Diorskin Nude Cosmopolite Illuminating Face Powder review and swatches.

Dior Cosmopolite Illuminating Powder.

Before the start to every post, I usually recount the reason(s) that lead me to the item of interest.  Many times, the draw to a product is out of need or happy coincidence, however, when it came to Dior Diorskin Nude Cosmopolite Illuminating Face Powder ($45 USD/7g) my basic primal instinct of, I see-I like-I want, engulfed all my senses.  Sometimes, it is these sort of purchases that end up being the most treasured.  🙂  I hope you enjoy.

Dior Cosmopolite Illuminating Powder

Dior Cosmopolite Illuminating

The Pros to Diorskin Nude Cosmopolite Illuminating Face Powder:

  1. Beautiful light golden shade with peachy undertones.
  2. Unbelievably smooth texture glides on the skin with the greatest of ease.
  3. Lightweight formula can be applied dry or with a slightly dampened brush for more noticeable results.
  4. Optimal highlighting results when applied with a dense brush (ex. Tom Ford Cream Foundation Brush).
  5. Leaves a lovely soft focused effect when applied with a less dense brush (ex. RMK, Suqqu, Chikuhodo) over blush and bronzer.
  6. Lasts all day on my dry skin.
  7. Does not settle into pores or fine lines.
  8. Contains superfine shimmer that is sophisticated not showy.
  9. Can be worn by all skin tones–medium and darker complexions will especially love the effect in its dampened state.
  10. Can be used as a neutral brightening eyeshadow and inner corner highlight color.
  11. Slim dark navy compact contains a sizable mirror and a protective velour pouch.
  12. Contemporary Dior lettering design reminds me of the hanging charms on the Lady Dior handbag.
  13. Does not contain mineral oil, parabens or distinct fragrance.
  14. Made in France.

The Cons to Diorskin Nude Cosmopolite Illuminating Face Powder:

  1. For US customers, not available in-store, only sold on Dior.com.
  2. Limited-edition.  WHY?  🙁
  3. Accompanying brush is rather flimsy–quality is not befitting of the brand.

Dior Cosmopolite

Dior Cosmopolite Illuminating Powder swatch.

  • As you can tell by the first photo, the powder is rather concentrated and soft, but not too soft.  My finger swatch was obtained using light pressure without any powder displacement.
  • The second photo shows how light and airy the texture appears on the skin.  When used with a dry brush, the effect is almost reminiscent of Hourglass Ambient Powders.  Personally, I enjoy applying Cosmopolite over my entire check area (over highlighter, blush and bronzer) for a soft focus effect.
  • For more noticeable results, the powder does take on a more striking presence when used with a dampened brush.  I simply take some water (in a spray bottle) and lightly mist my brush and proceed to glide the brush over the powder in a single downward motion (do not swirl).  Using the same downward technique, I place the color on the tops of my cheeks.
  • This method creates a more concentrated texture, excellent adhesion to the skin, and outstanding longevity.

  • For the above photo, Cosmopolite was applied with a dampened brush to the tops of the cheeks.  The effect was rather remarkable for such an unassuming powder.
Dior Cosmopolite Illuminating Powder

Diorskin Nude Cosmopolite Illuminating Face Powder worn on the tops of the cheeks and then lightly dusted over my blush and bronzer.

  • For the above photo, Cosmopolite was applied in the same manner as the first photo, however, as a final step, I used a less dense brush (RMK blush brush) and applied the powder over the entire cheek area to diffuse and meld the highlighter, blush and bronzer.  Cosmopolite was also applied to the bridge of the nose and as an inner corner highlight.

Diorskin Nude Cosmopolite Illuminating Face Powder used as an eyeshadow all over the mobile lid.

  • As you can tell, Cosmopolite makes an absolutely darling eyeshadow.  The slight illuminating quality of the powder keeps this simple eye look from looking too flat and boring.  Oddly enough, the day I wore this look, I received so many compliments–go figure, sometimes less is truly the best.  🙂

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you this magnificent powder was worth every penny.  The soft texture, weightless feel, and versatility are nothing short of wonderful.  As a side note, if you are on the fence about ordering from Dior’s site, rest assure the customer service is top-notch.  My Diorskin Cosmopolite Illuminating Face Powder arrived at my door in one day.  So enough chitchat–will you be indulging in Cosmo before it ceases to exist? 🙂   Until next time, be well, stay safe and be happy.

Diorskin Star Sculpting & Brightening Concealer review, swatches and application.

Diorskin Star Concealer 003 Sable/Sand.

I have never been one to wear concealer on a daily basis.  The thought of applying another layer of makeup to an overly sensitive area, never appealed to me.  After all, the products I encountered have either been too heavy, or too light, too emollient, or too dry, I could never find the right product with the right consistency–that is, until now.  Diorskin Star Sculpting & Brightening Concealer ($36 USD/ 6ml) has changed my unenthusiastic outlook.  Ladies, this is the concealer that has been missing from my makeup life–this is the peanut to my butter, the milk to my shake, the salsa to my chip…you get the idea 🙂

Diorskin Star Sculpting & Brigthening 003 Sable/Sand.

Diorskin Star Sculpting & Brigthening 003 Sable/Sand.

The Pros to Diorskin Star Sculpting & Brightening Concealer 003 Sable/Sand:

  1. Extremely pigmented.
  2. Silky smooth consistency glides on the skin and blends out seamlessly.
  3. Very little amount is needed to achieve amazing coverage.
  4. Natural semi-matte finish (due to the titanium dioxide and silica) looks like second skin.
  5. Incredibly hydrating without any creasing.
  6. Can be blended with fingers or a synthetic brush.
  7. Unbelievable lasting power..seroiusly does not budge throughout the day.
  8. Adorable plastic packaging is compact and easily portable for travel.
  9. Five shades provided to accommodate a variety of skin tones.
  10. Compatible with my Guerlain Powder Foundation.
  11. Formulated without fragrance, mineral oil or parabens.
  12. Made in France.

The Cons to Diorskin Star Sculpting & Brightening Concealer 003 Sable/Sand:

  1. Blotchy results can occur if the conceler is left unblended for too long.
  2. Colors are a bit deceptive.  002 was originally the shade I wanted to get, but it turned out to be more of a highlighting shade.  003 swatched a bit on the dark side, but once applied to the eye area everything melded beautifully.  Try before you buy.
  3. Can be easily overdone if a heavy hand is used during application.  Take it one dot at a time.
  4. Can attach to dry spots if skin is not properly moisturized before hand.
  5. Formulated with silicones.

Highlighting the green veining around the bridge of the nose (right eye).

  • My purpose for purchasing this color was to conceal the green veining next to the bridge of my nose.  I know, the general consensus when it comes to concealers is to use one shade lighter than our foundation coloring, but that method was only adding to my sallowness.  Finding a color closest to my foundation actually concealed my problem area, rather than highlighting the issue.
Diorskin Star Sculpting & Brigthening Concealer 003 Sable/Sand

Applied Diorskin Star Sculpting & Brigthening Concealer 003 Sable/Sand unblended.

  • For the above photo, I dispensed a small amount of concealer to the back of my hand, and used my finger to apply a light coating directly over my veining issue.  This method ensures one does not accidentally deposit too much product, to the affect region all at once.  My issue is not that serious, but for those who have severe discoloration, applying light gradual layers will yield more natural and blended results.
Diorskin Star Sculpting & Brigthening Concealer 003 Sable/Sand

Diorskin Star Sculpting & Brigthening Concealer 003 Sable/Sand completely blended.

  • For the above photo, I blended out the concealer with my finger, but a synthetic brush (Sonia Kashuk Concealer Brush) works just as well for natural results.

Diorskin Star Sculpting & Brigthening Concealer 003 Sable/Sand with Guerlain Lingerie De Peau Nude Powder Foundation in 03 Beige Naturel.

  • For above photo, I added the lightest dusting of Guerlain Lingerie De Peau Nude Powder Foundation in 03 Beige Naturel to set and incorporate the color with the rest of my makeup.  Not bad, if I do say so myself.
Comparison Swatches: Sunday Riley Dry Touch Concealer 125W, Edward Bess Soft Beige Concealer, Diorskin Star Concealer, Estee Lauder Maximum Coverage Foundation 03 Creamy Vanilla.

Comparison Swatches:
Sunday Riley Dry Touch Concealer 125W, Edward Bess Soft Beige Concealer, Diorskin Star Concealer, Estee Lauder Maximum Coverage Foundation 03 Creamy Vanilla.

  • Sunday Riley Dry Touch Concealer was purchased with the same intent, but as you can see, this cream formula has a strong pink undertone that did not mesh well with my coloring.  In addition, the lasting power was not that impressive and the texture felt heavy.
  • Edward Bess Soft Beige Concealer was sold to me by the man himself (who I must say, is a true gentleman) to act as a highlighting shade.  Even though the lasting power is wonderful, sadly the color was too light for my purpose.  Furthermore, the texture is not as lightweight as Dior.
  • Diorskin Star Sculpting & Brightening Concealer 003 Sable/Sand seemed too dark, but when applied to the desired area, the color magically adjusted to my coloring.  If you can tell, the texture is also the lightest of the bunch and this formula adheres to the skin beautifully.
  • Estee Lauder Maximum Coverage Foundation 03 Creamy Vanilla is just as pigmented as Dior, but the texture is heavier and drier.  This was my go-to concealer on the rare occasion I actually wore concealer, but now Dior has dominated the playing field.

  • Diorskin Star Sculpting & Brigthening Concealer can be found at Nordstrom, Sephora, Bloomingdale, Saks, Dior.com, or any location that sells Dior Cosmetics.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Diorskin Star Sculpting & Brigthening Concealer 003 Sable/Sand is the best concealer I have ever used.  The hydrating formula, creamy texture, natural results and superb lasting power make this an all around winner.  This is the nut to my bolt, the cherry to my sundae, the milk to my shake…I could go on.  Try Diorskin Star Concealer and see for yourself and this may very well be, the best to your friend.  Yeah, I had one more in me 🙂  Be well, stay safe and be happy.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 995 Intrigue review and photos.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 995 Intrigue packaging.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 995 Intrigue packaging.

What do you do when your significant other asks you what you would like from the store?  My conservative altruistic-self could have answered, “Oh nothing honey, but thank you for thinking of me.”  But such pretenses would have been immediately interpreted as insincere, therefore, I allowed my true nature to take the reins and a list was instantly formed for my beloved to purchase.  Amongst the spoils of the day was Dior Addict Fluid Stick 995 Intrigue ($35 USD/ 5.5 ml).  This gorgeous full-bodied Cabernet color definitely arouses an air of intrigue when worn–I can already hear the whispers when walking the streets, “Who’s that Girl?”  🙂

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 995 Intrigue lipswatch.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 995 Intrigue freshly applied on bare lips.

Although gorgeous to look at, I found the pigment of this particular Fluid Stick to settle a bit unevenly and appear slightly patchy when applied heavily to bare lips. However, when approached with moderation and/or paired with other lipliners and lipsticks, the formula blended seamlessly.  As with all Dior Fluid Sticks, the applicator head performs brilliantly to distribute the color and outline the lips perfectly.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 995 Intrigue four and half hours later.

Typical of all Dior Addict Fluid Sticks, the formula is hydrating and smooth to the touch.  The longevity and staining effect of the darker shades are more pronounced than their lighter counterparts.  For the above photos, Intrigue was applied over a light coating of Girlactik Allure Matte Lip Paint, the lasting power of this combination was beyond impressive.  I was able to snap a photo by the 4½ hour mark, and as you can see, the color and shine were very much present even after copious amount of talking and laughter.

For those of you who are new to my blog, I use Girlactik Allure Matte Lip Paint (reviewed here) as my go-to lipliner/base for all of my lip combos.  This wonderous product keeps feathering at bay and lip color in place for the long haul.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 995 Intrigue over Estee Lauder Decadent Pure Color Envy Lipstick.

For the above look, Intrigue was placed over Estee Lauder Decadent Pure Color Envy Lipstick.  The wine tone of Intrigue complimented Decadent beautifully; giving this rich brown shade much-needed dimension and shine.  I decided to pair this sumptuous color with a very neutral eye, giving the lips the spotlight they deserved.

For the above photos, Dior Addict Fluid Stick 995 Intrigue also paired perfectly with Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope Lipstick in Black Tie.  The bright blue based red color was instantly transformed into a deeper red wine color.  This combo lasted comfortably for six hours without any of the color feathering into my fine lines.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick Swatches.

Dior Addict Fluid Sticks L_R:
995 Intrigue, 893 Trompe L’Oeil, and 975 Minuit.

  • #995 Intrigue does not apply as intensely as depicted in the tube (this swatch is three coats).  In fact on me, the wine color transforms more into a succulent cool based grape color.  This would be the ideal shade for those ladies that prefer cool tone plum reds.
  • #893 Trompe L’Oeil (reviewed here) is a much lighter version of Intrigue (this swatch is two coats).  In comparison, Trompe contains more red pigment and the texture is more even and dense.  Personally, I cannot wear any of these colors without a lipliner/base due to my feathering issues; however, if that is of no consequence to you, then this color applies seamlessly on its own.
  • #975 Minuit (reviewed here) continues to be my favorite color of the lot (this swatch is one coat).  This brown based red compliments my skin tone perfectly.  The color remains rather stable and does not appear patchy when worn on its own.

Dior Addict Fluid Sticks can be found at Sephora, Nordstrom, Saks, Macys, etc…

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Dior Addict Fluid Stick 995 Intrigue makes an excellent addition to my growing Fluid Stick family.  The deep rich wine color compliments all of my red lipsticks perfectly–just remember to approach this shade with caution.  Will you exude a ton if intrigue when wearing this shade?  Absolutely–at least that’s what I tell myself when I’m walking the dog 🙂  Someone has to look good for my Yoshi.  Special thanks to my husband for putting up with all of my obsessive makeup demands.  Be well, stay safe and be happy.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 869 Vie D'Enfer and 219 Whisper Beige.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 869 Vie D’Enfer and 219 Whisper Beige.

Whenever I get the urge to enter a Sephora (an urge that happens quite often) I am drawn to the Dior display like a mesmerized moth to a burning flame.  Dior Addict Fluid Stick 869 Vie D’Enfer and 219 Whisper Beige ($35 USD/ 5.5 ml/.18 fl. oz.) were the two colors that were invoking the faintest plea for me to find them a home (see how my mind works).  Being the benevolent soul that I am, I immediately answered the call and happily added them to my growing Dior Addict Fluid Stick collection 🙂

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 869 Vie D'Enfer and 219 Whisper Beige swatches.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 869 Vie D’Enfer and 219 Whisper Beige swatches.

As with Dior Addict Fluid Stick 893 Trompe L’Oeil and 975 Minuit (reviewed here and here), both 869 Vie D’Enfer and 219 Whisper Beige are smooth and hydrating.  Whenever I wear this formula, my lips never feel dried-out, even well after the color has faded.  Granted, when worn on their own the lasting power averages 2-3 hours at most. However, when paired with It Cosmetics Your Lips But Better Waterproof Lipliner (a new discovery), Dior Addict Fluid Sticks last up to five hours.  The two formulas seem to bind together immediately (unlike with other lipliners), resulting in a deeper color, denser consistency, and amazing longevity.  Personally, I love the overall effect, especially because this particular lipliner really keeps feathering at bay.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 869 Vie D'Enfer.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 869 Vie D’Enfer.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 869 Vie D’Enfer is a coral/red that adds a touch of brightness and warmth to most complexions.  My sister, who has a cool undertone and presently darker than I am, was able to rock this color despite her initial hesitation.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 219 Whisper Beige.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 219 Whisper Beige.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 219 Whisper Beige is a light beige color with a warm undertone.  My intent for this shade was to layer it over darker colors.  Predictable on its own, 219 Whisper Beige does not last long at all–2 hours tops.  However, when added to other long-lasting lipsticks or lipliners, this seemingly unimpressive shade works its magic and delivers shine, hydration, and the perfect amount a diffused loveliness to any look.  This shade also plays well with other Dior Addict Fluid Sticks.  I love the resulting hue when paired with 975 Minuit.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 219 Whisper Beige on top of Dior Addict Fluid Stick 975 Minuit.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 219 Whisper Beige on top of Dior Addict Fluid Stick 975 Minuit.

When paired with Estee Lauder 210 Impulsive (reviewed here), Dior Addict Fluid Stick 869 Vie D’Enfer added warmth to this very pale shade of pink.  The resulting hue is the perfect summer-time coral.  The addition of It Cosmetics Spicy Nude Lipliner extended the wear an impressive five and half hours (without eating) and completely eliminated the threat of bleeding lipstick.

When paired with It Cosmetics Spicy Nude Lipliner, 219 Whisper Beige takes on a deeper and more noticeable persona (on my skin tone at least).  This combo lasted five hours, with copious amounts of speaking and drinking water (with a straw).  Not bad!!

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 975 Minuit review and color swatches.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 975 Minuit.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick #975 Minuit.

Dior Addict Fluid Sticks ($35 USD/5.5 ml) are quickly becoming an obsession.  The smooth, vibrant, lightweight formula is so comfortable to wear, I truly believe I have become a Dior Addict 🙂  My recent procurement, 975 Minuit has proven to be just as alluring as 893 Trompe L’Oeil (reviewed here).  As soon as I tried on this color, the sale associate insisted I purchase it over any other color.  To my surprise, she also supplied me with four sample colors to try: 338 Mirage, 551 Aventure, 575 Wonderland, and 754 Pandore.  For your viewing pleasure, I present all of my Dior Addict Fluid Stick swatches thus far.  I hope you find this helpful.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 975 Minuit.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick #975 Minuit.

Everything that was stated about 893 Trompe L’Oeil applies to 975 Minuit.  The only difference being, 975 Minuit leaves behind a more noticeable stain when the color has worn-off.  Minuit is a deep red with slight brown undertones, it can be applied lightly or full-on for a more dramatic look.  The gel-like formula glides on the lips like butter.  The high shine and hydrating properties make Dior Fluid Sticks perfect companions for traditional lipstick formulas.  I love to pair Dior Fluid Sticks with Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipsticks (reviewed here) to give my lips a more plump and vibrant appearance.  This coupling lasted beautifully for 5 hours without feeling dry or feathering into my fine lines.

As expected, the delicate staining effect is quite evident with the darker colors.  338 Mirage did not last long at all–as seen by the lack of pigment left behind after one swipe with a makeup wipe.  Minuit and Pandore wore the best out of the lot and the pink stain that remained was quite flattering.

According to the lovely sale associate at my Macy’s counter, Dior comprised this packet based on the assumption these four colors will be their biggest sellers.  I cannot fully agree with that assumption…I adore the darker shades, although 219 Whisper Beige (not in the sample packet) would make a great topper shade for darker lip colors.  I tried it on combined with Minuit and the resulting shade was beautiful.

Dior Addict Fluid Sticks are now available at Sephora, Nordstrom, Dior.com, Macys, etc…

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you if you have not tried Dior Addict Fluid Sticks, you need to rectify that oversight immediately.  I really cannot stress how lovely these lipstick hybrids apply, wear and feel.  The vast selection of color choices also makes it easy for anyone to find a suitable color to their liking.  I found three and counting 🙂 Which colors do you fancy?  Be well and stay safe.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 893 Trompe L’Oeil review and photos.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 893 Trompe L'Oeil.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 893 Trompe L’Oeil.

When it comes to lipsticks, very few items hold my attention.  My beloved Shiseido Lacquer Rouge liquid lipsticks set a very high standard.  Liquid lipsticks have been done from here to there to everywhere. However, leave it to Dior to create a new “hybrid” type of liquid lip product that promises high impact shine, longevity, weightless feel and outstanding application and wear.  Today for your consideration I present, Dior Addict Fluid Stick 893 Trompe L’Oeil  ($35 USD/5.5 ml).  According to Dior:

Flawless application in a single sweep: the high-impact colour and long wear of a lipstick, combined with the shine of a gloss, all in a thin veil that delivers a weightless feel. Colour and shine come together for maximum impact with intense lip stain pigments directly encapsulated in spheres of gloss for long-wearing results. Dior Addict Fluid Stick is formulated with water, not wax, for a light feeling on the lips, an immediate fresh effect and addictive sensation.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 893 Trompe L'Oeil

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 893 Trompe L’Oeil.

The Pros of Dior Addict Fluid Stick 893 Trompe L’Oeil:

  1. Amazing vibrant violet/pink color–great for those who tend to shy away from reds.
  2. Cooling sensation upon application.
  3. Lightweight feel that adheres smoothly to the lips.
  4. Phenomenal coverage with one swipe.
  5. Definite high shine remains for a couple of hours.
  6. Light stain is left behind after the color fades.
  7. Non-drying gel-like formula keeps lips hydrated even after color wears-off.
  8. Color wears-off evenly throughout the day.
  9. Slight cool blue undertone makes teeth appear whiter.
  10. Very faint fragrance..almost pleasant..this is coming from someone who loathes fragrance in lip products.
  11. Does not bleed into fine lines, without a lipliner…if worn in moderation.
  12. Can be worn with a well blended lipliner to give the color more depth and dimension.
  13. Can be layered over a “regular” lipstick for a glossy pout.
  14. Easily removable for application of a fresh layer.
  15. Adorable packaging..the inner tube is shaped like a tube of lipstick…very clever.
  16. Formulated without parabens or mineral oil..however, BHT is an ingredient.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 893 Trompe L’Oeil

The Cons to Dior Addict Fluid Stick 893 Trompe L’Oeil:

  1. Does not adhere well to unblended/harsh lipliners–just sits on top of the liner.
  2. Water-based formula does not yield super long-lasting wear.  I am able to get full color coverage for 3 hours.
  3. Will transfer onto a variety of surfaces…no afternoon smooching 🙂
  4. Being that this is a gloss/lipstick hybrid, hair will get stuck in the lip color should a hearty gust of wind make your acquaintance 🙂
  5. Slight tacky feel, similar to a gloss…I happen to like the feeling, some may not.
  6. If applied in excess, feathering will occur and product will collect at the corners of the mouth.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 893 Trompe L’Oeil with Estee Lauder Currant Lipliner.

As you can see in the above photos, Estee Lauder Currant Lipliner was heavily applied to the perimeter of the lips and purposely not blended.  Due to the unique nature of this formula, Dior Fluid Sticks do not merge with lipliners as well as “regular” lipsticks.  For the above photos, I had to really press and rub my lips together to thoroughly blend the liner with the Fluid Stick.  Even then, the harsh lipliner line was still visible “through” the lipstick.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 893 Trompe L’Oeil with MAC Trust-in-Red Pro Longwear Lip Pencil.

For the above photos, I applied a light and even layer of MAC Trust-in-Red Pro Longwear Lipliner prior to the application of Dior Addict Fluid Stick 893 Trompe L’Oeil.  As you can see, because the lipliner was applied smoothly and evenly, 893 Trompe L’Oeil clung to the liner seamlessly.  Remember, Dior Fluid Sticks are formulated to hug the lips, presumably, an uneven lipliner/lipstick would interfere with the formula’s binding properties.

When paired with a thin layer of Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy in 210 Impulsive (reviewed here), the resulting hue did not feather into my fine lines and lasted for 4 hours.  This lip combo was such an attractive and comfortable coupling–I’m Smitten!

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Dior has hit a home run with these Fluid Sticks.  I am officially obsessed with the colors and formulation.  I have never been able to wear a gloss of any type with this much success.  These may very well replace my beloved Shiseido Lacquer Rouge (reviewed here), as my favorite lipstick formulation.  Do you need these babies?  OH YES!!  I talked about my love for 893 Trompe L’Oeil so much, my husband purchased Dior Addict Fluid Stick 975 Minuit as part of my Easter Basket surprise.  Gotta love it when your partner “gets” what makes you happy.  Be well and stay safe.

Diorshow Fusion Mono Millenium #381.

Diorshow Fusion Mono Eyeshadow in Millenium #381.

Armed with a gift card in hand (thanks Sis), I decided to go to Sephora and seek some makeup inspiration. Diorshow Fusion Mono Eyeshadow in Millenium #381 ($30 US/6.5g) was one of the many items I have been wanting to try for the longest time.  I mean it’s Dior, it’s as smooth as silk, it has multidimensional micro shimmers, and it’s pewter….need I say more?

Diorshow Fusion Mono Millenium #381.

Diorshow Fusion Mono Eyeshadow in Millenium #381.

The Pros of Dior Fusion Mono Eyeshadow in Millenium #381:

  1. Incredibly smooth texture and consistency.
  2. The micro shimmers are so finely milled, they blend seamlessly within the formula.
  3. The mousse-gel formulation is easily applied with fingers.
  4. Cute foam tip applicator included; useful for inner corner work.
  5. Can be used dry or wet.
  6. When paired with Nars Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Primer, Millenium (this is the spelling according to Dior) lasted all day without any creasing or fading.
  7. When used wet, the color is intensified and adheres beautifully to the skin.
  8. Truly does have a weightless feel.
  9. Office appropriate if applied lightly.
  10. Gives dimensional results using only one eyeshadow.
  11. The amount/price ratio is outstanding for this brand and formulation.  Dior eyeshadow reminds me of Chanel Illusion D’Ombre (reviewed here) formula, but with better lasting power, more product and at a lower price.
  12. Contains no petrolatum (which contributes to moderate lasting power) or parabens.
  13. Out of the twelve colors offered, four are matte.

The Cons to Dior Fusion Mono Eyeshadow in Millenium #381:

  1. The shimmers have such an airy feel, fallout will occur throughout the day when used dry.
  2. Millenium looks very unassuming in daylight; however, sunlight and artificial lighting seems to bring out the shimmers in full force.
  3. Not office appropriate if applied wet.
  4. On me, Millenium appeared more teal green rather than the pewter/bronze hue I was anticipating.
  5. These types of eyeshadows need to be stored upside down, in their boxes to maintain their consistency.
  6. Using a brush will surely result in a patchy application and minimal color build-up.  Fingers are best used.

Comparison Swatches:
Dior 381 Millenium Dry Swatch, Dior 381 Millenium Wet Swatch, MAC Fluidline Little Black Bow, Giorgio Armant Eyes To Kill #6.

  • Dior Millenium #381 really comes alive when used wet.  Just pat the color with your dampened ring finger across the mobile lid for a no-brainer look and application.
  • MAC Fluidline in Little Black Bow (seen here) is almost identical on the skin to Millenium.  LBB has a darker base color, but does not feel as weightless on the lids as Millenium.
  • Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill #6 was what I originally thought Millenium would resemble.  As you can see, Millenium is much cooler in tone, has more shimmer and is not as pigmented.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Dior Fusion Mono Eyeshadow in Millenium #381 is a beautiful shimmery pot of loveliness.  Despite its beauty, I would not recommend Millenium to those who are not overly fond of shimmer.  On the bright side, Dior has formulated four matte shade to accommodate a more conservative clientele.  See everyone is happy!  Will you be trying any of these eyeshadows?  Be well and stay safe.

Dior Minuit Diorific Vernis Nail Polish is truly a midnight passion!

Dior Minuit Diorific Vernis Nail Polish.

Dior Minuit Diorific Vernis Nail Polish.

Are you looking for a unique nail color for the holiday season?  Well look no further than Dior Minuit Diorific Vernis Nail Polish ($26 US/ .4 fl. oz.) part of the Dior Golden Winter Collection Holiday 2013.  In French “Minuit” means midnight and this beautiful plum color with gold, copper and red micro-shimmers strikes me as a representation of the all the lights, life and energy Paris offers at the stroke of midnight.  So enamored was I with the packaging, I felt an urge to encase Minuit in acrylic and place this beauty on a pedestal to preserve it’s brilliance (crazy?..a little).  The combination of the gold colored top, round glass vessel and the sparkling plum color, is simply stunning.  I own Diva Vernis (from last year’s Holiday 2012 Collection) and the effect is not the same.  There is something about Minuit that looks and feels luxe.  According to Dior,

Diorific Vernis is available in three new shades, Minuit (plum), Marilyn (red) and Frimas (pink taupe), which enhance the nails with deep, sparkling, ultra-couture shades.

Minuit would look spectacular on a variety of skin tones, nail widths and lengths.  The color itself is a bit of a chameleon in different lighting conditions.  In natural sunlight, Minuit’s strong dark plum base color and it’s beautiful combination of shimmers becomes quite evident.  In flash photography, Minuit’s red shimmers dominate and the color morphs into a more burgundy-red hue.  Regardless of conditions, the shimmers are very noticeable, giving the polish a beautiful sparkle and depth.

Dior Minuit Diorific Vernis nail polish lasted on me a full 5 days without chipping, but I did experience some tip wear.  This will vary according to one’s activities.  My daily activities, if you’re interested, consist of picking up legos, laundry, cooking, cleaning and dog care.  If you do not do any of these tedious chores, then you are a lucky duck and your manicure will last longer.  The point is, Minuit lasted well on the nails despite the hardships of my day.

Dior Minuit Diorific Vernis Nail Polish brush.

The formula has a medium consistency that settles smoothly on the nails.  Opacity was reached using two coats.  The brush in the Diorific Vernis line is wide enough to accommodate a variety of nail widths and lengths (unlike the regular Dior polishes).  Another great feature about these polishes is they are classified as 5-free.  According to Sephora:

Dior Nail Lacquers are five-free and do not contain dibutyl phthalate, toluene, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, or camphor.

Removal was a breeze with my trusty Zoya Nail Polish Remover (removes all polishes easily).   I love this color so much, I am planning on getting another bottle to give as a gift.  Frimas Diorific Vernis (from the same collection) is such a tempting color, but I am certain it will not mesh well with my olive skin tone. However, it looked fabulous on Sabrina from thebeautylookbook.com (here).  I wish I could pull-off some of the colors she wears on her nails.

Dior Minuit Diorific Vernis is sold at Nordstrom, Macys, Bloomingdales, Lord & Taylor, and Sephora (currently sold-out online).

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you to run and get Dior Minuit Diorific Vernis Nail Polish.  This polish is one of those holiday items you will regret not buying, if it sells out.  Go and experience this midnight beauty for yourself. You may not encounter all the sights, sounds and colors that Paris offers at midnight, but at least your nails will look spectacular!  Oui?  Be well and stay safe.

In lieu of my Makeup of the Week I decided to update you all on my Current Makeup Favorites.  I hope you find this helpful and informative. **click on each item for a direct link to the product.

Base Makeup:

  1. Dr. Mercola Facial Sunscreen SPF 30:   The absolute best natural sunscreen.  I do not wear commercial sunscreen because I cannot tolerate the odor and the plethora of chemicals in the formula.  However, Dr. Mercola’s all natural line of sun protection products cannot be beat.  This is especially ideal for those with sensitive skin.
  2. Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer:  I really appreciate this primer in the summer.  It evens out your skintone and really does prolong the wear of your foundation.
  3. Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation:  Foundations come and go but EL Double Wear is my HG foundation.  This guy never lets me down, the longevity and finish cannot compare.  Apply EL Double Wear on well moisturized skin, with a damp brush/sponge and blend to perfection.  I love all of their  foundations.
  4. Edward Bess Concealer:  As of late, I had to revert back to wearing concealer and EB is one of my favorites.  I had the pleasure of meeting Edward at Bergdorf and he was just as lovely as he appears on TV; a true Southern Gentleman!

Eye Makeup:

  1. Laura Mercier Eye Canvas:  Great base for eyeshadows (reviewed here).
  2. MAC Mineralized Skinfinish Natural in Medium Plus:  I use this as an all over eyeshadow to even out my skin tone on my lids.  On occasion, I do use this on my face to set my face makeup.
  3. MAC Powerchrome Eye Pencils: Copper Strip (reviewed here) and Life’s Luxury (reviewed here).
  4. Prestige Total Intensity Eyeshadow in Wicked: (reviewed here).
  5. Clinique True Black cream eyeliner:  Wonderfully black, smooth, long lasting and relatively inexpensive for a high end brand.
  6. Inglot #89 Matte AMC Eyeliner Gel:  The only color/formula that will last on my upper waterline for tight lining purposes.
  7. L’Oreal Telescpic Mascara and Prestige My Blackest Lash Mascara:  The L’Oreal is for lengthening and Prestige is for giving volume.  Both can be found in any drugstore.
  8. Shu Uemura Eyebrow pencil in Seal Brown 02:  A naturally flattering color for my dark brows.

Face Makeup:

  1. Laura Mercier Ritual Bronzer Blush:  One of the best bronzer to have come out this year.  It was limited edition and is sold out online.  Check your local Sephora locations and LM counters for availability (reviewed here).
  2. Laura Mercier Highlight 01:  Beautiful neutral colored highlighter that can be used wet or dry (reviewed here).
  3. Bobbi Brown Pale Pink blush:  This color is universally flattering on everyone.  It is matte and extremely long lasting.  BB has one of the best blush formulas around.
  4. MAC Sweet As Cocoa:  Rosey Bronze blush can also be used to deepen a matte bronzer, as an eyeshadow, and a blend out color (reviewed here).
  5. Skindinavia Finishing Spray:  Admittedly, I do not use many finishing powders in the summer time.  I do use this spray to prolong the wear of my bronzer and blush and to help meld all the colors together on my face.

Lip Makeup:

  1. Daliia Lip Stain in Runway Fashion Fuchsia:  Love the naturalness, longevity, color, and wear of this lip stain.  I may have to pick up another one (reviewed here).  My Best Friend’s Red lip stain is next on the list.
  2. Dior Addict Lipstick:  These are wonderfully creamy and smooth.  They will not dry out your lips and last nicely paired with a long lasting lipliner  (reviewed here).
  3. Shiseido Rouge Lacquer Liquid Lipsticks:  The best liquid lipstick I have found, they do not contain any fragance or flavoring, long lasting, wears off evenly and pairs beautifully with Daliia’s lips stain; will not cause it to break down or bleed into your fine lines.

Makeup Bag:

  1. Tory Burch Makeup Bag:   A wonderful addition to my makeup family.  This bag is roomy enough to fit all of your essentials and more.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you to invest in products you know you will use and love.  Do not be a moth to the makeup flame, stick to what works.  Now, if only I would take my own advise 🙂   To be continued….with current brush favorites.  Be well and stay safe.

Dior Addict 525 Vintage and 621 Granville
review and swatches.

Dior Addict lipstick #525 Vintage and #621 Granville.

Dior Addict 525 Vintage and 621 Granville.

Opps, I did it again!  Yes ladies, my love/obsession with Dior Addicts has taken off.  As a reward to myself for surviving another academic year, I have lovingly gifted myself Dior Addict Lipstick 525 Vintage and 621 Granville ($31 US/ 3.5 g).  These puppies are everything Dior Addict 773 Rouge Podium (reviewed here) was and more.

The Formula/Color:

Dior Addict 525 Vintage is a beautiful glossy, mauve tone pink and 621 Granville is a more vibrant pinky/rose shade.  I have a light olive skin tone and finding a pink to suit my coloring is a challenge.  Due to the slight brown undertone present in both colors, these fit my “pink” longings beautifully!  For those of you who are fair-skinned and love natural colors (without any fuss or muss) you will love these shades as well.  Vintage and Granville are so naturally flattering, you can actually apply them without a mirror and instantly look polished.  As with all the lipsticks in the Dior Addict line, 525 Vintage and 621 Granville are moisturizing, semi-long lasting (darker colors last longer), and wear off evenly.

The Pros:

Both colors are absolutely stellar on their own, but their true radiance comes out when they are layered over a lip pencil and/or lipstick.  Not only does this method give Vintage and Granville more dimension, it also extends the wear of these lipsticks.  If layered on top of a lipstick, Dior Addicts will not cause your underlining color to bleed out into your fine lines around your lips.  Dior Addicts are designed to meld superbly with other lipstick/lipliners.  If you have read my past posts, you know I appall fragrance and flavoring in my lipsticks.  Vintage and Granville thankfully comply with my desires.  These non-shimmery lipsticks provide the shine of a gloss, without the goopy texture and wear of one.  As an additional bonus, Dior Addicts also make your lips look plump and luscious.   I ♥ Dior Addicts!

Dior Addict 525 Vintage, Dior lipliner 713 Mythical Brown, Dior Addict 621 Granville.

The Cons:

In all honesty, can I come up with any?  Well, if I must.  For starters, the price is rather hefty, but not as unreasonable as Tom Ford lipsticks.  If price deters you, then only splurge on one and whittle it down to the bare minimum, before you invest in another color.  Of course, I do not have that sort of restrain, I must possess and possess I shall.  Be warned:  Some colors in the Dior Addict line contain HIGH levels of shimmers that linger behind when the lipstick wears off or is removed.  It is best to see the colors in person rather than purchasing blindly online.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you if you seek moisture, shine, and a little “plumping” then Dior Addict 525 Vintage and 621 Granville lipsticks fit that bill wonderfully.  Let’s face it, I’m not a spring chicken anymore, more like a seasoned hen 🙂  I need all the help I can get.  Remember, if life has you feeling down, buy yourself a lipstick or maybe two…I did 🙂  Like Mae West always said,

“Too much of a good thing can be wonderful!”

Be well and stay safe.

NOTW: OPI Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees.

OPI Suzy Skis in the Pyrenees.

OPI Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees.

There are some things I will not do for the sake of self-preservation.  I will not drink, smoke, go bungee jumping, ride a motorcycle, go camping, swim in deep waters (or any water…I cannot swim), wear a bathing suit (shield your eyes), or ski.  OPI Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees ($8 US/.5 fl. oz.) is as adventurous I as will get!

The Color:

The color of this beauty is a bit difficult to capture.  There are very fine shimmers scattered throughout this seemingly cream formula.  I tried to photographed Suzi against various backgrounds to showcase this deep navy/gray concoction.  Oh, what dedication.

OPI Suzy Skis in the Pyrenees against a white background.

OPI Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees against a white background.

Suzi lasted on my nails 5 days before any chips began to surface.  As always, wear time depends on one’s activities.  OPI Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees is also a 95% duplicate color for Dior Blue Label nail lacquer and the limited edition Nars Galion.  Blue Label has a touch more blue in its formula, Nars Galion is deeper and does not have the super fine shimmers that are present in Suzi.  I owned and returned Blue Label because the brush, IMHO, is a poor design.  I found it nearly impossible to achieve a flawless manicure. Admittedly, Dior’s formula is better than OPI’s, but I could not justify owning a $24 nail polish when Suzi was so similar.  I put that money toward a Tom Ford Blush brush 🙂

The Formula/Pros:

This is one of my favorite nail polishes.  However, Suzi has a very thin consistency, the first coat is very streaky, you may question whether this polish will retain its texture.  Suzi does correct herself, with the addition of a second coat; she becomes cohesive and opaque right before your very eyes.  After two coats, the results are smooth, dark and refined.  All trickery is rectified 🙂  The brush is lovely and well suited on a variety of nail widths and lengths.

OPI Suzy Skis in the Pyrenees.

OPI Suzy Skis in the Pyrenees.

The Cons:

OPI Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees does resemble a black polish from afar.  It’s complexity is revealed only from a close proximity. In store, availability is an issue.  You can easily acquire Suzi online from various websites.  My local Ulta had it for the longest time and now Suzi seems to have encountered a dry spell.  Regardless, the following online shops are stocked at the time of this post:  Amazon.com, Ebay.com, Drugstore.com, SalonSavings.com and Overstock.com.  OPI is sold, in stores, at Ulta, Harmon, some Bed, Bath & Beyond locations, and some CVS locations.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you if you missed out on Nars Galion or are unwilling to spend the money on Dior Blue Label, give OPI Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees a whirl.  In the spirit of integrity, Suzi is not very appealing on the first coat, but the second coat does lay all doubts to rest.  I don’t know about Suzi, but rest assured, I will not be braving the cold in the Pyrenees mountains.  I much rather sail along to neighboring France, stop off at a cafe, and wrap my perfectly dark manicured fingers around a buttery croissant.  Yeah I said it, I ‘m a “City Gal” all the way.  Be well and stay safe.

Dior Addict 773 Rouge Podium swatches and review.

Dior Addict 773 Rouge Podium.

Dior Addict 773 Rouge Podium.

After my disappointment with Giorgio Armani Flash Lacquer (reviewed here), I felt a void in my soul.  I began a search for a gloss in lipstick form that would give my lips a little shine, moisture and color.  Like Prince Charming on his white horse, Dior Addict 773 Rouge Podium lipstick ($31 US/3.5 g) has come to my rescue!   Can it be, has Dior finally heard my pleas?  Oh yes ladies…this is a beautiful product indeed.

The Formula/Color:

The formula is heavenly!!  Dior Addict 773 Rouge Podium lipstick glides on the lips like butter, without the added fat or cholesterol.  These lipsticks coat and saturate the lips with sensuous moisture..leaving you wanting more.  Oh my!!!  Dior Addict  773 is a stunning berry red shade. This shade will certainly suit warm and cool skin tones alike.  Depending on the lipliner used, one can deepen or lighten this color.  These lipsticks are intended to be very glossy, moisturizing and pigmented at the same time.  Sounds unlikely, I assure you it is not!  According to Dior:

With 25% less wax than a classic lipstick, this formula  contains an extraordinary reflecting gel. The result is modern transparency, intense plumping hydration and a magnifying glass effect to intensify shine, plump the lips and above all, enhance color.

Dior Addict lipstick 773 lip swatch freshly applied.

Dior Addict lipstick 773 lip swatch on top of Makeup Forever 9C lipliner…freshly applied.

The Pros:

I wore 773 Rouge Podium lipstick on top of Makeup Forever 9C Waterproof Lip Liner and the color and wear were top-notch.  I sported this delectable shade for five hours in absolute comfort without any feathering or dryness in sight!!  Did the color fade?  Yes it did, but very evenly and without leaving the dreaded ring around the lips or bleeding into my fine lines.  Additionally, there is no flavoring or fragrance to the Dior Addict line.  I ♥ U Dior!

A lipliner is a must for me in general, however, I would highly recommend you use one with these formulas.  These lipsticks seem to be formulated to bond easily with other lipsticks/lipliners.  Having said that, if a second coat of lipstick is needed, I would advise to remove the old layer and start a new.  Bear in mind, Dior Addicts are a creamier formula and are still prone to migration, if not treated properly.  Did I mention the packaging?   The silver and clear plastic tube is not only cute but easily visible amongst a sea of black items in one’s bag.

Dior Addict 773 Rouge Podium lipstick swatch.

The Cons:

Some colors in the Dior Addict line contain high amounts of shimmers.  I bought 714 New York, and quickly became annoyed with the plethora of shimmers in the lipstick.  According to the Dior counter manager at Nordstrom, the entire Addict line contains different degrees of shimmer within the product, be extra vigilant when selecting your shade.  I am currently eyeing #621 Granville, a non-shimmery rosy brown stunner!

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you to consider Dior Addict 773 Rouge Podium lipstick if you are looking for a flattering, succulent, and alluring red.  The level of moisture and longevity of these lipsticks rival Tom Ford’s lipsticks.  Dior Addict 773 applies beautifully on top of any lipstick or any long wearing lipliner.  This particular color is so appealing, even Snow White’s ruby-red lips cannot compare.  Charming will be so enthralled, he will forget all about a dead corpse and move on to one hot mama…..ME!!  Be well and stay safe.
