Date Night Look.

Date Night Look Lip Combo: Jordana Plush Plum and Estee Lauder Electric Wine.

Date Night Look Lip Combo:
Jordana Plush Plum and Estee Lauder Electric Wine.

Recently, my husband and I attended a last minute event and a quick and simple look was required.  For this Date Night Look, time was of the essence, so I decided to play up my lips rather than waste time creating an elaborate eye look.  Truth be told, I did not alter my daytime makeup in the least, but simply changed the lip combo. Adding an extra necklace or two also helps to dress up any outfit.  I hope you find this helpful and can use some ideas for your next date night 🙂

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup of the Week: Seventh Edition Golden Eyes.

This Makeup of the Week: Seventh Edition Golden Eyes will feature a brightening, quick and low maintenance look.  My gel liners worked as the ideal multi-purpose product, giving me a long-lasting and smudge-free eye look.  People will think you spent hours on your eye makeup, when only ten minutes were employed.  There is something about pairing gold with navy blue, which I find so attractive and universally flattering.  I hope you enjoy.  *click on each photo to enlarge.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would reveal this makeup look took no time to put together.  Try to utilize multi-purpose products if time is of the essence in the morning.  Gel liners work beautifully as cream eyeshadows, bronzer can be used for crease color/eyeshadow, and lipstick could also take on the role of blusher.   Learn to be creative with the use of your cosmetics to suit your life style.  You may come up with unique one-of-a-kind colors, and save money to boot.  Of course in my case, this only leads me to spend more money to see if I can duplicate my success.  Oh well…every theory has it’s flaws 🙂  Be well and stay safe.

Makeup of the Week: Sixth Edition.

This Makeup of the Week: Sixth Edition will feature all the lovely goodies I acquired last week from my visit to the CCO.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with a CCO (Cosmetics Company Outlet), it is an outlet store the Estee Lauder Company has cleverly established to sell all of their overstock merchandise from their subsidiary brands.  All cosmetics/fragrance brands included are: Estee Lauder, MAC, Clinique, Bobbi Brown, Joe Malone, Flirt, Smashbox, Bumble and Bumble, Origins, Donna Karen, Tom Ford, Ojon, Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors and Prescriptives.  All items in store are sold at a 30% discount off the original retail price.  As an added bonus, the sales women are lovely and customers have the comfort/freedom to swatch and roam for as long as one desires.  Who could ask for more?

Makeup would tell you to locate your nearest Tangers Outlet Mall (location finder here) and visit a CCO pronto!  Plan a trip for the day with your family/friends and roam all the stores to your heart’s content.  CCO are fantastic for discovering some limited-edition jewels that were hard to obtain during the original release. I have yet to spy any TF brushes..Darn!  Do call ahead of time to check inventory before making a trip.  I hope you find this helpful and informative.  Be well and stay safe.

Laura Mercier Spellbound Illuminator review, swatches and comparisons.

Laura Mercier Spellbound Highlighter.

Laura Mercier Spellbound Highlighter.

The most acquired items in my makeup collection are highlighters.  I have an ongoing obsession with these gleaming, glowing, silky beauties.  Being that I have a dry skin, a highlighter is a must in my daily routine. Highlighters/Illuminators single-handedly restore the life and glow back into my skin, which has been unkindly stripped away by foundation and time 🙂  So when Laura Mercier Spellbound Illuminator  ($42 US/10g) from the new Dark Spell Collection came-a-calling, I answered with a resounding, “YES PLEASE!”   *click on each photo to enlarge*

The Pros/Formula:

Spellbound has a wonderful hybrid formula and aesthetically speaking, it is an amazing piece of cosmetic to behold.  The term hybrid would imply a mixture of two textures, presumably gel and powder.  The color of Spellbound is a soft rose gold, not too light, shimmery or dark, it would certainly suit a variety of makeup looks and skin tones.  Laura Mercier describes Spellbound as,

A beautiful face illuminating hybrid product with a soft rose gold shimmer perfect for highlighting. The unique formula based on high pearl levels provides buildable long-wearing colour.

The hybrid consistency is very reminiscent of the limited-edition Rose Rendezvous (RR) Illuminator Laura Mercier introduced last year.   RR had an unmistakable rose/pink hue (similar to Estee Lauder Modern Mercury highlighter), which did not appeal to me in the least.  Spellbound on the other hand has a slight pink undertone dominated by a peach/gold base color; I adore this shade.  Spellbound is pigmented and long-lasting with a definite sheen apparent in the targeted areas.  My Laura Mercier Highlight 01 (reviewed here) remains my favorite illuminator, however when mixed with Spellbound, it takes on a denser persona. When combined, Spellbound was able to warm up Highlight 01 so that the latter did not look so stark on my tanned summer complexion.

The Cons:

I did find the texture to be slightly gritty compared to Highlight 01.  Of course the average “jane” would think me ludicrous, but the makeup connoisseur within, can sense the discrepancy in the quality.  My other complaint is the “limited-edition” tag that has been slapped on this product.  Due to the general appeal, LM should consider making Spellbound (and Ritual) a permanent item in their lineup.

Comparisons Highlighters/Illuminators:

The closest Highlighter/Illuminator in color to LM Spellbound would be Dior Amber Diamond.  Keep in mind, any one of these offerings will look slightly different depending on your natural coloring.  There are some highlighters in my collection I no longer use due to the fragrance and/or paraben factor.  If these features do not concern you, all the highlighters shown are fabulous.  I apply Spellbound with my Tom Ford Cream Foundation Brush, but frankly any small head brush will suffice.  The lasting power is phenomenal especially if used with a slightly dampened brush.

Laura Mercier cosmetics are sold in Lord & Taylor, Nordstrom, Sephora, Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus, Sakslauramercier.com, etc..

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Laura Mercier Spellbound is a beautiful, gleaming, soft, and sexy Illuminator. Nothing compliments your face like a good quality highlighter and this does the job spectacularly.  As always, it is best to start off lightly and build up to your desired intensity.  Due take note Spellbound is limited-edition, therefore do not hesitate, because as we all know Laura giveth and she also taketh away.   Be well and stay safe.
