Bobbi Brown Suede Long-Wear Cream Shadow review and looks.

Bobbi Brown Suede

As expected, this time of year is the busiest season for many.  Personally, bustling my children from one activity to another has left little time to focus on my beloved cosmetics.  My go-to products have been the kind I know will last throughout the day.  Bobbi Brown Suede Cream Shadow ($26 USD/3.5g) has been a newly acquired favorite.  The long-lasting wear, cream finish and delectable taupe shade is the epitome of sophisticated simplicity.  Now I ask you, who wouldn’t want that?  I hope you enjoy!

Bobbi Brown Suede

  • As with most Bobbi Brown cream products, Suede is housed in an elegant thick glass pot.  The square-shaped base has always been a favorite design of mine; although, the opening could be a bit wider for easier access to the cream.  The narrow opening makes maneuvering larger fingers and brush heads difficult, especially towards the bottom of the pot.
  • Despite these minor superficialities, this has not stopped me from purchasing the color Shore (pale nude) twice and moving on to Suede.
  • Overall, the formula of BB cream shadows is outstanding.  The setting time ranges between 10-20 seconds, enough time to manipulate the cream to the desired area.  Do bear in mind, once these babies set, they do not budge (especially over a primer).
  • Suede makes excellent stand alone color and base for powdered eyeshadow.
  • The rich creamy texture applies smoothly without tugging or dragging on the skin.
  • A synthetic brush is ideally suited to apply this creamy color evenly on the lids.  Fingers can be used, but in my experience, this method does not provide easy access to the product and the results can be a bit uneven.

Bobbi Brown Suede

  • Suede is a lovely taupe brown shade that becomes almost one with my coloring.  The opaque coverage instantly hides veining and evens out my lid space.
  • The absence of any shimmer makes this the ideal finish for the office, school functions, or any professional event.
  • Against my complexion, this is the MLBB (my lid but better) shade.  Suede provides a delicate hint of color without being too drastic or stark in appearance.
  • I find this particular color to be a bit of a chameleon–Suede shifts in tone from cool to warm depending on lighting and/or accompanying eyeshadow colors.

  • As the above photo shows, when used as a stand alone color, over my clear NYX Primer (reviewed here), Suede translates as a light warm brown.
  • For anyone with a similar complexion to mine, this is the ideal shade for no-fuss makeup days–when paired with some liner and mascara, the results are chic without being boring.  This effortless look held true for an 11 hour stretch, without any fading, creasing or transfer.

  • The above photo shows how Suede’s underlying gray tinge is accentuated with the addition Vincent Longo Intergalactic (reviewed here) in the crease.  The inherent cool tones found in Intergalactic brings out the same likeness in Suede.
  • To balance off the look, a warm neutral shade (MAC Uninterrupted) was used above the crease and lower lash line.

  • The above photos shows Suede’s taupe side when a golden topper shade is added.  Laura Mercier Wet Sand (reviewed here) was used over Suede for a more festive look.  This sparkling effect makes an exceptional holiday look and it’s neutrality pairs beautifully with any lip color.
  • Admittedly, I wore this exact eye look for Thanksgiving and plan on duplicating its success for Christmas.  FYI, Wet Sand clung to Suede perfectly for a full 12 hours, without any sparkle migration or transfer.

  • This final look demonstrates Suede’s warmer range.  For the above look, Laura Mercier Blazing Sun was added lightly on top of Suede and paired with Giorgio Armani Vulcano (reviewed here) along the lash line.  Although my camera was unable to pick-up the bronze sparkle, I can attest the effect was quite attractive and noticeable in person.

THE VERDICT:  If Makeup Could Talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Bobbi Brown Suede Long-Wear Cream Shadow has become a staple in my collection.  The long-wearing formula, cream finish, smooth application, neutral coloring and versatility does not get any better.  If fast, easy and effortless is your thing, then Bobbi is your girl. 🙂  Until next time, be well, stay safe and be happy.
