happy.

It Cosmetics Vitality Cheek Flush Pretty in Peony review, swatches and comparisons.

It Cosmetics Vitality Cheek Flush Pretty in Peony.

It Cosmetics Vitality Cheek Flush Pretty in Peony.

Recently, my Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush met an unfortunate fate; he shattered into a million pretty pinky pieces.  My first instinct was to immediately buy a replacement; however, scared with the thought that my new compact might meet a similar demise, I turned my attention to another brand.  It Cosmetics Vitality Cheek Flush in Pretty Peony ($24 USD/3.87 g) was my choice for blush successor.  A “powder blush, cheek stain, antioxidant defense, and hydrating skin conditioner all in one,” was just too promising to resist. Would this pinky coral golden blossom live up to the advertised hype?  You’ll see.

It Cosmetics Vitality Cheek Flush Pretty in Peony.

The Pros to It Cosmetics Vitality Cheek Flush Pretty in Peony:

  1. Beautiful pinky/coral color infused with a golden sheen.
  2. Highly pigmented–a little goes a long way.
  3. Ideal for medium to darker skinned beauties.
  4. Applies smoothly and blends easily.
  5. Unbelievable lasting power 10 hours +.
  6. Has a staining effect–makeup remover was required to remove my arm swatch.
  7. No added fragrance or offensive shimmer.
  8. Majority of ingredients are good for the skin–hyaluronic acid is a nice touch.
  9. According to Itcosmetics.com, Pretty in Peony’s “innovative formula contains It Cosmetics’ Hydra-Luxe technology, that all work together to treat, hydrate, condition, and nourish your skin.
  10. Talc, paraben, sulfate, mineral oil, petrolatum, synthetic fragrance, and phthalate free.
  11. Small compact is travel friendly and includes a sizable mirror.
  12. Can also be used on the lips to deepen lighter colored lipsticks/lipglosses.

The Cons to It Cosmetics Vitality Cheek Flush Pretty in Peony:

  1. Can appear darker than expected on the face.
  2. Lighter skin tones may find the strong coral tone unnatural.
  3. Not enough color choices, especially for fairer complexions.
  4. Golden sheen is not as evident on the cheeks like it appears on a swatch (could be a good thing for some people).
  5. Second ingredient is Dimethicone–silicones are in everything (or so it seems).

Sleek Face Form Palette Light 373 Blush, Estee Lauder Pure Color Blush Wild Sunset, It Cosmetics Pretty in Peony, Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush #10, Tom Ford Cheek Color 01 Love Lust.

  • Sleek Face Form Palette is not my favorite item.  The blush has a hard texture and resembles a highlighter more so than a blush.  This shade is more peachy/gold than coral.
  • Estee Lauder #17 Wild Sunset is closest to Pretty in Peony minus the golden sheen.  Both blushes look and perform very similarly on the skin.
  • Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush #10 (reviewed here) is not accurately portrayed, in his weakened and broken condition Blush #10 “is not all that it could be, when, in fact, it is all that it should be… And more!”  Blush #10 has been significantly shortchanged (Seinfeld reference).  This color is so lovely when applied with a dampened brush–the pink and gold micro-shimmers are contained, unique and sophisticated.  Pretty in Peony has a darker and pinker base color than GA #10.
  •  Tom Ford Cheek Color 01 Love Lust is more warm and peachy than Pretty in Peony.  The micro-shimmers tend to migrate all over my face throughout the day.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you It Cosmetics Pretty in Peony is a very nice blush.  The lasting power alone is enough incentive to invest in one of the four colors offered.  Will Pretty in Peony replace my beloved Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush #10? Not really..personally, I would have liked the golden sheen to be a bit more noticeable and I prefer blushes that are less intense and can be built up to my desired intensity. Regardless, Pretty in Peony is lovely–just apply with caution.  Bottom line, if you like Nars Orgasm then you will love this shade.  Be well, stay safe and be happy.

YSL 11 Prune Impertinente Baby Doll Kiss and Blush review, photos and comparisons.

YSL 11 Prune Impertinente Baby Doll Kiss and Blush.

YSL 11 Prune Impertinente Baby Doll Kiss and Blush.

For the longest time, women have been using their lipsticks as multi-taskers.  Presumably, swiping the same shade on the lips and cheeks seemed advantageous during a busy morning routine.  Was it a matter of convenience, a time saver, laziness, or lack of blusher choices?  Whatever the reasoning, it was genius! So when YSL created their new 2-in-1 Baby Doll Kiss and Blush products, I knew a personal in-store visit was in order.  YSL 11 Prune Impertinente Baby Doll Kiss and Blush ($40 USD/10ml) was the color that was unique in my mini cream blush collection.  The wine tone and handy packaging was grounds for immediate purchase.  According to YSL:

Kiss your cheeks. Blush your lips. Play with color and mix and match your lips and cheeks. Yves Saint Laurent introduces the latest innovation in the edgy Baby Doll attitude. This 2 in 1 ultra blendable air whipped mousse beautifully highlights your lips and cheeks with a sensual soft matte finish. Available in 12 signature YSL shades.

The Pros of YSL 11 Prune Impertinente Baby Doll Kiss and Blush:

  1. Beautiful soft wine/plum color–great color for medium and darker skins.
  2. Packaged in a sturdy glass container (I prefer glass so the product does not dry out..some may not).
  3. Portable compact packaging for on-the-go lip color and blush application.
  4. Can be worn softly or opaque.
  5. Soft smooth mousse-like texture.
  6. Velvet matte finish.
  7. Lightweight, non sticky formula.
  8. Non-drying formula makes reapplication on the lips a pleasure.
  9. A fresh layer can be applied over an existing layer without looking caky or bleeding into fine lines around the lips.
  10. Wears off evenly on the lips with a noticeable stain left behind.
  11. Intense color payoff and longevity when used as a blush.
  12. Colors can be mixed and matched to create your own custom color.
  13. A powder blush can be worn on top to create another custom color.
  14. Typical “watermelon” scent..similar to YSL cream blushes.  Not as strong as YSL Rouge Volupte.
  15. Amazing applicator can be used to create sharp edges and to deposit light or full coverage.
  16. Formulated without mineral oil or parabens (however, silicones are the main ingredients).

The Cons to YSL 11 Prune Impertinente Baby Doll Kiss and Blush:

  1. Very expensive–however, the amount given is amazing 10ml/$40 USD compared to 6ml/$32 USD for Chanel Rouge Extrait De Gloss (which does not last on me at all).
  2. Lasting power on the lips is 2½-3 hours.
  3. Lighter colors may have less lasting power on the lips.
  4. Dries quickly when used as a blush–prompt blending is required.
  5. Glosses will break down the color and cause bleeding into fine lines–tread lightly.
  6. Exclusive in-store to Nordstrom..online ordering is a must for those who do not have access to Nordstrom.

When used as a blush, YSL 11 Prune Impertinente Baby Doll Kiss and Blush had outstanding lasting power.  The above photos show how the color appears when worn together on the lips and cheeks.  My Wayne Goss Brush 01 (reviewed here) sheered out this very intense shade beautifully.  Personally, I do not have any plum cream blushes in my collection, therefore, 11 PI was my obvious choice.  I was tempted by the other pink colors in the line-up, but I have my Chanel 64 Inspiration (reviewed here) from last year and could not justify the purchase of another pink cream blush.

When paired with Buxom Kir Royale, the longevity on the lips was dramatically reduced.  The above lip combo lasted an hour and half before I experienced feathering of the color into my fine lines.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you, even though the concept of a lipstick worn as a blush is not incredibly innovative, I must admit YSL 11 Prune Impertintente Baby Doll Kiss and Blush formula has won me over.  The smooth texture, velvety matte finish on the lips, portable packaging, amazing longevity on the cheeks, buildable coverage, and fantastic color selection are all encompassed in this 2-in-1 product.  I am quite content with my selection.  Say you will try at least one..yes?  Be well and stay safe.

Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 4 Sand review and photos.

Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 4 Sand.

Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 4 Sand.

I must admit, if there is one thing in particular Giorgio Armani Cosmetics does well, it is blushes. Frankly, I never even thought of trying their blushes, until a lovely sales woman at Sephora in the Chelsea Meat Market location (Eve) was kind enough to direct me to this wonderful line.  She claimed that this was her favorite blush and bronzer formula in the whole store (that is saying a lot).  One touch of the silky smooth texture, was enough to convince me to purchase Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 4 Sand ($44 US/ 6g.).  This was my first Armani Blush followed by 10 Beige (reviewed here).  Did I need another rosy/tan blush?  No, I did not…this was a classic case of I saw, I want, I bought…does it get any more primal than that?

Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 4 Sand.

Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 4 Sand.

The Pros:

  1. Giorgio Armani 4 Sand has an ultra silky smooth formula.
  2. Sleek black magnetic packaging coupled with a sizable mirror.
  3. Blush 4 Sand is a beautiful rosy/tan color mixed with micro pink shimmers.
  4. Powder is tightly pressed into the compact.
  5. Noticeably soft formula that applies smoothly like a cream.
  6. Pigmented with a sheer texture and tone.
  7. Blends easily to meld with the skin rather than sitting on-top of the skin.
  8. Refined shimmers transform into a beautiful sheen on the skin.
  9. The more the color is buffed into the skin the more luminous the effect.
  10. Color can be layered without settling into pores.
  11. No fragrance or parabens.♥
  12. Lighter skins will find 4 Sand can double as a bronzer and blush.
  13. Darker skins and medium complexions will find the pink sheen quite complementary to their skin tone.
  14. Permanent color in the Armani line.
  15. Armani offers 6 g/$44 as opposed to Chanel blushes which offer 4 g/$43.
  16. Stays put for 8 hours and beyond…(longer if you use Skindinavia Setting Spray).

The Cons:

  1. Armani Cosmetics are not readily available everywhere.  Sephora stocks the line, in-store, at two locations in NYC (Chelsea Meat Market and Times Square, but not online).
  2. Absence of a protective cover and/or brush–at this price point, an additional item should have been included.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 4 Sand is a very versatile color.  Use it as a blush, bronzer and even as an eyeshadow to simply add warmth to any eye look.  Whatever your intended purpose for this lovely basic shade, you will not be disappointed by its performance, color and texture.  If you are in the NYC area and are a VIB (20% off until November 11, 2013) stop by Sephora (Times Square or Chelsea Meat Market locations) to try and perhaps buy, any of the Sheer Blushes from Armani.  I promise, you will not be disappointed.  My sights are set on the Giorgio Armani Sheer Bronzer in 5 Golden Sand this weekend…20% off will make my purchase even sweeter.   Be well and stay safe.

Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 10 Beige review and swatches.

Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush #10 Beige.

Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 10 Beige.

Blushes in general are the chameleons of the cosmetics world.  What you see in the pan does not necessarily translate the same way on the cheeks.  I feel like Goldilocks, some colors are too dark, others are too light, and some are down right hideous.  Enter Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 10 Beige ($44 US/ 6g) what you see is what you get; he is just right 🙂   According to the sales associate at Saks, 10 Beige is the #1 seller in the Armani blush range.  The name is a bit deceiving, 10 Beige does not resemble any beige color I have ever seen.  This peachy/pink color with pink and gold micro-shimmers is quite flattering, sophisticated and smooth.  Forget the porridge ladies, this is all about the “Oops…I didn’t mean to do that” flush of color to your cheeks.

Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 10 Beige.

Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 10 Beige.

Many people have compared Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 10 Beige to Nars Orgasm.  The latter has such a huge cult following. Every makeup enthusiast, at one point in time, has used that color–myself included, however on me it looked downright clownish.  The strong pinky/peach base color coupled with an unnatural golden sheen was completely unflattering and artificial.  Nars Orgasm had performance issues and it left me unsatisfied (despite the name 🙂 )

Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 10 Beige heavily swatched and blended out.

Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 10 Beige heavily swatched and blended out.

The Pros:

  1. GA 10 beige has an ultra silky smooth formula.
  2. Sleek black magnetic packaging coupled with a sizable mirror.
  3. Blush 10 Beige is very natural looking…for women who seek the “less is more” look.
  4. Powder is tightly pressed into the compact–no annoying powder flying everywhere when you swirl your brush in the blush.
  5. Pigmented with a sheer texture and tone.
  6. Blends easily to meld with the skin rather than sitting on-top of the skin.
  7. Refined shimmers transform into a beautiful sheen on the skin to give that “lit from within” look.
  8. The more the color is buffed into the skin the more luminous the effect.
  9. No fragrance or parabens.
  10. Armani offers 6 g/$44 as opposed to Chanel blushes which offer 4 g/$43.
  11. Universally flattering color pairs well with most eye looks and lip colors.
  12. Ideally suited for lighter skin tones.
  13. Permanent color in the Armani line.
  14. Stays put for 8 hours and beyond…(longer if you use Skindinavia Setting Spray).

The Cons:

  1. Armani Cosmetics are not readily available at all department stores.
  2. Absence of a protective cover and/or brush–at this price point, an additional item should have been included.
  3. Darker skinned beauties may find this more suitable as a highlighter rather than a blush.
  4. Medium skin tones will have to layer 10 Beige, to reap the benefits of the lovely peachy/pink glow.

I prefer to apply 10 Beige with my Tom Ford Cheek Brush (reviewed here).  Simply, dip the brush into the blush and using a tapping motion, pat the color across the cheekbone area, until you have reached your desired intensity.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you if you seek a refined sophisticated look, then you will not go wrong with Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 10 Beige.  This color hits all the right notes in terms of texture, color, luminosity, and even packaging.  Truthfully, I was torn between GA blush and the new Chanel Joues Contraste Blush in (84) Accent.  I chose Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 10 Beige because of the size, silky feel and lack of fragrance.  So glad I did.  Do you own any GA Sheer Blushes?   Be well and stay safe.
