Have you ever watched a youtube beauty video and become transfixed by the person’s lipstick? Recently, while watching one of my favorite youtube personalities, Donnashorts1 (here) that very thing happened to me.  This is a woman who knows her higher-end cosmetics, so imagine my surprise when she revealed the color that had captivated my attention was, Wet n Wild Megalast Lipstick (918D) Cherry Bomb ($1.50-$2.99 US/3.3g).  Could it be a drugstore lipstick would meet most of my expectations?  You’ll see 🙂

The Pros to Wet n Wild Megalast Lip Color:

  1. Highly affordable and accessible.
  2. No flavoring or scent.
  3. Highly pigmented.
  4. Smooth satin formula dries down to a matte finish after 2 hours.
  5. Certain colors apply smoothly without tugging and dragging on the lips.
  6. Long-lasting color (4-5 hours) leaves behind a very noticeable stain when the color has worn off.
  7. Formulated without parabens (some website list proplyparaben and BHT as ingredients, however the ingredient list on all six of my tubes do not have these two ingredients included).
  8. Comes in 26 shades.
  9. Black packaging is not as gaudy as many drugstore lipstick designs.
  10. Pairs beautifully with MAC Pro Longwear lip pencils.
  11. Multiple tubes of the same shade can be purchased to store at work, home and in the car.  As an added bonus, if you happen to misplace a tube of your favorite color, your bank account and heart will not break over the loss 🙂

The Cons to Wet n Wild Megalast Lip Color:

  1. A substantial portion of the lipstick bullet sticks out of the black tubing.  Careful maneuvering of the cap is essential to avoid damage to the lipstick.
  2. A lip balm is highly recommended, the matte/satin formula becomes drying after a couple of hours.
  3. Certain colors are dry and can tug on the lips during application.  (905D) Smokin’ Hot Pink and (902C) Bare It All were the biggest culprits.
  4. If a heavy hand is used during application, feathering will occur.
  5. Adding another layer after three hours can look caky and result in feathering. Remove the existing layer and start fresh.
  6. Mineral oil is used as an ingredient.

Lip Swatches:

Wet n Wild Megalast Lip Color (908C) Sugar Plum.

Wet n Wild Megalast Lip Color (908C) Sugar Plum.

(908C) Sugar Plum is a deep purple/magenta color that looks downright unwearable in the tube, but applies smoothly and vibrantly.  My husband noticed this color right away and commented how flattering and brighting it appeared.

Wet n Wild Megalast Lip Color (915B) Spiked with Rum.

Wet n Wild Megalast Lip Color (915B) Spiked with Rum.

(915B) Spiked with Rum is the most versatile color of the bunch.  Great everyday color would suit a variety of makeup looks and skin tones.

Wet n Wild Megalast Lip Color (918D) Cherry Bomb.

Wet n Wild Megalast Lip Color (918D) Cherry Bomb.

(918D) Cherry Bomb is my favorite shade.  This shade is very comparable in color to TF Black Orchid and also is a great dupe for Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope Lipstick in Entourage ($50US/3.5g).  However, do apply thin layers to avoid feathering.  I find if you blot between layers, feathering is greatly reduced.

Wet n Wild Megalast Lip Color (911D) Stoplight Red.

Wet n Wild Megalast Lip Color (911D) Stoplight Red.

(911D) Stoplight Red is a straight-up bright blue tone red.  This is the lipstick version of MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Trust in Red.  I love to mix this shade with (918D) Cherry Bomb to create an oxblood type color.

Wet n Wild Megalast Lip Color (902C) Bare It All.

Wet n Wild Megalast Lip Color (902C) Bare It All.

(902C) Bare It All is the typical 60’s nude shade.  The warm undertone makes this shade suitable for warm and olive skin tones.  I really was diggin’ (60’s lingo) this shade in the privacy of my own home, but I could not fathom wearing it in public.  However, I know so many ladies that would look phenomenal in this shade.

Wet n Wild Megalast Lip Color (905D) Smokin' Hot Pink.

Wet n Wild Megalast Lip Color (905D) Smokin’ Hot Pink.

(905D) Smokin’ Hot Pink is a beautiful bright warm pink that would look spectacular with a tan.  If you missed out on TF Aphrodisiac, then this shade would make for a good color substitute.

Normally, I would never think of comparing high-end lipsticks with the drugstore variety (sounds so snobby); however, while photographing Wet n Wild Megalast Lip Colors, I did see a striking similarity in color to my Tom Ford Lipsticks (reviewed here) and Bite Beauty Mulberry lipstick.  Obviously, Tom Ford lipsticks are smoother and more luxurious in texture and feel, but in regards to price and color payoff, Wet n Wild Lip Colors are amazing. Oh and lest not forget, you can buy all 26 Wet n Wild shades (on sale) for the price of one Tom Ford Lipstick….Things that make you go..hmmmmm..

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you based on the pigmentation, formulation, availability and affordability you cannot go wrong with Wet n Wild Megalast Lip Colors.  As an additional incentive, WnW is usually on sale at most drugstore location.  At the time of my purchase, Rite Aid was having a BOGHO on all WnW products. My mini haul cost $13.50 minus a $3.00 coupon, bringing my grand total to $10.50 for 6 lipsticks.  Does this mean the end of my higher end lip product purchases?   A moment of frugality, cannot reform me so easily 🙂  Be well and stay safe.

Nail of the Week.

Nail of the Week: Wet-n-Wild 2% Milk with Deborah Lippman Bring on the Bling.

Nail of the Week:
Wet-n-Wild 2% Milk with Deborah Lippman Bring on the Bling in full sun.

I thought I would share with you a quick post on what I have been wearing on my nails for the past few weeks.  If you are like me and have difficulty finding an ideal nude colored polish, then the following  color combination maybe to your liking.  For this Nail of the Week, Wet-n-Wild 2% Milk was used along with Deborah Lippmann Bring on the Bling on top, for a little added…bling, to the nails.  I hope you enjoy and find this helpful.

Nail of the Week: Wet-n-Wild 2% Milk with Deborah Lippman Bring on the Bling.

Nail of the Week:
Wet-n-Wild 2% Milk with Deborah Lippman Bring on the Bling.

Wet-n-Wild 2% Milk Megalast Nail Color ($1.99 US/ .45 fl. oz.) is a sheer ivory shade with enough of a warm beige tone to flatter a variety of skin tones.  I have worn this color on its own for a quick no fuss sophisticated nail.  Two coats are all it takes to achieve opacity.  Just like Haze of Love (reviewed here) the longevity is just as impressive as any high-end polish without the insane price tag.

Deborah Lippmann Bring on the Bling ($20 US/ .5 fl. oz.) is definitely more of an indulgence.  My bottle has been in my collection for two years.  I find that one coat of this gleaming transparent shade adds an extra something special to any cream finish nail color.  Deborah Lippmann uses micronized virgin diamond powder instead of glitter to make this shade.  The sparkles are noticeable indoors; however, in the sunlight the shimmers have a unique twinkling effect like no other polish.

Nail Swatches: Deborah Lippmann bring on the Bling, Wet-n-Wild 2% Milk, both colors combined.

Nail Swatches L-R:
Deborah Lippmann Bring on the Bling 2 coats, Wet-n-Wild 2% Milk 2 coats, both colors combined 2 coats WW with 1 coat of BOTB.

Wet-n-Wild can be found in Rite Aid, CVS, Harmon, Walgreens and drugstore.com.  Deborah Lippmann can be found at Nordstrom, amazon.com, dermstore.com, zappos.com, etc…

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you this combo is a winner in my book.  Wet-n-Wild 2% Milk, has to be the most flattering nude color I have ever come across.  This creamy white shade would also look spectacular with a tan and on darker-skinned beauties.  Deborah Lippmann Bring on the Bling, adds just the right amount of interest to an otherwise plan nail.  Both colors have won my heart.   What are you wearing lately?  Be well and stay safe.

NOTW: Wet n Wild 215B Haze of Love

Wet n Wild Haze of Love 215B Megalast nail polish.

With flash:  Wet n Wild Haze of Love 215B megalast nail polish.

There are very few things in this world that truly surprise me.  For instance, I was not surprised when Ashton left Demi for ladies of his own age.  I was not surprised when George broke-up with Elizabeta (my archenemy).  I was not surprised when JLo announced her divorce from Mark Anthony and ended up with a 25-year-old boyfriend.  What do you think will happen to that union?  Writing on the wall people! However, I was surprised by Wet n Wild 215B Haze of Love Megalast Nail Polish ($1.99 US/.45 fl. oz.). This little gem was really an unexpected find at the drugstore.

Natural Light:  Wet n Wild 215B Haze of Love megalast nail polish.

The Pros:

The formula for Wet n Wild 215B Haze of Love megalast nail polish is wonderful!   According to Wet n Wild,  the megalast formula are:

Long-lasting, opaque color provides 5 days of chip-resistant wear. A revolutionary resin polymer system creates exceptional color adhesion to nails. This resilient polish is calcium and mineral fortified to rebalance and prevent nail discoloration. Comes with a unique, full-coverage brush that glides on smooth for one-stroke application. Toluene, phthalate, and formaldehyde free.

The color 215B Haze of Love is a plum red shade with a brown undertone; very flattering on warmer skin tones.  In certain lighting Haze of Love pulls more brown than plum.  This polish is a cream formula, has a medium consistency and glides on the nails very smoothly.  The color builds up nicely in two coats without any streaks or bubbling in sight.  The end result is surprisingly glossy.  Typically, this sort of color would be featured in the Fall, but I must go against conventional style and sport this color in Spring/Summer.  For those who are not as bold, Haze of Love would make an excellent pedicure color.  Have I mentioned the price?  Two dollars is the maximum price for these polishes.  I purchased mine at Rite Aid on sale for a whopping $1.29.  Who doesn’t love a bargain?

The Cons:

This review would not be complete without careful examination of the brush.  Wet n Wild megalast polishes have an absurdly wide brush.  It is inconceivable to me who designed this “paint” brush.  The nail polish industry realizes the importance of designing a brush with substantial girth; wider brushes equate fewer strokes, easier application and smoother results.  Wet n Wild Megalast line has taken that idea and run amok.

Brush Comparison: Estee Lauder, Rococo, Dior, Wet n Wild, Chanel, OPI.

Brush Comparison: Estee Lauder, Rococo, Dior, Wet n Wild, Chanel, OPI.

Will this deter me from future Wet n Wild Megalast Nail Polish purchases?  No…but I can see people with short/narrow nail beds completely overlooking this line.  215B Haze of Love lasted on me just as long my Chanel polishes (four days).  As always, wear time varies according to one’s activities.

There are 18 colors in the megalast line.  Wet n Wild is sold at Rite Aid, Harmon, Walgreens, CVS.com, drugstore.com, etc..

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you to go check out the sale on Wet n Wild this week at Rite Aid.  Who will be able to resist a two dollar nail polish that performs just as well as high-end brands?   The brush width does pose a problem, those with narrow nail beds will find application challenging.  Wet n Wild 215B Haze of Love Megalast Nail Polish is worth a try and if you are not interested, bored, displeased, or unenthused, emulate our fellow celebrity misfits and wonder aimlessly seeking a replacement (for nail polish…not love) in a Haze of [Disgust].  Have you tried any of these polishes?   Be well and stay safe.
