Kjaer Weis Divine and Magnetic Eyeshadows review and swatches.

Kjaer Weis Divine and Magnetic

Kjaer Weis Divine and Magnetic Eyeshadows.

Personally, natural cosmetics are the Crudités at a dinner party; you know they are good for you, but the presentation (packaging) and the taste (performance) leaves something to be desired.  There is no denying the rise in demand for more naturally based beauty products; however, the majority of those cosmetics are underwhelming to say the least–that is until, Kjaer Weis Divine and Magnetic Eyeshadows ($45 USD for compact and shadow/ 1.2g) came into my life.  These two little darlings not only changed the way I perceived natural cosmetics, but their performance and outstanding presentation could easily rival their chemically derived competitors.  According to KW website:

Kjær Weis is a visionary and forward thinking cosmetics line created by Danish-born, New York-based makeup artist Kirsten Kjær Weis. It’s a brand that recognizes health and beauty equally.

“Ultimately what I wanted to achieve was an alternative that fused beautiful color, texture and design with organic non-harmful formulas. I think it’s the way forward.”

Kjaer Weis

Kjaer Weis Magnetic and Divine Eyeshadow swatches.

The Pros to Kjaer Weis Divine and Magnetic Eyeshadows:

  1. Divine is a gorgeous deep gray that applies sheerly, but easily builds up to the deepest hue (as seen in the swatches).
  2. Magnetic is a golden brown color which is quite pigmented from the get-go.  It makes an amazing all over lid color and melds beautifully in the crease for added depth and dimension.
  3. Soft satin finish is quite flattering on all skins.
  4. Smooth texture applies like butter and instantly binds to the skin.
  5. No color fallout–YAY!
  6. When worn over a primer (Nars), both colors lasted 12 hours without any fading.
  7. All KW products can be purchased in refillable form to be placed in a palette of one’s choosing.
  8. Their “refillable system” is a cost-effective way to save on the overall expense and unnecessary packaging.
  9. Extraordinary hefty metal magnetic compact swivels open (full circle).  The white KW enameled logo is unique amongst any brand.
  10. NO artificial ingredients, such as petroleum, parabens, artificial coloring and fragrance, petrochemical emulsifiers.
  11. “A minimum 70% of the [ingredients] comes from organic farming.”
  12. Some of the ingredients include:  “Bamboo: Rich in natural silicone, extremely important in the synthesis of collagen in the connective tissue.
Honeysuckle Extract: Antibacterial, nature’s own preservative.
    Gardenia Florida Extract: Antioxidant.”
  13. NOT tested on animals.
  14. Made in Italy.

The Cons to Kjaer Weis Divine and Magnetic Eyeshadows:

  1. Despite the amazing packaging, the single compact format is not the most practical for travel–I would have preferred a quad compact offering instead.
  2. Compact is a fingerprint magnet.  For the price, a soft cleaning cloth/pouch could have been included.
  3. Due to the soft nature of the formula, powder kick-up is inevitable.  Do not press your brush too firmly in the pan.
  4. Not readily available in many retail locations.
  5. Refill costs $25-27 and compact is sold separately for $18.  I purchased one compact pre-filled with Divine and one refillable pan with Magnetic.  For everyday use, both colors are stored in my MAC palette.
Kjaer Weis Magnetic

Ms. Weis hired famed creative designer extraordinaire Marc Atlan (read more here), to conceptualize the brand’s distinctive metal packaging and branding.  Mr. Atlan’s clients include: David Beckham, Cartier, Dior, YSL Beauty, Helmut Lang, H&M, etc..  It goes without saying, the hefty price-tag, is due in large part to the aesthetic casing that has become synonymous with higher-end cosmetics.  This is not your ordinary everyday eyeshadow compact, but a piece of art 🙂

Kjaer Weis

The weighty top cover, swivels open to reveal a mirror-like surface underneath. The highly polished chrome finish does work nicely in a pinch, but the resulting reflection is a bit hazy.

Kjaer Weis Eyeshadow ingredients.

Kjaer Weis Eyeshadow ingredients.

Amongst all Kjaer Weis organic products, her eyeshadows are not *Certified Organic, rather they are classified as *Certified Natural.  According to KW, some mineral ingredients are grown in areas that are unsupervised (aka: the wild) and therefore, cannot comply to strict organic regulations.  KW website conveniently discloses, in complete detail, all of the ingredients used in all the products; giving the consumer complete autonomy to make their own judgements/decisions (here).

Comparison Eyeshadow Sizes.

Comparison Eyeshadow Sizes.

Personally, I was taken aback to see just how small my little Divine pan compared to other mainstream brands.  However, I do see the brilliance in using such small pans–they fit in any palette, utilizing minimum space.

For the above photos, Magnetic was placed all over the lid and lower lash line, with Divine used in the outer “v” and slightly in the crease.  As a side note, I did pair Giorgio Armani 9 Gold with Magnetic and the results were AMAZING!!   A look to be shown at another time.   🙂

Kjaer Weis Cosmetics are sold online at kjaerweis.com, beautybar.com (where I purchased mine), net-a-porter.com, spiritbeautylounge.com, and beautylish.com.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Kjaer Weis Divine and Magnetic eyeshadows are simply divine 🙂  I know a rather obvious description, but a more appropriate word could not have been used.  This is definitely a line that has spared no expense and every detail, down to the faux leather outer box, is simply exquisite.  Am I hooked?  Oh yeah..needless to say, the glistening inner corner and cheek highlighter, in the photos, is none other than KW Radiance Highlighter; however, we will save that story for another day 🙂   Until next time, be well, stay safe and be happy.

Valentines Day Makeup 2015: Sweet and Sexy.

Valentines Day Makeup

Valentines Day Makeup: Sweet and Sexy.

I remember when Valentines Day was filled with romance, dinners, and flowers.  These days, this day of love has shifted to cuddling on the couch and catching up on all of our favorite TV shows (currently Once and Teen Wolf) with as side of popcorn and our babies.  Do I need to look this fancy in the presence of a television set, my teenage boy, my ten-year old and my hubby who perpetually passes out within the first 10 minutes of the show?  In the immortal words of Sarah Palin, “You Betcha.”

***As usual, Nars Eyeshadow Primer was used prior to eyeshadow application and Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow Maestro in 2 Wedge Wood was used to sculpt the brows.

Make Up For Ever Artist Shadows Me-512 and I-524 applied on the lid.

  • Start by selecting a delicate pinky/champagne color (a combination of MUFE Artist Shadows ME-512 and I-524) and apply the shade all over the mobile lid area.
Make Up For Ever Artist Shadow

Valentine Day Makeup:
Make Up For Ever Artist Shadow M-600 applied to the crease and M-510 applied under the brow bone.

  • Using a fluffy brush (Chikuhodo Z-5), apply a warm brown color (MUFE M-600) to the crease area, followed by a flesh-colored shadow (MUFE M-510) under the brow bone.

  • Using a tapered brush (Trish McEvoy 29 Brush) blend out any harsh lines from GA 4 Wood.
MAC Uninterrupted

Valentines Day Makeup:
MAC Uninterrupted applied to the outer “v” and slightly into the crease.

  • Using the same tapered blending brush, apply MAC Uninterrupted to the outer “v” area and slightly into the crease.  It may seem like a lot of colors added to the crease, but this look is all about using different colors in light layers to add depth and dimension.

  • Add your favorite liquid eyeliner (Guerlain Liquid Liner 2 Bleu Outremer) and draw a dramatic wing to elongate the eye.  Use a pointed Q-Tip, dipped in lotion, to sharpen and lift the edge of your wing–what a difference the liner makes; my eyes instantly appear larger and more youthful.

Valentines Day Makeup:
Apply MAC Uninterrupted heavily to the lower lash line.

  • Adding MAC Uninterrupted heavily to the lower lash line gives the eyes a smoldering, sexy appearance.
MAC Uninterrupted.

Valentines Day Makeup:
Giorgio Armani 9 Gold Eye and Brow Maestro added on top of MAC Uninterrupted.

  • This step is totally optionally, but I think the addition of a golden topper shade (Giorgio Armani 9 Gold Eye and Brow Maestro) on top of MAC Uninterrupted, gives the eyes a glistening quality–plus it just looks so darn pretty 🙂
Vincent Longo Mermaid Muse .

Valentines Day Makeup:
Vincent Longo Mermaid Muse added to the inner corner.

  • Using an angled dual fiber eyeshadow brush (Billy B #12), add your favorite highlight color (Vincent Longo Mermaid Muse) to the inner corner of the eye to really make eyes appear bright and awake.
Clinique High-Impact Mascara.

Valentines Day Makeup:
Completed look with Clinique High-Impact Mascara.

  • Add your favorite mascara to complete the look.  If my eyes did not tear-up so badly as a reaction to the cold weather, I would have certainly added a dark brown eyeliner on the lower waterline for a more dramatic effect.

Valentines Day Face Makeup:

  1. Guerlain Powder Foundation
  2. Dior Star Concealer
  3. Laura Mercier Ritual Bronzer used lightly as a blush and bronzer.
  4. Vincent Longo Mermaid Muse used as a highlighter for the upper cheeks.

Valentines Day Lip Combo:

  1. Girlactik Demure Matte Lip Paint.
  2. Estee Lauder Impulsive Pure Color Envy Lipstick.

  • It goes without saying, add or omit any step you see fit and substitute any of the products shown with things in your own collection.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you the smoldering earthy tones coupled with the naturally wholesome pink hues definitely makes this look appealing for any special night out.  I could have easily worn a red lip, but then the feel would have been more sensual than sweet.  Regardless, of how or when you choose to wear this look, you can be certain heads will turn in your favor 🙂   Until next time, be well, stay safe and be happy.

Best of Beauty 2014.

Best of Beauty 2014 products in action.

Best of Beauty 2014 products in action.

This past year has proven to be quite an extraordinary time for cosmetics.  Velvety smooth matte lipsticks, hybrid gloss/stain lip products, rich eyeshadow textures and colors, and amazing cream shadows and liners seem to have dominated the industry.  We can only hope 2015 will bring us even more phenomenal creations.  Without further ado, I present my personal highlights from this past year.  I hope you enjoy!

Best of Beauty 2014 Eyes:

Best of Beauty 2014 Face:

  •  Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Body Butter is my facial moisturizer during the winter months.  My overly dry skin soaks up this rich cream like a sponge, leaving a feeling of complete hydration for the entirety of the day.
  • Guerlain Lingerie De Peau Nude Powder Foundation is the belle of the ball.  This powder foundation is smooth, hydrating, convenient, and long-lasting.  I cannot think of the last time a foundation has impressed me as much.
  • Dior Star Concealer is hands down the best concealer I have ever used.  The creamy formula glides on the skin and stays in place beautifully throughout the day.

Best of Beauty 2014 Cheeks:

Best of Beauty 2014 Lips:

  • Girlactik Allure Matte Lip Paint is technically a liquid lipstick, but I use this mainly in place of a lipliner. The smooth non-drying, long-lasting formula makes lips impervious to feathering.  So smitten was I with this formula, the color Demure (review coming soon) became the newest addition to my makeup family.
  • Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope Lipsticks have been praise to no end on this blog.  I cannot think of another matte lipstick that can even match the texture and silky smooth feel of this line.
  • YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats are wonderful matte lipstick formulations.  These babies adhere to the lips instantly and leave the most potent stain behind.
  • Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipsticks came with a promise of hydration, longevity and comfortable wear.  The subtle sheen finish was designed to make lips appear more plump.  Judging by the four tubes in my possession, it is safe to say, I’m sold!
  • Dior Addict Fluid Sticks have been such a wonderful investment.  The lightweight texture and cooling sensation instantly awakens any look, especially when worn over a drying lipstick.
  • Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss 20 Audace is the perfect mauve brown shade.  I love to pair this with Girlactik Allure Matte Lip Paint for the ultimate sophisticated lip look.

Best of Beauty 2014 Brushes: Chikuhodo Z-8, Z-4, Z-5 Philosophy Supernatural Airbrush Brush, Wayne Goss Brush 01, Tom Ford Cream Foundation Brush, Billy B #12, Laura Mercier Dual Fiber Eyeshadow, Memebox Eye Brushes.

Best of Beauty 2014 Brushes:
Chikuhodo Z-8, Z-4, Z-5 Philosophy Supernatural Airbrush Brush, Wayne Goss Brush 01, Tom Ford Cream Foundation Brush, Billy B #12, Laura Mercier Finishing Eye Brush, Memebox Eye Brushes.

  • Chikuhodo Z-Series brushes are the most exquisite brushes I have ever used.   These brushes are meant to be used with powder products only.  The soft bristles blend the most pigmented powders to professional perfection.
  • Philosophy Supernatural Airbrush Brush is an oldie but a goodie that was resuscitated for use with my Guerlain Powder Foundation.  The soft dense synthetic bristles effectively works powder into the skin, giving flawless results.
  • Wayne Goss Brush 01 is a wonderful brush that works especially well with liquid foundations.  Currently, I use this brush to apply my cream and/or powder highlighter.
  • Tom Ford Cream Foundation Brush is used for blush and/or contour  application.  The small dense head is perfect for accurate product placement.
  • Billy B #12 Brush is used everyday for blending out gel liners, powder eyeshadows and for my outer corner color application.  The dual fiber angled design is perfect for hard to reach places.
  • Laura Mercier Finishing Eye Brush has been in my collection for years.  I recently started to utilize this gem to blend out my concealer for amazing results!
  • Memebox Brushes are meant for travel, but the short handles and brush head designs are perfect for everyday use.  In addition, the affordable price makes this set an even more attractive offering.

Best of Beauty 2014 Nails:

Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Nail Lacquer with flash.

Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Nail Lacquer (with flash).

  • Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Nail Color is my favorite color from 2014.  The cream formula is classic and appropriate for many occasions.  Best of all, the Estee Lauder’s formula removes easily without color bleeding or staining of the nails.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you this has been a fantastic year for cosmetics.  The innovative formulas and colors seem to have come alive this year.  What have been some of your favorites of 2014?  As always, be well, stay safe and be happy.  May you have a Happy and Healthy New Year!

Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow Maestro 9 Gold is a Golden Opportunity to Shine.

Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow Maestro 9 Gold.

Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow Maestro 9 Gold.

Every year, the holiday season seems to ignite a strong desire to wear gold.  Be it on the lids, the cheeks, the tree, the body–gold seems to be everywhere.  Naturally, when it was time to pick a gold toned eyeshadow, I turned to Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow Maestro 9 Gold ($34 USD/5g) to fill this brightening position.  The intense yellow gold tone shade easily sets the stage for celebration and all good things to come.  Get ready ladies, this gorgeous shadow will not only leave people intrigued, but it will be the last one standing well after the party is over.

Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow Maestro 9 Gold.

Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow Maestro 9 Gold swatches.

  • Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow Maestro 9 Gold is composed of a clear base with warm golden ultra-fine shimmers.  This color applies with the greatest of ease with fingers or a synthetic brush.
  • Another alluring feature is the longevity; just like it comrade, Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow Maestro 2 Wenge Wood (reviewed here), once this beauty sets it does not budge.  I was able to wear this color without any gold shimmer fall-out or creasing for the entire day.  This can be due to the dense cream formula, which is smooth to the touch.
  • 9 Gold proved quite versatile taking on the role of topper shade, stand alone eyeshadow, eyeliner, or mixed with loose eyeshadows to create a unique color.  The below photos show the various ways 9 Gold was utilized.
Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow Maestro 9 Gold.

Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow Maestro 9 Gold worn on bare lids.

  • For the above photo, 9 Gold was applied, with my finger, as a stand alone color to the entire lid area. Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Solo 4 Wood (reviewed here) was used along the lash line and in the crease. This simple eye was not only quick, but a definite stand-out.
Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow Maestro 9 Gold.

Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow Maestro 9 Gold worn with Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Solo in 4 Wood.

  • For this above photo, Giorgio Armani 4 Wood was used heavily in the crease and outer corners with 9 Gold applied directly over the entire lid.  For this look, I prefered to use a synthetic brush, so as to not disturb 4 Wood’s powder consistency.  Another look that took no time, yet appears to have taken forever to have put together.
Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow Maestro 9 Gold.

Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow Maestro 9 Gold worn over Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow 2 Wengewood.

  • For this look, 2 Wenge Wood was applied to the entire lid area with my finger.  Using a synthetic brush, 9 Gold was patted lightly all over Wenge Wood, for a gold scattered effect.  This look was one of my favorites; the newly created color transformed Wedge Wood’s gray tone into a complex Khaki–gorgeous!!! This combo was a match made in makeup heaven.
Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow Maestro 9 Gold.

Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow Maestro 9 Gold mixed with Bare Minerals Sex Kitten.

  • For this final look, 9 Gold was mixed with Bare Minerals Sex Kitten loose eyeshadow on the back of my hand and applied to the lids with a synthetic brush.  This method not gives this color amazing longevity, but incredible depth and dimension.  I tried to add 9 Gold over Sex Kitten and the effect was nowhere near as attractive.
  • This autumnal shimmer shade would suit all eye colors and makes the perfect color to wear for the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday.  Pair this eye look with a killer red lip, and you are sure to turn heads 🙂

Comparison Gold Shades:
Chanel 817 Apparence, 89 Vision, Giorgio Armnai 9 Gold, and YSL 7 Gold Star.

Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow Maestro 9 Gold.

Comparison Gold Shades at a slightly blurred angle:
Chanel 817 Apparence, 89 Vision, Giorgio Armnai 9 Gold, and YSL 7 Gold Star.

  • Chanel Illusion D’Ombre 817 Apparence is a lovely light gold color that is used primarily as a delicate topper shade.  My prefered method of application, is with a fluffy brush and lightly sweeping the color over any matte base.
  • Chanel Illusion D’Ombre 89 Vision is an intense gold with a slight red undertone (camera was unable to capture this effect).  This is another topper shade that is definitely not subtle.  Although touted as long wearing, Illusion D’Ombre shadows do not hold their composure throughout the day.  Due to my deep-set eyes, 89 Vision, tends to migrate into the crease and brow area.
  • Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow Maestro 9 Gold is more yellow and dense than the Chanel shades.  The longevity and versatility are unmatched in my eyes.
  • YSL 7 Gold Star is technically advertised as an eyeliner, but just like Armani, it too is versatile.  This bronze gold is used as a stand alone eyeshadow color, eyeshadow base, eyeliner and inner waterline color.  However, this cannot perform the task of topper shade, due to the saturate base color and lack of shimmer.

**Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow Maestro can be found at Saks, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale and giorgioarmnaibeauty-usa.**

THE VERDICT:  If  Makeup Could Talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow Maestro 9 Gold is one of the most versatile products you can own.  Is this a must-have?  Oh yes, especially if you value shimmer, sparkle and attention.   🙂  What is your favorite look and more importantly, how will you wear your 9 Gold?  Be well, stay safe and be happy.

There was a time when I dismissed The Vampire Diaries as just another young teen drama–that was until saucy Vampire Katherine Pierce entered the scene.  I mean look at her, how can anyone resist her charms, be it by compulsion or otherwise?  What sets Katherine apart from her virtuous Doppelgänger Elena, is her inflated ego, a cut-throat demeanor, impeccable style and fierce makeup 🙂  Her distinct cut-crease eye makeup is present in almost every scene.  So for this post, I bring you my rendition of Katherine Pierce’s eye makeup…now if only I could live forever, be forever young and feast on lasagna instead of resorting to exsanguination 🙂 One can dream…

Outline your desired shape with a cool tone brown.

  • Start by choosing a cool tone brown eyeshadow.  Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Solo 4 Wood Eyeshadow (reviewed here) was applied using an angled brush (Memebox Meme Angled Brush) to outline the upper lash line and draw a line above my natural crease.  This method opens-up the eye area and gives the illusion of a larger lid space.

Take a blending brush to blend out the harsh line.

  • Take any densely packed blending brush (Memebox Meme Eyeshadow Brush) and blend out the crease line, picking up color as you see fit.  Be mindful not to let any of the color seep on the lid area–Katherine loves a defined crease with a brightening lighter color on the lid.

Take a golden shade and apply the color to the middle of the moblie lid.

  • Apply a golden/champagne shimmer shade to the mobile lid area (a combination of MUFE ME-512 and I-648 was used).  The contrasting eyeshadow finishes are quite distinct and really makes eyes stand-out.

Trace the liquid line with a deep black pencil liner.

  • Next, a liquid liner (Prestige Line & Style Ink Pen) was applied as a preliminary guide for my pencil liner (L’Oreal Extra Intense Liquid Pencil Eyeliner), being mindful not to cover the cool brown eyeshadow that was initially placed along the lash line.  This step can be omitted if you have a steady hand with your pencil liner; however, I find the two formulas produce a truly deep black color that is unbeatable.

The Vampire Diaries Katherine Pierce Inspired Eye Makeup Tutorial:
Tight line the upper waterline with your gel liner of choice.

  • Tightline the upper waterline with any gel formula of your choosing (Inglot AMC Gel Liner #90).  Omitting this step would be a cardinal sin…gaps between the lashes is so not Katherine 🙂
The Vampire Diaries Katherine Pierce Inspired Eye Makeup Tutorial:

The Vampire Diaries Katherine Pierce Inspired Eye Makeup Tutorial:
Sharpen the edge of your winged liner with an angled Q-Tip.

  • Sharpen the edge of your winged liner with an angled Q-Tip dipped in lotion.  This step is essential in creating a gap between the upper and lower portion of the eye.
The Vampire Diaries Katherine Pierce Inspired Eye Makeup Tutorial:

The Vampire Diaries Katherine Pierce Inspired Eye Makeup Tutorial:
Apply a flesh-colored pencil to the lower waterline right to the edge of the eye, extending the color under the winged liner.

  • Next, is the quintessential Katherine makeup trick.  A flesh-colored pencil (Merle Norman Inner Liner) was applied on the waterline and extended outwards under the winged liner. Applying the color at the inner cusp, where the upper and lower lids meet, gives the illusion of a more youthful and lifted eye.
The Vampire Diaries Katherine Pierce Inspired Eye Makeup Tutorial:

The Vampire Diaries Katherine Pierce Inspired Eye Makeup Tutorial:
Blend-out the flesh color under the winged liner.

  • Blend out the flesh color pencil thoroughly, with a small eyeshadow brush (Meme Liner Brush).  To ensure the pencil base stays in place, I like to add an accompanying eyeshadow color on top (MUFE M-510).

The Vampire Diaries Katherine Pierce Inspired Eye Makeup Tutorial:
Apply the cool tone brown to the lower lash line.

  • Take your angled eyeliner brush and pick up some of the cool brown color (GA #4 Wood).  Line the lower lash line ¼ of the way, concentrating the color at the edge.  Following the natural curvature of your lower lashes, extend the color away from the eye.  This technique was very popular in the 60’s and 70’s and if you look closely, Katherine employs this method for all of her looks.

The Vampire Diaries Katherine Pierce Inspired Eye Makeup Tutorial:
Add a bronze color over the cool tone brown.

  • Add a bronze colored eyeshadow (Cargo Waterproof Bronzer) directly on top of the cool brown color on the lower lash line.  This step is optional, but as I have stated in the past, I believe adding a bronze hue on the lower lash line is very flattering.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you this Katherine Pierce inspired makeup look has proven to be quite a hit.  I have worn this look many times and on each occasion, random people felt “compelled” to compliment my eye makeup.  Won’t you try it and see for yourself.  Be well, stay safe and be happy.

Giorgio Armani #4 Wood Eyes to Kill Solo Eyeshadow.

By now, most of you have realized I cannot go a week without the mere mention of one of my favorite cosmetics lines: Giorgio Armani.  If I had my choice of creating a matte eyeshadow formula, most assuredly I would hijack the Armani recipe.  The pigmentation, longevity, blendability and versatility are incredibly impressive.  Giorgio Armani #4 Wood Eyes to Kill Solo Eyeshadow ($32 USD/ 1.5 g) is another wonderful color that is sure to be a staple in anyone’s collection.

Giorgio Armani #4 Wood’s color description is exactly as the name implies, the matte bark-like cool tone brown makes the perfect crease color, eyeliner color and a fantastic brow color (for those with dark hair). This particular shade may not seem like anything special, but it has proven to be quite versatile in my routine for the past week. The next set of photos will demonstrate all the ways you can use this remarkable color.

**For all the following looks, Nars Eyeshadow Primer was used as a base along with Inglot #90 AMC Gel Liner on the upper waterline .

For the above photo, #4 Wood was applied along the upper lash line using my dampened Meme Angled brush (reviewed here).  A thin line of black liquid liner was used close to the lash line to create more dimension.  In addition, MUFE Artist Shadow M-600 was used in the crease, M-510 on the brow bone and I-524 on the inner corner.

For the above photo, #4 Wood was applied thickly along the upper lash line using my finger and blended with my Billy B #12 Brush (reviewed here).  L’Oreal Infallible Gel-Pencil liner was used directly on top of Wood, focusing the color closest to the lash line.  MUFE M-600 was mixed with #4 Wood through the crease, along with M-510 on the brow bone.  I am quite partial to this technique, as it flatters my eye shape the best.

For the above photo, #4 Wood was applied to the outer corner, lightly in the crease and through the brows. A small amount was also applied close to the outer half of the lower lash line with Cargo Waterproof Bronzer applied directly on top.  Merle Norman Inner Eyeliner was used on the lower waterline and extended outwardly underneath the winged liner.  MUFE Artist Shadow ME-512 is the golden shade on the lid.

For the above photos, #4 Wood was used in the same manner as the previous look, but with a little more depth.  A full detailed tutorial will be coming soon on this look.  I like to call it, The Vampire Diaries Katherine Pierce Makeup Look.  Can you tell I’ve been catching up on “my stories” as of late?  🙂

My only criticism lies with the packaging. However, sturdy and cute the compact may appear, storing all of my Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Solo Eyeshadows has been challenging. The oddly shaped compacts cannot be stacked, or even placed on their sides; the only option is to lay them flat with their labels showing.

Regardless of how much it will pain my soul, depotting these shadows might be my only option. Olivia from the Unknown Beauty Blog has a great tutorial (here) on how to depot eyeshadows without heat.  Her method also conveniently ensures the compacts stay intact should you ever feel the need to reuse them for travel. Bravo Olivia!!!

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Giorgio Armani #4 Wood Eyes to Kill Solo Eyeshadow is one color I would not want to be without.  The amazingly smooth texture and phenomenal wear more than justifies the purchase of any of these amazing shadows.  Have you indulged in any of the Eyes to Kill Solo shades?  If not, what the heck are you waiting for? 🙂  Be well, stay safe and be happy.
