Makeup of the Week: Holiday Edition.

The holiday season is one of the most exciting times of the year.  However, the stress of organizing a dinner party can also be overwhelming and exhausting.  Fortunately, my sister is the brave soul that bares the responsibility of cooking Thanksgiving dinner (out of all the foods I can cook, why does baking a turkey elude me?).  For this Makeup of the Week: Holiday Edition, I have put together two quick and easy looks, using long-wearing products that can be worn without any need for touch-ups.  I hope you enjoy!

Makeup of the Week: Holiday Edition Eye Makeup:

  1. Prime eyes with Nars Eyeshadow Primer.
  2. Fill and shape the brows (Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow 2 Wenge Wood).
  3. Using the back of your hand, combine equal parts (amount will vary) of Giorgio Armnai Eye and Brow 9 Gold with Givenchy 9 Brun Cachemire (reviewed here) and apply the mixture to the mobile lid using a synthetic brush.
  4. Use a warm brown shade in the crease (MUFE M-600) to blend out the edges of the lid color.
  5. Apply a lighter gold shade to the inner corners of the eye (MUFE ME-512).
  6. Line the lower lash line with Givenchy Brun Cachemire and then lightly pat Giorgio Armani 9 Gold directly over.
  7. Line the inner waterline, with a flesh tone pencil (Merle Norman Inner Liner), extending the color out and under the winged liner, to lighten the look and make eyes appear larger.
  8. Tightline the upper waterline with any gel liner of your choosing (Inglot AMC #90).
  9. Add your favorite mascara (Clinique High Impact Mascara) and black liner (Milani Liquid Liner) and your look is complete.
  10. This step is opitional:  I like to add a bit more of 9 Gold over the lid for a little extra pizzazz.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you these two looks lasted perfectly all day, with the exception of the lip color.  What look are you planning to wear for the upcoming holidays?

Since Thanksgiving is all about giving thanks, a special thanks to my hubby who always supports my insanity; to my children who always accompany me (reluctantly, but sweet about it) to the cosmetics counters; and last, but certainly not least, to all of my wonderful readers who always provide inspiration and joy.  Happy Thanksgiving…warm wishes and big hugs from my home to yours.  Be well, stay safe and be happy.

Date Night Look Lip Combo:
Jordana Plush Plum and Estee Lauder Electric Wine.

Recently, my husband and I attended a last minute event and a quick and simple look was required.  For this Date Night Look, time was of the essence, so I decided to play up my lips rather than waste time creating an elaborate eye look.  Truth be told, I did not alter my daytime makeup in the least, but simply changed the lip combo. Adding an extra necklace or two also helps to dress up any outfit.  I hope you find this helpful and can use some ideas for your next date night 🙂

Inglot AMC Eyeliner Gel #90 review and photos.

Inglot AMC Eyeliner Gel #90.

Inglot AMC Eyeliner Gel #90.

There are very few things that can be labeled as “must haves” in my makeup collection.  In a market filled with an abundance of brands and formulations, consumer attention is easily swayed.  However, if age and a dismal economy has taught me anything, one should stick to what works.  Inglot AMC Eyeliner Gel ($12 US/5.5g) is one of the few items in my arsenal, that performs spectacularly, never lets me down and keeps me coming back for more.

Inglot AMC Eyeliner Gel #90.

The Pros of Inglot AMC Eyeliner Gel:

  1. Highly pigmented dark matte brown formula.
  2. Incredibly smooth and even texture.
  3. All day wear, if worn as a traditional gel liner on the upper lash line and upper waterline.
  4. Lives ups to the “waterproof” claim.  This stuff does not budge.
  5. Pairs well with Billy B #11 Eyebrow Brush (here) for tight lining.
  6. Inglot #90 dark brown color is less harsh than black for those who want a more subtle, yet noticeable look.
  7. Lasting power on the lower waterline is 5-6 hours depending on how watery eyes become during the day.
  8. Can be used as an eyeshadow base within the first 8 months.
  9. Price/amount ratio is outstanding.
  10. Comes in 22 pigmented shades.
  11. Formulated without parabens or mineral oil.
  12. Easily available online.

The Cons of Inglot AMC Eyeliner Gel:

  1. Starts to dry-out around the eighth month of use, despite storing the container upside down.  A new pot is needed every year (on my third one).
  2. Acrylic container does not keep moisture at bay as well as a glass container.
  3. When the formula starts to dry out, the texture becomes tacky to the touch.
  4. Immediate cleaning of your eye brush is recommended.  Inglot’s formula dries in 60 second and if left uncleaned, the brush’s bristles become hard to the touch.  I use a dual action makeup remover to clean my brush after every use.
  5. My brand new pot seems to have been stored on one side, thus resulting in the gel settling on its side.  This minor superficial defect did not compromise the formula in the least.

Comparisons Swatches L-R:
Bobbi Brown Chocolate Shimmer Ink, Inglot Eyeliner Gel #90, L’Oreal Infallible in #174 Bronze, Physicians Formula 2-in-1 Eyeliner Deep Brown.

  •  Bobbi Brown Chocolate Shimmer Ink lasts well throughout the day, but Inglot truly does not budge.  BBCSI makes a great eyeshadow color.  BB Espresso Ink (I do not own this color) would probably be closest in color to Inglot #90.
  • L’Oreal Infallible in #174 Bronze goes on smoothly and the color is absolutely beautiful; however, this formula does not dry down completely.
  • Physicians Formula Deep Brown is the closest in color (not in formula) to Inglot, but the lasting power does not come anywhere close to that of Inglot Eyeliner Gel.

Brushes to use with Inglot AMC Eyeliner Gel:

Brushes to use with Inglot AMC Eyeliner Gel:
Billy B Beauty Eyebrow Brush #11.
Estee Lauder Eyeliner/Brow Brush #20.
Laura Mercier Angled Eye Liner Brush.

  • Billy B Beauty Brush #11 is intended for eyebrow color placement.  I find this brush indispensable for tight lining (upper water line).  The bristles are firm (but not too firm), dense, and short–giving me complete control over color placement.
  • Estee Lauder Eyeliner/Brow Brush #20 is an angled brush that makes upper lash line eyeliner application a breeze.  Very similar to MAC 266.
  • Laura Mercier Angled Eye Liner Brush gives me the utmost control for upper lash line gel liner application.  The shorter handle is brilliant for people who are near-sighted and need to get close to their mirrors for makeup application.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Inglot AMC Eyeliner Gel #90 is an everyday staple that I simply will not go without. The price, amount offered, color selection and paraben and mineral oil free formula, make this liner a winner in my book.  Best of all, beautylish.com carries the enter Inglot Cosmetics line, along with Billy B Beauty and Wayne Goss–absolute cosmetic nirvana!  Be well and stay safe.
