Top Beauty Items of 2013.

Another year has flown by and we are always left with this overwhelming feeling of contemplation. Reflection, regret and resolutions seem to dominate our consciousness during this time of year.  However, when it comes to beauty purchases, reflection can be helpful, regret is useless and I solemnly swear to be a resolute consumer of all beauty items that make me smile 🙂  I hope you enjoy my Top Beauty Items of 2013.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you 2013 was a stellar year for makeup and I look forward to the many more cosmetics goodies in 2014.  What are some of your favorite products from this past year?   In the meanwhile, I would like to wish each and everyone a very Happy and Healthy New Year!  Be well and stay safe.

Laura Mercier Ritual Possible Dupes

When your hands are tied and your back is up against the wall, what do you do?  The answer is simple: you use everything and anything to your advantage to break free.  When makeup addicts are faced with the horrid words: limited edition, we are like rabid dogs, clawing and frothing at the mouth demanding more production. This is what Laura Mercier is doing to the mass public by making Ritual Baked Blush Bronze limited edition (reviewed here). I however, must keep a level head and try to decipher this magical concoction and present my Laura Mercier Ritual Possible Dupes for all those poor souls who missed out on the original.

Utilizing my amateur artistic eye, I realized Laura Mercier Ritual has a dominant matte brown base color, with little or no distinguishable orange undertone.  Those stunning pinky rosy striations are what give Ritual its distinction, the more you buff Ritual the more luminous it becomes.  The formula is simple:  Matte bronzer base color (of your choosing) + a rosy bronze luminous blush color = Ritual.

If you are new to my blog, I did a post on MAC Sweet As Cocoa blush (reviewed here) and related its overall undertone to Ritual.  MAC Sweet As Cocoa has a pink luminosity that also becomes more prominent the more it is buffed into the skin.  I suspect this type of color is what inspired the creation of Ritual.  For our purposes, we will use MAC Sweet As Cocoa as the catalyst for our Laura Mercier Ritual Possible Dupes.

Laura Mercier Ritual Possible Dupes:

  • First Blend:  Too Faced Chocolate Bronzer + Mac Sweet As Cocoa:  98% dupe.  The most neutral color, you can intensify the bronzer base to get a spot on color to Ritual.
  • *Middle Color: Laura Mercier Ritual Blush Bronze.
  • Second Blend:  Bobbi Brown Bronzer in Medium + MAC Sweet As Cocoa:  97% dupe.  Bobbi Brown Medium bronzer has a dominant red undertone.

  • Third Blend:  Edward Bess Daydream Bronzer + MAC Sweet As Cocoa blush. 94% dupe. Lighter brown undertone, would suit lighter skin tones more so than Ritual.
  • *Middle Color:  Laura Mercier Ritual Blush Bronzer.
  • Fourth Blend:  DiorSkin Nude Tan 003 Cinnamon + MAC Sweet As Cocoa blush. 90% dupe.  Dior has more of a warmer undertone than Ritual.  The resulting color has beautiful dimension.

As I was typing my post, the persistent commentator (aka: my husband) remarked, “Why did you put the same three brown stripes on your arm?” (referring to the first set of colors).  To which I had to break my concentration and respond, “They are not the same, look at the color difference.”  He then rebutted, “I don’t know what you see, but those look exactly the same to me.”  What a novice and a sweetheart!

I decided to show him the subtle differences and apply one side of my face with Laura Mercier Ritual and the other with my Second Blend.  Can you see a difference?  No…No…are you sure?  Yeah, neither can I, they look exactly the same on the face.  He was right…that earned him a scrambled egg sandwich.  I used my Tom Ford Bronzer Brush (reviewed here) to apply each formula on my face and for my arm swatches. Make sure to dip your brush in each powder the same amount of times for each application.  I dipped my brush twice in the bronzer and once in Sweet As Cocoa to get the right coloring.  Play around with the colors on your hand/arm to see what will work on your complexion.

MAC cosmetics are found everywhere: Macy’s, Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, Bergdorf, Saks, maccosmetics.com (they offer free shipping on all orders) etc..  Laura Mercier is found at the same locations, but Ritual seems to be sold out everywhere.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you to buy MAC Sweet As Cocoa and combine it with your favorite matte bronzer to create a luminous bronzer color to suit your own skin tone.  As a warning, MAC Sweet As Cocoa is very dark and a light hand is strongly suggested.  Do I deserve a pat on the back for a job well done?  Nah..I place my fisted hands on my hips, in my most honorable Superhero stance (Wonder Woman please) and proclaim victory for all those who have been wronged by the limited edition curse.  I hope you find my Laura Mercier Ritual Possible Dupes helpful. Leave a comment and tell us what your favorite matte bronzer is to pair with MAC Sweet As Cocoa.  As always be well and stay safe.
