Best of Beauty 2014 products in action.

This past year has proven to be quite an extraordinary time for cosmetics.  Velvety smooth matte lipsticks, hybrid gloss/stain lip products, rich eyeshadow textures and colors, and amazing cream shadows and liners seem to have dominated the industry.  We can only hope 2015 will bring us even more phenomenal creations.  Without further ado, I present my personal highlights from this past year.  I hope you enjoy!

Best of Beauty 2014 Eyes:

Best of Beauty 2014 Face:

  •  Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Body Butter is my facial moisturizer during the winter months.  My overly dry skin soaks up this rich cream like a sponge, leaving a feeling of complete hydration for the entirety of the day.
  • Guerlain Lingerie De Peau Nude Powder Foundation is the belle of the ball.  This powder foundation is smooth, hydrating, convenient, and long-lasting.  I cannot think of the last time a foundation has impressed me as much.
  • Dior Star Concealer is hands down the best concealer I have ever used.  The creamy formula glides on the skin and stays in place beautifully throughout the day.

Best of Beauty 2014 Cheeks:

Best of Beauty 2014 Lips:

  • Girlactik Allure Matte Lip Paint is technically a liquid lipstick, but I use this mainly in place of a lipliner. The smooth non-drying, long-lasting formula makes lips impervious to feathering.  So smitten was I with this formula, the color Demure (review coming soon) became the newest addition to my makeup family.
  • Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope Lipsticks have been praise to no end on this blog.  I cannot think of another matte lipstick that can even match the texture and silky smooth feel of this line.
  • YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats are wonderful matte lipstick formulations.  These babies adhere to the lips instantly and leave the most potent stain behind.
  • Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipsticks came with a promise of hydration, longevity and comfortable wear.  The subtle sheen finish was designed to make lips appear more plump.  Judging by the four tubes in my possession, it is safe to say, I’m sold!
  • Dior Addict Fluid Sticks have been such a wonderful investment.  The lightweight texture and cooling sensation instantly awakens any look, especially when worn over a drying lipstick.
  • Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss 20 Audace is the perfect mauve brown shade.  I love to pair this with Girlactik Allure Matte Lip Paint for the ultimate sophisticated lip look.

Best of Beauty 2014 Brushes:

Best of Beauty 2014 Brushes: Chikuhodo Z-8, Z-4, Z-5 Philosophy Supernatural Airbrush Brush, Wayne Goss Brush 01, Tom Ford Cream Foundation Brush, Billy B #12, Laura Mercier Dual Fiber Eyeshadow, Memebox Eye Brushes.

Best of Beauty 2014 Brushes:
Chikuhodo Z-8, Z-4, Z-5 Philosophy Supernatural Airbrush Brush, Wayne Goss Brush 01, Tom Ford Cream Foundation Brush, Billy B #12, Laura Mercier Finishing Eye Brush, Memebox Eye Brushes.

  • Chikuhodo Z-Series brushes are the most exquisite brushes I have ever used.   These brushes are meant to be used with powder products only.  The soft bristles blend the most pigmented powders to professional perfection.
  • Philosophy Supernatural Airbrush Brush is an oldie but a goodie that was resuscitated for use with my Guerlain Powder Foundation.  The soft dense synthetic bristles effectively works powder into the skin, giving flawless results.
  • Wayne Goss Brush 01 is a wonderful brush that works especially well with liquid foundations.  Currently, I use this brush to apply my cream and/or powder highlighter.
  • Tom Ford Cream Foundation Brush is used for blush and/or contour  application.  The small dense head is perfect for accurate product placement.
  • Billy B #12 Brush is used everyday for blending out gel liners, powder eyeshadows and for my outer corner color application.  The dual fiber angled design is perfect for hard to reach places.
  • Laura Mercier Finishing Eye Brush has been in my collection for years.  I recently started to utilize this gem to blend out my concealer for amazing results!
  • Memebox Brushes are meant for travel, but the short handles and brush head designs are perfect for everyday use.  In addition, the affordable price makes this set an even more attractive offering.

Best of Beauty 2014 Nails:

Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Nail Lacquer with flash.

Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Nail Lacquer (with flash).

  • Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Nail Color is my favorite color from 2014.  The cream formula is classic and appropriate for many occasions.  Best of all, the Estee Lauder’s formula removes easily without color bleeding or staining of the nails.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you this has been a fantastic year for cosmetics.  The innovative formulas and colors seem to have come alive this year.  What have been some of your favorites of 2014?  As always, be well, stay safe and be happy.  May you have a Happy and Healthy New Year!

Makeup of the Week: Holiday Edition.

Makeup of the Week: Holiday Edition.

The holiday season is one of the most exciting times of the year.  However, the stress of organizing a dinner party can also be overwhelming and exhausting.  Fortunately, my sister is the brave soul that bares the responsibility of cooking Thanksgiving dinner (out of all the foods I can cook, why does baking a turkey elude me?).  For this Makeup of the Week: Holiday Edition, I have put together two quick and easy looks, using long-wearing products that can be worn without any need for touch-ups.  I hope you enjoy!

Makeup of the Week: Holiday Edition.

Makeup of the Week: Holiday Edition.
Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow Maestro 9 Gold and Givenchy 9 Brun Cachmeire.

Makeup of the Week: Holiday Edition Eye Makeup:

  1. Prime eyes with Nars Eyeshadow Primer.
  2. Fill and shape the brows (Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow 2 Wenge Wood).
  3. Using the back of your hand, combine equal parts (amount will vary) of Giorgio Armnai Eye and Brow 9 Gold with Givenchy 9 Brun Cachemire (reviewed here) and apply the mixture to the mobile lid using a synthetic brush.
  4. Use a warm brown shade in the crease (MUFE M-600) to blend out the edges of the lid color.
  5. Apply a lighter gold shade to the inner corners of the eye (MUFE ME-512).
  6. Line the lower lash line with Givenchy Brun Cachemire and then lightly pat Giorgio Armani 9 Gold directly over.
  7. Line the inner waterline, with a flesh tone pencil (Merle Norman Inner Liner), extending the color out and under the winged liner, to lighten the look and make eyes appear larger.
  8. Tightline the upper waterline with any gel liner of your choosing (Inglot AMC #90).
  9. Add your favorite mascara (Clinique High Impact Mascara) and black liner (Milani Liquid Liner) and your look is complete.
  10. This step is opitional:  I like to add a bit more of 9 Gold over the lid for a little extra pizzazz.

For the above photos, the same steps were used as the previous look with the obvious difference being the addition of Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Solo 2 Armani Navy (reviewed here) applied to the outer corner and in the crease.  Guerlain Liquid Liner in 02 BLEU OUTREMER (review coming soon) was also used in place of a black liner.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you these two looks lasted perfectly all day, with the exception of the lip color.  What look are you planning to wear for the upcoming holidays?

Since Thanksgiving is all about giving thanks, a special thanks to my hubby who always supports my insanity; to my children who always accompany me (reluctantly, but sweet about it) to the cosmetics counters; and last, but certainly not least, to all of my wonderful readers who always provide inspiration and joy.  Happy Thanksgiving…warm wishes and big hugs from my home to yours.  Be well, stay safe and be happy.

Makeup of the Week: Budge Proof Makeup.

As mentioned in many posts, I love Givenchy Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadows; the consistency, longevity and formula are amazing.  For this Makeup of the Week: Budge Proof Makeup, an impromptu tennis session and a five-mile walk, with my sister, created the perfect occasion to see if these beauties would live up to the “waterproof” claim.  Did I have high expectations?  Yes.  Did I want zero color fading and migration?  Yes.  Did I get everything I wanted?  You betcha 🙂

Makeup of the Week: Budge Proof Face Makeup:

  1. Dr. Mercola Sunscreen SPF 50 applied ever so lightly on face.  This stuff is potent, a little product provides you amazing sun protection and is sweat-proof (at least on me).
  2. Guerlain Meteorites Primer.
  3. Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24H Foundation 340 Bisque (N).
  4. MAC Mineralized Skinfinish Natural in Medium Deep used as a setting powder.
  5. Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer.
  6. Giorgio Armani Cheek Fabric in 503 has (not) officially replaced my broken GA Sheer Blush 10 Beige.  I prefer to use GA blushes with a dampened brush for longer-lasting results.
  7. MAC Play it Proper Beauty Powder used as a highlighter for the cheek bones.
  8. Skindinadiva Setting Spray was used to set the face makeup.

  9. Billy B #11 used to apply Inglot #90 to the upper water line (reviewed here).
  10. Estee Lauder Eyeliner/Brow 20 Brush used to apply Givenchy 7 Gris Organza.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Givenchy Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadows lasted beautifully under these extremely hot conditions, thus substantiating the waterproof claim.  Four hours of humidity and sweat really put these cream shadows to the test.  The rest of my makeup held up fairly well, with the exception of my bronzer.  Do I normally wear this much makeup during a workout?  No way–I just happened to have been bamboozled by my darling sister to participate in her daily workout routine…and I loved every minute!!!  I hope you found this helpful.  Be well, stay safe and be happy.

Givenchy 9 Brun Cachemire Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow review and photos.

Givenchy 9 Brun Cashmere Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow.

Givenchy 9 Brun Cachemire Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow.

When Sephora holds a VIB sale, that is the time to partake in some unscrupulous spending 🙂  Seriously, even though my dark side wanted to dive into the recent 15% VIB sale without a care in the world, my rational parental side reminded me, I have two future college educations to consider.  Anyway, enough with my temporary moral ramblings; one of the items I decided to purchase was Givenchy 9 Brun Cachemire Ombre Couture Eyeshadow ($23 USD/4g.).  Seeing as how I absolutely adore my other three shadows from the line, I figured this was the perfect opportunity to round off my Givenchy cream eyeshadow collection.

Givenchy 9 Brun Cashmere Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow.

Givenchy 9 Brun Cachemire Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow.

Givenchy 9 Brun Cachemire Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow (say that five times) is just as rich and luxurious as it’s siblings:  7 Gris Organza (reviewed here), 1 Top Coat Blanc Satin (reviewed here), and 6 Kaki Brocart (reviewed here).  This chocolate-brown cream-to-powder eyeshadow with delicate bronze and gold shimmers, is a beautiful everyday staple that will work as a stand alone color or as a base for powder eyeshadows.  Being that the shimmers are part of the cream, there is absolutely no shimmer fallout.  The shimmers in 9 Brun Cachemire are so finely milled, contained and sophisticated, any age group can comfortably sport this eyeshadow for any occasion.

The lack of red undertones also makes Givenchy 9 Brun Cachemire a universally flattering color for all eye colors and skin tones.  Darker skinned beauties can utilize this particular color to even out lid coloring and/or as a stand alone eyeshadow for an instantly polished look.

The above photos show the warm nature of the 9 Brun Cachemire against my brown eyes.  I like to shade the upper lash line and blend out the color midway up the lid.  As you can see, in certain lighting conditions, the shimmers are hardly detectable.  However, when faced with LED lighting or sunlight, the bronze and gold shimmers reflect ever so slightly, giving the color some interest and dimension.

For the above photos, I decided to layer cream and powder interchangeably to see if the results would cake or become patchy. Bobbi Brown Espresso Eyeshadow was used on top of 9 Brun Cachemire, then I decided to layer another smattering of BC on top of BB Espresso to bring out more of the bronze/gold shimmer.  As you can see, the results were smooth and even.  You could keep on going with this pattern until you have reached your desired intensity.  This cream-powder-cream concoction lasted all day (13 hours with Nars Eyeshadow Base) without any color fading or migration.  I really cannot wait to see how Givenchy Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadows perform during the summer.

Application was achieved using a synthetic brush:  Sonia Kashuk (shown here) or my trusty Billy B #12 Brush (reviewed here).  Fingers can be used when applying the color on the entire lid, but due to my choice of color placement, a more precise tool was required.  As mentioned in my previous reviews, the dry-time is very forgiving; however, once the shadow sets it does not budge.

Givenchy 9 Brun Cachemire Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow can be found at Sephora.com.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could all what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Givenchy 9 Brun Cachemire Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow is a beautiful everyday neutral color.  At first glance, this may not invoke feelings of excitement; nevertheless, it is the simple unassuming shades that are admired and utilized the most often.  I hope you found this helpful…For all those who celebrate Easter…I wish you all a Happy and Healthy Holiday!!!  Be well and stay safe.
