Diorskin Star Sculpting & Brightening Concealer review, swatches and application.

Diorskin Star Concealer 003 Sable/Sand.

I have never been one to wear concealer on a daily basis.  The thought of applying another layer of makeup to an overly sensitive area, never appealed to me.  After all, the products I encountered have either been too heavy, or too light, too emollient, or too dry, I could never find the right product with the right consistency–that is, until now.  Diorskin Star Sculpting & Brightening Concealer ($36 USD/ 6ml) has changed my unenthusiastic outlook.  Ladies, this is the concealer that has been missing from my makeup life–this is the peanut to my butter, the milk to my shake, the salsa to my chip…you get the idea 🙂

Diorskin Star Sculpting & Brigthening 003 Sable/Sand.

Diorskin Star Sculpting & Brigthening 003 Sable/Sand.

The Pros to Diorskin Star Sculpting & Brightening Concealer 003 Sable/Sand:

  1. Extremely pigmented.
  2. Silky smooth consistency glides on the skin and blends out seamlessly.
  3. Very little amount is needed to achieve amazing coverage.
  4. Natural semi-matte finish (due to the titanium dioxide and silica) looks like second skin.
  5. Incredibly hydrating without any creasing.
  6. Can be blended with fingers or a synthetic brush.
  7. Unbelievable lasting power..seroiusly does not budge throughout the day.
  8. Adorable plastic packaging is compact and easily portable for travel.
  9. Five shades provided to accommodate a variety of skin tones.
  10. Compatible with my Guerlain Powder Foundation.
  11. Formulated without fragrance, mineral oil or parabens.
  12. Made in France.

The Cons to Diorskin Star Sculpting & Brightening Concealer 003 Sable/Sand:

  1. Blotchy results can occur if the conceler is left unblended for too long.
  2. Colors are a bit deceptive.  002 was originally the shade I wanted to get, but it turned out to be more of a highlighting shade.  003 swatched a bit on the dark side, but once applied to the eye area everything melded beautifully.  Try before you buy.
  3. Can be easily overdone if a heavy hand is used during application.  Take it one dot at a time.
  4. Can attach to dry spots if skin is not properly moisturized before hand.
  5. Formulated with silicones.

Highlighting the green veining around the bridge of the nose (right eye).

  • My purpose for purchasing this color was to conceal the green veining next to the bridge of my nose.  I know, the general consensus when it comes to concealers is to use one shade lighter than our foundation coloring, but that method was only adding to my sallowness.  Finding a color closest to my foundation actually concealed my problem area, rather than highlighting the issue.
Diorskin Star Sculpting & Brigthening Concealer 003 Sable/Sand

Applied Diorskin Star Sculpting & Brigthening Concealer 003 Sable/Sand unblended.

  • For the above photo, I dispensed a small amount of concealer to the back of my hand, and used my finger to apply a light coating directly over my veining issue.  This method ensures one does not accidentally deposit too much product, to the affect region all at once.  My issue is not that serious, but for those who have severe discoloration, applying light gradual layers will yield more natural and blended results.
Diorskin Star Sculpting & Brigthening Concealer 003 Sable/Sand

Diorskin Star Sculpting & Brigthening Concealer 003 Sable/Sand completely blended.

  • For the above photo, I blended out the concealer with my finger, but a synthetic brush (Sonia Kashuk Concealer Brush) works just as well for natural results.

Diorskin Star Sculpting & Brigthening Concealer 003 Sable/Sand with Guerlain Lingerie De Peau Nude Powder Foundation in 03 Beige Naturel.

  • For above photo, I added the lightest dusting of Guerlain Lingerie De Peau Nude Powder Foundation in 03 Beige Naturel to set and incorporate the color with the rest of my makeup.  Not bad, if I do say so myself.

Comparison Swatches:
Sunday Riley Dry Touch Concealer 125W, Edward Bess Soft Beige Concealer, Diorskin Star Concealer, Estee Lauder Maximum Coverage Foundation 03 Creamy Vanilla.

  • Sunday Riley Dry Touch Concealer was purchased with the same intent, but as you can see, this cream formula has a strong pink undertone that did not mesh well with my coloring.  In addition, the lasting power was not that impressive and the texture felt heavy.
  • Edward Bess Soft Beige Concealer was sold to me by the man himself (who I must say, is a true gentleman) to act as a highlighting shade.  Even though the lasting power is wonderful, sadly the color was too light for my purpose.  Furthermore, the texture is not as lightweight as Dior.
  • Diorskin Star Sculpting & Brightening Concealer 003 Sable/Sand seemed too dark, but when applied to the desired area, the color magically adjusted to my coloring.  If you can tell, the texture is also the lightest of the bunch and this formula adheres to the skin beautifully.
  • Estee Lauder Maximum Coverage Foundation 03 Creamy Vanilla is just as pigmented as Dior, but the texture is heavier and drier.  This was my go-to concealer on the rare occasion I actually wore concealer, but now Dior has dominated the playing field.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Diorskin Star Sculpting & Brigthening Concealer 003 Sable/Sand is the best concealer I have ever used.  The hydrating formula, creamy texture, natural results and superb lasting power make this an all around winner.  This is the nut to my bolt, the cherry to my sundae, the milk to my shake…I could go on.  Try Diorskin Star Concealer and see for yourself and this may very well be, the best to your friend.  Yeah, I had one more in me 🙂  Be well, stay safe and be happy.

Estee Lauder Rebellious Rose 420 Pure Color Envy Lipstick review and swatches.

Estee Lauder Rebellious Rose 420 Pure Color Envy Lipstick.

Estee Lauder Rebellious Rose 420 Pure Color Envy Lipstick.

For my sister’s birthday, there are two rules we always follow; firstly, we all must acknowledge that this is her 23rd birthday for the %$%& year in a row; second, never get her makeup…with the exception of lipstick.  So naturally, I turned to Estee Lauder Rebellious Rose 420 Pure Color Envy Lipstick ($30 USD/3.5g) as the lone makeup item to gift to my older…I mean, wiser sister.  As soon as she opened the box her exact words were, “Ooh, I love the smell, taste and formula of this lipstick.”  Upon seeing how beautiful this color looked on her, I made it a point to purchase a tube of Rebellious Rose the following day for myself. After all, isn’t that what envious little sisters do?  Yup…some things never change.

Estee Lauder Rebellious Rose 420 Pure Color Envy Lipstick.

Estee Lauder Rebellious Rose 420 Pure Color Envy Lipstick.

Rebellious Rose is a beautiful rosy coral shade that would look spectacular with a variety of makeup looks. I have worn this delectable shade with the smokiest of eyes, never feeling overdone or out-of-place.  This is the perfect everyday, every occasion color.  My perfect “nude” if you will, without the corpse-like severity of many neutral shades.  As mentioned in previous posts, Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy lipsticks are hydrating, smooth and supple.  The satin formula imparts a slight sheen, which gives the lips a plump appearance.

When worn on its own, Rebellious Rose lasted 3½-4 hours.  However, when paired with It Cosmetics Blushing Nude YLBB Waterproof Lip Liner Stain (reviewed here), the color endured for 6 hours without any feathering–longer if I hadn’t removed what was left.  In all that time, my lips never felt dry, on the contrary, my lips were encapsulated with a veil of hydration that can only be described as, soothing.

Estee Lauder Rebellious Rose 420 Pure Color Envy Lipstick topped lightly with Dior Addict Fluid Stick 975 Minuit.

One of my favorite ways to wear Rebellious Rose is paired with Dior Addict Fluid Stick in 975 Minuit (reviewed here).  In fact, this shade is so versatile, I have worn it with Dior Addict Fluid Sticks 869 Vie D’Enfer (reviewed here), 219 Whisper Beige, and 893 Trompe L’Oeil (reviewed here).  In every instance, the resulting hue was stunning.

For the complete ingredient list, please refer to this post here.  The ingredient list is so long, no website will dare post this record.

**Estee Lauder Rebellious Rose 420 Pure Color Envy Lipstick can be found at SephoraNordstrom, Bloomingdales, Saks, Sephora.com and esteelauder.com.**

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Estee Lauder Rebellious Rose 420 Pure Color Envy Lipstick is one of the most complimentary shade of lipsticks I have come across.  The rich color, creamy formula, fantastic color selection and unbelievably comfortable wear is enough of a reason to check-these-out.  If my cosmetically resistant sister loves these, then you know they are worth your time.  I have four and counting, how many do you plan on getting?  Be well, stay safe and be happy.

Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Nail Lacquer review and photos.

Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Nail Lacquer in natural light.

Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Nail Lacquer in natural light.

As you may very well know, I adore Estee Lauder 450 Insolent Plum Pure Color Envy Lipstick (reviewed here).  So imagine my surprise when I discovered Estee Lauder also makes a matching nail color, part of the Pure Color Envy Collection.  With the blink of the eye and the sleight of hand of a skillful magician, an isolated bottle of Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Nail Lacquer ($21 USD/.3 fl. oz.) found its way to my home.  This beautiful berry red polish was displayed in the most remote location at Bloomingdales…Friends, “Nobody puts [this] Baby in the corner.”

Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Nail Lacquer with flash.

Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Nail Lacquer with flash.

Estee Lauder Insolent Plum has to be one of the most beautiful plum colors I have come across in a long time.  In natural light, the slight red undertones are quite evident, giving this stunner a warmth and brightness that sets it apart from other polishes in the “plum” color family. In the presence of flash photography and during darker lighting conditions, Insolent Plum takes on a deeper tone, but definitely does not cross into “black nail polish” territory.

Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Nail Lacquer.

Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Nail Lacquer.

The brush is a bit thinner than what I am accustomed to using.  However, the formula is the winning feature of this polish; the coverage is smooth and even.  Two coats are all that is needed to reach complete opacity.  The high shine and chip resistant polish will most likely last a good 5 days before I feel the need to remove this beauty.  I am currently wearing Insolent Plum for three days and it looks as fresh as the day I applied it to my nails (this will vary according to one’s activities).  Estee Lauder polishes are considered 3-free; thankfully, most polishes these days fall into this category.

Insolent Plum would be appropriate for a variety of occasions, nail lengths, ages and skin tones.  Best of all, Insolent Plum Nail Lacquer goes perfectly with, you guess it, Insolent Plum Pure Color Envy Lipstick. Even though, some might consider coordinating nail polish and lip color so 1983, this matching set is stylish, modern and attractive.

  • Tumultuous Pink (cream finish)

Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Nail Lacquer can be found at Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Macy’s and esteelauder.com.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Nail Lacquer is a must-have.  If you seek a brightening plum polish with amazing shine and longevity, then this color and formula is for you.  Just like its lipstick companion, Insolent Plum Nail Lacquer is sure to get you noticed.  Be well, stay safe and be happy.

Estee Lauder 04 Crystal Baby Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelee Blush review and comparisons.

Estee Lauder 04 Crystal Baby Illuminating Powder Gelee Blush.

Estee Lauder 04 Crystal Baby Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelee Blush.

While at the Estee Lauder counter minding my own business (by business I mean, scouting out other Pure Color Envy lipsticks) I discovered Estee Lauder 04 Crystal Baby Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelee Blush ($40 USD/ 6g) part of the Summer 2014 Crystal Baby Collection, an Asia Exclusive.  This collection centered around the theme of fresh clean makeup, it consists of:

  • Four lipsticks ($26 USD):  Crystal Baby (permanent color), Crystal Blush, Crystal Doll and Crystal Innocence.
  • One lipgloss ($24 USD):  Crystal Baby.
  • One Illuminating Powder Gelee Blush ($40 USD):  Crystal Baby Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelee Blush.
  • One Nail Polish ($21 USD):  You guessed it….Crystal Baby.

L-R:
Estee Lauder 04 Crystal Baby Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelee Blush dry, wet and blended swatch with Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 10 Beige.

The Pros to 04 Crystal Baby Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelee Blush:

  1. Absolutely beautiful opalescent pink illuminator.
  2. Sheer base color keeps Crystal Baby from looking dull on the skin.
  3. Texture is incredible smooth and lightweight.
  4. Can be used dry or wet.
  5. When used with a dense dampened brush, the powder transforms into a cream/gel-like consistency that easily glides on the skin, leaving behind a radiant finish.
  6. Lasts well throughout the day with slight fading by the eighth hour when used dry.
  7. Can be mixed lightly with your blush to create the “glow-from-within” look.
  8. Sturdy packaging comes with a large mirror and sponge applicator, which works quite well with this product.
  9. Makes an amazing inner corner highlighter.
  10. Does not settle into pores and fine lines if used in moderation.
  11. Can be used as an eyeshadow mixed with other cream/gel eyeshadows.
  12. Product does not harden in the pan when wet.
  13. Smoother texture and more wearable than my Modern Mercury Gelee and comes with more product.
  14. Formulated without parabens or mineral oil.

The Cons to 04 Crystal Baby Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelee Blush:

  1. Nordstrom is the only in-store and online retailer.
  2. This collection was hidden behind the counter, not easily visible to the public.
  3. Asia exclusive?  WTH (what the heck) This has to be one of the best collections Estee Lauder has created for the summer…heck 04 Crystal Baby Gelee should be made permanent.
  4. Can look too shimmery if applied with a heavy hand or used solely as a blush.
  5. No other cons…I love the formula of Estee Lauder Powder Gelees  🙂

Estee Lauder 04 Crystal Baby Pure Color IIluminationg Powder Gelee Blush is an amazing highlighter.  I used my dampened Tom Ford Cream Foundation Brush (reviewed here) to apply 04 Crystal Baby above the cheekbones.  Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipstick in 210 Impulsive (reviewed here) makes for the perfect lip color to wear with 04 Crystal Baby Gelee.

As the name would suggest, 04 Crystal Baby Gelee Blush can be used as a blush when mixed with regular blushes.  For the above photo, I dipped my Tom Ford Cheek Brush twice in Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 10 Beige and once in Crystal Baby.  This pairing is ideal, because Crystal Baby was able to boost the luminosity that was inherent in GA 10 Beige.

Another wonderful use for this limited-edition Gelee, is to use it as an eyeshadow.  Personally, I loved the effect when paired with a warm golden base, such as, YSL 07 Gold Star Creme Liner.  I simply applied 07 Gold Star all over the mobile lid and added Crystal Baby on top.  This combo did not budge for 10 hours, even my arm swatch seemed to be “glued” onto my skin.

  • MAC Play-It-Proper and Thebalm Mary-lou Manizer are formulated with a white base color that can turn a bit ashy on certain skin tones.
  • Estee Lauder Modern Mercury Gelee was one of those products I had to have, because it was the first of its kind.  I barely wore the darn thing, because it was too shimmery, too dark and just too much.
  • Laura Mercier Highlight 01 is a wonderful peachy/pink highlighter (reviewed here).
  • Laura Mercier Spellbound is similar in consistency to Crystal Baby.  Although, I feel Crystal Baby has a smoother texture and the sheer iridescent pink tone is beyond flattering on variety of skin tones (review here).
  • RMS Beauty Living Luminizer is wonderful highlighter for the cooler seasons (reviewed here).

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Estee Lauder 04 Crystal Baby Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelee Blush is one of the most beautiful color and formulation of highlighters to date.  The overall effect is radiant and sophisticated.  The burning question…Do you need this beauty in your life?  Do BBQ and Fourth of July go-hand-in-hand?  Do birds fly?  Are children and sugar synonymous?   Yes, yes, yes and yes.  Run don’t walk to get this beauty…before it’s gone.  Up next, Vincent Longo Blush review…I blame that wonderful purchase on Olivia from The Unknown Beauty Blog.  Be well, stay safe and be happy.

Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipsticks are amongst my favorite lipstick formulas.  The deep rich color, the longevity, the smell, the amazing adhesion of color to the lips, the moisturizing feel and color selection are perfectly represented by this wonderful collection.  Knowing how much I adore this line, my husband gifted me Estee Lauder 450 Insolent Plum Pure Color Envy Lipstick ($30 USD/ 3.5g).  This beautiful deep plum color would make the perfect summer-time evening color..or in my case, an anytime of year color 🙂

Estee Lauder 450 Insolent Plum Pure Color Envy Lipstick.

Estee Lauder 450 Insolent Plum Pure Color Envy Lipstick applied with a lip brush.

Estee Lauder 450 Insolent Plum is exactly as the name would suggest; this bold complex plum shade is quite pigmented and smooth.  The way the color settles on the lips is almost like second skin.  In all fairness, I have gotten into the habit of exfoliating my lips prior to any lip color application.  I simply run a Salux cloth or my Clarosonic over the lip area every morning to ensure lips are free of any dry/dead skin. A toothbrush would work just as well.

On its own, 450 Insolent Plum lasted 3-4 hours without any feathering/bleeding into fine lines.  When paired with It Cosmetics Your Lips But Better Waterproof Lip Liner Stain (reviewed here), the color lasted 5-6 hours without any eating and minimal drinking.  Also, as the day progressed, the smooth satin finish wore down to a moisturizing matte finish.  Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipsticks are easily comparable in terms of quality, wear and color saturation to Tom Ford Lipsticks, but $19 cheaper.

Should the satin/matte finish not be to your liking, I found Dior Addict Fluid Sticks make the perfect accompaniment to these lipsticks.  The addition of Dior Addict Fluid Stick 893 Trompe L’Oeil (reviewed here) to 450 Insolent Plum creates a great summer-time statement lip; a stylish alternative to the typical red lip.

Despite 450 Insolent Plum’s dark color, this shade is quite versatile depending on what lipliner is used. When paired with It Cosmetics Perfect Red YLBB Waterproof Lip Liner Stain, 450 Insolent Plum takes on a more reddish/berry hue that would most likely suit a variety of skin tones.  This just so happens to be my favorite way to wear 450 Insolent Plum–color me a die-hard red lipstick fan.

Estee Lauder 450 Insolent Plum Pure Color Envy can be found at Nordstrom, Sephora.com, Saks, and anywhere Estee Lauder Cosmetics are sold.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Estee Lauder 450 Insolent Plum Pure Color Envy Lipstick is well worth the investment.  This color may not be to everyone’s liking, but having 21 colors to choose from, makes it easy to find a color to accommodate the most discerning of tastes.  Until next time, be well, stay safe and be happy.

Estee Lauder 210 Impulsive Pure Color Envy Lipstick was an Impulsively Delicious Treat.

Estee Lauder Impulsive Pure Color Envy Lipstick.

Estee Lauder 210 Impulsive Pure Color Envy Lipstick.

I am a big fan of speed shopping.  Before I leave my house, I know exactly what stores to hit and what items to buy–I do not linger.  Such was the case this weekend when I visited one particular cosmetic counter.  Perfume ladies, makeup artists with the promise of “free makeovers” or counter sales associates with their endless “free gifts” could not distract/deter me from purchasing Estee Lauder 210 Impulsive Pure Color Envy Lipstick ($30 USD/ 3.5g).  This tantalizing pink hue was just too darn pretty to resist!

Estee Lauder 210 Implusive

The Pros to Estee Lauder 210 Impulsive Pure Color Envy Lipstick:

  1. Stunning warm pink shade.
  2. Smooth application and wear.
  3. Nice moisturizing formula..lips never felt dry even when the color wore-off.
  4. Opaque formula covers pigmented lips very well.
  5. Wears off evenly without the dreaded ring around the mouth.
  6. Can be worn lightly or heavily depending on your mood.
  7. Color does not feather or bleed into fine lines without a lipliner.
  8. Very comparable in texture to Tom Ford Lipsticks (reviewed here), IMHO these wear better than TF and are $19 cheaper 🙂
  9. Exceptional magnetic closure.
  10. Navy/gold packaging has a nice weight with edges that are smooth and feminine.
  11. Pairs beautifully with MAC Pro Longwear Lipliner in Nice n Spicy for extended wear.
  12. Can be layered nicely over an existing layer without looking and feeling caky.
  13. Delicate brown sugar scent which is imperceptible after 2 minutes.
  14. 21 colors in the line-up.
  15. Formulated without parabens or mineral oil.

The Cons to Estee Lauder 210 Impulsive Pure Color Envy Lipstick:

  1. Lasted three hours on its own.  A long-wearing lip pencil is needed to give this moisturizing formula extended wear.
  2. The lipstick takes on a matte/satin finish with an additional layer (I like the look, some may not).
  3. Incredibly long ingredient list.
  4. No other cons…I love this color.
Estee Lauder 210 Implusive

Estee Lauder 210 Implusive Pure Color Envy Lipstick with MAC Nice N Spicy Lipliner.

Impulsive applies like butter.  This warm pink shade covers my pigmented lips completely and compliments olive and medium skin tones perfectly.  Darker skinned beauties could wear this color with the right lip liner, resembling a more mod lip look (groovy).

The above photos show how Impulsive’s glossy texture changes into more of a satiny finish as the color wears throughout the day.  If I were to have added an additional layer, the color would have resembled a smooth satin/matte finish.  Truth be told, reapplication was a complete pleasure.  The addition of MAC Nice ‘n’ Spicy gave Impulsive a lovely brown undertone that lasted for five hours.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you if you are in the market for a moisturizing, pigmented, smooth, and heavenly formula, then look no further than Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipsticks.  150 Decadent (reviewed here) was just as smooth, but for some reason, I found 210 Impulsive to be more pigmented and have more of a polished feel.  I found the color extremely versatile when paired with a variety of lipliners.  Impulsive was a wonderful find and so appropriate for this time of year.  Spring is definitely in the air and my lips need to dress the part.  Be well and stay safe.

Lime Crime Wicked Velvetine review, photos and comparisons.

Lime Crime Wicked Velvetine.

Lime Crime Wicked Velvetine.

Lime Crime Wicked Velvetine.

Lime Crime Wicked Velvetine.

Lime Crime is known for its vegan friendly and cruelty free products.  Their line of lip products and eyeliners are amongst some of the most colorful items in the industry.  My all time favorite product (and my only product) from the company is Red Velvet Velvetine Lip Stain.  Recently, Lime Crime released three new colors in the Velvetine family: Wicked (burgundy wine), Salem (chocolate-brown), and Black Velvet (straight-up black).  Lime Crime Wicked Velvetine ($20 USD/ 2.6ml) was the color that immediately caught my attention.  Would this burgundy wine stain measure up to my decadent Red Velvet Velvetine?  You’ll see 🙂

The Pros of Lime Crime Wicked Velvetine:

  1. Gorgeous deep burgundy wine color.
  2. Opaque coverage in one swipe.
  3. Thin-medium consistency.
  4. Sweet delicate candy scent..reminiscent of Revlon Color Stay Liquid Lipsticks.
  5. Small amount needed to obtain full opacity..therefore one tube will last awhile.
  6. Paraben and mineral oil free.
  7. Amazing matte finish appears within 20-30 seconds of application.
  8. Pairs beautifully with Shiseido Lacquer Rouge (reviewed here).
  9. Removal is easily achieved with any oil or makeup remover.
  10. Directions for usage are included beneath the ingredient list on the back of the box.

The Cons to Lime Crime Wicked Velvetine:

  1. Wicked’s formula is very dry..I’m talking Sahara Desert Dry–not recommended for more mature lips.
  2. I have not been able to wear Wicked on its own for more than 20 minutes.  A moisturizing product must be applied over Wicked for more comfortable wear, therefore, I cannot speak of its longevity on its own.
  3. Glosses/lip balms (or food) that contain any natural oils or mineral oil will break down the stain.
  4. Slight tacky texture when it sets..some color transfer on cups.
  5. Adding a new layer over an existing layer will result in patchiness and very dry lips.
  6. Price/amount ratio is rather expensive..$20 USD/2.6ml…when compared to Shiseido Lacquer Rouge ($25 USD/6ml).
Lime Crime Wicked Velveteen with Shiseido Lacquer Rouge RD702.

Lime Crime Wicked Velvetine with Shiseido Lacquer Rouge RD702.

My favorite way to wear Wicked is paired with Shiseido RD702.  The two formulas combine beautifully to form a long-wearing, moisturizing and highly pigmented concoction.  The brown tone of RD702, tones down the depth of Wicked, making it more alluring and wearable.  However attractive this duo may appear, this lip combo is not for those who prefer lipsticks with sheer coverage.

My stain/liquid lipstick hybrid concoction lasted 6 hours before I felt an overwhelming urge to remove what was left of my lip color after my meal.  I simply cannot tolerate the feel of faded lipstick on my lips.

Lime Crime Wicked Velveteen with Buxom Kir Royale.

Buxom Lip Color in Kir Royale also paired nicely with Wicked.  However, do be mindful that too much gloss will break down the stain and the color will bleed into fine lines.

Comparison between Red Velvet (old formula) vs. Wicked:

Comparison: Lime Crime Red Velvet and Wicked Velveteen.

Comparison:
Lime Crime Red Velvet and Wicked Velvetine.

My tube of Red Velvet has been used very sparingly for the past three years.  Boxes are kept for reference purposes and/or when I feel it will aid in the preservation of certain products.  I happen to like the design of the older packaging more so than Wicked’s packaging.

Comparison: Lime Crime Red Velvet and Wicked Velvetine.

Comparison:
Lime Crime Red Velvet and Wicked Velvetine.

I adore the thin formulation and applicator head of my Red Velvet.  The fibers on the newer applicator head, are not cut as precisely as the older applicator, therefore, application is a bit more challenging, but not impossible.

Comparison of ingredient lists would reveal Petrolatum and Avocado Oil (possibly responsible for the more comfortable feel) were present in the old formula and removed from the newer formulation.  Personally, I find the older formula more to my liking–it is less drying and more compatible with other lip products.  I am able to wear Estee Lauder Ruby Glow High Intensity Lacquer (reviewed here) with my Red Velvet without any feathering into my fine lines.  However, when Estee Lauder Electric Wine High Intensity Lacquer (seen here) was paired with Wicked, the stain broke down within an hour.  Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipstick (reviewed here) pairs well with Wicked, however the resulting finish is more satin rather than glossy.

Another use for Wicked would be to mix it with your other Velvetine stains.  The above photo contains Red Velvet as the base color and Wicked layered lightly on top.  I happen to think the resulting hue is a perfect balance of depth and brightness.  How comfortable was this pairing, you ask?  More so than if I were to have worn Wicked on its own.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Lime Crime Wicked Velvetine is not for the faint of heart.  Personally, the overly dry texture was an unexpected disappointed, but I have found ways to make Wicked work for me.  I have a weakness for dark lip colors and as the saying goes, “Where there is a will, there is a way.”  For this color, I have found my way.  What colors in the Velvetine line will you get?  Be well and stay safe.

Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipstick 150 Decadent review and photos.

Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy in 150 Decadent.

Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipstick 150 Decadent.

When the word out in the beauty community is that Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipstick ($30 USD/3.5g) can, “transform your lips, your look, your attitude” one tends to stand and take notice.  In my case, one runs down to the nearest Estee Lauder counter to “see” what the hubbub is all about.  After all, the advertising for theses lipsticks features Carolyn Murphy leaving her very expensive penthouse apartment, meeting a mysterious handsome stranger in a bar, all the while, being ogled by an envious woman in the far corner, who wants nothing more than to steal the very lipstick (not the man) that is giving Ms. Murphy all this power.  Let’s not forget Carolyn is 5’8″, gorgeous and probably could get away with doing all that with a bag on top of her head.  Hey ho, but for EL sake, we’ll just go with it.  According to Estee Lauder these lipsticks,

saturate lips with high-intensity color-in one stroke; lips look beautifully shaped, sculpted, curvaceous; lips feel continuously moisturized throughout the day; super creamy, glides on effortlessly, covers evenly; full coverage, 6-hour wear; the first sculpting lipstick; transforms your lips.

Although, I was attracted to many colors in the line, I decided Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipstick 150 Decadent would be a good start to see if our little tube of wonder would lived up to the hype.

The Pros to Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipstick 150 Decadent:

  1. Stunning brown/plum shade.
  2. Smooth application and wear.
  3. Nice moisturizing formula.
  4. Wears off evenly without the dreaded ring around the mouth.
  5. Can be worn lightly or heavily depending on your mood.
  6. Color does not feather or bleed into fine lines without a lipliner.
  7. Very comparable in texture to Tom Ford Lipsticks, IMHO these wear better than TF and are $19 cheaper 🙂
  8. Exceptional magnetic closure.
  9. Navy/gold packaging has a nice weight with edges that are smooth and feminine.
  10. Pairs beautifully with Estee lauder Currant lipliner to deepen the color and extend wear.
  11. Decadent can be layered nicely over an existing layer without looking and feeling caky.
  12. Delicate brown sugar scent which is imperceptible after 2 minutes.
  13. 21 colors in the line-up.
  14. My husband loves this color.  “That is a beautiful rich deep color,” he said 🙂
  15. Formulated without parabens and mineral oil.
Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy in 150 Decadent.

Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipstick 150 Decadent with flash.

The Cons to Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipstick 150 Decadent:

  1. Does not last 6 hours.
  2. I was able to wear Decadent for three hours on its own.  When paired with Currant Lipliner, the color lasted 4-5 hours, depending my lip activity.
  3. Two-three “stoke(s)” are needed to achieve full color saturation.
  4. My lips did not feel dry by the fourth hour, but they did not feel super moisturized either.
  5. Rather expensive for a Lauder lipstick, but I must admit the packaging is worth the extra expense.
  6. My lips were not “sculpted or transformed”.  I’m not entirely sure how lips are suppose to be transformed just by wearing this lipstick.  Yes…I’m poking fun at the advertising jargon.
  7. My attitude also did not change…in fact, I was really sick this week….SEXY!
Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy in 150 Decadent.

Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipstick 150 Decadent with flash.

In person, Decadent has a deeper plum undertone that is very noticeable.  However, in the presence of flash photography, the brown undertones seem to dominate the color.  In the above photo, I applied Decadent on clean lips and then lightly outlined the perimeter of my lips with Estee Lauder Currant Lipliner.

Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy in 150 Decadent.

Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipstick 150 Decadent with Estee Lauder Currant lipliner no flash and sick 🙁

This photo was taken in natural lighting without a flash.  On this day, I decided to first line and fill-in my lips with Estee Lauder Currant lipliner and then apply Decadent on top.  You can see this color is very deep and more of the plum tones are present.

Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy in 150 Decadent.

Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipstick 150 Decadent with Estee Lauder Currant Lipliner after 4 hours no flash.

The two photos above show how much of the lipstick faded in a four-hour time span.  For the record, no eating or drinking took place on this occasion, only copious amounts of talking.  I must admit, despite the dry look of my lips in the second photo, my lips did not feel overly dry.  In fact, I remember checking my lipstick in a mirror, but not feeling the overwhelming need to apply a lip balm to combat dryness.  Applying an additional layer would revitalize the color and appearance of the lips; doing so would not result in the lipstick bleeding into fine lines 🙂

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipstick 150 Decadent is really a wonderful lipstick. Of course, I find the campaign to be a bit over the top, but I can understand Lauder’s desire to attract a new image and clientele.  Will these lipsticks be the envy of every woman who happens to notice your lips? I doubt it.  Personally, my attraction to Decadent, other than the color, is how comfortable it wears throughout the day.  I also like that I can layer this lipstick on an existing layer.  Two enthusiastic thumbs-up to Estee Lauder, for a job well done.  Which colors will you be getting?  Be well and stay safe.

Valentine’s Day Makeup and Lip Combinations.

Valentine's Day Makeup.

Valentine’s Day Makeup.

For this Valentine’s Day Makeup Look, I decided to create a sultry, yet elegant look.  Bobbi Brown Twilight Shimmer Ink Gel Liner (reviewed here) was used as the main “eyeshadow” color.  When paired with Nars Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base (reviewed here), this eye look will undoubtedly last the entirety of the evening, no matter what surprises await 🙂  I hope you find this helpful.

Step 1: Valentine Day Makeup Looks.

Step 1:
Valentine’s Day Makeup.

Start by prepping the eye area with Nars Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base.  Fill in the brows with your favorite brow product.  I used Shu Uemura Brow Pencil in 02 Seal Brown (seen here).

Step 2: Valentine Day Makeup Looks.

Step 2:
Valentine’s Day Makeup.

Take an angled brush (I used Billy B #12 Brush (reviewed here)…the best for this job) with Bobbi Brown Gel Liner in Twilight Shimmer Ink and line the upper lash line.  Smudge the liner upwardly, extending the line outwardly, to create an outer flick (you will use this as a guide when applying your black liquid liner).

Step 3: Valentine Day Makeup Looks.

Step 3:
Valentine’s Day Makeup.

Continue to add as much color until you have reached your desired intensity.  Apply the color in a wedge-like shape; thinner toward the inner corner and gradually thickening the color towards the outer corner.

Step 4: Valentine Day Makeup Looks.

Step 4:
Valentine’s Day Makeup Look.

Blend out any harsh lines with Clarins Alburn Mineral Eyeshadow and place the same color in the crease. Next, Bobbi Brown Navajo Eyeshadow is used to blend out the edges of the crease color and “highlight” the brow bone.  To give the look a more gradient effect, Clarins Dark Chocolate, is applied to the outer “v”. Use a Q-Tip, dipped in lotion or makeup remover, and run it along the ends of the eye, to clean-up and shape the edge of the outer flick.

Step 5: Valentine Day Makeup Looks.

Step 5:
Valentine’s Day Makeup.

Prior to mascara application, line the upper waterline (tight line) with your favorite liner.  I swear by Inglot #90, this dark brown liner does not budge throughout the day (for me, black is too harsh).

Step 6: Valentine Day Makeup Look.

Step 6:
Valentine’s Day Makeup.

Add your favorite black liner and favorite mascara (curl your lashes if you prefer); I used Tom Ford Eye Defining Pen (reviewed here) and L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara (does flake but gives amazing length). Laura Mercier Ritual Bronzer mixed with Cargo Water Resistant Bronzer is used to line the lower lash line. Line the lower waterline with MAC Rich Ground Gel Liner.

Valentine Day Makeup: Lip Combination 1: Shiseido RD203 with MAC Prolong Wear Lip Pencil in Nice n Spicy.

Valentine’s Day Makeup:
Lip Combination 1: Shiseido RD203 with MAC Prolong Wear Lip Pencil in Nice n Spicy.

This lip combination is for those who prefer a nude lip.  I have made mention of MAC Prolong Wear Lip Pencils’ fabulousness from the beginning 🙂  These pencils magically transform many lipstick into long wearing colors.  When paired with Shiseido Lacquer Rouge (reviewed here), the combination is unbeatable.

Valentine Day Makeup Look: Lip Combination 2: Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Hyde Park.

Valentine’s Day Makeup:
Lip Combination 2: Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Hyde Park.

This lip color is for those who seek a no-fuss lipstick.  Nars Satin Lip Pencils are perfect to throw into a small handbag for on the go touch-ups.  These lipsticks-in-pencil-form are so convenient to use; however, do make certain to sharpen your lip color before you leave.  A dull point completely defeats the purpose of these pencils.  I prefer Slice Cosmetics Sharpener (reviewed here).

Valentine Day Makeup Look: Lip Combination 3: Lime Crime Velveteen in Red Velvet topped with Estee Lauder Ruby Glow High Intensity Lip Lacquer.

Valentine’s Day Makeup:
Lip Combination 3: Lime Crime Red Velvet Velveteen topped with Estee Lauder Ruby Glow High Intensity Lip Lacquer.

This lip combination will attract some serious attention.  Lime Crime Red Velvet Velveteen  is a bright cool tone red that dries downs to a long lasting matte velvet finish.  Estee Lauder Ruby Glow High Intensity Lip Lacquer (reviewed here) provides shine, moisture, depth and dimension.  As with all glosses, a light hand is highly recommended to avoid feathering into fine lines.

Valentine Day Makeup Look: Lip 2: MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Kiss Me Quick.

Valentine’s Day Makeup:
Lip 4: MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Kiss Me Quick.

This pretty and simple lip color would suit those who prefer a matte finish.  MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Kiss Me Quick is a beautiful cool tone red, with a creamy texture and amazing lasting power. However, lips do become quite dry, a lip balm would be highly recommended.

Valentine Day Makeup Look: Lip Combination 4: MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Kiss Me Quick with Estee Lauder Electric Wine High Intensity Lip Lacquer.

Valentine’s Day Makeup:
Lip Combination 5: MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Kiss Me Quick with Estee Lauder Electric Wine High Intensity Lip Lacquer.

Now this my friends, is a stop-you-in-your-tracks-va-va-va-voom lip combo.  The purple undertone of Twilight Shimmer Ink pairs perfectly with the strong wine tone of Estee Lauder Electric Wine High Intensity Lip Lacquer.  This look, felt very reminiscent of the 20’s; all that was needed was a flapper dress, a long pearl necklace, and some opera gloves.  I draw the line at the bobbed hair and cloche hat 🙂  What a difference a lip color can make.

  2. Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation in 3N1 Ivory Beige (here).
  3. Estee Lauder Double Wear Maximum Cover Foundation in Creamy Vanilla used as a concealer.  Use the tiniest dot for both eyes…very concentrated.
  4. MAC Prep+Prime Highlighter in Rose Radiance (purchase here).

  6. Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush in 10 Beige (reviewed here).

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you this sultry look can easily be adapted to suit your mood and comfort level.  Keep in mind, to substitute your products/colors as you see fit.  Which look do you prefer?  Better yet, which one will you wear?  I wish you all a happy and memorable Valentine’s Day.  Be well and stay safe.

Makeup of the Week Tenth Edition.

Makeup of the Week Tenth Edition.

This week I was inspired to create a classic eye look using three shadows.  Typically, I wear one color across the lid and call it a day.  I am always a tad reluctant to apply too many colors on my lids.  My ample lid space can quickly become overwhelmed and start to resemble a finger painting gone awry.  The general rule for using three colors, is to pick shades in the same color family with different levels of intensity (light, medium and dark).  Enjoy!

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you this simple and classic look can be worn anytime and anywhere.   I have worn this look to weddings, school functions, to the park, and recently to see Spiderman on Broadway.  Whatever you decide to do while sporting this chic look, I sincerely hope you will have the time of your life.  As always, be well and stay safe.

Makeup of the Week Ninth Edition.

This week’s look was fast and easy using minimal products (for me at least).  The theme for the week was rediscovery; to use forgotten products within my collection.  Usually I’m pretty good at deciphering what will work for me in the long run and what will end-up in my “donation basket.”  However, it is wise to try to use these products again before discarding them or giving them away. Absence does make the heart grow fonder, thus making the reunion that much sweeter 🙂  Enjoy!

  1. Laura Mercier Eye Canvas in EC-3 used as a base (reviewed here).
  2. MAC Mineralized Skinfinish Natural used as a base color (purchase here).
  3. Shu Uemura Tokyo Lights Palette (reviewed here) W2 on a dampened brush for the upper and lower lash line (discontinued) Ebay purchase (here).
  4. Clinique True Black Cream Liner on the upper lash line (seen here).
  5. Inglot #90 AMC Gel Liner on the upper and lower waterline (purchased here).
  6. MAC Pressed Amber Mineralized Blush for a crease color (discontinued). Ebay purchase (here).
  7. Mary Kay Lash Love Lengthening Mascara (reviewed here).

Face Makeup of the Week:

  1. Estee lauder Double Wear Foundation (seen here).
  2. Estee Lauder Maximun Coverage Foundation (purchase here) used as a concealer only on the inner most under eye area (not across the entire under eye area…too drying).
  3. Burberry Sheer Summer Glow Palette (Bronzer sides only) used as a bronzer. Really dislike the lighter shades and fragrance, but the bronzer colors and packaging are beautiful (discontinued). Just for fun, check out how much this palette costs on Ebay (here).
  4. Chanel Destiny (61) and Inspiration (64) mixed together for blush (reviewed here and here).
  5. MAC Too Chic Beauty Powder (purchase here) used as a Highlighter (discontinued).
  6. Skindinavia Finishing Spray (purchase here).

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you as time passes your perceptions and taste will change.  Products that may not have worked for you in the past should be given another chance.  You never know, you may find a new use for them in your present routine.  I rediscovered Burberry Summer Glow Palette’s bronzer half worked perfectly with my current coloring.  Edward Bess Luxury Eye Brush head is a bit too big to use as a sole eyeshadow brush, but I rediscovered its magical ability to blend out any color to perfection.  MAC Too Chic Beauty Powder imparts a flattering subtle golden highlight color, appropriate for a daytime chic makeup look.  What have you rediscovered in your stash lately?  Be well and stay safe.
