Bobbi Brown Taupe Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick.

When it comes to naturally beautiful makeup, no other brand does it better than Bobbi Brown.  I’m well aware you can use any product to achieve a wholesome look, but there is something about the color selection, texture and quality of her cosmetics, that makes this brand a complete standout.  As promised, Bobbi Brown Taupe Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick ($29 USD/ 1.6g) has been received, used and loved.  This sublime sepia color is sure to be a hit on everyone’s list.  I hope you enjoy.

  • Taupe is described as a matte medium caramel color; I would say that description is quite accurate.  Personally, I equate this color as being in the same color family as MAC Uninterrupted and Bobbi Brown Camel.  These types of shades are outstanding for a quick wash of color all over the mobile lid and blended right into the crease, on the lower lash line, and on the waterline.
  • The texture of Taupe is, dare I say, even creamier than Sand Dune (reviewed here).  Both colors perform exactly the same and blend into the skin with the greatest of ease, but Taupe seems a bit more dense in color and feel.  As you can tell from the swatch above, the high level of pigment may very well be the culprit for this velvety smoothness.
  • As with all my shadow sticks, the longevity is truly amazing.  Personally, I always apply NYX Primer (reviewed here) prior to any eyeshadow application.  This little extra step certainly payoffs by allowing the cream to adhere to the skin more securely–thus preventing fading and/or creasing.
Wearing Bobbi Brown Taupe

  • For the past week, I have been really enjoying using Taupe as a one-step-wonder.  For the above photo, Taupe was used on the mobile lid and blended up past the crease, smudged on the lower lash line and placed on the lower waterline.  As you can tell, the effect was not too drastic, rather the finish was soft and sophisticated–just as Bobbi intended.
  • When blended, Taupe truly gives a natural shadow to the crease and socket bone area. Adding a cream color (Anastasia Cream eyeshadow) right under the arch of the brow, and blending it down toward the edge of Taupe, finishes off the look perfectly.
  • Fingers can be used, but since my fingers are rather large, I utilize a synthetic concealer brush for more accuracy and a smoother finish.
  • The above look lasted impeccably all day (11 hours), with a substantial part of that time spent in a humid pool environment.

  • Similar to Sand Dune, Taupe can also be used as a base for powder eyeshadows.  For the above photo, Taupe was placed along the waterline and on the mobile lid, then topped with Colourpop’s Puppy Love on the center of the lid.  IMHO, the warm brown base accentuated my brown eyes beautifully, making the look seem more etherial and polished.
  • Those with green and blue eyes would probably benefit greatly from Taupe as well.  These types of mid-tone warm brown shades, contrast perfectly with the cool notes inherent in lighter eye colors.

  • For all those young ladies with Prom on the brain, a quick layer of Taupe topped with a golden sparkling eyeshadow, would make for a festive, yet age appropriate look that will surely last all night long.
  • Interestingly enough, the addition of a golden topper shade seems to tone down the warmth of Taupe significantly–not necessarily a bad thing, just something worth noting.

  • As with ALL of my shadow sticks, Taupe seems to have followed suit and dislodged from the base of the roll up mechanism.  As stated many times over, if you are like me, this sort of mishap occurs when too much pressure is used during application.
  • Simply, place the stick back on the base, press down gently and roll the shadow down to a favorable position.  Thankfully, the color and performance is not compromised in the least.

Comparison L-R:
Bobbi Brown Taupe Powder Eyeshadow, Bobbi Brown Taupe Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick, Bobbi Brown Sand Dune Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick.

  • Bobbi Brown Taupe (4) Powder Eyeshadow is clearly in the same color family as Taupe cream stick.  I remembering using this shadow religiously a couple of years ago; the silky smooth consistency is still very much present in what remains of my four-year old shadow.
  • Bobbi Brown Taupe (22) Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick is just too luscious for words.  As you can tell, the intensity is evident on the first swipe and despite the rich color payoff, the overall feel on the lids is rather lightweight.  The lasting power on the waterline is also quite impressive–I went a full five hours before I needed to touch-up the outer corners (this will vary depending on how watery your eyes get).
  • Bobbi Brown Sand Dune (6) Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick is lighter and more sheer than Taupe.  Inarguably, this color is perfect for those who love a no-makeup look and require an office friendly shade.  As stated in my pervious review, this is the ultimate, can’t-go-wrong, go-with-anything type of color.

THE VERDICT:  If Makeup Could Talk what would it say?

Makeup would state the obvious, Bobbi Brown Taupe Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick is outstanding. If you are into sophisticated beauty looks, then do not hesitate for a second to grab Taupe and/or Sand Dune. In keeping with the whole matte cream stick motif, I now have my sights squarely set on Shadow Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick (the grey one)–what can I say–Bobbi is on a roll in The House of IMCT, better to go with the flow, rather than to turn away such good fortune.  🙂  Will you be joining me? Until next time, be well, stay safe and be happy.

Bobbi Brown Sand Dune Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick review and photos.

Bobbi Brown Sand Dune

As stated many times over on this blog, I absolutely love eye shadow sticks.  The creaminess, convenient application, opaque coloring, phenomenal longevity and versatility are all-encompassing with regards to this type of eyeshadow formula.  Bobbi Brown Sand Dune Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick ($29 USD/1.6g) is the latest brand to fall prey to my obsession.  This may very well be one of the few products I will declare a must-have.  I hope you enjoy!

The Pros to Bobbi Brown Sand Dune Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick:

  1. Incredibly creamy consistency.
  2. Soft beige tan color –IMHO, very reminiscent (not an exact dupe) of MAC Groundwork paint pot.
  3. Matte finish is not too flat, which is ideal for everyone, but especially on more mature lids.
  4. Fantastic as a stand alone color or a base for powder eyeshadows.
  5. Excellent no-fuss shadow for busy mornings.
  6. Sets within a minute–plenty of time to blend out edges and devise a shape.
  7. Can be applied directly from the stick and blended with fingers or brushes.
  8. Lasts 10 hours + without any fading or creasing when applied over my NYX primer.
  9. Medium and darker skins can use Sand Dune as a lower waterline color and/or MLBB shade.
  10. Quite flattering on ALL eye colors–however, blue and green eyes will certainly pop against this shade.
  11. Packaging is perfect for travel and touchups (on the waterline) throughout the day.
  12. Formulated without parabens, mineral oil or fragrance.
  13. Made in Italy.

The Cons to Bobbi Brown Sand Dune Long-Wear Cream Shadow:

  1. Quite expensive–however, all higher-end shadow sticks fall into the price range of $25-$43.
  2. Creamy texture is not ideal as a lower waterline color option for contact lens wears.
  3. Fading on the outer an inner corners of the waterline occur after 3 hours.  The center area of the eye remains intact for a good part of the day.
  4. As with all of my shade sticks, the stick itself dislodges from the base if too much pressure is used during application.  I just hold and gently press the stick back onto the base–a bit annoying, but par of the course when dealing this type of cream eyeshadow design.

Bobbi Brown Sand Dune

  • Without any exaggeration, Sand Dune has been used everyday since its acquisition three weeks ago.  As you can tell from the above photo, my stick is chiseled down a quarter of the way–a solid indication a back-up is needed ASAP.
  • I literally take this guy everywhere with me.  When I know I will be out for a respectable portion of the day, Sand Dune makes the ideal purse friendly travel companion.  A quick swipe on the waterline, instantly revitalizes my eyes in the most subtle fashion.
  • Other brands (Laura Mercier, Marc Jacobs, Nars, Trish McEvoy) have shimmer and glittery shade sticks in their lineup–leave it to Bobbi Brown to provide neutral matte options in her collection–GENIUS if you ask me.

THE VERDICT:  If Makeup Could Talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Bobbi Brown Sand Dune Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick is HG material. The warm matte tan coloring is just so darn flattering against my complexion, I cannot fathom being without it in my life.  Quite a dramatic statement indeed, but when I love something it is true and deep.  🙂  The next set of colors on the way are Taupe and Goldstone–hey, what better way to completely consume my holiday gift cards?  Until next time, be well, stay safe and be happy.
