Fall Makeup Look.

Fall Makeup Look

Fall Makeup Look

I’m not one to favor certain looks for a particular season, but there is no denying when sweaters, coats and gloves come out to play, darker makeup looks are sure to follow.  While going through my fall/winter clothes, I decided to also rummage through my makeup collection and awaken some beloved products out of hibernation.  The final look was deep and sultry, yet unbelievably simple to achieve.  I hope you enjoy my Fall Makeup Look.

Fall Makeup Look–Eyes:

Fall Makeup Look

  1. Start by applying the finest amount of NYX Proof-it Eyeshadow Primer all over the mobile lid (reviewed here).
  2. While the primer settles, fill in brows with Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow Maestro in 2 Wenge Wood.
  3. Using a synthetic brush (Sonia Kashuk) or fingers, apply Givenchy 7 Gris Organza Cream Eyeshadow (reviewed here) on the mobile lid in thin even layers.
  4. Taking any tapered eyeshadow brush (MAC 217, or Rae Morris #8 Brush), apply a warm brown color (MAC Uninterrupted) to outline and define the crease and lower lash line.
  5. Apply a flesh-colored eyeshadow (MUFE M-510) to blend out the crease color and highlight the brow bone area.
  6. Add a complimentary cooler highlight shade (Estee Lauder Crystal Baby) to the inner corners of the eye.
  7. Line the upper waterline with a water-resistant gel liner like Inglot AMC #90.
  8. Line the upper lash line with a black liquid liner such as, Guerlain Black Liquid Eyeliner.  Lately, I have been using my angled brush to apply my liquid liner for more precise results.
  9. Add your favorite mascara (Maybelline Lash Sensational) to finish off the look (reviewed here).

Cover Fx Custom Drops

Cover Fx Custom Drops:
It took three wipes to clean off the accumulated liquid at the opening of the bottle.

  1. Apply your favorite moisturizer and let it settle on the skin while doing your eye makeup.  Josie Maran Whipped Body Butter is my daytime facial moisturizer (small amount) and Waxelene is wonderful as an evening moisturizer (Olivia from the Unknown Beauty Blog’s review here).
  2. Mix your primer and foundation together and apply thin well blended layers on the skin.  In my experience, Mally Perfect Prep Poreless Primer is the best medium for Cover FX Custom Drops (reviewed here).  This combination leaves skin looking smooth and even.  As mentioned in previous posts, the issue with theses drops is the packaging.  My newer bottle seems to have also fallen victim to the horrible packaging (see photo above).  It maybe time to search for an alternative–suggestions welcomed.
  3. Apply Diorskin Star 003 Concealer (reviewed here) to problem areas.  I use concealer to cover green veining around the bridge of the nose.  I’m not a believer in the “triangle of light” theory, “clown contouring” or using too much concealer in general–less is best.
  4. Apply a light dusting of Dior Cosmopolite to the tops of the cheek bones and center of the nose.
  5. Apply Shiseido Oil-Free Bronzer gradually to the hallows of the cheeks, forehead, jaw line and neck.
  6. Using an soft brush, apply a warm peach colored blush such as, Vincent Longo Sandalwood, to the apples of the cheek and blend slightly onto the bronzer.

Fall Makeup Look–Lips:

Girlactik and Chanel

Fall Makeup Look:
Girlactik Demure Lip Paint topped with Chanel Audace Rouge Allure Gloss.

  1. Girlactik Demure Matte Lip Paint was used as my neutral lip color.  I swear Girlactik’s formula pairs well with every lipgloss and lipstick in my collection.
  2. Chanel Audace Rouge Allure Gloss is almost identical in color to Demure.  This combo lasted 6 hours and the base color lingered well passed the 7th hour.

THE VERDICT:  If Makeup Could Talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you not only is this look perfect for the fall, but it can be worn anytime of the year.  The delicate silver shimmers contained in the gray shadow provide just the right amount of vitality to the look.  Adding a warm peachy blush and mauve neutral lip color, help balance out the cool tone of the overall look.  As always, substitute any product shown, as you see fit, and have fun with your creation.  Until next time, be well, stay safe and be happy.

Cle De Peau Beaute 13 Sand Beige Luminizing Face Enhancer Gets it Right.

Cle de Peau Beaute

Cle de Peau Beaute 13 Sand Beige Luminizing Face Enhancer.

Once upon a time, many years ago, I was but a hopeless young woman seeking her first foundation. Naturally, I sought the help of a lovely MUA that graciously directed my attention (and business) to the Cle de Peau Beaute counter.  All the wonderfully packaged cosmetics mesmerized my senses and I shamelessly (aka: superficially) fell-in-love.  Fast forward to the present day, my naive nature has drastically diminished, but the charms of Cle de Peau Beaute 13 Sand Beige Luminizing Face Enhancer ($55 USD/10g) immediately captured my heart, bringing back all those wicked temptations…this prismatic enchantress had me at…HELLO 🙂

Cle de Peau 13 Sand Beige

Cle de Peau Beaute 13 Sand Beige Luminizing Face Enhancer.

The spectacular four-color design is what sets this highlighter apart from others on the market.  A color blend of bronze, tan, beige and peach meld beautifully together to create a warm complex subtle golden shade.  This particular color definitely suits warmer skins more so than it’s paler/pinker sister, 14 Delicate Pink (reviewed here).  The sophisticated peach pearl really does impart a smooth radiance, which dare I say, looks quite natural.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

My preferred method of application involves using a slightly dampened dense brush (Tom Ford Cream Foundation Brush) and sweeping the brush in a downward motion (not swirling), making sure to pickup all the colors in the pan.  I lightly tap off any excess (which should be minimal) and then gently apply the color to the tops of my cheeks using the same downward motions on the targeted areas.  The dampened conditions keep the soft powder from kicking up, intensifying the color and increasing the longevity (lasts all day).

Foundation, Cle de Peau Beaute 13 Sand Beige, and eyeshadows housed in my MAC Palette with Tom Ford Cream Foundation Brush.

The amount given is quite substantial; the pan itself is rather long and deep, making this one time purchase a lifelong investment.  As you may recall, Cle de Peau does sell an accompanying plastic compact for an additional $45.  This time around, I opted to purchase the refill option (fool me once people) and place my golden goddess in my MAC palette, which incidentally, costs only $8 and houses my powder foundations, highlighter and eyeshadows.

Cle de Peau Beaute 13 Sand Beige

Cle de Peau Beaute 13 Sand Beige Luminizing Face Enhancer ingredient list.

The ingredients of this gem are mostly artificial.  The addition of Argan Oil and Mortierella Oil are nice touches, but the overall components are made from your garden variety of silicones, some unpronounceable substances and mineral oil (5th ingredient which I suspect is responsible for the smooth application and feel).  This formula is manufactured in Japan and thankfully, paraben-free.

Cle de Peau Beaute 13 Sand Beige

Cle de Peau Beaute 13 Sand Beige Luminizing Face Enhancer worn on the tops of the cheeks and bridge of the nose.

As you can tell from the above photo, the overall effect is unbelievably smooth.  The texture of Sand Beige is perfect for those individuals who work in a professional environment and require a subtle finish, for those who prefer a contained pearl finish rather than shimmer/glitter, and for those who demand beautiful presentation to match cost.

**Cle de Peau Beaute is sold in the States at Saks, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys, and online at cledepeaubeaute.com.**

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Cle de Peau Beaute 13 Sand Beige Luminizing Face Enhancer is a wonderful highlighter that performs as promised.  The smooth formula, subtle warm golden shade, sophisticated finish and substantial amount has restored my interest in this brand.  This goes beyond pretty, and borders on necessary…at least for me at the present moment. 🙂  Will this stop me from investing in other brands?  Come now–as we speak, Kjear Weis Radiance Highlighter is on its merry way to my home–a lemming I totally blame on Maeve from Lilting-grace.blogspot.com (she did a fabulous review on KW cream blush here).  Until next time, be well, stay safe and be happy.

Best of Beauty 2014.

Best of Beauty 2014 products in action.

Best of Beauty 2014 products in action.

This past year has proven to be quite an extraordinary time for cosmetics.  Velvety smooth matte lipsticks, hybrid gloss/stain lip products, rich eyeshadow textures and colors, and amazing cream shadows and liners seem to have dominated the industry.  We can only hope 2015 will bring us even more phenomenal creations.  Without further ado, I present my personal highlights from this past year.  I hope you enjoy!

Best of Beauty 2014 Eyes:

Best of Beauty 2014 Face:

  •  Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Body Butter is my facial moisturizer during the winter months.  My overly dry skin soaks up this rich cream like a sponge, leaving a feeling of complete hydration for the entirety of the day.
  • Guerlain Lingerie De Peau Nude Powder Foundation is the belle of the ball.  This powder foundation is smooth, hydrating, convenient, and long-lasting.  I cannot think of the last time a foundation has impressed me as much.
  • Dior Star Concealer is hands down the best concealer I have ever used.  The creamy formula glides on the skin and stays in place beautifully throughout the day.

Best of Beauty 2014 Cheeks:

Best of Beauty 2014 Lips:

  • Girlactik Allure Matte Lip Paint is technically a liquid lipstick, but I use this mainly in place of a lipliner. The smooth non-drying, long-lasting formula makes lips impervious to feathering.  So smitten was I with this formula, the color Demure (review coming soon) became the newest addition to my makeup family.
  • Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope Lipsticks have been praise to no end on this blog.  I cannot think of another matte lipstick that can even match the texture and silky smooth feel of this line.
  • YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats are wonderful matte lipstick formulations.  These babies adhere to the lips instantly and leave the most potent stain behind.
  • Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipsticks came with a promise of hydration, longevity and comfortable wear.  The subtle sheen finish was designed to make lips appear more plump.  Judging by the four tubes in my possession, it is safe to say, I’m sold!
  • Dior Addict Fluid Sticks have been such a wonderful investment.  The lightweight texture and cooling sensation instantly awakens any look, especially when worn over a drying lipstick.
  • Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss 20 Audace is the perfect mauve brown shade.  I love to pair this with Girlactik Allure Matte Lip Paint for the ultimate sophisticated lip look.

Best of Beauty 2014 Brushes:

Best of Beauty 2014 Brushes: Chikuhodo Z-8, Z-4, Z-5 Philosophy Supernatural Airbrush Brush, Wayne Goss Brush 01, Tom Ford Cream Foundation Brush, Billy B #12, Laura Mercier Dual Fiber Eyeshadow, Memebox Eye Brushes.

Best of Beauty 2014 Brushes:
Chikuhodo Z-8, Z-4, Z-5 Philosophy Supernatural Airbrush Brush, Wayne Goss Brush 01, Tom Ford Cream Foundation Brush, Billy B #12, Laura Mercier Finishing Eye Brush, Memebox Eye Brushes.

  • Chikuhodo Z-Series brushes are the most exquisite brushes I have ever used.   These brushes are meant to be used with powder products only.  The soft bristles blend the most pigmented powders to professional perfection.
  • Philosophy Supernatural Airbrush Brush is an oldie but a goodie that was resuscitated for use with my Guerlain Powder Foundation.  The soft dense synthetic bristles effectively works powder into the skin, giving flawless results.
  • Wayne Goss Brush 01 is a wonderful brush that works especially well with liquid foundations.  Currently, I use this brush to apply my cream and/or powder highlighter.
  • Tom Ford Cream Foundation Brush is used for blush and/or contour  application.  The small dense head is perfect for accurate product placement.
  • Billy B #12 Brush is used everyday for blending out gel liners, powder eyeshadows and for my outer corner color application.  The dual fiber angled design is perfect for hard to reach places.
  • Laura Mercier Finishing Eye Brush has been in my collection for years.  I recently started to utilize this gem to blend out my concealer for amazing results!
  • Memebox Brushes are meant for travel, but the short handles and brush head designs are perfect for everyday use.  In addition, the affordable price makes this set an even more attractive offering.

Best of Beauty 2014 Nails:

Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Nail Lacquer with flash.

Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Nail Lacquer (with flash).

  • Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Nail Color is my favorite color from 2014.  The cream formula is classic and appropriate for many occasions.  Best of all, the Estee Lauder’s formula removes easily without color bleeding or staining of the nails.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you this has been a fantastic year for cosmetics.  The innovative formulas and colors seem to have come alive this year.  What have been some of your favorites of 2014?  As always, be well, stay safe and be happy.  May you have a Happy and Healthy New Year!

Current Favorites.
Nars Light Reflecting Pressed Powder used with the BeautyBlender.

  • Lancome Teint Idole 24H Foundation 340 (N) Bisque lasts all day with slight oil break through on the T-Zone area.  Plus the color selection is amazing, I have never had a foundation match my skin coloring so well.
  • Guerlain Meteorites Primer is lovely, but severely overpriced for what it does.  There are other primers that do the job just as well for a fraction of the price.
  • Chantecaille Gel Bronzer (reviewed here) has been used since my little beach excursion.  Someone forgot to tell me to rotate my beach chair, as a result, the right side of my face is more tan than the left.  I use this guy to even myself out.
  • Nars Light Reflecting Pressed Setting Powder (reviewed here) has been the secret to my “flawless” skin.  I simply use a DRY BeautyBlender to pick up product, tap off the excess on a towel and use the “press and roll” method to apply the powder onto the T-Zone area and on any enlarged pores around my cheeks.
  • Wayne Goss 01 Brush (reviewed here) is the ultimate foundation (everything) brush.  There is no going back to another brush.  Enough said!
Current Cheek Favorites: Vincent Longo Copper Kiss Bronzer, Estee Lauder 04 Crystal baby Gelee, Giorgio Armani 10 Beige Sheer Blush, Vincent Longo Sandalwood Blush, Tom Ford Bronzer Brush, Tom Ford cream Foundation Brush, Chikuhodo Z-8 Cheek Brush, Chikuhodo Z-2 Highlighter Brush.

  • Vincent Longo Copper Kiss Bronzer (reviewed here) is so finely milled and pigmented.  I use my Chikuhodo Z-8 Cheek Brush to apply the bronzer to my face and Tom Ford Bronzer Brush (reviewed here) to apply the powder to my décolletage.
  • Estee Lauder 04 Crystal Baby Gelee (reviewed here) is such a lovely pearlescent pink highlighter.  I use my slightly dampened Tom Ford Cream Foundation Brush (reviewed here) to apply the powder to highlight the cheek bones.  Just remember to use this beauty sparingly to avoid looking like a disco ball.
  • Giorgio Armani 10 Beige Sheer Blush remains my favorite blush color.  This muted pinky/beige hue seems to go with every makeup look under the sun.  Use with a dense dampened brush for more color intensity and longevity.
  • Vincent Longo Sandalwood Dew Drop Blush (reviewed here) is just as finely milled as 10 Beige, but gives me the option to utilize a peach blush for certain looks.  I prefer to apply this pigmented powder with my Chikuhodo Z-2 Highlighter Brush for even and smooth results.

Current Favorites:
Givenchy 9 Brun Cachemire with Cargo Waterproof Bronzer on the lower lash line. Tom Ford Eye Defining Pen with Armani Navy Eyes to Kill Solo on the upper lash line. YSL #07 Gold Star on the waterline.

  • Cargo Waterproof Bronzer combined with Givenchy 9 Brun Cachemire (reviewed here) are my everyday lower lash line colors.  Applying the same colors to my lower lash line as those on my lid, does not look particularly flattering on my eyes.  The resulting bronze coloring defines the area and brightens the eyes.
  • Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Solo Eyeshadows in 2 Armani Navy and 9 Tadzio (reviewed here and here) have amazing pigmentation and longevity; the latter looks so delicious when applied with a dampened brush.
  • YSL #07 Gold Star Cream Liner makes an amazing waterline color.  I find this formula lasts all day with slight fading on the outer corners.  As an added bonus, the deep gold coloring looks great with a variety of eye looks.
  • Clinique High Impact Extreme Mascara has served me well for the last few months.  It does exactly what it claims to do.
  • Chikuhodo Z-5 Eyeshadow Brush (reviewed here) is the one brush that can do it all (at least on my eye shape).  The soft dense hairs pick-up color quickly and delicately.  Never a scratchy moment with this beauty.
  • Sonia Kashuk Concealer Brush is used dampened to apply my eyeshadows.  The synthetic fibers are rather resilient and the price cannot be beat.  Lately, I have been using this wonder to apply Armani Navy along the upper lash line and in the outer corners.
  • Nars Eyeshadow Primer (reviewed here) is the best eyeshadow primer……period.
Current Favorites: Tom Ford Eye Defining Pen, Shu Uemura 05 Stone Gray, Milani Brow Gel.

Current Favorites:
Tom Ford Eye Defining Pen, Shu Uemura 05 Stone Gray, Milani Brow Gel.

  • Tom Ford Eye Defining Pen (reviewed here) has been in my possession for 10 months and has remained as inky black as the first day I brought it home.  The quality of the dual ended felt tips is outstanding, they remain unaffected by eyeshadow residue.  My Milani Eyeliner was prone to eyeshadow build-up, as a result, the tip no longer dispense product.
  • Shu Uemura 05 Stone Gray was discovered in the back of one of my makeup drawers.  Even though the color is a bit deeper than it predecessor, 02 Seal Brown, a pencil this wonderful could not go to waste.  My 02 Seal Brown Pencil lasted 3 years before a replacement was needed.
  • Milani Brow Gel does what it claims to do at a very cheap price.

Current Lip Favorites:
Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Envy Lipstick, Lipstick Queen Private Party Velvet Rope Lipstick, Dior Fluid Sticks, It Cosmetics YLBB Waterproof Lip Liner Stain.

  • Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipsticks (reviewed here) are wonderful.  450 Insolent plum is one of my favorite shades.
  • Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope Lipsticks (reviewed here) have a heavenly formula.  Private Party is the perfect bright pinky/red shade for the summer time.
  • Dior Addict Fluid Sticks (reviewed here) have a lovely texture.  The lasting power is not the greatest on their own, but when added to a long wearing lip color, the results are stunning.
  • It Cosmetics YLBB Waterproof Lip Liner Stains (reviewed here) have amazing longevity especially when used as a base for lipsticks.
Current Personal Care Favorites: Coconut Oil, Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Dry Oil, Natures Gate Toothpaste, L'Oreal Olio Therapy Shampoo, Sienna Naturals Leave-in-Conditioner, Target Eye Makeup Remover.

Current Personal Care Favorites:
Coconut Oil, Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Dry Oil, Natures Gate Toothpaste, L’Oreal Olio Therapy Shampoo, Sienna Naturals Leave-in-Conditioner, Target Eye Makeup Remover.

  • Organic Coconut Oil is my night-time/summer-time moisturizer.  Bruce Fife, C.N., N.D. wrote a great book called, The Coconut Oil Miracle, outlining all the benefits of Coconut Oil.  He states, “Polynesians, who traditionally wear very little clothing, have beautiful skin without blemishes and without cancer.  The reason is they eat coconuts and use the oil on their bodies as a lotion.”
  • Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse is my day-time/summer-time moisturizer.  The dry-oil quickly absorbs into the skin and doesn’t cause me to “sweat” during hot humid days.
  • Natures Gate Toothpaste is one of the few toothpaste brands that is fluoride-free and sodium laurel sulfate free.
  • L’Oreal Oleo Shampoo is sulfate-free and smells heavenly.  I would purchase Sienna Naturals Shampoo, but my son goes through shampoo like water and requires a readily available and affordable alternative.
  • Sienna Naturals Leave-In-Conditioner was recommended by Olivia from The Unknown Beauty Blog (her fabulous review here).  I love this product, the all natural formula truly smooths out the hair without weighting it down.  I’m on my second bottle, my son used up the first bottle completely.
  • Target Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover gets the job done.  Although I am a devoted Bioderma user, as of late, I feel a tinge of resentment over the inflated price ($40) for a makeup remover.  The same product in France cost $10 dollars.
Current Favorites: City of Heavenly Fire, Tom Ford Violet Blonde Perfume,Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Nail Lacquer.

Current Favorites:
City of Heavenly Fire, Tom Ford Violet Blonde Perfume,Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Nail Lacquer.

  • City of Heavenly Fire is the last book in The Mortal Instrument Series.  If you enjoy a quick supernatural read, then this series is for you.  The movie was a major disappointment, the series had the potential to be the next Harry Potter and they wrecked that opportunity with a horrible script and subpar actors.
  • Tom Ford Violet Blonde is the only perfume that will last during the hottest of days.  I would love to describe the notes and so on, but Gaia from The NonBlonde is the source for all things fragrance related.
  • Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Nail Lacquer is amazing. The left photo shows the polish on the first day and the right photo shows the polish on the fifth day with a fresh top coat added.

Giorgio Armani 2 Armani Navy Eyes to Kill Solo Eyeshadow.

Navy blue is a great alternative to black and seems to possess a warmth that is lacking in its gloomy cousin.  So it would only seem natural for a makeup connoisseur, such as myself, to seek out the perfect navy eyeshadow.  My search lead me to Giorgio Armani 2 Armani Navy Eyes To Kill Solo Eyeshadow ($32 USD/1.5 g).  Seemingly common in appearance to many other “blues,” this uniquely colored dark horse is assuredly the best in texture, finish and pigment.  There–I said it, now you be the judge 🙂

Giorgio Armani #2 Armani Navy Eyes to Kill Solo Eyeshadow dry and wet swatch.

Giorgio Armani 2 Armani Navy Eyes To Kill Solo Eyeshadow dry and wet swatch.

The Pros to Giorgio Armani 2 Armani Navy Eyes To Kill Solo Eyeshadow:

  1. Beautiful true matte navy blue color.
  2. Smooth silky texture binds to skin immediately resulting in zero fallout.
  3. Highly pigmented formula has a distinctly navy blue tone..does not appear black from afar.
  4. Can be used dry or wet..although wetting the color deepens the tone.
  5. Makes an outstanding eyeliner when used with a dampened angle brush.
  6. Can be layered seamlessly over cream/gel eyeshadows.
  7. When 2 Armani Navy is layered, the beautiful blue tone takes on a velvet appearance.
  8. Amazing longevity 10 hours+ over a primer.
  9. Sophisticated blue is very grown-up and office appropriate.
  10. Can be paired with a neutral or darker lip color.
  11. Packaging contains a mirror and handy sponge tip applicator.
  12. Eyes to Kill Solo Eyeshadows come in 20 shades.
  13. Formulated without parabens.
  14. Made in Italy.

The Cons to Giorgio Armani 2 Armani Navy Eyes To Kill Solo Eyeshadow:

  1. When applied wet, 2 Armani Navy’s matte formula does not blend as effortlessly as 9 Tadzio.
  2. Hooded eyes may encounter color transfer to the crease area if too much product is applied.
  3. For some reason this shade contains less product (1.5 g) than 9 Tadzio (1.75 g).  Come now Armani, for $32 you could have spared the extra .25 g.
  4. Although cute, the packaging is a bit bulky and awkward to store with other Eyes to Kill Solo Eyeshadows.
  5. Ingredient list differs dramatically from 9 Tadzio.
  6. Formulated with Paraffin (aka: mineral oil).  For the price, I would have preferred a more natural ingredient.

Look 1:  Giorgio Armani 2 Armani Navy with a neutral lip and golden liner.

For the above photos, I used my dampened Estee Lauder Angled Eyeliner Brush to line the upper lash line with 2 Armani Navy. My dry Billy B #12 Brush was used to pick up more color and go over the wet line, to blend the color upwards and intensify the blue tones of the eyeshdaow.  Fingers work just as well to pack on color and give the eyeshadow a more velvety appearance.  Bobbi Brown 2 Bone was used on the rest of the mobile lid to blend out any harsh edges.

Vincent Longo Copper Kiss Bronzer was used in the crease and BB 2 Bone was used to highlight the brow bone area.  YSL #7 Gold Star was used to line the inner waterline (this stuff does not budge throughout the day).  As usual, a combination of Givenchy 9 Brun Cachemire (reviewed here) and Cargo Waterproof Bronzer was use on the lower lash line.  Estee Lauder 04 Crystal Baby Gelee (reviewed here) was used, with a dry brush, to highlight the inner corner of the eye.

Look 2:  Giorgio Armani 2 Armani Navy with a bold lip and pink highlighter.

For this photo, the same was done as Look 1, with the obvious difference being Estee Lauder Crystal Baby was used with a dampened brush for more intensity and YSL #7 Gold Star liner was omitted for the day.  I also paired my blue and pink look with Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope Lipstick in Private Party…love this color and formula.

Look 3: Giorgio Armani 2 Armani Navy used as an eyeliner.

For this simple look, a slightly dampened angled eyeliner brush was used to draw a thick line above the lash line.  Then taking the edge of the sponge applicator provided, and dipping it into Armani Navy, I lightly smudged the outer corners to create a smoky effect.

  • Nars China Blue appears very similar in the pan to Armani Navy, but when swatched, the purple undertones become quite evident.
  • Bobbi Brown Rich Navy was another color similar in appearance to Armani Navy, however, when swatched, Rich Navy resembled a black eyeshadow more so than a navy blue.
  • Giorgio Armani 2 Armani Navy is just right 🙂

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Giorgio Armani 2 Armani Navy Eyes To Kill Solo Eyeshadow is definitely the best in its class.  Although rather expensive, the true navy color and velvety texture make this a must-have for those seeking a quality navy eyeshadow color.  Believe it or not a good navy eyeshadow is very hard to find.  If you don’t believe me, go to your local Nordstrom, or any department store, and test all the navy blue eyeshadows for yourself.  When I did this, the security guard could not tell if he should be suspicious of my actions or pity me for being completely off my rocker…what I do for this blog.  Be well, stay safe and be happy.

Vincent Longo Sandalwood Dew Drop Radiant Blush review and photos.

Vincent Longo Sandalwood Dew Drop Radiant Blush.

Vincent Longo Sandalwood Dew Drop Radiant Blush.

Blushes have been an obsession of mine as of late.  My blush journey has led me to some very interesting formulas.  Whatever the case, nothing seemed to come close to my Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 10 Beige.  That was until, Olivia from The Unknown Beauty Blog featured Vincent Longo Dew Drop Blush in one of her posts.  In her comment to me, she described the texture of her Vincent Longo blush similar to that of Giorgio Armani Sheer Blushes.  Armed with this revelation, I immediately obtained Vincent Longo Sandalwood Dew Drop Radiant Blush ($30 USD/ 9g).  As soon as I opened this beauty, I could tell my Giorgio Armani Blush was in for some serious competition.

The Pros of Vincent Longo Sandalwood Dew Drop Radiant Blush:

  1. Beautiful peachy base color with gold and lavender pearls (aka: dew drops).
  2. Lightweight, silky smooth formula glides onto the skin.
  3. Subtle “dew drops” blend with the peach semi-matte color to give the blush a seamless radiant finish.
  4. Does not settle into pores or fine lines.
  5. Fantastic blendability and color payoff.
  6. Easily bluildable to show on the darkest of complexions.
  7. Can be used as a brightening peach eyeshadow.
  8. Wears for 8 hours when used dry–10 hours + when applied with a dampened brush.
  9. Sandalwood Blush contains 9 grams of product…well worth the investment.  This is the same amount as VL Bronzers and definitely more than what any other cosmetic brand offers in their blush line.
  10. The compact is well constructed with a magnetic closure; it can be opened fully to rest on a table for easy accessibility to the powder–especially important for makeup artists.
  11. Well balanced compact can also be positioned to sit upright if one needs to utilize the mirror for makeup application.
  12. Comes in six colors.
  13. Slight “fig” fragrance is imperceptible after a couple of minutes.
  14. Formulated without parabens or mineral oil.
  15. Made in Italy.

The Cons to Vincent Longo Sandalwood Dew Drop Radiant Blush:

  1. Vincent Longo Cosmetics are found in limited retail locations.
  2. Slight powder “kick-up” if a heavy hand is used when dipping a brush into the pan.
  3. Formulated with silicones and first ingredient is talc (some are concerned that talc contains asbestos, but cosmetic grade talc is said to be asbestos-free).
  4. Really no other cons…this blush is amazing!

For such a delicate powder, Sandalwood’s color payoff is phenomenal and the slight sheen is flattering for all age groups.  Vincent Logo describes the dew drops as “meteorite pearls” designed to give the blush a muted radiance.  This faint illumination keeps the blush from looking too dull/chalky.  For those who seek a more glowing finish, I have found Estee Lauder 04 Crystal Baby Illuminating Gelee Blush (reviewed here) pairs perfectly with Sandalwood. ♥

Vincent Longo Sandalwood Dew Drop Radiant Blush makes a fantastic eyeshadow.  Peach colored eyeshdaows are known for their brighten effect.  For this look, I used my Chikuhodo Z-5 Eyeshadow Brush (reviewed here) and applied Sandalwood, with the greatest of ease, all over the mobile lid area.  I then used my Billy B #12 Brush to apply Giorgio Armani #9 Tadzio (reviewed here) to the outer corners.  I lightly dabbed Estee Lauder 04 Crystal Baby in the middle of the lid with my finger and applied a small amount to the inner counter of the eye with a dampened Billy B #12 Brush (reviewed here).  YSL 07 Gold Star Creme Eyeliner was used along the waterline.

Vincent Longo Sandalwood Dew Drop Radiant Blush compact folds out completely for easy access to the powder.  This feature is particularly important to makeup artists so they are able to view and use products more efficiently.  Estee Lauder, Giorgio Armani and Vincent Longo are all properly balanced for easy usage.  As you can tell, the Nars compact does not open completely and is weighted in favor of the mirror, leaving the powder portion inconveniently elevated.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Vincent Longo Sandalwood Dew Drop Radiant Blush is outstanding.  The formula, color, blendability, subtle radiance and packaging are all encompassed in this blush.  The well-edited selection of blush colors is sure to please everyone.  For a limited time, Vincentlongo.com is having a 30% sale until 7/16/14 with code VL7430.   For $21 (after the 30% discount) you are getting one of the best blush formulations in the business.  Up next, Vincent Longo Bronzer in Copper Kiss–psst…this guy is pretty amazing as well.   Be well, stay safe and be happy.

Estee Lauder 04 Crystal Baby Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelee Blush review and comparisons.

Estee Lauder 04 Crystal Baby Illuminating Powder Gelee Blush.

Estee Lauder 04 Crystal Baby Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelee Blush.

While at the Estee Lauder counter minding my own business (by business I mean, scouting out other Pure Color Envy lipsticks) I discovered Estee Lauder 04 Crystal Baby Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelee Blush ($40 USD/ 6g) part of the Summer 2014 Crystal Baby Collection, an Asia Exclusive.  This collection centered around the theme of fresh clean makeup, it consists of:

  • Four lipsticks ($26 USD):  Crystal Baby (permanent color), Crystal Blush, Crystal Doll and Crystal Innocence.
  • One lipgloss ($24 USD):  Crystal Baby.
  • One Illuminating Powder Gelee Blush ($40 USD):  Crystal Baby Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelee Blush.
  • One Nail Polish ($21 USD):  You guessed it….Crystal Baby.

The Pros to 04 Crystal Baby Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelee Blush:

  1. Absolutely beautiful opalescent pink illuminator.
  2. Sheer base color keeps Crystal Baby from looking dull on the skin.
  3. Texture is incredible smooth and lightweight.
  4. Can be used dry or wet.
  5. When used with a dense dampened brush, the powder transforms into a cream/gel-like consistency that easily glides on the skin, leaving behind a radiant finish.
  6. Lasts well throughout the day with slight fading by the eighth hour when used dry.
  7. Can be mixed lightly with your blush to create the “glow-from-within” look.
  8. Sturdy packaging comes with a large mirror and sponge applicator, which works quite well with this product.
  9. Makes an amazing inner corner highlighter.
  10. Does not settle into pores and fine lines if used in moderation.
  11. Can be used as an eyeshadow mixed with other cream/gel eyeshadows.
  12. Product does not harden in the pan when wet.
  13. Smoother texture and more wearable than my Modern Mercury Gelee and comes with more product.
  14. Formulated without parabens or mineral oil.

The Cons to 04 Crystal Baby Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelee Blush:

  1. Nordstrom is the only in-store and online retailer.
  2. This collection was hidden behind the counter, not easily visible to the public.
  3. Asia exclusive?  WTH (what the heck) This has to be one of the best collections Estee Lauder has created for the summer…heck 04 Crystal Baby Gelee should be made permanent.
  4. Can look too shimmery if applied with a heavy hand or used solely as a blush.
  5. No other cons…I love the formula of Estee Lauder Powder Gelees  🙂

Estee Lauder 04 Crystal Baby Pure Color IIluminationg Powder Gelee Blush is an amazing highlighter.  I used my dampened Tom Ford Cream Foundation Brush (reviewed here) to apply 04 Crystal Baby above the cheekbones.  Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipstick in 210 Impulsive (reviewed here) makes for the perfect lip color to wear with 04 Crystal Baby Gelee.

As the name would suggest, 04 Crystal Baby Gelee Blush can be used as a blush when mixed with regular blushes.  For the above photo, I dipped my Tom Ford Cheek Brush twice in Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 10 Beige and once in Crystal Baby.  This pairing is ideal, because Crystal Baby was able to boost the luminosity that was inherent in GA 10 Beige.

Another wonderful use for this limited-edition Gelee, is to use it as an eyeshadow.  Personally, I loved the effect when paired with a warm golden base, such as, YSL 07 Gold Star Creme Liner.  I simply applied 07 Gold Star all over the mobile lid and added Crystal Baby on top.  This combo did not budge for 10 hours, even my arm swatch seemed to be “glued” onto my skin.

  • MAC Play-It-Proper and Thebalm Mary-lou Manizer are formulated with a white base color that can turn a bit ashy on certain skin tones.
  • Estee Lauder Modern Mercury Gelee was one of those products I had to have, because it was the first of its kind.  I barely wore the darn thing, because it was too shimmery, too dark and just too much.
  • Laura Mercier Highlight 01 is a wonderful peachy/pink highlighter (reviewed here).
  • Laura Mercier Spellbound is similar in consistency to Crystal Baby.  Although, I feel Crystal Baby has a smoother texture and the sheer iridescent pink tone is beyond flattering on variety of skin tones (review here).
  • RMS Beauty Living Luminizer is wonderful highlighter for the cooler seasons (reviewed here).

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Estee Lauder 04 Crystal Baby Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelee Blush is one of the most beautiful color and formulation of highlighters to date.  The overall effect is radiant and sophisticated.  The burning question…Do you need this beauty in your life?  Do BBQ and Fourth of July go-hand-in-hand?  Do birds fly?  Are children and sugar synonymous?   Yes, yes, yes and yes.  Run don’t walk to get this beauty…before it’s gone.  Up next, Vincent Longo Blush review…I blame that wonderful purchase on Olivia from The Unknown Beauty Blog.  Be well, stay safe and be happy.
