The anticipation of a new makeup line is without a doubt very exciting; especially, when that line hails from the Gucci Empire.  Their clothing line, shoes and accessories are among the most coveted items in the fashion business.  It was only a matter of time, before this glamorous brand’s influence and style extended to the beauty world.  According to Gucci.com, from the power house duo of Frida Giannini (Creative Director) and Pat McGrath (Cosmetics Artistic Director) comes a line that,

continues the Gucci traditions of luxury, confidence, and glamour.  From [Giannini] uniquely feminine and distinctly Italian point of view comes a union of makeup and fashion that could only be Gucci.

We spent a long time perfecting a precise balance of technology and finishes, which are unique and unmistakably Gucci. They are so professional that they can be used in backstage or when a woman effortlessly applies them at home,” said Pat McGrath.

Gucci Nude Freesia Sheer Blushing Powder ($49 USD/ 4.25 g) is an example of that vision brought to life. Let’s face it, who wouldn’t want to open up a cosmetic compact and be greeted by those beautiful signature G’s?

According to the lovely MUA Susie Ippolito at Saks Fifth Avenue, Frida Giannini designed these compacts to be viewed as added accessories to pair with your favorite Gucci items.  The line is simply called Gucci, as opposed to Gucci Beauty to convey the feeling that one is investing in the luxury line and not just cosmetics.  If Gucci (anything) was unobtainable in the past, their cosmetics make it possible for everyone to own a little piece of the Gucci pie .  Brilliant marketing, wouldn’t you say?

The Pros to Gucci Nude Freesia Sheer Blushing Powder.

  1. Gorgeous deep pink with a slight terracotta undertone.
  2. Powder is smooth and applies easily.
  3. Micro-shimmers do not appear on the face, in fact the colors appears matte unless in direct sunlight.
  4. Ideal for more mature skins and those who prefer matte finishes.
  5. Beautiful magnetized black and gold compact comes with a signature velvet pouch.  Love the rounded corners..very Apple/Steven Jobs-esque.
  6. Chic signature emblem is embossed into the blush.
  7. Gucci name is etched into the base of the sizable mirror…nice touch!
  8. Included brush can be used in a pinch to apply color on the go.
  9. Powder adheres to the skin immediately and the color endured on my dry skin for 8 hours +.
  10. Comes in 8 gorgeous shades to accommodate all skin tones.
  11. Formulated without parabens, mineral oil or fragrance.
  12. Made in Italy.

The Cons to Gucci Nude Freesia Sheer Blushing Powder:

  1. Color does not apply evenly on dry patches on the skin; moisturized skin is a must with this formula.
  2. Terracotta undertone is very evident against my complexion.  This would be an ideal color for deeper skin tones.
  3. Due to the finely milled texture, pressing a brush too firmly into the pan will result in powder kick-up.
  4. Soft hair brushes, like my Chikuhodo Z-8 or Z-2, do not pick up enough powder for my liking; the effect is way too sheer.  However, when using a denser brush (Tom Ford Blush Brush), the results were very dramatic.  It took me a couple of tries to figure out the right brush (Wayne Goss Brush 02) and amount to use.
  5. Compact is a fingerprint magnet.

For the above photo, Nude Freesia is noticeably darker and deeper in tone than my beloved Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush 10 Beige.  Another noticeable difference pertains to the finish each blush delivers; Nude Freesia appears more matte on the skin, where as 10 Beige’s subtle pink/gold pearl gives just the right amount of satiny glow to the skin.  Two different formulas for two very different moods and looks.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Gucci Nude Freesia Sheer Blushing Powder is a lovely blush indeed.  The texture, the longevity and especially the packaging, are all top-notch.  Will this replace my precious Giorgio Armani 10 Beige Sheer Blush?  Never..but Gucci Nude Freesia makes a nice addition to my very limited and exclusive blush club.  What are you eyeing from the Gucci collection?  Be well, stay safe and be happy.
