Makeup of the Week Ninth Edition.

Makeup of the Week Ninth Edition.

Makeup of the Week Ninth Edition.

This week’s look was fast and easy using minimal products (for me at least).  The theme for the week was rediscovery; to use forgotten products within my collection.  Usually I’m pretty good at deciphering what will work for me in the long run and what will end-up in my “donation basket.”  However, it is wise to try to use these products again before discarding them or giving them away. Absence does make the heart grow fonder, thus making the reunion that much sweeter 🙂  Enjoy!

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you as time passes your perceptions and taste will change.  Products that may not have worked for you in the past should be given another chance.  You never know, you may find a new use for them in your present routine.  I rediscovered Burberry Summer Glow Palette’s bronzer half worked perfectly with my current coloring.  Edward Bess Luxury Eye Brush head is a bit too big to use as a sole eyeshadow brush, but I rediscovered its magical ability to blend out any color to perfection.  MAC Too Chic Beauty Powder imparts a flattering subtle golden highlight color, appropriate for a daytime chic makeup look.  What have you rediscovered in your stash lately?  Be well and stay safe.

Tom Ford Lipsticks: The Bad, The Good and the Ugly.

Tom Ford Lipsticks: Black Orchid, Pink Adobe, Casablanca, Aphrodisiac.

Tom Ford Lipsticks:

Tom Ford Lipstick:

WHAT IS A LIPSTICK IF NOT AN ATTENTION GETTER, A STYLE INDICATOR,  and AN UNDENIABLE BEACON OF SEXUALITY AND SENSUOUSNESS.   Choosing the correct hue can attract attention from a variety of sources (George Clooney vs. Flavor Fav…Yeahhhhh Boyyyyy….you decide).  The tackiest of colors can indicate one is stuck in an alternate reality or decade; darker lipliner combined with frosted pink lipstick anyone.   The perfect RED can showcase your confidence and tell the world, “I am woman hear me ROAR!!!”  OH YES…I like this one!!!

The Bad:

What is the point to all this ramble M?  Be patient…I’ll tell you.  Women need to invest in a formula and color that will  suit their skin tone, has a modern texture and is comfortable to wear.  Is Tom Ford Beauty the answer?  Yes and No!!!  “WTF (what the fudge..keeping it clean ladies) Maria,  how can you blaspheme the great TF?”  you ask.  Allow me to explain, TF lipsticks are like the Spiderman of the cosmetics industry. Someone should have told Tommy, “With great [lipstick] comes great responsibility.”  The formula feels heavenly on initial application, then something happens, two hours later my lips start to tighten and feel dry. I resolve this issue by applying another layer of lipstick or a gloss very sparingly.   The wear time is average; I am able to wear these lipsticks for four hours without eating, drinking or much speaking.  The marketing for TF lipstick claims to give the wearer comfortable long-lasting color.  Not in my case.   So why do I own 4 tubes?  That brings me to……

The Good:

Were you aware I am a label snob…No?  Well consider yourself informed 🙂   More importantly, TF lipsticks do not bleed/ feather on into my fine lines around my lips.  Very crucial if you are ahead in the age category.   Yes,  ladies and gentlemen my name is Maria and I have a feathering problem.  Feathering is when lipstick travels or bleeds into the fine lines around your lips.  Not a cute look!!!  This inevitably happens to me with all colors not just the reds.  Emollient lipsticks tend to be the biggest culprits of feathering.  TF is not too matte and not too emollient, it’s just right.  This lipstick has a saturated base with a sophisticated glossy finish.  They also wear off evenly.  Another huge plus (my biggest attraction), is the lack of heavily scented fragrance and no discernible flavoring, unlike  Chanel, Dior, and Guerlain lipsticks.  There is a delicate vanilla scent which is imperceptible after five minutes!  The packaging is sleek and simple with 18 shades to choose from.  Will I purchase any more TF lipsticks?  That brings me to…

LIPSTICK: Tom Ford lipstick Pink Adobe.
LIPLINER: MAC prolong wear in Nice n’ Spicy.
Added Shiseido RD203 Lacquer Rouge to combat dryness.

The Ugly:

I would not repurchase any time soon.  Why?  These lipsticks retail for $49 US/3g.  Are they worth the price?   It all depends on your budget, needs, and wants.  I am very content with my little collection, which has taken awhile to amass.  There are other brands and newer formulations that are always coming out. Some people enjoy the process of makeup application; owning and using a designer cosmetic product adds to the experience and enhances their enjoyment.  However, you can buy three MAC lipsticks for the price of one TF.  Comparatively, Chanel, Giorgio Armani, some Guerlain and Dior lipstick are priced in the low to mid-thirties.  Those houses have been around A LOT longer, just saying!!  The formula of these lipsticks are very nice, but not perfect.  In fact, TF boasts the longest ingredient list for a lipstick I have ever seen.

TF is owned by the Estee Lauder Company;  they also own  MAC, Bobbi Brown, Clinique, Smashbox, Origins, DKNY, Jo Malone, Bumble and Bumble, etc..  You can purchase TF in person only at  Saks in NYC, Bergdorf, select Neiman Marcus locations and Nordstrom.com, Saks.com, etc.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you it has a secret to reveal.  Come a little closer……closer……closer…ok, close enough…. get a breath mint 🙂   You can get Tom Ford lipsticks for $33.75 at your local CCO (Cosmetic Company Outlets to the novices).  Google, Tangers Outlet and most likely there will be a CCO at that location.  Bottom line, for the retail price of $49, these lipsticks should magically open on their own, apply themselves on my lips and give me the ability to hypnotize George Clooney into submission!!! One can dream….. However, if you prefer Flavor Flav…..Houston we have a problem……Choose wisely grasshopper!!!   Be well and stay safe!!
