My eyeshadow collection has gone through a major editing process.  Although I love eyeshadows and all they entail, I have reached a point in my life where amassing every new eyeshadow collection on the market just does not do it for me anymore. I’m all about quality, however when it comes to cosmetics, quality comes at a costly price.  Milani Bella Eyes Gel Powder Eyeshadows ($3.99 USD/1.4g) are the newest creations to have hit the cosmetics market.  The innovative gel power formula provides high quality pigmentation at affordable prices.  According to Milanicosmetics.com:

A gel powder – what would that even look like? We’ll tell you: It looks like rich, vibrant color that glides on in a single stroke, delivering a stunning multi-dimensional effect. What makes it a gel powder? Well, the formula starts as a gel and then is transformed by a special process into a stunning powder eyeshadow with pure color and power wear.

The unique process allows you to blend this incredibly innovative, weightless formula easily with your fingertips to light up your eyes. Even more to entice: It can used wet or dry, resists creasing, and comes in satin matte, shimmer and iridescent metallic finishes. You just have to try this gel powder. It’s that different.

Could these sparkling little thumbprint cookie-like creations be the drugstore gem I been searching for?  You’ll see 🙂

The Pros to Milani Bella Eyes Gel Powder Eyeshadows:

  1. Extremely affordable and accessible.
  2. Come in 30 shades:  13 satin mattes, 11 shimmer, and 6 metallic shades.
  3. Can be used dry or wet.
  4. Bright color selection.
  5. Easily blendable.
  6. Formulated without parabens or mineral oil.
  7. The metallic shades are vibrant and pigmented.
  8. Satin mattes can be worn by all age groups.
  9. Ideal for those who prefer less pigmented eyeshadows.
  10. Can be built-up for more intense color payoff.
  11. Lasts 6 hours with an eyeshadow primer.

The Cons to Milani Bella Eyes Gel Powder Eyeshadows:

  1. Eyeshadow fallout was present in all four colors even after I tapped my brush to eliminate excess shadow.
  2. With the exception of the Bella Copper, these shadows require a fair amount of color build-up for noticeable results.
  3. Fading (not creasing) occurred by the seventh hour.
  4. CVS sells these eyeshadows (where I purchased mine) for $4.79.  Milanicosmetics.com lists these for $3.99.
  5. Fingers are best used for more vibrant results; brushes somewhat dilute the color intensity.

I found Bella Copper’s metallic finish to be the most pigmented, followed by Bella Taupe and Bella Ivory. Bella Sand was a complete disappointment, even when applied wet the color was barely visible on my lids.**fingers were used for all swatches.

  • Bella Sand is a beautiful light golden shimmer shade.
  • Bella Copper is an intense copper metallic shade.
  • Bella Ivory is a brightening champagne satin matte shade.
  • Bella Taupe is a cool tone taupe satin matte shade.

For the above photos, I applied Bella Copper with my dampened ring finger to the mobile lid; this resulted in a bright metallic copper finish that was a bit over-the-top for my liking.  I rectified the situation by applying Bella Taupe directly over Bella Copper; a combination more suitable for everyday wear.  Vincent Longo Copper Kiss Bronzer was used in the crease, with Bella Ivory as a brow bone highlight (the finish is more like a frost than a satin matte).

Tom Ford Eye Defining Pen (reviewed here) was used for the liner.  My lower lash line color was my usual combination of Givenchy 9 Brun Cachemire (here) with Cargo Waterproof Bronzer.  Finally, Estee Lauder Crystal Baby Gelee (reviewed here) was applied to the inner corner of the eye.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you if you are on a budget and prefer subtle, yet, buildable eyeshadow colors, then Milani Bella Eyes Gel Powder Eyeshadows are for you.  Personally, I found the overall quality to be good, not the best, but certainly not the worst.  To quote Jim Carrey in Lair, Lair, “I’ve had Better.”  Love them or leave them..do tell.  Be well, stay safe and be happy.
