Valentine’s Day Makeup and Lip Combinations.

Valentine's Day Makeup.

Valentine’s Day Makeup.

For this Valentine’s Day Makeup Look, I decided to create a sultry, yet elegant look.  Bobbi Brown Twilight Shimmer Ink Gel Liner (reviewed here) was used as the main “eyeshadow” color.  When paired with Nars Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base (reviewed here), this eye look will undoubtedly last the entirety of the evening, no matter what surprises await 🙂  I hope you find this helpful.

Step 1: Valentine Day Makeup Looks.

Step 1:
Valentine’s Day Makeup.

Start by prepping the eye area with Nars Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base.  Fill in the brows with your favorite brow product.  I used Shu Uemura Brow Pencil in 02 Seal Brown (seen here).

Step 2: Valentine Day Makeup Looks.

Step 2:
Valentine’s Day Makeup.

Take an angled brush (I used Billy B #12 Brush (reviewed here)…the best for this job) with Bobbi Brown Gel Liner in Twilight Shimmer Ink and line the upper lash line.  Smudge the liner upwardly, extending the line outwardly, to create an outer flick (you will use this as a guide when applying your black liquid liner).

Step 3: Valentine Day Makeup Looks.

Step 3:
Valentine’s Day Makeup.

Continue to add as much color until you have reached your desired intensity.  Apply the color in a wedge-like shape; thinner toward the inner corner and gradually thickening the color towards the outer corner.

Step 4: Valentine Day Makeup Looks.

Step 4:
Valentine’s Day Makeup Look.

Blend out any harsh lines with Clarins Alburn Mineral Eyeshadow and place the same color in the crease. Next, Bobbi Brown Navajo Eyeshadow is used to blend out the edges of the crease color and “highlight” the brow bone.  To give the look a more gradient effect, Clarins Dark Chocolate, is applied to the outer “v”. Use a Q-Tip, dipped in lotion or makeup remover, and run it along the ends of the eye, to clean-up and shape the edge of the outer flick.

Step 5: Valentine Day Makeup Looks.

Step 5:
Valentine’s Day Makeup.

Prior to mascara application, line the upper waterline (tight line) with your favorite liner.  I swear by Inglot #90, this dark brown liner does not budge throughout the day (for me, black is too harsh).

Step 6: Valentine Day Makeup Look.

Step 6:
Valentine’s Day Makeup.

Add your favorite black liner and favorite mascara (curl your lashes if you prefer); I used Tom Ford Eye Defining Pen (reviewed here) and L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara (does flake but gives amazing length). Laura Mercier Ritual Bronzer mixed with Cargo Water Resistant Bronzer is used to line the lower lash line. Line the lower waterline with MAC Rich Ground Gel Liner.

Valentine’s Day Lip Combinations:

Valentine Day Makeup: Lip Combination 1: Shiseido RD203 with MAC Prolong Wear Lip Pencil in Nice n Spicy.

Valentine’s Day Makeup:
Lip Combination 1: Shiseido RD203 with MAC Prolong Wear Lip Pencil in Nice n Spicy.

This lip combination is for those who prefer a nude lip.  I have made mention of MAC Prolong Wear Lip Pencils’ fabulousness from the beginning 🙂  These pencils magically transform many lipstick into long wearing colors.  When paired with Shiseido Lacquer Rouge (reviewed here), the combination is unbeatable.

Valentine Day Makeup Look: Lip Combination 2: Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Hyde Park.

Valentine’s Day Makeup:
Lip Combination 2: Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Hyde Park.

This lip color is for those who seek a no-fuss lipstick.  Nars Satin Lip Pencils are perfect to throw into a small handbag for on the go touch-ups.  These lipsticks-in-pencil-form are so convenient to use; however, do make certain to sharpen your lip color before you leave.  A dull point completely defeats the purpose of these pencils.  I prefer Slice Cosmetics Sharpener (reviewed here).

Valentine Day Makeup Look: Lip Combination 3: Lime Crime Velveteen in Red Velvet topped with Estee Lauder Ruby Glow High Intensity Lip Lacquer.

Valentine’s Day Makeup:
Lip Combination 3: Lime Crime Red Velvet Velveteen topped with Estee Lauder Ruby Glow High Intensity Lip Lacquer.

This lip combination will attract some serious attention.  Lime Crime Red Velvet Velveteen  is a bright cool tone red that dries downs to a long lasting matte velvet finish.  Estee Lauder Ruby Glow High Intensity Lip Lacquer (reviewed here) provides shine, moisture, depth and dimension.  As with all glosses, a light hand is highly recommended to avoid feathering into fine lines.

Valentine Day Makeup Look: Lip 2: MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Kiss Me Quick.

Valentine’s Day Makeup:
Lip 4: MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Kiss Me Quick.

This pretty and simple lip color would suit those who prefer a matte finish.  MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Kiss Me Quick is a beautiful cool tone red, with a creamy texture and amazing lasting power. However, lips do become quite dry, a lip balm would be highly recommended.

Valentine Day Makeup Look: Lip Combination 4: MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Kiss Me Quick with Estee Lauder Electric Wine High Intensity Lip Lacquer.

Valentine’s Day Makeup:
Lip Combination 5: MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Kiss Me Quick with Estee Lauder Electric Wine High Intensity Lip Lacquer.

Now this my friends, is a stop-you-in-your-tracks-va-va-va-voom lip combo.  The purple undertone of Twilight Shimmer Ink pairs perfectly with the strong wine tone of Estee Lauder Electric Wine High Intensity Lip Lacquer.  This look, felt very reminiscent of the 20’s; all that was needed was a flapper dress, a long pearl necklace, and some opera gloves.  I draw the line at the bobbed hair and cloche hat 🙂  What a difference a lip color can make.

  1. Koh Gen Do Makeup Color Base in Yellow (reviewed here).
  2. Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation in 3N1 Ivory Beige (here).

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you this sultry look can easily be adapted to suit your mood and comfort level.  Keep in mind, to substitute your products/colors as you see fit.  Which look do you prefer?  Better yet, which one will you wear?  I wish you all a happy and memorable Valentine’s Day.  Be well and stay safe.

Makeup of the Week Tenth Edition.

Makeup of the Week Tenth Edition.

Makeup of the Week Tenth Edition.

This week I was inspired to create a classic eye look using three shadows.  Typically, I wear one color across the lid and call it a day.  I am always a tad reluctant to apply too many colors on my lids.  My ample lid space can quickly become overwhelmed and start to resemble a finger painting gone awry.  The general rule for using three colors, is to pick shades in the same color family with different levels of intensity (light, medium and dark).  Enjoy!

Makeup of the Week: Light: MAC Too Chic Medium: Clarins Auburn. Dark: Clarins Dark Chocolate.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you this simple and classic look can be worn anytime and anywhere.   I have worn this look to weddings, school functions, to the park, and recently to see Spiderman on Broadway.  Whatever you decide to do while sporting this chic look, I sincerely hope you will have the time of your life.  As always, be well and stay safe.

Makeup of the Week Ninth Edition.

Makeup of the Week Ninth Edition.

Makeup of the Week Ninth Edition.

This week’s look was fast and easy using minimal products (for me at least).  The theme for the week was rediscovery; to use forgotten products within my collection.  Usually I’m pretty good at deciphering what will work for me in the long run and what will end-up in my “donation basket.”  However, it is wise to try to use these products again before discarding them or giving them away. Absence does make the heart grow fonder, thus making the reunion that much sweeter 🙂  Enjoy!

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you as time passes your perceptions and taste will change.  Products that may not have worked for you in the past should be given another chance.  You never know, you may find a new use for them in your present routine.  I rediscovered Burberry Summer Glow Palette’s bronzer half worked perfectly with my current coloring.  Edward Bess Luxury Eye Brush head is a bit too big to use as a sole eyeshadow brush, but I rediscovered its magical ability to blend out any color to perfection.  MAC Too Chic Beauty Powder imparts a flattering subtle golden highlight color, appropriate for a daytime chic makeup look.  What have you rediscovered in your stash lately?  Be well and stay safe.

Top Ten Makeup Repurchases.

Top Ten Makeup Repurchases.

Top Ten Makeup Repurchases.

In a sea of cosmetics goods, what products truly stand out as being worthy of repurchase?  Taking a cue from the Pinksith, I decided to put my spin on her top ten series by posting my Top Ten Makeup Repurchases.  These products have proven to work well for me and have become a part of my daily routine.  The first installment will be on makeup repurchases, followed by skincare, and lastly nail care. Needless to say, everyone will have a difference of opinion based on personal experiences.  I hope you find this helpful.

Top Ten Makeup Repurchases:

Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation.

1.  Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation:  (purchase here) I enjoy all of the Estee Lauder foundations, which is odd considering I have extremely dry skin. I have gone through three bottles of DW, two DW Light, and currently one Maximum Cover (will last a lifetime considering only a dot is needed).  I find all the formulas to work if the skin is well moisturized prior to application and if minimal product is used. This foundation lasts all day and coupled with a dampened synthetic brush (I prefer a brush over the beauty blender) will give you a flawless finish.

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer.

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer.

2.  Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer:  (purchase here)  I have gone through three bottles of this primer in the past three years.  Very little product is required for this light-weight formula to work its magic.  Veil Mineral is essential in the summer months.

Bioderma Makeup Remover.

Bioderma Makeup Remover.

3.  Bioderma Makeup Remover:  (purchase here) I am aware this is not makeup, however a makeup remover is just as important as the makeup we put on our faces.  I use this on a pointed Q-Tip during makeup application to gently remove any mistakes and to give a sharp edge to my eyeliner.  I appall the price of this remover, but admittedly it is one of the best.  Bioderma has a non-greasy, non-irritating, fragrance-free, non-rinse formula.  I have tried Vichy’s 3-in-1 version of the miscellaire formula and it does not compare.  Ordering from a reputable site is always advised.  Beautyhabit.com (here) also sells Bioderma.  I acquire mine (five bottles later) from a pharmacy in NYC.

Red lipstick.

Red lipstick.

4.  Red Lipstick:  This was a toss up between lipsticks and highlighters.  Since I have over twenty red lipsticks and ten highlighters in my collection, the red lipsticks were the obvious winners.  Generally speaking I repurchase red lipsticks over and over again from every brand.  As stated in my Estee Lauder Ruby Glow review (here), the right red can brighten up the sallowest complexion.  Red lips yield a minimal sophisticated look: mascara, blush, bronzer and a dynamite red…DONE!

L'Oreal Telescopic Mascara.

L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara.

5.  L’Oreal Telescopic Masacra:  (purchase here) I should receive a share in the company’s stocks based on the countless tubes  I have consumed and recommended.  I love the small brush, long handle and the defining and lengthening aspect of this mascara. Telescopic does flake on me a bit by the end of the day, but you cannot beat the price, availability, and performance of this staple.  Mary Kay Lash Love Lengthening Mascara (reviewed here) has since replaced this gem, but I will always recommend L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara as a drugstore favorite.

Inglot AMC Gel Eyeliner.

Inglot AMC Gel Eyeliner.

6.  Inglot AMC Gel Liners:  (purchase here) If you have not tried these liners, what are you waiting for?  The formula is highly pigmented and the staying powder is unsurpassed (especially for the upper waterline).  I have gone through 2 pots of the #90 Matte Brown and prefer it over the #77 Black.  I find the #77 Black troublesome to remove at night and if applied to the corners of the upper lash line, it does tend to smudge.  The price/amount ratio is also a very attractive feature ($12 US/5.5 g) compared to higher-end brands.

Clinique True Black cream liner.

Clinique True Black cream liner.

7.  Clinique True Black Cream Liner:  (purchase here) This little guy is the creamiest and blackest gel liner (other than AMC) I have found that lasts all day on my peepers.  Two pots later, I still stand by the claim it surpasses Bobbi Brown Black Gel Liner and MAC Blacktrack Fluidline.

MAC Prep-n-Prime Lip.

MAC Prep-n-Prime Lip.

8.  MAC Prep-n-Primer Lip:  (purchased here) Contrary to what the sale associates say at the MAC counters, there is a proper way to use this product.  When I first purchased Prep-n-Prime Lip I dismissed it as just an over-priced lip balm.  Until, I left it on for longer than normal (5 minutes) and then applied my lip color.  I discovered the slight tacky texture, held on to the lip color longer and really did prevent my lipstick from bleeding out into my fine lines. Two tubes later, I cannot wear red lipstick/gloss without this primer.

EOS lip balm.

EOS Lip Balm.

9.  EOS Lip Balm:  (purchase here) The packaging of this little macaroon is fun and easily distinguishable in an overloaded handbag.  I use the EOS balm before I apply a matte formula lipstick, before I go to bed, for my children and even my husband keeps one in his car (the blue one of course).  You can now find a pack of five at Costcos.  The 100% natural, 95% organic claim far surpasses Chapstick which is comprised of some of the most unnatural ingredients on the market.  This is my choice of “lipstick” in the afternoon and evening time.  How many have I gone through?…I lost count.

Favorite Lipliners.

Favorite Lipliners.

10.  Lipliners:  If you are ahead in the age category, a lipliner is a must.  They prevent your lipstick from bleeding into your fine lines and help prolong the wear of your lipstick.  I prefer MAC Prolong Wear formula, MAC Creamstick formula, and Dior Lipliner formula.  When I visit a CCO, I make it a point to stock-up on the Prolong wear pencils (if they have my color).

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you to find products that work and stick to them for as long as possible.  My Top Ten Makeup Repurchases have been in my makeup vault for the last three years.  My mother on the other hand, has used the same hairspray for the past forty years…yikes, forty years of brand loyalty…that’s crazy talk.  What are your favorites?  Be well and stay safe.

Makeup of the Week Eighth Edition.

Makeup of the Week Eighth Edition.

This has been a very busy week.  My children started school and that in it of itself is always stressful.  The silver lining in this scenario is, I have gained some much needed time to myself.  I had time to carefully apply my makeup without any interruptions, it’s the little things in life that make me happy.  Admittedly, I do miss my eldest son’s commentaries and photographic assistance.

This week’s look was centered around my lashes.  Truthfully, I never gave them much thought, until Mary Kay Lash Love Lengthening Mascara came into my life.  The delivery of zero flaking, no clumps, no stiffness all wrapped-up in a lightweight formula was enough for me to declare, love at first application!  I hope you find this post helpful.

Makeup would tell you if you have some time to yourself, do what brings you the most joy.  Just think in a year from now, events/people/things which gave us the most stress presently, will be a fleeting memory.  A lesson I remind myself of everyday.  Don’t sweat the small stuff and try to appreciate all the positive fortune surrounding you. It’s there I promise.  Be well and stay safe.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would reveal this makeup look took no time to put together.  Try to utilize multi-purpose products if time is of the essence in the morning.  Gel liners work beautifully as cream eyeshadows, bronzer can be used for crease color/eyeshadow, and lipstick could also take on the role of blusher.   Learn to be creative with the use of your cosmetics to suit your life style.  You may come up with unique one-of-a-kind colors, and save money to boot.  Of course in my case, this only leads me to spend more money to see if I can duplicate my success.  Oh well…every theory has it’s flaws 🙂  Be well and stay safe.

In lieu of my Makeup of the Week I decided to update you all on my Current Makeup Favorites.  I hope you find this helpful and informative. **click on each item for a direct link to the product.

Base Makeup:

  1. Dr. Mercola Facial Sunscreen SPF 30:   The absolute best natural sunscreen.  I do not wear commercial sunscreen because I cannot tolerate the odor and the plethora of chemicals in the formula.  However, Dr. Mercola’s all natural line of sun protection products cannot be beat.  This is especially ideal for those with sensitive skin.
  2. Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer:  I really appreciate this primer in the summer.  It evens out your skintone and really does prolong the wear of your foundation.
  3. Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation:  Foundations come and go but EL Double Wear is my HG foundation.  This guy never lets me down, the longevity and finish cannot compare.  Apply EL Double Wear on well moisturized skin, with a damp brush/sponge and blend to perfection.  I love all of their  foundations.
  4. Edward Bess Concealer:  As of late, I had to revert back to wearing concealer and EB is one of my favorites.  I had the pleasure of meeting Edward at Bergdorf and he was just as lovely as he appears on TV; a true Southern Gentleman!

Eye Makeup:

  1. Laura Mercier Eye Canvas:  Great base for eyeshadows (reviewed here).
  2. MAC Mineralized Skinfinish Natural in Medium Plus:  I use this as an all over eyeshadow to even out my skin tone on my lids.  On occasion, I do use this on my face to set my face makeup.
  3. MAC Powerchrome Eye Pencils: Copper Strip (reviewed here) and Life’s Luxury (reviewed here).
  4. Prestige Total Intensity Eyeshadow in Wicked: (reviewed here).
  5. Clinique True Black cream eyeliner:  Wonderfully black, smooth, long lasting and relatively inexpensive for a high end brand.
  6. Inglot #89 Matte AMC Eyeliner Gel:  The only color/formula that will last on my upper waterline for tight lining purposes.
  7. L’Oreal Telescpic Mascara and Prestige My Blackest Lash Mascara:  The L’Oreal is for lengthening and Prestige is for giving volume.  Both can be found in any drugstore.
  8. Shu Uemura Eyebrow pencil in Seal Brown 02:  A naturally flattering color for my dark brows.

Face Makeup:

  1. Laura Mercier Ritual Bronzer Blush:  One of the best bronzer to have come out this year.  It was limited edition and is sold out online.  Check your local Sephora locations and LM counters for availability (reviewed here).
  2. Laura Mercier Highlight 01:  Beautiful neutral colored highlighter that can be used wet or dry (reviewed here).
  3. Bobbi Brown Pale Pink blush:  This color is universally flattering on everyone.  It is matte and extremely long lasting.  BB has one of the best blush formulas around.
  4. MAC Sweet As Cocoa:  Rosey Bronze blush can also be used to deepen a matte bronzer, as an eyeshadow, and a blend out color (reviewed here).
  5. Skindinavia Finishing Spray:  Admittedly, I do not use many finishing powders in the summer time.  I do use this spray to prolong the wear of my bronzer and blush and to help meld all the colors together on my face.

Lip Makeup:

  1. Daliia Lip Stain in Runway Fashion Fuchsia:  Love the naturalness, longevity, color, and wear of this lip stain.  I may have to pick up another one (reviewed here).  My Best Friend’s Red lip stain is next on the list.
  2. Dior Addict Lipstick:  These are wonderfully creamy and smooth.  They will not dry out your lips and last nicely paired with a long lasting lipliner  (reviewed here).
  3. Shiseido Rouge Lacquer Liquid Lipsticks:  The best liquid lipstick I have found, they do not contain any fragance or flavoring, long lasting, wears off evenly and pairs beautifully with Daliia’s lips stain; will not cause it to break down or bleed into your fine lines.

Makeup Bag:

  1. Tory Burch Makeup Bag:   A wonderful addition to my makeup family.  This bag is roomy enough to fit all of your essentials and more.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you to invest in products you know you will use and love.  Do not be a moth to the makeup flame, stick to what works.  Now, if only I would take my own advise 🙂   To be continued….with current brush favorites.  Be well and stay safe.

MOTW: Makeup of the Week fifth edition.

Makeup of the week fifth edition.

Makeup of the week fifth edition.

This week has been fun and exciting.  Here in the Americas, we celebrated our nation’s independence.  My personal highlight was spending time with family we do not get to see often.  Did I wear makeup on a hot, muggy, and humid Fourth of July?  Yup…You Betcha. Did my makeup look flawless at the end of the day? Not even this makeup maven could battle the forces of sweaty pores at their optimum levels.  This Makeup of the Week fifth edition, is a tribute to the war paint that was strategically applied in the morning and shamelessly vanquished in the evening.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you to always look your best even when the circumstances are stacked against you.  As Coco Chanel once said,

Elegance is refusal.

I refuse to let meteorological conditions, exhaustion, children or animal ever stop me from looking and feeling my best. Refusal to accept anything but the best for yourself is always the order of the day; a little “makeup” for your soul.  Be well and stay safe.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you to relax and enjoy the warmer, stress-free months of summer and not worry so much about makeup.  Of course, when you have a treasure trove of goodies at your disposal, that could be difficult.  Do I want to go the simple route?  YES…I wake up every morning and chant, “I will not wear makeup today, I will not wear makeup today….”  However, something comes over me and the self-imposed command is quickly obliterated….”HELP, I NEED HELP!!!!”  Nah…I need a larger vanity.  Be well, cool and stay safe.

Foundation, Foundation…Wherefore art thou Foundation? Foundation Selection Guide.

IMG_4184

Wearing Estee Lauder Maximum Cover #03 mixed with Koh Gen Do #123

Foundation.. you illusive and bewitching siren!!!   You can bedazzle the human mind, heart and soul!!  Oh how I long for you in my life but alas…shade, formulation, and brand confound me!  What am I to do?  Oh stop begin so dramatic!!!  If it is an answer if you seek, you shall receive it…if you are open to its arrival!!  WOW!!!!   Add philosopher to my list of things that I can DO!!  Foundation is not as mysterious as one might imagine.

Foundation selection Guide

#1:  SPEND THE BULK OF YOUR BEAUTY BUDGET ON YOUR FOUNDATION!!!

DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE WORDS THAT ARE COMING FROM MY COMPUTER?  Refrain from purchasing drugstore foundation.  Why?  Good question.  Firstly,  you cannot test the color and formulation in the drugstore.  Secondly, the level of pigment in drugstore foundations (more water less color) are not on par with higher end brands.  Thirdly, some drugstore cosmetics manufactures do not list their ingredients on the bottles/compacts.  This can be problematic if you have skin sensitivities.  The saying,  “you get what you pay for” applies in this case.

#2:  GO TO A LOCATION WHERE SAMPLES ARE GIVEN!!!

Your best friend in this category is Sephora!  They do not carry all high-end brands, but the friendly service and patience their employees exude, is priceless!   They will spend as much time as you deem necessary on making samples for you to take home.  Sephora will happily accommodate any of your requests, without the added pressure to make additional purchases.  Department stores sales associates are a bit more ambiguous and are limited to the counter brand they are working for at that moment.  Their goal is to make a sale; they will try to persuaded you to purchase something else.  STAND YOUR GROUND….be gracious, get your sample and leave!

#3:  BUY THE HIGHEST COVERAGE AND/OR LONGEST LASTING FORMULA!!!!

You have read correctly!!  These types of foundations are very versatile.  What is the point to a tinted moisturizer when you can make one yourself?   How you ask?  Take your high coverage,  long-lasting foundation and/or a bronzing liquid (Dr.  Hauschka Translucent Bronze Concentrate) and mix it with your favorite moisturizer.  On really bad skin days, high coverage formulas can be sheered down next to nothing on the skin, yet still give wonderful coverage.  The secret is to use a slightly damp sponge (Beauty Blender) or a slightly damp brush (philosophy airbrush brush) and use stippling and swirling motions.  The results are amazing.  As an added bonus,  you will only utilize a small amount due to the high pigment and viscosity!  Who wouldn’t want that?

IMG_4173

Very high coverage long-lasting formulas:                  Estee Lauder Maximum Coverage #03 creamy vanilla, old packaging
Koh Gen Do #123,
Estee Lauder Double Wear #3N1 (summer shade)

IMG_4182

Estee Lauder MC #03 and KGD #123.  EL gives KGD  better longevity.  This will cover my whole face!

#4:  MATCH YOUR FACE TO YOUR NECK!!!!

Our necks are naturally shielded from the sun by our heads.  The majority of women have lighter necks/darker faces.   The opposite can occur if you are a sunscreen devotee; which will result in a darker neck/lighter face scenario.   Regardless, do not try to cover your neck with a darker/lighter foundation, on the contrary, cover your face with the same shade as your neck!!  The results will be more natural and you will have a more uniformed look.  Test your respective foundation by swatching it on the side your neck (bringing it up slightly onto the jaw); not your cheek, backs of your hands, fingers, or arms.  Sometimes you need to mix two colors to achieve your ideal shade or consistency.  Once you’ve mastered your neck coloring you can victoriously declare a winner!!

IMG_4167

From left to right on bare skin: Estee Lauder Maximum Coverage #03 Creamy Vanilla,
Koh Gen Do Moisture Foundation #123
Estee Lauder Double Wear 3N1 (old formula).

#5:  DO NOT BELIEVE CERTAIN FORMULAS CAN DO IT ALL!!!

If the long-lasting feature conjures up images of cracking skin, then by all means stick to cream formulas which have higher coverage and are moisturizing (Eve Pearl).  BB creams, CC creams, DD creams EE creams…any alphabet cream, are just creams with foundation mixed into them.  They claim to have all the benefits of your sunscreen, moisturizer, foundation, primer, etc…all rolled up into one product.   You can go that route, however, these will not give you much coverage and color matching is challenging.  Most likely you will still need an additional layer of foundation.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you, work on perfecting your canvas and the rest will follow!!!

The wrong formulation and shade can have adverse effects, in the form of break-outs and what I like to call,  bobble head syndrome (line of demarcation separating the jaw and neck line).  So 1983!!!   Use these suggestions as a guide to selecting your foundation.  When you find the right formula you will proclaim you have found your equivalent to Romeo and rejoice, “Did my heart love till now? forswear it, sight! For I ne’er saw true beauty till this night.”  Oh Shakespeare you romantic fiend, you do have a way with words!!   Adieu my lovelies!   Be well and stay safe.
