MAC Deliciously Rich Fluidline is a Savory Sweet Treat!

My encounter with MAC Deliciously Rich Fluidline ($17.50 US/3g) was a complete accident.  You see when I take my mother shopping, quite often I drift off to other areas within the store (specifically the makeup counters).  I do not mean to abandon my sweet lady, but there is only so much Ralph Lauren clothing I can look at one time (her favorite line).  Maria needs a release, and the techno music and outrageous makeup looks the MAC MUA’s sport, make for the perfect distraction.  Deliciously Rich Fluidline was part of the Divine Night Collection way back in October (years ago in MAC’s world).  This beautiful murky gray base mixed with an abundance of gold sparkle, instantly drew me in and screamed, “CREAM EYESHADOW!!!!!”  I yelled back, “COMING MY LOVE!!!”

The Savory:

If some of you are not familiar with MAC Fluidlines, they are the company’s version of a gel liner.  Generally speaking, the colors and textures of the Fluildlines are quite good (I prefer Bobbi Brown gel liners reviewed here).  Here comes the savory part, Deliciously Rich Fluidline is a horrible gel liner.  Yup, I said it.  The consistency of the gray base is very thin in comparison to the dense gold shimmer (aka: too sheer to be used as a liner bro). On an arm swatch, you can see and feel the almost “greasy” texture of the sheer base color; what is left is shimmer galore.

The Sweet:

Here comes the sweet portion, Deliciously Rich makes an attractive cream eyeshadow.  The color is a taupe(y) mushroom color that has a glistening effect on the lids.  Gorgeous!  This color combination would suit warm and cool skin tones alike.  Another alluring feature to note about this color is that the sparkles do not migrate downwardly on the face (with the exception of the rogue shimmer leftover on my eyelashes from application).  In my experience, with my eye shape and depth, the sparkles seem to transfer upwardly toward the brow bone. This actually adds a nice touch to the overall effect of my eye makeup.

Application:

There is a bit of a learning curve with the application of this little sweetheart.  As mentioned, because the base color is thin compared to the density of shimmer, a synthetic brush is a must.  I apply the first coat of DR with my ring finger, I let it settle for a minute and then reapply a second coat with my Sigma Concealer Brush (I only use this brush for cream shadow application).  I angle the brush tip toward my lashes and pull the color upwardly toward my brow bone (think…thin even layers).  Viola–beautiful color and sparkle saturation.  I also enjoyed the effect of placing DR as a second liner on top of my black liner.  I have even used this Fluidline as a base for bareMinerals Sex Kitten Eyeshadow and..BAM..talk about…..B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L (upcoming Thanksgiving Makeup tutorial).

Longevity:

MAC Deliciously Rich Fluidline lasted very well until it’s removal (ten hours).  In warmer conditions there was slightly more upward shimmer migration, especially noticeable in a humid pool environment (waiting for my son to finish his diving lessons).  Overall, I was more impressed with MAC Deliciously Rich Fluidline than Chanel Initiation Illusion D’Ombre eyeshadow (reviewed here).

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you to go see MAC Deliciously Rich Fluidline in person.  This gem may be brushed off as an inadequate gel liner, but I have found other wonderful uses for this deliciously rich color in my life. Won’t you try as well….Next up, my Thanksgiving Makeup Tutorial and Wayne Goss Makeup Brush #2 review… Be well and stay safe.
