Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss 24 Expressive is Indeed Impressive.

Chanel 24 Expressive

I am not one for purchasing lip glosses on a daily basis.  Although I have a great admiration for the way they appear on others, I find many formulas migrate into my fine lines.  However, Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss 24 Expressive ($34 USD/6ml), part of the Rouge Allure Collection, is a different creature all together.  This beautiful subdued blushing hue is able to sustain its color, wear and brilliance longer than any other gloss I have encountered.  I hope you enjoy.

Chanel 24 Expressive

Chanel 24 Expressive

Chanel 24 Expressive

  • As expected, Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss packaging is simply divine.  The push down mechanism is rather unique and dare I say, fun to open and close.  The long slender handle is elegant and the signature black outer casing is simplicity at its finest.  Although, truth be told, a clear glass tube would make it easier to determine when the lipgloss needs replacement.
  • The closely cut fibers and curvature of the applicator head, holds just the right amount of product (for me at least) and the pointed end reaches the edges of the lips with exacting detail.

Chanel

  • As mentioned in my review of 20 Audace (here), Chanel Rouge Allure Glosses are distinct, in that they do not migrate into fine lines. Granted, any gloss (even this precious gem) has the potential to misbehave if too much is applied.
  • In my experience, Rae Morris’s theory of “too much on the mouth goes south” should be taken to heart for those of us with feathering issues. I prefer to apply one substantial coat to the bottom lip, press my lips together to distribute the gloss to the upper lip region and use the applicator tip (without any additional product) to define the outer edges. This method assures I do not place too much product on my lips, thus minimizing my chances of feathering lip color.
  • On its own, Expressive lasted for a good 3½ hours (without eating or drinking).  Wear time is significantly improved (4-6 hours) when placed over a lip base/lipliner.  Regardless how this is worn, the non-sticky formula left lips feeling hydrated well after the gloss faded away.

Chanel Expressive

  • Expressive is a beautiful delicate rosy color.  As with all lip colors, depending on skin tone and lip pigment, this beauty will look differently on everyone.  On my lips, Expressive translates into a warm pink with a slight cool nuance.  This shade can easily compliment many complexions.
  • Admittedly, I find Expressive to be a tad more sheer than Audace.  However, on the proper canvas (line free lips), this color can be built-up to its full potential.
  • Expressive’s elegant glistening quality is due to the finely milled glass beads contained in the formula. Rest assured, these microscopic pellets feel completely undetectable on the lips.  Personally, I have a habit of biting my lower lip, thus getting gloss caught in my mouth.  It is only at this moment, when I rub my teeth together, I detect a slight grittiness to the gloss.
  • In all honesty, I rarely wear gloss on its own, I prefer to apply a matte lip base and use Expressive to add dimension and depth to my lip look.
  • On the left photo, I am wearing Dose of Colors Matte Liquid Lipstick in Stone–the heavy lavender tone of this lipstick clearly does not suit my olive complexion.  However, when a light layer of Expressive is added, the formerly unwearable hue is transformed into a stunning light warm pink that instantly brightens the face.
  • This combo was so fetching, a woman stopped me in the supermarket and demanded to know exactly what color I was wearing on my lips.  🙂

MAC Whirl

  • For the above photo, MAC Whirl and Honeylove matte lipsticks were combined and then lightly topped with Chanel Rouge Allure 24 Expressive.  This combo lasted 5½ hours during copious amounts of talking and laughing.  The remaining color lacked the initial glossiness, but the satiny finish left was just as alluringpun intended. 🙂

chanel

  • Despite the plethora of synthetic components (with a couple of natural ingredient thrown in for good measure), parabens and mineral oil are thankfully omitted from the list.

**Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss 24 Expressive can be found at Saks, Nordstrom, Lord and Taylorchanel.com and anywhere Chanel cosmetics are sold.**

THE VERDICT:  If Makeup Could Talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss 24 Expressive is indeed impressive.  The universally flattering color, remarkable wear (especially for a gloss), non-feathering formula, moisturizing feel and original packaging does not get any better.  Who knew I had so much to say about a gloss?  Then again when you really like something it shows.  🙂  Until next time, be well, stay safe and be happy.

Vincent Longo Daria Velvet Riche Lip Lacquer review and photos.

Vincent Longo Daria

Liquid lipsticks are all the rage; every company has a version to contribute to this growing trend.  They come is a wide variety of finishes from matte, to satin to glossy.  My personal favorites are those that can be layered with traditional lipsticks for added dimension.  Vincent Longo Daria Velvet Riche Lip Lacquer ($24 USD/ 4.5 ml), part of The Alternative Glamour Collection, promises a sensual lip look with comfortable wear, silky smooth formula and Vitamin E to help keep lips hydrated throughout the day.  Will this full-bodied brick-red dress to impress?  You’ll see 🙂

Vincent Longo Daria

Vincent Longo Daria

The Pros to Vincent Longo Daria:

  1. Incredibly smooth–glides on lips like buttah.
  2. Non-sticky formula is extremely emollient and ridiculously lightweight.
  3. Beautiful rich brick-red suits warmer complexions.
  4. Cream finish does not contain shimmers and suitable for all ages.
  5. Uniquely shaped applicator head is designed to outline lips with utmost precision–love it.
  6. When color wears off, a pink stain is left.
  7. Glossy finish remains for a solid two hours and dries down to a satin finish thereafter.
  8. Sturdy acrylic packaging is attractive and lightweight.
  9. Available in three colors: Angela (soft dark berry), Felicity (soft peach), and Daria (dark brick).
  10. Formulated without mineral oil, parabens or fragrance.
  11. Made in Italy.

The Cons to Vincent Longo Daria:

  1. Despite the lip base used (lip liner, lip stain, or matte lipstick) this emollient formula feathers/bleeds into fine lines.
  2. Does not bind well with other lipstick formulas.
  3. Even though the formula does not specify a fragrance in the ingredients, I detect a hint of a synthetic flavor.
  4. Limited retail locations.

Vincent Longo Daria

Vincent Longo Daria

  • Upon seeing Daria (seriously exotic name) for the first time, I was absolutely thrilled by the color selection.  What can I say, brown based lipsticks are my weakness, because they suit olive, medium and dark skins beautifully.
  • When I first applied Daria, the hydrating sensation was quite pleasing–so much so, I immediately ran to my computer to take notes.  However, after an hour and a half, my blissful state was brought to a screeching halt with the discovery of feathering lip color in my fine lines.
  • As usual, I broke out my trusty arsenal of lip bases to combat the problem–my trusty Girlactik Matte Lip Paint (reviewed here) began breaking down within 40 minutes after being topped by Daria. Sephora Collection Color Lip Last in Brown is Back (reviewed here), Dose of Colors Matte Lipsticks (reviewed here) and It Cosmetics lip liners (reviewed here) also met a similar fate in the presence of Daria.
  • This formula is strictly for those who require an emollient lip product and predisposed to smooth skin around the lip area.

Comparison Lip Products:

Chanel

Comparison Swatches:
Shiseido Lacquer Rouge RD 702, Vincent Longo Daria, Chanel Audace Rouge Allure Gloss

  • Shiseido Lacquer Rouge (reviewed here) has been used by IMCT for fours years.  RD702 is quite similar in color to Daria, but possess more of a pinky undertone.  Shiseido’s glossy formula is slightly thicker in consistency than Daria–it pairs well with any lip stain, liner or lipstick and the results never fail.  I currently have eight colors in my possession.
  • Vincent Longo Daria Velvet Riche Lip Lacquer feels heavenly on the lips.  I wish I had my 20 something lips back, they would have loved the feel and look of this lacquer.  However, the extremely emollient texture will feather if you are prone to fine lines around the lip area.
  • Chanel Audace Rouge Allure Gloss is obviously a mauve/brown and considered a lip gloss, but as you can tell, it is endowed with ample pigment to wear on its own.  The denser formula is unique in that it does not feather into fine lines and pairs well with other lipstick textures.

THE VERDICT:  If Makeup Could Talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you despite the fantastic color, shine, packaging and incredible feel, Vincent Longo Daria Velvet Riche Lip Lacquer is not the perfect lip lacquer for me.  Feathering color is not cute and is a total deal-breaker.  However, if your lips are plump and line free, then you will indeed love this lacquer and are assuredly deemed my nemesis (just kidding)  🙂  Until next time, be well, stay safe and be happy.

Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss 20 Audace review and swatches.

Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss 20 Audace.

Lipgloss has always been one of my favorite products.  My very first lipgloss was Maybelline Rollerball Kissing Potion (cherry was my favorite).  Since this was the only “makeup” I was allowed to wear, I was quite liberal in my application; there was gloss on my lips, over my lips, and everywhere else.  Fast forward to the present day and although my cosmetic education and style has evolved, my basic girlie desires have stayed intact–I still want me some shiny lips.  Enter Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss 20 Auduce ($34 USD/6ml), this beautiful tube of decadence is not your typical gloss.  Rouge Allure behaves as all glosses were intended to conduct themselves–she’s smooth, glossy, and does not stray into fine lines. Glamorous, graceful and gorgeous lips are all-encompassing with this gloss; the hardest part is choosing a color 🙂

Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss 20 Audace applicator head.

Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss 20 Audace applicator head hugs the lips.

The Pros to Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss 20 Audace:

  1. Gorgeous mauve with a caramel undertone with slight multi-colored micro shimmers.  I have been searching for a shade like this for the longest time.
  2. Beautiful/fun packaging.  To open the gloss, you have to press down on the gold top and the applicator pops up.
  3. Fantastic contoured applicator head with closely cut fibers for precise application.
  4. Thick formula ensures color will adhere to the lips with minimal/even fading.
  5. Lips feel moisturized even after color fades.
  6. Pigmented formula does not stain lips when color has worn off or been removed.
  7. Removes easily with a tissue, should you feel the need to apply a fresh layer.
  8. Color and shine lasts for a good four hours without any eating or drinking.
  9. Does not feather into fine lines without a lip liner, if used in moderation.
  10. Audace is the perfect “nude” color for those with deeper skin tones to compliment any look.
  11. The mauve tone of Audace makes teeth appear whiter.
  12. Perfect “one-product” lip product.
  13. Formulated without parabens or mineral oil.
  14. Comes in 10 shades.
  15. Made in France.

The Cons to Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss 20 Audace:

  1. Does not layer well over lipsticks.  Due to the thicker texture, Rouge Allure Glosses will disturb any lipstick base color.
  2. Color will feather into fine lines if a fresh layer is applied to an existing layer.  I prefer to remove the older layer and start anew.
  3. After a week of using this gloss, I experience slight product build-up at the base of applicator wand.  I wipe the base clean after three uses to ensure the opening does not get clogged.
  4. Thicker formula and lack of staining effect may deter some from loving this product.
  5. Contains  slight fragrance–not too overpowering, but can be bothersome to some.
  6. According the Chanel.com, 20 Audace is the only limited edition shade.  This is the best color–WHHHYYYY Chanel?

Personally, this is the perfect neutral shade to compliment my coloring.  I especially love the fact I can get away without using a lipliner.  This is the ideal lip product to own if you are someone who does not like to carry around too many lip products throughout the day.

  • Shiseido Lacquer Rouge RD702 (reviewed here) has more of a brown undertone and the thinner consistency allows the color to bleed into my fine lines when worn on its own.  However, the Lacquer Rouge formula pairs beautifully with a variety of lipsticks.
  • Girlactik Allure Matte Lip Paint (reviewed here) is clearly a matte formula.  I find this is the only lip base that works with Chanel Rouge Allure Glosses.  Not only does this product extended the wear of Audace, but Allure gives lovely dimension to the gloss.
  • Dior Addict Fluid Stick 975 Minuit (reviewed here) has a much thinner and cooling texture than Audace.  These are wonderful on their own (for some) and pair beautifully with other lipsticks.  Unlike Chanel Rouge Allure Glosses, Fluid Sticks leave behind a noticeable stain; however, I cannot wear them on their own without some serious feathering issues.
  • Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipstick 150 Decadent (reviewed here) is clearly a lipstick, but the color and wear is very similar to that of Chanel 20 Audace.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss 20 Audace is one of the best colors and gloss formulas. For someone like me, who has difficulty with glosses feathering into fine lines, these Rouge Allure Glosses are a revelation.  I feel like the clouds have parted and the heavens have given us a wonderful gift.  Now, I’m left with one decision: Do I buy a back-up of Audace or indulge in another color?  What say you?  Be well, stay safe and be happy.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 995 Intrigue review and photos.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 995 Intrigue packaging.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 995 Intrigue packaging.

What do you do when your significant other asks you what you would like from the store?  My conservative altruistic-self could have answered, “Oh nothing honey, but thank you for thinking of me.”  But such pretenses would have been immediately interpreted as insincere, therefore, I allowed my true nature to take the reins and a list was instantly formed for my beloved to purchase.  Amongst the spoils of the day was Dior Addict Fluid Stick 995 Intrigue ($35 USD/ 5.5 ml).  This gorgeous full-bodied Cabernet color definitely arouses an air of intrigue when worn–I can already hear the whispers when walking the streets, “Who’s that Girl?”  🙂

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 995 Intrigue lipswatch.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 995 Intrigue freshly applied on bare lips.

Although gorgeous to look at, I found the pigment of this particular Fluid Stick to settle a bit unevenly and appear slightly patchy when applied heavily to bare lips. However, when approached with moderation and/or paired with other lipliners and lipsticks, the formula blended seamlessly.  As with all Dior Fluid Sticks, the applicator head performs brilliantly to distribute the color and outline the lips perfectly.

Typical of all Dior Addict Fluid Sticks, the formula is hydrating and smooth to the touch.  The longevity and staining effect of the darker shades are more pronounced than their lighter counterparts.  For the above photos, Intrigue was applied over a light coating of Girlactik Allure Matte Lip Paint, the lasting power of this combination was beyond impressive.  I was able to snap a photo by the 4½ hour mark, and as you can see, the color and shine were very much present even after copious amount of talking and laughter.

For those of you who are new to my blog, I use Girlactik Allure Matte Lip Paint (reviewed here) as my go-to lipliner/base for all of my lip combos.  This wonderous product keeps feathering at bay and lip color in place for the long haul.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 995 Intrigue over Estee Lauder Decadent Pure Color Envy Lipstick.

For the above look, Intrigue was placed over Estee Lauder Decadent Pure Color Envy Lipstick.  The wine tone of Intrigue complimented Decadent beautifully; giving this rich brown shade much-needed dimension and shine.  I decided to pair this sumptuous color with a very neutral eye, giving the lips the spotlight they deserved.

For the above photos, Dior Addict Fluid Stick 995 Intrigue also paired perfectly with Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope Lipstick in Black Tie.  The bright blue based red color was instantly transformed into a deeper red wine color.  This combo lasted comfortably for six hours without any of the color feathering into my fine lines.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick Swatches.

Dior Addict Fluid Sticks L_R:
995 Intrigue, 893 Trompe L’Oeil, and 975 Minuit.

  • #995 Intrigue does not apply as intensely as depicted in the tube (this swatch is three coats).  In fact on me, the wine color transforms more into a succulent cool based grape color.  This would be the ideal shade for those ladies that prefer cool tone plum reds.
  • #893 Trompe L’Oeil (reviewed here) is a much lighter version of Intrigue (this swatch is two coats).  In comparison, Trompe contains more red pigment and the texture is more even and dense.  Personally, I cannot wear any of these colors without a lipliner/base due to my feathering issues; however, if that is of no consequence to you, then this color applies seamlessly on its own.
  • #975 Minuit (reviewed here) continues to be my favorite color of the lot (this swatch is one coat).  This brown based red compliments my skin tone perfectly.  The color remains rather stable and does not appear patchy when worn on its own.

Dior Addict Fluid Sticks can be found at Sephora, Nordstrom, Saks, Macys, etc…

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Dior Addict Fluid Stick 995 Intrigue makes an excellent addition to my growing Fluid Stick family.  The deep rich wine color compliments all of my red lipsticks perfectly–just remember to approach this shade with caution.  Will you exude a ton if intrigue when wearing this shade?  Absolutely–at least that’s what I tell myself when I’m walking the dog 🙂  Someone has to look good for my Yoshi.  Special thanks to my husband for putting up with all of my obsessive makeup demands.  Be well, stay safe and be happy.

Estee Lauder Rebellious Rose 420 Pure Color Envy Lipstick review and swatches.

Estee Lauder Rebellious Rose 420 Pure Color Envy Lipstick.

Estee Lauder Rebellious Rose 420 Pure Color Envy Lipstick.

For my sister’s birthday, there are two rules we always follow; firstly, we all must acknowledge that this is her 23rd birthday for the %$%& year in a row; second, never get her makeup…with the exception of lipstick.  So naturally, I turned to Estee Lauder Rebellious Rose 420 Pure Color Envy Lipstick ($30 USD/3.5g) as the lone makeup item to gift to my older…I mean, wiser sister.  As soon as she opened the box her exact words were, “Ooh, I love the smell, taste and formula of this lipstick.”  Upon seeing how beautiful this color looked on her, I made it a point to purchase a tube of Rebellious Rose the following day for myself. After all, isn’t that what envious little sisters do?  Yup…some things never change.

Estee Lauder Rebellious Rose 420 Pure Color Envy Lipstick.

Estee Lauder Rebellious Rose 420 Pure Color Envy Lipstick.

Rebellious Rose is a beautiful rosy coral shade that would look spectacular with a variety of makeup looks. I have worn this delectable shade with the smokiest of eyes, never feeling overdone or out-of-place.  This is the perfect everyday, every occasion color.  My perfect “nude” if you will, without the corpse-like severity of many neutral shades.  As mentioned in previous posts, Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy lipsticks are hydrating, smooth and supple.  The satin formula imparts a slight sheen, which gives the lips a plump appearance.

When worn on its own, Rebellious Rose lasted 3½-4 hours.  However, when paired with It Cosmetics Blushing Nude YLBB Waterproof Lip Liner Stain (reviewed here), the color endured for 6 hours without any feathering–longer if I hadn’t removed what was left.  In all that time, my lips never felt dry, on the contrary, my lips were encapsulated with a veil of hydration that can only be described as, soothing.

One of my favorite ways to wear Rebellious Rose is paired with Dior Addict Fluid Stick in 975 Minuit (reviewed here).  In fact, this shade is so versatile, I have worn it with Dior Addict Fluid Sticks 869 Vie D’Enfer (reviewed here), 219 Whisper Beige, and 893 Trompe L’Oeil (reviewed here).  In every instance, the resulting hue was stunning.

For the complete ingredient list, please refer to this post here.  The ingredient list is so long, no website will dare post this record.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Estee Lauder Rebellious Rose 420 Pure Color Envy Lipstick is one of the most complimentary shade of lipsticks I have come across.  The rich color, creamy formula, fantastic color selection and unbelievably comfortable wear is enough of a reason to check-these-out.  If my cosmetically resistant sister loves these, then you know they are worth your time.  I have four and counting, how many do you plan on getting?  Be well, stay safe and be happy.

It Cosmetics Your Lips But Better Waterproof Lip Liner Stain in Spicy Nude, Perfect Red, and Blushing Nude.

I was always of the strong belief a quality lip liner could make or break any lip look.  Lip Liners are wondrous creations, intended to define lips, keep emollient lipsticks from feathering and provide color depth and dimension to any lip look.  It Cosmetics Your Lip But Better Waterproof Lip Liner Stain ($20 USD/.50 g/.017 oz.) performs all these tasks and more.  If I had to have one lip liner brand in my makeup arsenal, It Cosmetics YLBB Waterproof Lip Liner Stain would be “it” 🙂

It Cosmetics Your Lips But Better Waterproof Lip Liner Stain sharpener.

The Pros to It Cosmetics Your Lips But Better Waterproof Lip Liner Stain:

  1. Smooth application without tugging on the lips.
  2. Non-drying formula.
  3. Amazing longevity when worn alone (without eating).
  4. Once the color “sets,” it does not budge…hence the waterproof claim.
  5. Extends the longevity of lipsticks and lip glosses.
  6. Will prevent lipstick/lip glosses from feathering into fine lines around the lips.
  7. Can be layered (5 seconds between layers) without feeling heavy or uncomfortable.
  8. Twist-up mechanism eliminates the annoyance of having to sharpen the pencil (casing is really plastic not wood).
  9. Built-in tip “sharpener” located at the base of the pencil.
  10. Base of the packaging is color coated to match the shade inside the pencil.
  11. Spicy Nude (most universal shade) can be worn with a variety of colors ranging from lightest to darkest.
  12. Contains Collagen, Peptides, Hyaluronic Acid, Shea Butter, Argan, Jojoba and Avocado Oil.
  13. Lips never feel dry even after color has faded or been removed.
  14. Paraben-free and no animal testing.

The Cons to It Cosmetics Your Lips But Better Waterproof Lip Liner Stain:

  1. These beauties are loaded with silicones, Cyclopentasiloxane being the first ingredient.
  2. Seventh ingredient, Polyethylene is a plastic used to make plastic grocery bags, shampoo bottles and bullet-proof vests…Always a good idea to remove any lip color before eating.
  3. Limited color selection..only seven shades available.
  4. Lighter colors must be layered to show-up on pigmented lips; you could run-out of product faster with these shades.
  5. Staining claim is a bit ambiguous, on my pigmented lips there was no staining effect.
  6. If too much time lapses between layers, an additional layer can drag on the lips.
  7. Not impervious to greasy foods…skip the fried chicken, salad dressing, spaghetti and meatballs, etc..
  8. Limited physical retail locations…only sold in-person at Ulta.

My favorite color out of the trio, Spicy Nude is a soft brown based neutral color.  Oddly enough this color appears to have a mauve undertone when applied to my lips.  Additionally, this color is a bit tackier in feel than the others; however, it fuses brilliantly with all lipstick/lip glosses I have tested.  In my eyes, Spicy Nude is the most universal shade It Cosmetics offers.  I absolutely love the effect of Spicy Nude when paired with Dior Addict Fluid Stick 893 Trompe L’Oeil (reviewed here).

Perfect Red is a lovely warm tone red.  This color is rather pigmented, therefore, multiple layers are not really required.  When one layer was applied, the resilience was not as impressive as when 2-3 layers were used.  For the above photo, I paired one layer of Perfect Red with Dior Addict Fluid Stick 975 Minuit (reviewed here).  Even though the this combo lasted 4 hours, I did experience slight feathering around the upper lip region.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you It Cosmetics Your Lips But Better Waterproof Lip Liner Stains are wonderful.  I prefer these over my MAC Pro Longwear Lip Liners, Dior Lip Liners and Chanel Lip Liners.  If you have issues with lipstick feathering/bleeding, just like moi, then these beauties will become essential in your makeup wardrobe.  Just make certain to remove any lip product before eating.  Longevity in our lip products is great, but always be aware it is not a natural state and must be treated with caution.  Be well, stay safe and be happy.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 869 Vie D'Enfer and 219 Whisper Beige.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 869 Vie D’Enfer and 219 Whisper Beige.

Whenever I get the urge to enter a Sephora (an urge that happens quite often) I am drawn to the Dior display like a mesmerized moth to a burning flame.  Dior Addict Fluid Stick 869 Vie D’Enfer and 219 Whisper Beige ($35 USD/ 5.5 ml/.18 fl. oz.) were the two colors that were invoking the faintest plea for me to find them a home (see how my mind works).  Being the benevolent soul that I am, I immediately answered the call and happily added them to my growing Dior Addict Fluid Stick collection 🙂

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 869 Vie D’Enfer and 219 Whisper Beige swatches.

As with Dior Addict Fluid Stick 893 Trompe L’Oeil and 975 Minuit (reviewed here and here), both 869 Vie D’Enfer and 219 Whisper Beige are smooth and hydrating.  Whenever I wear this formula, my lips never feel dried-out, even well after the color has faded.  Granted, when worn on their own the lasting power averages 2-3 hours at most. However, when paired with It Cosmetics Your Lips But Better Waterproof Lipliner (a new discovery), Dior Addict Fluid Sticks last up to five hours.  The two formulas seem to bind together immediately (unlike with other lipliners), resulting in a deeper color, denser consistency, and amazing longevity.  Personally, I love the overall effect, especially because this particular lipliner really keeps feathering at bay.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 869 Vie D'Enfer.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 869 Vie D’Enfer.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 869 Vie D’Enfer is a coral/red that adds a touch of brightness and warmth to most complexions.  My sister, who has a cool undertone and presently darker than I am, was able to rock this color despite her initial hesitation.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 219 Whisper Beige.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 219 Whisper Beige.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 219 Whisper Beige is a light beige color with a warm undertone.  My intent for this shade was to layer it over darker colors.  Predictable on its own, 219 Whisper Beige does not last long at all–2 hours tops.  However, when added to other long-lasting lipsticks or lipliners, this seemingly unimpressive shade works its magic and delivers shine, hydration, and the perfect amount a diffused loveliness to any look.  This shade also plays well with other Dior Addict Fluid Sticks.  I love the resulting hue when paired with 975 Minuit.

When paired with Estee Lauder 210 Impulsive (reviewed here), Dior Addict Fluid Stick 869 Vie D’Enfer added warmth to this very pale shade of pink.  The resulting hue is the perfect summer-time coral.  The addition of It Cosmetics Spicy Nude Lipliner extended the wear an impressive five and half hours (without eating) and completely eliminated the threat of bleeding lipstick.

When paired with It Cosmetics Spicy Nude Lipliner, 219 Whisper Beige takes on a deeper and more noticeable persona (on my skin tone at least).  This combo lasted five hours, with copious amounts of speaking and drinking water (with a straw).  Not bad!!

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 975 Minuit review and color swatches.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 975 Minuit.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick #975 Minuit.

Dior Addict Fluid Sticks ($35 USD/5.5 ml) are quickly becoming an obsession.  The smooth, vibrant, lightweight formula is so comfortable to wear, I truly believe I have become a Dior Addict 🙂  My recent procurement, 975 Minuit has proven to be just as alluring as 893 Trompe L’Oeil (reviewed here).  As soon as I tried on this color, the sale associate insisted I purchase it over any other color.  To my surprise, she also supplied me with four sample colors to try: 338 Mirage, 551 Aventure, 575 Wonderland, and 754 Pandore.  For your viewing pleasure, I present all of my Dior Addict Fluid Stick swatches thus far.  I hope you find this helpful.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 975 Minuit.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick #975 Minuit.

Everything that was stated about 893 Trompe L’Oeil applies to 975 Minuit.  The only difference being, 975 Minuit leaves behind a more noticeable stain when the color has worn-off.  Minuit is a deep red with slight brown undertones, it can be applied lightly or full-on for a more dramatic look.  The gel-like formula glides on the lips like butter.  The high shine and hydrating properties make Dior Fluid Sticks perfect companions for traditional lipstick formulas.  I love to pair Dior Fluid Sticks with Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipsticks (reviewed here) to give my lips a more plump and vibrant appearance.  This coupling lasted beautifully for 5 hours without feeling dry or feathering into my fine lines.

The specially designed applicator hugs the lips perfectly to deposit just the right amount of color with one swipe.  Dior Fluid Stick 975 Minuit lasts approximately 3 hours on its own; however, when paired with a lipliner or “regular” lipstick, I am able to get 4-5 hours of wear.

#893 Trompe L’Oeil, #975 Minuit, #338 Mirage, #551 Aventure, #575 Wonderland, and #754 Pandore.

As expected, the delicate staining effect is quite evident with the darker colors.  338 Mirage did not last long at all–as seen by the lack of pigment left behind after one swipe with a makeup wipe.  Minuit and Pandore wore the best out of the lot and the pink stain that remained was quite flattering.

According to the lovely sale associate at my Macy’s counter, Dior comprised this packet based on the assumption these four colors will be their biggest sellers.  I cannot fully agree with that assumption…I adore the darker shades, although 219 Whisper Beige (not in the sample packet) would make a great topper shade for darker lip colors.  I tried it on combined with Minuit and the resulting shade was beautiful.

Dior Addict Fluid Sticks are now available at Sephora, Nordstrom, Dior.com, Macys, etc…

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you if you have not tried Dior Addict Fluid Sticks, you need to rectify that oversight immediately.  I really cannot stress how lovely these lipstick hybrids apply, wear and feel.  The vast selection of color choices also makes it easy for anyone to find a suitable color to their liking.  I found three and counting 🙂 Which colors do you fancy?  Be well and stay safe.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 893 Trompe L’Oeil review and photos.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 893 Trompe L'Oeil.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 893 Trompe L’Oeil.

When it comes to lipsticks, very few items hold my attention.  My beloved Shiseido Lacquer Rouge liquid lipsticks set a very high standard.  Liquid lipsticks have been done from here to there to everywhere. However, leave it to Dior to create a new “hybrid” type of liquid lip product that promises high impact shine, longevity, weightless feel and outstanding application and wear.  Today for your consideration I present, Dior Addict Fluid Stick 893 Trompe L’Oeil  ($35 USD/5.5 ml).  According to Dior:

Flawless application in a single sweep: the high-impact colour and long wear of a lipstick, combined with the shine of a gloss, all in a thin veil that delivers a weightless feel. Colour and shine come together for maximum impact with intense lip stain pigments directly encapsulated in spheres of gloss for long-wearing results. Dior Addict Fluid Stick is formulated with water, not wax, for a light feeling on the lips, an immediate fresh effect and addictive sensation.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 893 Trompe L'Oeil

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 893 Trompe L’Oeil.

The Pros of Dior Addict Fluid Stick 893 Trompe L’Oeil:

  1. Amazing vibrant violet/pink color–great for those who tend to shy away from reds.
  2. Cooling sensation upon application.
  3. Lightweight feel that adheres smoothly to the lips.
  4. Phenomenal coverage with one swipe.
  5. Definite high shine remains for a couple of hours.
  6. Light stain is left behind after the color fades.
  7. Non-drying gel-like formula keeps lips hydrated even after color wears-off.
  8. Color wears-off evenly throughout the day.
  9. Slight cool blue undertone makes teeth appear whiter.
  10. Very faint fragrance..almost pleasant..this is coming from someone who loathes fragrance in lip products.
  11. Does not bleed into fine lines, without a lipliner…if worn in moderation.
  12. Can be worn with a well blended lipliner to give the color more depth and dimension.
  13. Can be layered over a “regular” lipstick for a glossy pout.
  14. Easily removable for application of a fresh layer.
  15. Adorable packaging..the inner tube is shaped like a tube of lipstick…very clever.
  16. Formulated without parabens or mineral oil..however, BHT is an ingredient.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 893 Trompe L'Oeil

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 893 Trompe L’Oeil

The Cons to Dior Addict Fluid Stick 893 Trompe L’Oeil:

  1. Does not adhere well to unblended/harsh lipliners–just sits on top of the liner.
  2. Water-based formula does not yield super long-lasting wear.  I am able to get full color coverage for 3 hours.
  3. Will transfer onto a variety of surfaces…no afternoon smooching 🙂
  4. Being that this is a gloss/lipstick hybrid, hair will get stuck in the lip color should a hearty gust of wind make your acquaintance 🙂
  5. Slight tacky feel, similar to a gloss…I happen to like the feeling, some may not.
  6. If applied in excess, feathering will occur and product will collect at the corners of the mouth.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 893 Trompe L'Oeil with Estee Lauder Currant Lipliner.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 893 Trompe L’Oeil with Estee Lauder Currant Lipliner.

As you can see in the above photos, Estee Lauder Currant Lipliner was heavily applied to the perimeter of the lips and purposely not blended.  Due to the unique nature of this formula, Dior Fluid Sticks do not merge with lipliners as well as “regular” lipsticks.  For the above photos, I had to really press and rub my lips together to thoroughly blend the liner with the Fluid Stick.  Even then, the harsh lipliner line was still visible “through” the lipstick.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 893 Trompe L’Oeil with MAC Trust-in-Red Pro Longwear Lip Pencil.

For the above photos, I applied a light and even layer of MAC Trust-in-Red Pro Longwear Lipliner prior to the application of Dior Addict Fluid Stick 893 Trompe L’Oeil.  As you can see, because the lipliner was applied smoothly and evenly, 893 Trompe L’Oeil clung to the liner seamlessly.  Remember, Dior Fluid Sticks are formulated to hug the lips, presumably, an uneven lipliner/lipstick would interfere with the formula’s binding properties.

When paired with a thin layer of Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy in 210 Impulsive (reviewed here), the resulting hue did not feather into my fine lines and lasted for 4 hours.  This lip combo was such an attractive and comfortable coupling–I’m Smitten!

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Dior has hit a home run with these Fluid Sticks.  I am officially obsessed with the colors and formulation.  I have never been able to wear a gloss of any type with this much success.  These may very well replace my beloved Shiseido Lacquer Rouge (reviewed here), as my favorite lipstick formulation.  Do you need these babies?  OH YES!!  I talked about my love for 893 Trompe L’Oeil so much, my husband purchased Dior Addict Fluid Stick 975 Minuit as part of my Easter Basket surprise.  Gotta love it when your partner “gets” what makes you happy.  Be well and stay safe.

L’Oreal Extraordinaire Colour Riche:
#306 scarlet Concerto and #502 Plum Adagio.

While I was at the drugstore picking up some medicine (..I swear), I stumbled upon the display for L’Oreal Extraordinarie Colour Riche Liquid Lipsticks($7.99-$10.99 US).  The promise of long-lasting saturated color and shine piqued my curiosity.  Predictably, I chose the two darkest shades–#306 Scarlet Concerto and #502 Plum Adagio.  Immediately, I saw a striking similarity in packaging to YSL Glossy Stains (those feathered all over my lips and the scent was bothersome); however, the formula description sounded reminiscent of my beloved Shiseido Lacquer Rouge (here) and my Estee Lauder Ruby Glow (here).  Was my premature enthusiasm justified or would these lipsticks be a complete disappointment?  You’ll see 🙂 .

  2. Impressive color selection; 16 shades in all.
  3. Faux colored window in the front of the package matches the color of the product inside.
  4. Permanent in the range.

L’Oreal Extraordinaire Colour Riche:

The Cons:

  1. The scent used for L’Oréal Extraordinarie Colour Riche Liquid Lipsticks was unbearable (fruity chemical scent mixed with perfume anyone?).
  2. Lasting power was comical (an hour and a half).
  3. A second coat yielded patchy results.
  4. Both colors are prone to bleeding out into fine lines.
  5. Easily transferable on cups and etc..
  6. The slippery texture feels uncomfortable and looks poor-quality.
  7. These are slightly more pigmented glosses rather than liquid lipsticks.
  8. The price discrepancy between retailers is ridiculous ($10.99 at some drugstores, $9.99 online, $7.99 at Target).
  9. Ludicrous price for such a poor product; MAC lipsticks are $15.

Makeup would tell you L’Oreal Extraordinarie Colour Riche Liquid Lipsticks were beyond disappointing.  It goes without saying, these went back.  Love them or leave them, what say you?  Be well and stay safe.

MAC Huggable Lipcolour in Red Necessity review and photos.

MAC Huggable Lipcolour in Red Necessity.

MAC Huggable Lipcolour in Red Necessity.

The cold weather seems to have taken hold of all the moisture in my being.  Lately, I am not satisfied with any of the recent lip products I have purchased.  Some formulas are too dry, some start off feeling heavenly and within the hour my lips go from looking like a succulent grape to a shriveled up raisin, and other formulations are just flat-out odd.  My latest go-to product for a hydrating red lip has been MAC Huggable Lipcolour in Red Necessity ($20 US/3.2g).  The balm-like texture provides hydration, shine, and comfortable wear.  The following description is used by MAC to describe Huggable Lipcolours:

When it comes to gorgeous lips, don’t compromise shine for colour. You can have it all in a new formula inspired by Asian trends, hugging your lips in 12 hues that stay bright and luminous for up to six hours. Featuring an array of creamy emollients, Huggable Lipcolour provides a lasting, glossy finish that leaves lips smooth and sculpted.

MAC Huggable Lipcolour in Red Necessity.

MAC Huggable Lipcolour in Red Necessity.

The Pros:

  1. Beautiful cool toned raspberry-red color (makes teeth appear whiter).
  2. Gel-based formula provides a silky texture that glides on seamlessly and truly “hugs” the lips.
  3. Sheer color tone with substantial color payoff.
  4. Appropriate for daytime; not as opaque and bold as regular lipsticks.
  5. Gorgeous shine makes lips appear plump and luscious.
  6. Milder vanilla scent compared to MAC’s regular lipstick.
  7. Formulated without parabens or mineral oil.
  8. Pairs beautifully with drier matte formulas in MAC’s lipstick range, to provide depth and moisture.
  9. Attractive gunmetal packaging.
  10. 12 colors in the range to suit every taste.
  11. A very close dupe for Chanel Esprit 88 Rouge Coco Shine (reviewed here). MAC is a touch deeper in tone and has more of a shine than Chanel.  In person, my husband barely saw a difference between the two colors.
Comparison L-R: Chanel Esprit 88 Rouge Coco Shine vs. MAC Huggable Lipcolour in Red Necessity.

Top Lip: Chanel Esprit Rouge Coco Shine. Bottom Lip: MAC Huggable Lipcolour in red Necessity.

Top Lip: Chanel Esprit 88 Rouge Coco Shine.
Bottom Lip:  MAC Huggable Lipcolour in Red Necessity.

The Cons:

  1. Saturated color requires a mirror for application.
  2. Not as long-lasting as advertised; on its own, the color and moisture lasted for 3 hours.
  3. Reapplication is possible, but color build-up can result in feathering.
  4. Due to the emollient nature of the formula, a lipliner is a must if one wishes to avoid feathering (if this is an issue for you).
  5. As expected, Red Necessity does transfer easily on a variety of surfaces (cups, faces, other lips, shirt collars…you get the point 🙂 ).
  6. Limited-edition.

Application:

My favorite use for MAC Huggable Lipcolour in Red Necessity is to pair it with Studded Kiss (a dry matte formula).  I prefer to use dabbing motions instead of sweeping the color across my lips.  I have serious issues with feathering; therefore, this method works perfectly for my needs.  I have worn Red Necessity on its own (lightly) and with a lipliner and the results were equally as lovely.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you if you are in the market for a lipstick that provides surface hydration, saturated color, shine and comfort then MAC Huggable Lipcolours are for you.  I truly enjoy this formula, but I have to admit, I was hoping the six-hour claim would be true.  Sadly, the “up to six hours” term is an ambiguous statement; bless those advertising executives and their crafty wording.  Up next, L’Oreal Extraordiniare by Colour Riche review.  Be well and stay safe.

Estee Lauder Pure Color High Intensity Lip Lacquer in Liquid Petal review and swatches.

Estee Lauder Pure Color High Intensity Lip Lacquer in Liquid Petal alone without any lipliner.

Estee Lauder Cosmetics produces some amazing products. The Double Wear Foundation is my HG foundation, the Pure Color blushes are highly pigmented and contain 7 grams worth of product, and their nail polishes are some of the best in the business.  My newest procurement, Pure Color High Intensity Lip Lacquer in Liquid Petal ($25 US/ 6g) is a welcomed addition to my ever growing Estee Lauder family. Since, I already reviewed Pure Color Lip Lacquer in Ruby Glow in great detail (here), I will make this review short and sweet….that remains to be seen!

Estee Lauder Pure Color High Intensity Lip Lacquer in Liquid Petal w/MAC Red Enriched lipliner.

The Pros:

  1. Highly pigmented gloss.
  2. Gorgeous mauve/pink color.  Pulls slightly pinky peach against my skin tone.
  3. Can be applied without a mirror due to the lighter-tone pigment composition (be vigilant and apply a thin layer).
  4. Slightly thick consistency will ensure the shine and color remain.
  5. Liquid Petal lasted three hours full strength.
  6. Specially designed curved applicator hugs the lips for comfortable and precise application.
  7. Very moisturizing..does not dry out your lips when the color has faded.
  8. Makes lips look plump and sexy.
  9. Wipes cleanly without any sticky residue.

The Cons:

  1. For some reason Liquid Petal does have a slight Play-doe fragrance.
  2. Liquid Petal contains miro-shimmers (not too offensive or noticeable).
  3. Petrolatum is an ingredient (AKA: mineral oil/vaseline).
  4. Liquid Petal does feather into fine lines around the mouth if a primer/lipliner/lipstick is not used beforehand.
  5. Liquid Petal does feather into fine lines if too much product is applied on the lips (I prefer to apply one layer with the applicator and use my fingers to blend out the color. Another option is to place the color on the back of your hand and dab some gloss with your finger to the center of the lips).
  6. Performs better over a lipliner/lipstick combo (with lipliner alone it did bleed out into my fine lines).

**Drugstore Alternative:  NYX Xtreme Lip Creams (purchase here).   I could not tolerate the heavy Play-doe smell and gloppy gloss reserve around the applicator.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you if you are interested in a paler shade of gloss, but desire pigment  and longevity in your product, then Estee Lauder Pure Color High Intensity Lip Lacquer in Liquid Petal is the shade for you. Personally, I find this particular color to perform really well over a lipliner/lipstick combo.  The less dense pink pigment did not allow Liquid Petal to last as long as Ruby Glow, but that is to be expected with any lighter colored lip product.  I am currently eyeing Peach Glass and Wet Plum.  Have you tried any of these Lip Lacquers?  Be well and stay safe.
