Makeup of the Week Twelfth Edition.

For the past several weeks I have been experimenting with some items in my collection.  As you can imagine, I have an extensive selection of products to choose from.  For this Makeup of the Week: Twelfth Edition, I thought it would be interesting to see if some of my face products could perform double duty as my eye makeup.   As a result, the overall look turned out better than I had imagined.  The blushes, bronzers and face powders had exceptional longevity and gave my eyes the “glow” I usually reserve for my face.  I hope you too will feel inspired to put your face products to work on your eyes.  Enjoy my lovelies.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you to have fun with your makeup.  Use your face products to their utmost abilities, after all you did pay a pretty penny to acquire them.  If you don’t like the results, you can always start anew.  What are your ultimate multi-tasking products?  Be well and stay safe.

Makeup of the Week Ninth Edition.

Makeup of the Week Ninth Edition.

This week’s look was fast and easy using minimal products (for me at least).  The theme for the week was rediscovery; to use forgotten products within my collection.  Usually I’m pretty good at deciphering what will work for me in the long run and what will end-up in my “donation basket.”  However, it is wise to try to use these products again before discarding them or giving them away. Absence does make the heart grow fonder, thus making the reunion that much sweeter 🙂  Enjoy!

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you as time passes your perceptions and taste will change.  Products that may not have worked for you in the past should be given another chance.  You never know, you may find a new use for them in your present routine.  I rediscovered Burberry Summer Glow Palette’s bronzer half worked perfectly with my current coloring.  Edward Bess Luxury Eye Brush head is a bit too big to use as a sole eyeshadow brush, but I rediscovered its magical ability to blend out any color to perfection.  MAC Too Chic Beauty Powder imparts a flattering subtle golden highlight color, appropriate for a daytime chic makeup look.  What have you rediscovered in your stash lately?  Be well and stay safe.

Makeup of the Week Eighth Edition.

Makeup of the Week Eighth Edition.

This has been a very busy week.  My children started school and that in it of itself is always stressful.  The silver lining in this scenario is, I have gained some much needed time to myself.  I had time to carefully apply my makeup without any interruptions, it’s the little things in life that make me happy.  Admittedly, I do miss my eldest son’s commentaries and photographic assistance.

This week’s look was centered around my lashes.  Truthfully, I never gave them much thought, until Mary Kay Lash Love Lengthening Mascara came into my life.  The delivery of zero flaking, no clumps, no stiffness all wrapped-up in a lightweight formula was enough for me to declare, love at first application!  I hope you find this post helpful.

This Makeup of the Week: Seventh Edition Golden Eyes will feature a brightening, quick and low maintenance look.  My gel liners worked as the ideal multi-purpose product, giving me a long-lasting and smudge-free eye look.  People will think you spent hours on your eye makeup, when only ten minutes were employed.  There is something about pairing gold with navy blue, which I find so attractive and universally flattering.  I hope you enjoy.  *click on each photo to enlarge.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would reveal this makeup look took no time to put together.  Try to utilize multi-purpose products if time is of the essence in the morning.  Gel liners work beautifully as cream eyeshadows, bronzer can be used for crease color/eyeshadow, and lipstick could also take on the role of blusher.   Learn to be creative with the use of your cosmetics to suit your life style.  You may come up with unique one-of-a-kind colors, and save money to boot.  Of course in my case, this only leads me to spend more money to see if I can duplicate my success.  Oh well…every theory has it’s flaws 🙂  Be well and stay safe.

Chanel Inspiration 64 Le Blush Creme de Chanel review, swatches, and photos.

Chanel Inspiration 64 Le Blush Creme de Chanel.

Chanel Inspiration 64 Le Blush Creme de Chanel.

My goal for this week was to bag and tag the new Chanel #70 Les Beige powder to use as a bronzer. However, when I went to see the compacts in person, I could not help but detect fragrance in the formula. Acknowledging my distaste for any sort of perfumed scent in my cosmetics, I quickly put the prospect of that purchase out of my heart and head.  To soothe my broken heart, I turned my attention to Chanel Inspiration 64 Le Blush Creme de Chanel ($38 US/ 2.5 g) part of the Fall 2013 Superstition Collection.  If this color/formula was anything like Destiny (61) (reviewed here) I knew I would not have any regrets. *click on each photo to enlarge.

Chanel Inspiration (64) Le Blush Creme de Chanel swatch on the cheeks.

The Color/Pros:

As suspected, Inspiration (64) was just as irresistible and impressive as Destiny (61).  Inspiration (64) is a baby doll pink with a slight lavender undertone.  According to the sales girl at the Chanel counter, this is her #1 seller in the Le Blush Creme range.  I did find this color very fresh and surprisingly similar to the color of naturally flushed cheeks.  The lovely sales associate was sporting Inspiration (64) and it looked spectacular against her blonde hair, blue eyes, porcelain skinned complexion.  Personally, I like to mix Inspiration (64) with Destiny (61) to get a customized deep rosy/pink shade.

L-R:  Chanel Destiny (61), Chanel Inspiration (64), and both colors blended together.

Chanel Inspiration (64) was extremely long-lasting and lightweight.  The formulation of these cream to powder blushes is extraordinary, they blend into the skin seamlessly.  Dispense with brushes of any kind, fingers are the optimum tool to use with all of the Chanel Le Blush Creme blushes.  Inspiration (64) lasted an impressive ten hours on my cheeks, with gradually fading thereafter.  Chanel has wisely chosen to formulate these blushes without fragrance and parabens. ♥ I simply cannot stress the brilliance of these blushes.

The Cons:

As stated in my pervious review of Destiny (61), the amount/price ratio is my primary complaint.  I would have liked to have had more product for the money.  Thankfully, minimal product is needed to obtain full impact, so I do expect my compact to last awhile.  Of course the limited-edition factor does put an additional damper in my otherwise glowing review.  However, Chanel’s limited-edition claim is not strongly enforced (Chanel Graphite nail lacquer is still available two years later).

Chanel Cosmetics are sold in all fine department stores; Lord & Taylor, Nordstrom, Saks, Bergdorf, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales, Macy’s, and Chanel.com.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you a planned trip to the Chanel counter is strongly recommended.  Chanel Inspiration (64) Le Blush Creme de Chanel was an unexpected find.   I will certainly utilize this particular color in abundance during the cooler months, when my skin returns to its former paler glory.  If you have more than one of the Chanel Le blush Cremes, do not hesitate to mix the hues to create a custom color of your own.  The thin mirrored compact packaging also makes these blushes travel friendly.  Case closed.  Up next….Chanel Esprit 88 Rouge Coco Shine review…so many Chanel goodies, so little time to write.  Be well and stay safe.

This Makeup of the Week: Sixth Edition will feature all the lovely goodies I acquired last week from my visit to the CCO.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with a CCO (Cosmetics Company Outlet), it is an outlet store the Estee Lauder Company has cleverly established to sell all of their overstock merchandise from their subsidiary brands.  All cosmetics/fragrance brands included are: Estee Lauder, MAC, Clinique, Bobbi Brown, Joe Malone, Flirt, Smashbox, Bumble and Bumble, Origins, Donna Karen, Tom Ford, Ojon, Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors and Prescriptives.  All items in store are sold at a 30% discount off the original retail price.  As an added bonus, the sales women are lovely and customers have the comfort/freedom to swatch and roam for as long as one desires.  Who could ask for more?

Chanel Destiny 61 Le Blush Creme de Chanel review, swatches and comparisons.

Chanel Destiny 61 Le Blush Creme de Chanel.

Chanel Destiny 61 Le Blush Creme de Chanel.

Admittedly, I had absolutely zero intentions of purchasing the new cream blushes from Chanel, but the very young, bright-eyed, sweet sales associate had me at, “Hello, my name is so and so, if you need help or have any questions I’ll be right over there (pointing to the other side of the counter).”  How refreshing, politeness and no hovering or pressure to buy anything, this sale approach solidified my intent to purchase something/anything (as if I needed an excuse ) 🙂 My stress free experience lead me to acquire Chanel Destiny 61 Le Blush Creme de Chanel ($38 US/2.5g). *click on each photo to enlarge*

The Color:

After much thought and consideration, the “black sheep” of the Chanel Le Blush Creme de Chanel family stood out to me for a variety of reasons. Even though Chanel Destiny (61) appears dark and bland in the pan, this rosy/brown color would suit a variety of makeup looks and skin tones.  Darker skinned beauties would fare better with one of the other brighter colors in the line-up.  This blush could easily pair nicely with a smokey eye/nude lip combination or a minimal black winged liner/red lip look.  I also thought it interesting to layer an opposing color powder blush on top of the Chanel Destiny to give depth and dimension to my powder blushes.  Depending on the intensity in which it is applied, Chanel Destiny (61) could possibly be the most versatile color (out of the six colors offered) in this limited-edition collection.

Chanel Destiny (61) on cheeks.

Chanel Destiny (61) w/Sunday Riley Blushing on cheeks.

The Pros/Formula:

Chanel has out done itself with this cream to powder formula.  Destiny (61) glides on the skin so smoothly and dries down instantly to a powder matte finish.  Application was most favorable when fingers were used. Despite the sheerness of the first layer, Destiny (61) does build up rather quickly and seamlessly.  On its own, Destiny (61) lasted an impressive nine hours full strength and faded gradually as the day progressed. I suspect my dry skin lent a helping hand with the amazing lasting power.  The finish, color and warmth this brings to the face is so flattering, there are days when I do not feel a need to apply bronzer.

Shamelessly posing as the guinea pig in this scenario, I experimented with applying Sunday Riley’s Blushing blush (a pink blush) on top of Destiny (61); the results were so complex and lovely.  The method of layering powder on creme ensures your blush stays put for the entirety of the day.  The packaging of Chanel Le Blush Creme is also conducive for travel; a lightweight, thinly mirrored compact with a wide surface area for easy accessibility to the product.

Chanel Le Blush Creme de Chanel Destiny (61) on the cheeks.

Chanel Le Blush Creme de Chanel Destiny (61) on the cheeks.

The Cons:

The amount/price ratio is a bit unsettling ($38 US/2.5 grams).  Chanel should have considered making this product at least 5 grams, which would have been on par with other cream blush formulas.  Very little product is needed to obtain full impact, however I would have liked to have had a more substantial amount for my money.

Comparisons:

Instantly, I saw a correlation with two other cream products in my arsenal; YSL #3 Silky Praline Creme de Blush and Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel (aka: Bronze Universel).  YSL Creme de Blush is a cream to powder formula with moderate lasting power, and the color is deeper than Destiny (61). Chanel Bronze Universel retains its creamy nature and has a noticeable brown/orange undertone (especially visible on lighter skin tones).

An alluring quality to Chanel Le Blush Creme is the absence of fragrance and parabens; YSL Creme de Blush is very heavily scented and Chanel Bronze Universel is scented and contains five parabens. Fragrance in my cosmetics irritates me to no end, sadly for this reason, I can no longer wear either product.  The packaging for YSL Creme de Blush is inconvenient, the small opening makes for awkward product accessibility.  Chanel BU requires a brush to apply and the bulky container is not suitable of travel. Chanel Destiny’s (61) texture, finish, color, longevity, packaging and lack of fragrance/parabens wins out in this cream product battle extravaganza.

Packaging Comparisons:  YSL #3, Chanel Destiny (61), and Chanel Bronze Universel/Ingredient list.

Chanel Destiny 61 Le Blush Creme de Chanel can be purchased at Lord & Taylor, Saks, Macys, Bloomingdales, NordstromChanel.com, etc.  Another one of my favorite beauty bloggers Cafemakeup reviewed and photographed the entire the collection here.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you if you are in the market for a fabulous creme blush then do pick-up Chanel Destiny 61 Le Blush Creme de Chanel or one of the other 5 colors available.  These blushes are rather expensive for the amount offered, however if all the pros mentioned outweigh the possible expense, then do not hesitate. Personally when I wore Destiny (61), I appeared to have been on vacation, lounging poolside at a Villa in Lake Como, Italy with none other than…….you guessed it………..Georgie C.   So worth it for me….Be well and stay safe.
