Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 10 Beige review and swatches.

Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush #10 Beige.

Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 10 Beige.

Blushes in general are the chameleons of the cosmetics world.  What you see in the pan does not necessarily translate the same way on the cheeks.  I feel like Goldilocks, some colors are too dark, others are too light, and some are down right hideous.  Enter Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 10 Beige ($44 US/ 6g) what you see is what you get; he is just right 🙂   According to the sales associate at Saks, 10 Beige is the #1 seller in the Armani blush range.  The name is a bit deceiving, 10 Beige does not resemble any beige color I have ever seen.  This peachy/pink color with pink and gold micro-shimmers is quite flattering, sophisticated and smooth.  Forget the porridge ladies, this is all about the “Oops…I didn’t mean to do that” flush of color to your cheeks.

Many people have compared Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 10 Beige to Nars Orgasm.  The latter has such a huge cult following. Every makeup enthusiast, at one point in time, has used that color–myself included, however on me it looked downright clownish.  The strong pinky/peach base color coupled with an unnatural golden sheen was completely unflattering and artificial.  Nars Orgasm had performance issues and it left me unsatisfied (despite the name 🙂 )

The Pros:

  1. GA 10 beige has an ultra silky smooth formula.
  2. Sleek black magnetic packaging coupled with a sizable mirror.
  3. Blush 10 Beige is very natural looking…for women who seek the “less is more” look.
  4. Powder is tightly pressed into the compact–no annoying powder flying everywhere when you swirl your brush in the blush.
  5. Pigmented with a sheer texture and tone.
  6. Blends easily to meld with the skin rather than sitting on-top of the skin.
  7. Refined shimmers transform into a beautiful sheen on the skin to give that “lit from within” look.
  8. The more the color is buffed into the skin the more luminous the effect.
  9. No fragrance or parabens.
  10. Armani offers 6 g/$44 as opposed to Chanel blushes which offer 4 g/$43.
  11. Universally flattering color pairs well with most eye looks and lip colors.
  12. Ideally suited for lighter skin tones.
  13. Permanent color in the Armani line.
  14. Stays put for 8 hours and beyond…(longer if you use Skindinavia Setting Spray).

The Cons:

  1. Armani Cosmetics are not readily available at all department stores.
  2. Absence of a protective cover and/or brush–at this price point, an additional item should have been included.
  3. Darker skinned beauties may find this more suitable as a highlighter rather than a blush.
  4. Medium skin tones will have to layer 10 Beige, to reap the benefits of the lovely peachy/pink glow.

I prefer to apply 10 Beige with my Tom Ford Cheek Brush (reviewed here).  Simply, dip the brush into the blush and using a tapping motion, pat the color across the cheekbone area, until you have reached your desired intensity.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you if you seek a refined sophisticated look, then you will not go wrong with Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 10 Beige.  This color hits all the right notes in terms of texture, color, luminosity, and even packaging.  Truthfully, I was torn between GA blush and the new Chanel Joues Contraste Blush in (84) Accent.  I chose Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 10 Beige because of the size, silky feel and lack of fragrance.  So glad I did.  Do you own any GA Sheer Blushes?   Be well and stay safe.

Giorgio Armani Flash Lacquer 608 swatches, photos, review.

Giorgio Armani Flash Lacquer 608.

Giorgio Armani Flash Lacquer 608.

Giorgio Armani Flash Lacquer 608 ($29US/6.5 ml) is the newest creation from Giorgio Armani Beauty.  According to the Armani website:

“Giorgio Armani premieres the newest generation in lip gloss with Flash Lacquer. Flash Lacquer provides the highest reflection ever achieved, even after blotting lips. The shape and shine technology causes light to reflect off of every point of surface for a pure pop of color.”

Well that is a very bold statement.  The ultimate lip gloss formula, with long-lasting shine, moisture and color (according to the sale associate at my counter).  Let’s put it to the test…..Shall we….

Formula:

Admittedly the formula is somewhat smooth, however these are very sheer glosses.  In fact, an arm swatch yields more color than a lip swatch.  Flash Lacquer 608 is a plumy color mixed with multi colored shimmers; very promising color selection.  Regardless, when the gloss dries down or is removed, the shimmers remain behind and migrate around the mouth and chin area.  My sense of touch also spies a sightly gritty texture when lips are rubbed together.  At this price point the shimmers should feel undetectable!

 Longevity:

According to the press release, these are longer wearing, glossier lip glosses than the typical glosses out on the market.   I am here to debunk that claim.  On its own, Flash Lacquer 608 was very pale and lasted all of two hours on me, therefore, I applied it very sparingly on top of Laura Mercier Mango Lip Colour.  This combo lasted on me for two hours before it feathered into my fine lines and migrated outwardly.  After three hours, Flash Lacquer 608 caused my lip color to fade unevenly, leaving a glossy ring around the perimeter of my mouth.  I was so disgusted, I wiped it off before I could photograph the hideousness for all to see.

Three hours after application. GA flash lacquer on top of Laura Mercier Mango lip Colour.

Feathering into my fine lines. GA flash lacquer 608 on top of Laura Mercier Mango Lip Colour.

The Pros:

The absence of flavoring/fragrance and a sturdy applicator seem to be the only redeeming qualities these glosses possess.  The packaging is typical Armani and far more attractive than the tacky red packaging of the Lip Maestro.

There are 32 colors in the lineup, my Nordstrom only had 12 colors on display, most of which were shimmers.  I suspect the high level of shimmers in these products is what Armani Beauty was hoping would aid with the “high reflection” claim.  Giorgio Armani Beauty is sold at Nordstrom, Sakes, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf, Barney’s, and Giorgio Armani.com.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you there are drugstore glosses that out perform Giorgio Armani Flash Lacquer 608.  Prestige Mineral Gloss in Shimmering Sand performs better than GA, at a fraction of the price.  Flash Lacquers are simply average glosses packaged and branded with the Armani name and sold at exorbitant prices.  I felt like Lloyd Dobler in Say Anything,

I don’t want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or processed, or process anything sold, bought, or processed, or repair anything sold, bought, or processed.

You know you have made a bad purchase when you start quoting Lloyd Dobler and questioning your consumer savvy. What have you bought lately, In Your Eyes (Peter Gabriel dude), that has not met your expectations?  Be well and stay safe.
