Cle De Peau Beaute 13 Sand Beige Luminizing Face Enhancer Gets it Right.

Cle de Peau Beaute

Cle de Peau Beaute 13 Sand Beige Luminizing Face Enhancer.

Once upon a time, many years ago, I was but a hopeless young woman seeking her first foundation. Naturally, I sought the help of a lovely MUA that graciously directed my attention (and business) to the Cle de Peau Beaute counter.  All the wonderfully packaged cosmetics mesmerized my senses and I shamelessly (aka: superficially) fell-in-love.  Fast forward to the present day, my naive nature has drastically diminished, but the charms of Cle de Peau Beaute 13 Sand Beige Luminizing Face Enhancer ($55 USD/10g) immediately captured my heart, bringing back all those wicked temptations…this prismatic enchantress had me at…HELLO 🙂

Cle de Peau 13 Sand Beige

The spectacular four-color design is what sets this highlighter apart from others on the market.  A color blend of bronze, tan, beige and peach meld beautifully together to create a warm complex subtle golden shade.  This particular color definitely suits warmer skins more so than it’s paler/pinker sister, 14 Delicate Pink (reviewed here).  The sophisticated peach pearl really does impart a smooth radiance, which dare I say, looks quite natural.

My preferred method of application involves using a slightly dampened dense brush (Tom Ford Cream Foundation Brush) and sweeping the brush in a downward motion (not swirling), making sure to pickup all the colors in the pan.  I lightly tap off any excess (which should be minimal) and then gently apply the color to the tops of my cheeks using the same downward motions on the targeted areas.  The dampened conditions keep the soft powder from kicking up, intensifying the color and increasing the longevity (lasts all day).

Foundation, Cle de Peau Beaute 13 Sand Beige, and eyeshadows housed in my MAC Palette with Tom Ford Cream Foundation Brush.

The amount given is quite substantial; the pan itself is rather long and deep, making this one time purchase a lifelong investment.  As you may recall, Cle de Peau does sell an accompanying plastic compact for an additional $45.  This time around, I opted to purchase the refill option (fool me once people) and place my golden goddess in my MAC palette, which incidentally, costs only $8 and houses my powder foundations, highlighter and eyeshadows.

Cle de Peau Beaute 13 Sand Beige

Cle de Peau Beaute 13 Sand Beige Luminizing Face Enhancer ingredient list.

The ingredients of this gem are mostly artificial.  The addition of Argan Oil and Mortierella Oil are nice touches, but the overall components are made from your garden variety of silicones, some unpronounceable substances and mineral oil (5th ingredient which I suspect is responsible for the smooth application and feel).  This formula is manufactured in Japan and thankfully, paraben-free.

As you can tell from the above photo, the overall effect is unbelievably smooth.  The texture of Sand Beige is perfect for those individuals who work in a professional environment and require a subtle finish, for those who prefer a contained pearl finish rather than shimmer/glitter, and for those who demand beautiful presentation to match cost.

**Cle de Peau Beaute is sold in the States at Saks, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys, and online at cledepeaubeaute.com.**

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Cle de Peau Beaute 13 Sand Beige Luminizing Face Enhancer is a wonderful highlighter that performs as promised.  The smooth formula, subtle warm golden shade, sophisticated finish and substantial amount has restored my interest in this brand.  This goes beyond pretty, and borders on necessary…at least for me at the present moment. 🙂  Will this stop me from investing in other brands?  Come now–as we speak, Kjear Weis Radiance Highlighter is on its merry way to my home–a lemming I totally blame on Maeve from Lilting-grace.blogspot.com (she did a fabulous review on KW cream blush here).  Until next time, be well, stay safe and be happy.

Valentines Day Makeup 2015: Sweet and Sexy.

Valentines Day Makeup

Valentines Day Makeup: Sweet and Sexy.

I remember when Valentines Day was filled with romance, dinners, and flowers.  These days, this day of love has shifted to cuddling on the couch and catching up on all of our favorite TV shows (currently Once and Teen Wolf) with as side of popcorn and our babies.  Do I need to look this fancy in the presence of a television set, my teenage boy, my ten-year old and my hubby who perpetually passes out within the first 10 minutes of the show?  In the immortal words of Sarah Palin, “You Betcha.”

***As usual, Nars Eyeshadow Primer was used prior to eyeshadow application and Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow Maestro in 2 Wedge Wood was used to sculpt the brows.

MAC Uninterrupted

  • Using the same tapered blending brush, apply MAC Uninterrupted to the outer “v” area and slightly into the crease.  It may seem like a lot of colors added to the crease, but this look is all about using different colors in light layers to add depth and dimension.

  • Add your favorite liquid eyeliner (Guerlain Liquid Liner 2 Bleu Outremer) and draw a dramatic wing to elongate the eye.  Use a pointed Q-Tip, dipped in lotion, to sharpen and lift the edge of your wing–what a difference the liner makes; my eyes instantly appear larger and more youthful.

Valentines Day Makeup:
Giorgio Armani 9 Gold Eye and Brow Maestro added on top of MAC Uninterrupted.

  • This step is totally optionally, but I think the addition of a golden topper shade (Giorgio Armani 9 Gold Eye and Brow Maestro) on top of MAC Uninterrupted, gives the eyes a glistening quality–plus it just looks so darn pretty 🙂
Vincent Longo Mermaid Muse .

Valentines Day Makeup:

  • Using an angled dual fiber eyeshadow brush (Billy B #12), add your favorite highlight color (Vincent Longo Mermaid Muse) to the inner corner of the eye to really make eyes appear bright and awake.
Clinique High-Impact Mascara.

Valentines Day Makeup:
Completed look with Clinique High-Impact Mascara.

  • Add your favorite mascara to complete the look.  If my eyes did not tear-up so badly as a reaction to the cold weather, I would have certainly added a dark brown eyeliner on the lower waterline for a more dramatic effect.

Valentines Day Face Makeup:

  1. Guerlain Powder Foundation
  2. Dior Star Concealer
  3. Laura Mercier Ritual Bronzer used lightly as a blush and bronzer.
  4. Vincent Longo Mermaid Muse used as a highlighter for the upper cheeks.

Valentines Day Lip Combo:

  1. Girlactik Demure Matte Lip Paint.
  2. Estee Lauder Impulsive Pure Color Envy Lipstick.

  • It goes without saying, add or omit any step you see fit and substitute any of the products shown with things in your own collection.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you the smoldering earthy tones coupled with the naturally wholesome pink hues definitely makes this look appealing for any special night out.  I could have easily worn a red lip, but then the feel would have been more sensual than sweet.  Regardless, of how or when you choose to wear this look, you can be certain heads will turn in your favor 🙂   Until next time, be well, stay safe and be happy.

The Cons to Vincent Longo Mermaid Muse Water Canvas Highlighter:

  1. Very few in-person retail locations…the brand is mostly sold online.
  2. Ingredients on my box (purchased from another authorized VL retailer) differs from that on vincentlongo.com.  My pot is formulated with mineral oil, BHT, and Methylparaben.  Ingredients on Vincentlongo.com:

Water (Aqua), Butylene Glycol, Talc, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Glycerin, Agar, Silica, Phytosteryl/behenyl/octyldodecyl Lauroyl Glutamate, Tocopherol. –

For the above photo, Mermaid Muse was used on the mobile lid, for an inner corner highlighter and above the cheeks bones.  The formula blended beautifully in all areas and the color lasted for 12 hours without any fading.

Comparison Swatches to Vincent Longo Mermaid Muse:

Cream Highlighter Comparison Swatches:

Cream Highlighter Comparison Swatches:
MAC Hush Cream Colored Base, Vincent Longo Mermaid Muse, It Cosmetics Hello Light Cream Illuminator, and Edward Bess Sunlight.

  • MAC Hush Cream Colored Base warm peach coloring closely resembles Mermaid Muse, but the longevity is nowhere near as amazing.
  • Vincent Longo Mermaid Muse is the perfect balance of pink and peach.  The ultra fine silver pearl gives the warm base color the added edge that makes this color work on both warm and cool skins alike.
  • It Cosmetics Hello Light Cream Illuminator is a white base cream highlighter with pink undertones. Personally, this color is too striking against my olive complexion; however, this offering is the ideal color for light, cool-skinned complexions.
  • Edward Bess Sunlight is a light golden color that is wonderful for brightening up any complexion, I only wish it was more reasonably priced.

The above photo shows how beautifully Mermaid Muse pairs with various powder highlighters.  Personally, my favorite combo is Mermaid Muse topped with Cle De Peau 13 Sand Beige.  Even though Mermaid Muse has impressive lasting power on its own, the addition of the power highlighter gave this combo unbelievable resilience.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Vincent Longo Mermaid Muse Water Canvas Highlighter is a truly beautiful product. The color, the cooling sensation, the texture, the longevity and the versatility are what makes this product a definite winner in my book.  If you have difficulty maintaining your highlight color (due to oily skin, constant face touching, etc.), then this product is for you.  As for myself, I can foresee utilizing this beauty (despite the paraben factor) for the remainder of the winter.  Until next time, be well, stay safe and be happy.
