Another year has flown by and we are always left with this overwhelming feeling of contemplation. Reflection, regret and resolutions seem to dominate our consciousness during this time of year.  However, when it comes to beauty purchases, reflection can be helpful, regret is useless and I solemnly swear to be a resolute consumer of all beauty items that make me smile 🙂  I hope you enjoy my Top Beauty Items of 2013.

RMS Beauty Buriti Bronzer review and photos.

RMS Beauty Buriti Bronzer.

RMS Beauty Buriti Bronzer.

Winter is a precarious time of year (makeup-wise).  If you live in colder climates, lack of sun exposure makes complexions paler, flatter and less vibrant when compared to spring and summer.  Personally, my olive skin tone in the winter time looks downright sickly.  A good bronzer is essential in my makeup routine. Finding a bronzer that is completely devoid of an orange undertone, moisturizing, and natural can be challenging.  Since my success with RMS Living Luminizer (reviewed here), I decided to try RMS Beauty Buriti Bronzer ($28 US/ 5.68g).  Without getting too ahead of myself, I can unequivocally say this was one of the best purchases I ever made.

According to Dermstore:

RMS Beauty Buriti Bronzer is a sheer, non-greasy formula that delivers a sun-kissed look to your complexion without the sun’s harmful effects. Formulated with buriti oil from Brazil, its rich in vitamin E to moisturize and renew to enhance a natural radiance.

The Pros:

  1. 100% natural and organic.
  2. Extremely moisturizing.
  3. Fingers or a synthetic flat top brush can be use to apply BB.
  4. Glass container is sanitary and sturdy.
  5. Completely devoid of any orange undertones.
  6. The overall tone of this bronzer mimics the color of a natural tan.
  7. The sheer color formulation makes this bronzer suitable for light to medium skin tones.
  8. Darker-skinned beauties can use BB as a highlighter.
  9. Fantastic staying power (8 hours +).
  10. The color can be built-up without looking muddy or patchy.
  11. The gray/red undertones makes this color perfect for contouring or all-over bronzing.
  12. In combination with the Living Luminizer, the complexion is soft, natural and radiant.
  13. Does not get greasy looking throughout the day.
  14. Small compact packaging fits conveniently in any cosmetic bag.
  15. A powder bronzer can be applied on top of BB if so desired.
  16. No artificial fragrance or shimmer.
  17. Buriti Bronzer pairs perfectly with any cream or powder blush of your choosing.

The Cons:

  1. Application is not as quick as a powder bronzer.
  2. Longevity is questionable on oiler skins, unless paired with a powder bronzer.
  3. Natural hair brushes will not pick-up or distribute the product evenly.
  4. Small opening limits the type of brushes that can be used.
  5. Due to the natural composition, Buriti Bronzer does not set and will rub-off if your face is touched.

Application:

I like to first apply BB with my fingers to “outline” where I want my contour color to be placed.  Then I simply use my Philosophy Supernatural Airbrush Brush (or fingers) to blend out the color.  It goes without saying, just like Living Luminizer, Buriti Bronzer must be stored in a cool environment during the summer time.  Even though BB is presently a solidified mass, it is not as difficult to “warm-up” as Living Luminizer.  I could just as easily use my foundation brush to apply the color directly to my face.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you if you have dry skin and seek a bronzer of natural composition and color, then RMS Beauty Buriti Bronzer is for you.  Of course, because skin tones vary, make certain to purchase Buriti Bronzer from an online retailer with a generous return policy.  Dermstore.com is hands down the best online retailer in terms of customer service, return policy and selection.
