Nars Laguna Liquid Bronzer review and photos.

Nars Laguna Liquid Bronzer.

As the warmer weather approaches, bulky winter trapping are finally stored away and skin can finally breathe a sigh of relief.  However, once the sweaters and scarfs are stripped away, my pale and uneven complexion does not want to come out and play.  Nars Laguna Liquid Bronzer ($40 USD/ 1 fl. oz.) easily and quickly remedies my superficial insecurities, by providing me with just the right amount of vitality my skin has been missing.  I hope you enjoy!

The Pros to Nars Laguna Liquid Bronzer:

  1. Watery consistency blends seamlessly into the skin.
  2. Provides a satiny golden finish without offensive shimmer.
  3. Dries down quickly without feeling sticky or rubbing off on clothes.
  4. Skin does not feel dry–could be due to the Calophyllum Inophyllum Seed oil and Coconut oil and of course, silicones.
  5. Removes easily at night with a wash cloth.
  6. Lasts all day on my dry skin (summer time may yield varying results).
  7. Can be applied directly on bare skin, over foundation, mixed with primers, moisturizers and serums.
  8. Can be mixed in with lighter foundations to accommodate a summer tan.
  9. Builds-up quickly without any patchiness.
  10. Tan and darker skinned beauties can utilize this to even out complexion and provide a subtle radiance with minimal use of foundation.
  11. Golden coloring is especially flattering on more mature skins.
  12. Faint fragrance (reminds me of Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse) is barely detectable.
  13. Black opaque glass bottle contains a pump and looks incredibly chic.
  14. Formulated without mineral oil, parabens or DHA (Dihydroxyacetone read about this chemical here).
  15. Made in USA.

The Cons to Nars Laguna Liquid Bronzer:

  1. Rubberized top can get dirty quickly–when will Nars learn?
  2. Due to the subtle nature of the product and depending on skin tone, three to four pumps may be needed to reach a deep coloring.
  3. Can look orangey on lighter complexions if too much is applied–this is more aptly suited for those who prefer a golden finish rather than a ruddy tan.
  4. Oiler skins may find the slight luminous finish counter productive (see swatches below).
  5. When applied over a foundation, Liquid Laguna will rub off if you touch your face–quite predictable, considering all powdered bronzers perform in the same manner.

  • As you can tell by the above swatches, Nars Laguna Liquid Bronzer does contain gold micro shimmers (aka: mica) in the formula.  I can only surmise, this addition is intended to give the color more dimension, rather than leave the skin looking flat.  However, once on the skin, the golden mica particles are undetectable indoors; in the presence of natural sunlight, they emit a subtle radiance, but not in an Edward Cullen kind of way.
  • As mentioned above, the coloring of this formula is more golden, leaning towards the warm/orange septum of the tanning scale.  If you are one to favor ruddy undertone bronzers, then this offering is not for you.  Normally, my preference leans towards ruddy bronzers, but I’m finding as I get older my olive complexion looks more “healthy” when golden toned foundations and bronzers are utilized.

  • Currently, this bronzer is mainly used on bare skin to even out the complexion on my neck and décolletage area.  For experimental purposes, I have mixed this liquid bronzer into my primers and facial oils and have notice a beautiful effect on the skin.  Granted, I could go out in this manner, but my vanity insists I add a light layer of foundation just for good measure.  🙂

  • When utilizing this liquid bronzer for traditional bronzing purposes, I find a stippling brush to be the best delivery system.  The delicate synthetic fibers infuses the liquid on top of foundation gently without disturbing my base makeup.  My weapon of choice is the MAC 130 brush, the small head strategically fits the contours of the cheeks and forehead perfectly.
