Current Makeup Favorites.

In lieu of my Makeup of the Week I decided to update you all on my Current Makeup Favorites.  I hope you find this helpful and informative. **click on each item for a direct link to the product.

Base Makeup:

  1. Dr. Mercola Facial Sunscreen SPF 30:   The absolute best natural sunscreen.  I do not wear commercial sunscreen because I cannot tolerate the odor and the plethora of chemicals in the formula.  However, Dr. Mercola’s all natural line of sun protection products cannot be beat.  This is especially ideal for those with sensitive skin.
  2. Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer:  I really appreciate this primer in the summer.  It evens out your skintone and really does prolong the wear of your foundation.
  3. Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation:  Foundations come and go but EL Double Wear is my HG foundation.  This guy never lets me down, the longevity and finish cannot compare.  Apply EL Double Wear on well moisturized skin, with a damp brush/sponge and blend to perfection.  I love all of their  foundations.
  4. Edward Bess Concealer:  As of late, I had to revert back to wearing concealer and EB is one of my favorites.  I had the pleasure of meeting Edward at Bergdorf and he was just as lovely as he appears on TV; a true Southern Gentleman!

Eye Makeup:

  1. Laura Mercier Eye Canvas:  Great base for eyeshadows (reviewed here).
  2. MAC Mineralized Skinfinish Natural in Medium Plus:  I use this as an all over eyeshadow to even out my skin tone on my lids.  On occasion, I do use this on my face to set my face makeup.
  3. MAC Powerchrome Eye Pencils: Copper Strip (reviewed here) and Life’s Luxury (reviewed here).
  4. Prestige Total Intensity Eyeshadow in Wicked: (reviewed here).
  5. Clinique True Black cream eyeliner:  Wonderfully black, smooth, long lasting and relatively inexpensive for a high end brand.
  6. Inglot #89 Matte AMC Eyeliner Gel:  The only color/formula that will last on my upper waterline for tight lining purposes.
  7. L’Oreal Telescpic Mascara and Prestige My Blackest Lash Mascara:  The L’Oreal is for lengthening and Prestige is for giving volume.  Both can be found in any drugstore.
  8. Shu Uemura Eyebrow pencil in Seal Brown 02:  A naturally flattering color for my dark brows.

Face Makeup:

  1. Laura Mercier Ritual Bronzer Blush:  One of the best bronzer to have come out this year.  It was limited edition and is sold out online.  Check your local Sephora locations and LM counters for availability (reviewed here).
  2. Laura Mercier Highlight 01:  Beautiful neutral colored highlighter that can be used wet or dry (reviewed here).
  3. Bobbi Brown Pale Pink blush:  This color is universally flattering on everyone.  It is matte and extremely long lasting.  BB has one of the best blush formulas around.
  4. MAC Sweet As Cocoa:  Rosey Bronze blush can also be used to deepen a matte bronzer, as an eyeshadow, and a blend out color (reviewed here).
  5. Skindinavia Finishing Spray:  Admittedly, I do not use many finishing powders in the summer time.  I do use this spray to prolong the wear of my bronzer and blush and to help meld all the colors together on my face.

Lip Makeup:

  1. Daliia Lip Stain in Runway Fashion Fuchsia:  Love the naturalness, longevity, color, and wear of this lip stain.  I may have to pick up another one (reviewed here).  My Best Friend’s Red lip stain is next on the list.
  2. Dior Addict Lipstick:  These are wonderfully creamy and smooth.  They will not dry out your lips and last nicely paired with a long lasting lipliner  (reviewed here).
  3. Shiseido Rouge Lacquer Liquid Lipsticks:  The best liquid lipstick I have found, they do not contain any fragance or flavoring, long lasting, wears off evenly and pairs beautifully with Daliia’s lips stain; will not cause it to break down or bleed into your fine lines.

Makeup Bag:

  1. Tory Burch Makeup Bag:   A wonderful addition to my makeup family.  This bag is roomy enough to fit all of your essentials and more.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you to invest in products you know you will use and love.  Do not be a moth to the makeup flame, stick to what works.  Now, if only I would take my own advise 🙂   To be continued….with current brush favorites.  Be well and stay safe.

Prestige Obsession and Wicked Total Intensity Eyeshadow review and swatches.

Prestige Total Intensity Eyeshadow in Obsession and Wicked.

Prestige Obsession and Wicked Total Intensity Eyeshadow

While walking through Harmon Drugstore looking to purchase my favorite makeup remover, my attention suddenly shifted to the Prestige Cosmetics display.  I was taken aback by their new single eyeshadow colors; the promise of high intensity long-lasting color piqued my curiosity.  Without any voluntary control of my arms and hands, I reached for Prestige Obsession and Wicked Total Intensity Eyeshadow [long-term relationship fierce color eyeshadow] ($6-9 US/ 2g.).  The bright metallic blue and sparkling golden brown were too enchanting to resist!

The Formula:

Prestige has appropriately named these shadows long-term relationship.  The pigmentation, wear and silkiness of Obsession and Wicked are right up there with MAC, Nars, and Urban Decay eyeshadows. Quite frankly, there are some Chanel shadows I do not use anymore because I grew weary of the poor quality. Obsession and Wicked layer evenly and exude such depth, one would never think these are drugstore eyeshadows.  I was able to get more intense pigmentation when I applied these colors with my fingers.

The Color:

Obsession is a beautiful bright metallic blue color.  This shade’s texture reminds me of MAC ‘s Starflash formula, very creamy.  I prefer to darken Obsession by mixing it with a black shadow to create a deep metallic navy blue color, suitable for those of us who are not sixteen anymore. This combination is simply gorgeous!  Obsession lasted moderately well in an air-conditioned environment. Similar to how MAC’s Starflash shadows perform on me, it did fade slightly after a few hours.  I presume the creaminess of this shade caused the migration. However, when I place Obsession on top of Estee Lauder Double Wear cream shadow in Blue Velvet the color did not budge.  Bobbi Brown long wear gel liner in Denim Ink also works as a base for Obsession.

Wicked is a neutral brown color with specks of micro gold shimmers, this is similar to MAC’s Cork, but on an elevated level.  On me, Wicked does transform into a very warm brown.  The shimmers evolve more into a sheen when placed on the eye.  Wicked paired very nicely with my brown eyes for a fast and polished look, blue eye beauties will also find this color quite complimentary.  Wicked was not as creamy as Obsession, I suspect that is why it lasted on me, on its own, all day, without any fading or migration.

Both eyeshadows are Paraben and Petrolatum free.  The amount/price ratio cannot be beat, these are larger than MAC eyeshadows and cost half the price.  Regularly, Prestige Total Intensity Eyeshadows retail for $8.50 (US),  however I acquired mine on sale (at Harmon) for $5.49 (US).  Not bad!

My only criticism is Prestige Total Intensity line does not offer any matte shades.  They do offer duo-chrome shades, one in particular (Hocus Pocus) is very reminiscent of MAC’s Club eyeshadow.

Prestige Cosmetics are sold at Ulta, Harmon Face Value, Rite Aid, Walmart, and online at Amazon.com, Prestigecosmetics.com, etc.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Prestige Obsession and Wicked Total Intensity Eyeshadow are total worth every cent.  Prestige is my favorite drugstore cosmetics brand and now I feel completely justified with that sentiment. Paula’s Choice (read here) also held these eyeshadows in high regard.  There are ten colors in the lineup and hopefully more to come.  Prestige also offers four trios in the same line.  Those are on my “to buy” list, all in the name of research 🙂  Oh boy, I feel another Obsession coming on…my Wicked sense of possession is in full gear.  This will be a “long-term relationship” for sure.  Be well and stay safe.
