Cargo Napa Essential Lip Color review and photos.

Cargo Napa Essential Lip Color.

Cargo Napa Essential Lip Color.

Cargo Cosmetics produce some really great products.  Personally, their Water-Resistant Bronzer (used as an eyeshadow) is a staple in my collection, the HD setting powder, HD concealer and blushes are highly praised on many youtube videos and blogs.  So naturally my confidence in this brand lead me to Cargo Napa Essential Lip Color ($22 USD/2.8g).  This highly pigmented deep plum/berry shade has proven itself to be one of the most welcoming surprises of the New Year.

The Pros to Cargo Napa Essential Lip Color:

  1. Beautiful deep plum/berry shade.
  2. Densely pigmented formula adheres to the lips instantly and applies opaquely in one coat.
  3. Ultra hydrating formula makes lips appear fuller.
  4. Glossy appearance dries down to a stain finish after a couple of hours.
  5. Can be worn without a lipliner…NO FEATHERING/COLOR BLEEDING!!!
  6. Ideal formula for everyone–especially more mature skins and those that suffer from dry cracking lips.
  7. Amazing longevity; lasted 5 hours (while talking and drinking with a straw).
  8. An additional light layer can be applied over an existing layer, without feeling caky or color bleeding.
  9. Rich pigment wears off evenly throughout the day, leaving behind a lasting stain.
  10. Small lightweight packaging can fit into the smallest of handbags.
  11. Color adapts beautifully to a variety of lipliners/bases.
  12. Made without fragrance, mineral oil, or parabens.
  13. Contains olive oil, jojoba oil, cocoa butter, shea butter, and avocado oil.
  14. Amount/price ratio ($7.80 per oz.) works out to be the best deal amongst some high-end brands (Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy $8.50 per oz., YSL The Mats $10 per oz., Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope $14.28 per oz.).
  15. 12 shades offered.
  16. Made in the USA.

The Cons to Cargo Napa Essential Lip Color:

  1. Thicker bullet design makes application awkward, especially for those with smaller lips.
  2. Color transfers to cups and such.
  3. Really no other cons…this is a fabulous lipstick and formula.

Cargo Napa Essential Lip Color over Girlactik Iconic Matte Lip Paint.

The above photos show how Napa appears when worn with two different lip bases.  Girlactik Allure Matte Lip Paint (warm tone pink beige color) seems to bring out Napa’s true berry shade; however, when paired with Girlactik Iconic Matte Lip Paint (bright orange-red), Napa appears to morph into a pinky red hue.  In both instances, the color was gorgeous and lasted well beyond the six-hour mark.

The next set of photos shows how Napa was able to change the overall feel and look of my makeup.   The first photo is an example of a polished look, but in the second photo the overall impression is more brightening and awake.

The above photo shows how wonderfully Napa held up throughout the day.  The non-feathering aspect of this formula is such an innovative accomplishment for the brand.  Kudos Cargo!!

Comparison Colors to Cargo Napa:

Comparison Swatches: Estee Lauder Insolent Plum, Cargo Napa, YSL The Mats 205, and Lipstick Queen Entouage.

Comparison Swatches:
Estee Lauder Insolent Plum, Cargo Napa, YSL The Mats 205, and Lipstick Queen Entouage.

  • Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Insolent Plum is brighter and less densely pigmented when compared to Napa.  Although the color is lovely, IP requires a lipliner and she does not last as well as Napa.
  • Cargo Napa’s saturated formula is deeper than Insolent Plum, yet brighter than YSL 205 and LQ Entourage.  This color is a great berry choice for those that wanted to love Insolent Plum, but found it too vivid for their tastes.
  • YSL The Mats 205 is clearly deeper and vampier than Napa.  I believe Napa lasts even better than this formula and the staining effect is just as potent.
  • Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope Lipstick in Entourage contains more of a brown undertone when compared to Napa.  This matte formula is truly luxurious, but Napa seems to be a formidable contender (at a fraction of the price..shhh–I did not say that) 🙂

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Cargo Cosmetics Napa Essential Lip Color is a wonderful lipstick.  The non-feathering aspect, the lasting hydration, the longevity, and the gorgeous color makes this lipstick well worth the money.  I can already foresee Napa making my Best of Beauty 2015…yeah it’s that good.  Until next time, be well, stay safe and be happy.

Best of Beauty 2014.

Best of Beauty 2014 products in action.

Best of Beauty 2014 products in action.

This past year has proven to be quite an extraordinary time for cosmetics.  Velvety smooth matte lipsticks, hybrid gloss/stain lip products, rich eyeshadow textures and colors, and amazing cream shadows and liners seem to have dominated the industry.  We can only hope 2015 will bring us even more phenomenal creations.  Without further ado, I present my personal highlights from this past year.  I hope you enjoy!

Best of Beauty 2014 Eyes:

Best of Beauty 2014 Face:

  •  Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Body Butter is my facial moisturizer during the winter months.  My overly dry skin soaks up this rich cream like a sponge, leaving a feeling of complete hydration for the entirety of the day.
  • Guerlain Lingerie De Peau Nude Powder Foundation is the belle of the ball.  This powder foundation is smooth, hydrating, convenient, and long-lasting.  I cannot think of the last time a foundation has impressed me as much.
  • Dior Star Concealer is hands down the best concealer I have ever used.  The creamy formula glides on the skin and stays in place beautifully throughout the day.

Best of Beauty 2014 Cheeks:

Best of Beauty 2014 Lips:

  • Girlactik Allure Matte Lip Paint is technically a liquid lipstick, but I use this mainly in place of a lipliner. The smooth non-drying, long-lasting formula makes lips impervious to feathering.  So smitten was I with this formula, the color Demure (review coming soon) became the newest addition to my makeup family.
  • Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope Lipsticks have been praise to no end on this blog.  I cannot think of another matte lipstick that can even match the texture and silky smooth feel of this line.
  • YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats are wonderful matte lipstick formulations.  These babies adhere to the lips instantly and leave the most potent stain behind.
  • Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipsticks came with a promise of hydration, longevity and comfortable wear.  The subtle sheen finish was designed to make lips appear more plump.  Judging by the four tubes in my possession, it is safe to say, I’m sold!
  • Dior Addict Fluid Sticks have been such a wonderful investment.  The lightweight texture and cooling sensation instantly awakens any look, especially when worn over a drying lipstick.
  • Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss 20 Audace is the perfect mauve brown shade.  I love to pair this with Girlactik Allure Matte Lip Paint for the ultimate sophisticated lip look.

Best of Beauty 2014 Brushes:
Chikuhodo Z-8, Z-4, Z-5 Philosophy Supernatural Airbrush Brush, Wayne Goss Brush 01, Tom Ford Cream Foundation Brush, Billy B #12, Laura Mercier Finishing Eye Brush, Memebox Eye Brushes.

  • Chikuhodo Z-Series brushes are the most exquisite brushes I have ever used.   These brushes are meant to be used with powder products only.  The soft bristles blend the most pigmented powders to professional perfection.
  • Philosophy Supernatural Airbrush Brush is an oldie but a goodie that was resuscitated for use with my Guerlain Powder Foundation.  The soft dense synthetic bristles effectively works powder into the skin, giving flawless results.
  • Wayne Goss Brush 01 is a wonderful brush that works especially well with liquid foundations.  Currently, I use this brush to apply my cream and/or powder highlighter.
  • Tom Ford Cream Foundation Brush is used for blush and/or contour  application.  The small dense head is perfect for accurate product placement.
  • Billy B #12 Brush is used everyday for blending out gel liners, powder eyeshadows and for my outer corner color application.  The dual fiber angled design is perfect for hard to reach places.
  • Laura Mercier Finishing Eye Brush has been in my collection for years.  I recently started to utilize this gem to blend out my concealer for amazing results!
  • Memebox Brushes are meant for travel, but the short handles and brush head designs are perfect for everyday use.  In addition, the affordable price makes this set an even more attractive offering.

Best of Beauty 2014 Nails:

Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Nail Lacquer (with flash).

  • Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Nail Color is my favorite color from 2014.  The cream formula is classic and appropriate for many occasions.  Best of all, the Estee Lauder’s formula removes easily without color bleeding or staining of the nails.

Things I Have Been Loving: Volume 2.

Things I Have Been Loving: Volume 2.

Things I Have Been Loving: Volume 2.

I love seeing posts on monthly favorites and often contemplate doing them myself.  However, my personal favorites do not change on a monthly basis, rather morph with the seasons.  By now, I’m sure all of you have realized Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Solo Eyeshadows are magnificent, Nars Eyeshadow Primer is indispensable and Inglot AMC Gel liner is my HG tightline color.  So for this edition of, Things I Have Been Loving, I will show you some of the items that have been brought out of storage and bring me great solace–along with a few new goodies 🙂  I hope you enjoy.

  • Too Faced Medium/Deep Chocolate Soliel Bronzer has been in my collection for years and my old compact looked like it was ready for the undertaker.  This chocolate scented matte bronzer is really the best tone for my coloring.  Normally, I’m all about the “glow”, but as my skin returns to its original pasty coloring, I’m finding the matte texture of this bronzer more compatible.
  • Bare Minerals Ready Blush in The Indecent Proposal is newly acquired, but I can tell you this beauty is just as good, if not better, than some higher-end blushes.  This dusty plum color closely resembles Nars Sin, but sans the parabens and inflated price.  This subtly infused gold plum shade compliments my skin beautifully and gives the most realistic flush to the cheeks.
  • Guerlain Lingerie De Peau Nude Powder Foundation (reviewed here) is a wonder.  There are times I look at photos of myself and wonder, “Is that really my skin?”  It’s that good.  Try it and see for yourself–that’s if you can find a color match.
  • Dior Mini Kabuki Brush came with my Dior Skin Bronzer and I find this soft little creature buffs in my powder foundation to perfection.  Truth be told, I also have been using this little guy to apply my bronzer and blush.  What can I say, if a brush works, wipe it clean between products and go to town. 🙂
  • Diorskin Star Concealer (seen here) was purchased because of Gyudy from Gyudy’s Notes of Beauty.  Since spying this concealer in her October favorites and reading her review, I knew I had to take the plunge–so glad that I did.  My review and comparisons will be up next week.
  • Dior Minuit Nail Lacquer (reviewed here and found here) was released last winter as part of Dior’s Holiday Collection and continues to be the most alluring color I have ever seen. Although Dior has release four new lacquers this holiday season (seen on Temptalia), I’m still mesmerized by the beauty of Minuit.  Smoky, a dark aubergine color, looks striking, but easily dupable and definitely not worth the extra expense.
  • Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Body Butter (reviewed here) is my go-to winter time facial moisturizer.  As you may already know, I only utilize oils (Argan, Coconut and Castor) as my daily moisturizers; however, during the cooler months my excessively dry skin needs a thicker balm.  This is the only cream that is all natural and rich enough to alleviate the tightening feeling on my skin.  I purchase the large 13.5 oz tub for my husband and one for myself, and we find the generous amount lasts the entire season.
  • Toyko Milk Dead Sexy Parfum is one of two scents I can tolerate.  The musky blend of vanilla, exotic wood, white orchid, and ebony is not overpowering and does not linger throughout the day.  I know the lasting power is not an immediate draw for some, but I prefer when fragrances dissipate within a four-hour window.
  • Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow Maestro (reviewed here) has become my HG brow product.  This cream formula adheres to the skin seamlessly and does not budge throughout the day–even stays put through a workout.  Who wouldn’t want that?
  • Burberry No.10 Smudger Eyebrush has been discontinued, but I find the tapered end and soft hairs perfectly diffuses GA Eye and Brow Wengewood on my brows.  I suppose MAC 119 would make a suitable substitute.
  • Lip Combination:  Girlactik Allure Matte Lip Paint (reviewed here) is my ultimate lipstick/lipgloss base. YSL The Mats 205 (reviewed here and recommended by my sweet Instagram friend Zvoncnjica26) is a deep dark seductive berry/plum color that has the most potent staining effect.  Dior Fluid Stick 995 Intrigue (reviewed here) compliments 205 perfectly.  Together, this combo makes one dynamite Holiday Lip.
  • Gold Hoop Earrings are classic and timeless.  This particular pair was purchased when I was 13 years old with my very first paycheck.  I recall Alyssa Milano sporting a similar pair on an episode of Who’s The Boss and I figured if she looked good in them, I would as well.  Fast forward, ten years later (did you catch that?) these little gems still manage to look good and are the ideal shape to wear with bulky scarfs.
  • Sydney Evan Diamond Disc Pendant has been worn non-stop.  I’m really enjoying the simplicity of this piece and how well it pairs with everything.  One need not go out and spend a fortune on a SE piece; many companies now produce similar designs for a fraction of the price.
  • Organic Whole Husk Psyllium is added to my post workout shake everyday.  My nutritionist sister (here) recommends this product to her clients to aid in healthy elimination.  I know this is not the typical beauty channel topic; however, this is something that does effect our health and the appearance of our skin.  I add a full scope (3 tablespoons–amount will vary from person to person) to my shake, along with Spirulina (seen here), Whey Protein Powder and Chia seeds.  Adding Psyllium to any flavored drink, would be highly recommended seeing as how it has a strong earthy flavor. Psyllium thickens the more it is submerged in a liquid, therefore drinking your shake within 5 minutes is highly advisable.  Read about all the health benefits of this fabulous product (here) and judge for yourself.

Utilizing the products mentioned. Due to the blaring sun in my all white bathroom, my skin looks particularity flawless. I wish I could surround myself with these lighting conditions all the time 🙂

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you some of these products are tried and true and other newly acquired gems have impressed me beyond expectation. 🙂  What are some things you have been loving?  Be well, stay safe and be happy.

Nars Audacious Lipstick in Charlotte review, swatches and comparisons.

Nars Audacious Lipstick in Charolotte.

Nars Audacious Lipstick in Charlotte.

When a cosmetics company claims to have formulated a lipstick so revolutionary, so dramatic, so color saturated and yes, so audacious, yours truly stands and takes notice.  Nars Audacious Lipstick in Charlotte ($32 USD/4.2g) is yet another deep dark seductive color that is sure to capture everyone’s attention.  Will this newly mint filly topple my beloved Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope Lipstick in Entourage (reviewed here) from the #1 spot in my collection?  You’ll see 🙂

The Pros to Nars Audacious Lipstick in Charlotte:

  1. Gorgeous burgundy-red color.
  2. Semi-matte finish.
  3. Smooth saturated color that glides on the lips without any tugging.
  4. Lasts for 4 hours on its own, however when paired with a lipliner/base the wear is extended to 5-6 hours.
  5. Castor oil is the first ingredient which makes the lipstick very hydrating.
  6. Leaves behind a noticeable stain when the color has faded.
  7. Layers well over an existing layer.
  8. Formulated without any fragrance, parabens, or mineral oil.
  9. Fantastic sleek black packaging (non-rubberized) with a modern magnetic closure.
  10. Can be used with other lipstick brands to create a unique shade.  I have used Charlotte to brighten YSL 205 and the resulting shade was stunning.
  11. Amazing price/amount ratio…4.2 grams.
  12. The Audacious Line houses 40 delectable shades:  14 of these shades are available through Sephora.com but not in-store (Audrey, Barbara, Bette, Brigitte, Liv, Catherine, Deborah, Grace, Greta, Janet, Leslie, Marlene, Natalie, and Vera);  10 of these shades are exclusive to Barneys NY (Carmen, Dominique, Ingrid, Julie, Kelly, Marisa, Sandra, Silvia, Vanessa, and Vivien).
  13. Highly available from a variety of retailers.

The Cons to Nars Audacious Lipstick in Charlotte:

  1. Charlotte tends to feather into my fine lines by the third hour of wear.  A quality lip liner/base is essential when wearing this color.
  2. These do not play well with glosses of any kind.  When paired with my Dior Addict Fluid Sticks (reviewed here and here), the color started to break down after a couple of hours.  I was left with faded lipstick in the center and a strong outlining color on the perimeter of the lips.  NOT CUTE!
  3. Tends to photograph more like a brick-red than a burgundy.

After roughly taking 30 pictures, the first photo, captured what I believe to be an accurate color depiction of Charlotte.  However, in the second photo, Charlotte took-on a more brick-red appearance.  In person, the burgundy tone was definitely noticeable and the color faded into a lasting stain.

Comparisons to Nars Charlotte Lipstick:

Comparison Swatches L-R:
Julie Hewett Sin Noir, Nars Charlotte, Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope Entourage, Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope Black Tie, and Kevyn Aucoin BloodRoses.

  • YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats 205  (reviewed here) has a strong plum tone.  This color is clearly deeper and more robust than Charlotte.  This formula is not as smooth as Charlotte, but the non-feathering aspect and amazing longevity are noteworthy.  YSL The Mats Lipsticks have the most potent staining effect than any other lipstick I own.
  • Julie Hewett Sin Noir is much more brown in its overall tone when compared to Charlotte.  The application is not as smooth as Charlotte, but the lasting power is quite impressive.
  • Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope Entourage is deeper and has more of a berry undertone when compared to Charlotte.  The velvet matte finish is so attractive and the silky smooth formula is unsurpassed…need I say more?
  • Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope Black Tie is brighter and contains less burgundy pigment when compared to Charlotte.  Just like Entourage, the formula is simply the best.
  • Kevyn Aucoin Blood Roses is deeper in tone and glossier than Charlotte.  This is one lipstick that can easily be classified as hydrating, but the longevity is somewhat compromised due to the emollient nature of the formula.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Nars Audacious Lipstick in Charlotte is a truly sensational color and formulation.  I was rather impressed with how smoothly the color applied and the level of pigmentation.  Will Charlotte replace my beloved LQ Entourage?  No..there simply isn’t any other brand that can come close to Poppy’s formula.  However, Charlotte is no slouch, she performs brilliantly and is a proud achievement from an amazing brand.  Have you tried any Audacious lipsticks to date?  Be well, stay safe and be happy.

This blog centers around all the things I love.  However, sometimes there are things that are utilized (and loved) that are only mentioned in passing.  I mean really, there is only so much you can say about nail polish remover to excite the masses.  So for this post, I will briefly highlight all the things that have been on constant rotation in my routine as of late.  Don’t be surprised if an odd item makes its way toward the middle or end.  After all, I write in my kitchen with the company/distraction of my children, impending dinner and a perpetually hungry dog circling around me at all times 🙂  I hope you enjoy.

    1. Zoya Nail Polish Remover removes all traces of polish swiftly without drying out the nails or cuticles.  As an added bonus, the smell is so much more pleasant than your average drugstore polish remover.
    2. Oribe Superfine Strong Hairspray smells heavenly and the superfine mist holds the most challenging hair styles in place.  A word of caution, if used in excess the build up can feel heavy and unpleasant.
    3. Mountain Rose Herbs Argan Oil is exactly the same as Josie Maran Argan Oil, without the inflated price tag. I can purchase 8 oz. of MRH Argan Oil for $44 USD as opposed to 2 oz. of Josie Maran Argan Oil for $48.  Both are organic, cold-pressed and unrefined..you be the judge.
    4. Crystal Essence Deodorant is aluminum-free, natural and perfect for the fall/winter season.  The Pomegranate Fragrance is refreshing and non-offensive.  Even my husband and son love this brand.
    5. YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats 205 (reviewed here) has been worn on its own and paired with every lipstick in my collection.  The berry tone is beyond suitable for the upcoming cooler weather and the stain left behind is rather potent.
    6. Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope Lipstick in Entourage (reviewed here) is the best matte lipstick IMHO.  Do I need to say more?  Nope…I’ll stop gushing now.
    7. Hourglass Diffused Light (compared to Nars here) has been brought out of hibernation for the fall/winter season.  This ambient powder promises to diffuse the look of imperfections…yada, yada, yada….I use it with a dry BeautyBlender and use the press and roll method around the T-Zone area. However, do tread lightly with this beauty…too much will result in photo flashback in flash photography.
    8. Make Up For Ever Artist Shadows ME-654, M-510 and M-600 (reviewed here and here) have been used everyday since their purchase.  The creamy texture is beyond dreamy..try them and see.
    9. Giorgio Armani Eyes To Kill Solo #2 Armani Navy (reviewed here) is the best matte navy color on the market.  Not even Make Up For Ever has a navy of this caliber in their 210 color line-up.  If you are looking for truly exceptional quality matte colors..GA is your man.
    10. Rapidlash was purchased at the beginning of summer.  My typical coconut/castor oil mixture has served me very well, however, I wanted to see if I could achieve the same results in less time. Ladies this not only works, but it works a little too well, on me (I have to trim my lashes).  In all fairness, I have very long lashes naturally so my goal was to gain volume. Incredibly long lashes have not only been obtained using this serum, but it seems my once-upon-a-time voluminous lashes have magically returned.  Application has now been downsized to every other night, with the continued use of my coconut/castor oil conditioning every night.  Costco now carries this brand for $49 for a pack of two.  Bed, Bath and Beyond also carries this brand and you can use your 20% or $5 off coupons.
    11. Chikuhodo Z-5 Eyeshadow Brush (reviewed here) is used everyday.  This beauty applies eyeshadow so quickly and defuses the most pigmented colors perfectly.  If you would like to invest in one quality Chikuhodo Brush, this would be my pick.
    12. Memebox Meme Eyebrow Brush (reviewed here) is used everyday to apply my tight line color, gel liners and/or dampened to apply powder eyeshadows as liner.  This little gem is worth the expense of the whole Meme Brush Set.
    13. Minimal Jewelry is the theme de jour.  I’m enjoying the simplicity of wearing one statement ring (Pomellato Nude Ring) with my plain 2 inch gold hoop earrings, sans necklaces and bracelets.
    14. EZsizer are wonderful ring guards used to protect rings and/or make rings fit more securely.  If you are like me and have enlarged knuckles and thin fingers, then these are a must for you.  I purchase the medium size for winter and the petite size for summer.
    15. Spirulina (read about the health benefits here) is suitable for internal and external use.  This green algae is added everyday in my post workout shake and applied once a week as a detoxifying mask. The idea for this mask came from Olivia from The Unknown Beauty Blog (here); in her wonderful post she outlines all the details to concoct this amazing mask.  Your skin feels so soft after the mask has been removed; frankly, everyone needs to get on the Spirulina bandwagon..That’s right I said it 🙂

Clearly, I have a tremendous weakness when it comes to dark red lipsticks.  I can never have enough and I make it a point to use all of my colors regularly.  So when a lovely Instagram kindred spirit, Zvoncnjica26, suggested I should try YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats 205 ($35 USD/3.8g), I immediately made it a point to visit my YSL counter the following day.  To my surprise, YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats collection was downsized at many locations, thus making the acquisition of 205 nearly impossible.  Did this stop me?  Come now…does a tigress abandon her prey?  Once IMCT sets her sights on something, there is no stopping the beast 🙂  I hope you enjoy.

YSL Swatches L-R: YSL Rouge Pur Couture 32 Pourpre Carmin, 206 Grenant Satisfaction, and 205 Prune Virgin.

  • YSL Rouge Pur Couture 32 Pourpre Carmin is basically the glossier version of 206 Grenat Satisfaction.

The Pros of YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats 206 and 205:

  1. Amazing pigmentation.
  2. Glides on the lips evenly despite the denser matte consistency.
  3. 206 is a beautiful brown based burgundy red that screams…S-E-X-Y.
  4. 205 is a gorgeous dark plum based red–definitely not for the faint of heart.
  5. The matte finish has more dimension than your typical flat matte lipstick.
  6. Lasts 6 hours when used with It Cosmetics Perfect Red lipliner (reviewed here).
  7. Does not feather into fines lines.
  8. Can be applied lightly for a hint of color or full-on for truly attention-getting results.
  9. Noticable staining effect when color has worn off.
  10. Remarkably hydrating and comfortable to wear throughout the day.
  11. Lightweight gold packaging is very luxe.
  12. Formulated without parabens or mineral oil, but loaded with silicones.
  13. Pairs beautifully with Dior Addict Fluid Sticks (reviewed here) for added shine.
  14. Contains 3.8 grams of product…much more than the standard high-end lipstick.
  15. Made in France.

The Cons of YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats 206 and 205:

  1. 205 Prune Virgin, the original shade I was looking for, was “out-of-stock” in three major department stores.  One sales associate declared a new shipment would arrive later in the week, another lady claimed the line was being discontinued, and finally, the last woman said she never even heard of “The Mats” line…Someone please remind me again, why I’m paying a premium?
  2. Although lovely to look at, the gold packaging attracts fingerprints on contact. Great if you are a spy and require a suspect’s fingerprint to enter a top-secret lab…I’ve been watching way too much Revenge and Arrow.
  3. Adding an additional layer to an existing layer feels heavy and can look caky.
  4. Saks.com was the only online retailer that carried 205, which was listed with the regular YSL Pur Couture Lipsticks as N205.

  • For the above photos, YSL 206 Grenat Satisfaction was applied directly over It Cosmetics Perfect Red lipliner, then lightly outlined with a lip brush.  I purchased this color as an experiment to see if the formula was to my liking.  Clearly, the color, formula and texture were fantastic, thus spawning an obsessive online search for 205 Prune Virgin 🙂

  • For the above photos, YSL 205 Prune Virgin was applied in the same manner as 206 Grenat Satisfaction. This deep plum red is truly bold, yet versatile.  I found when I applied 205 lightly, the stain remained for most of the day and also paired beautifully with a light layer of Dior Addict Fluid Stick in 893 Trompe L’Oeil.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you YSL Rouge Pur Courture The Mats 206 and 205 are top of the line.  The pigmentation, formula, texture and longevity have impressed me beyond my expectations–perfect colors if you will, for the upcoming fall season.  Many thanks to the lovely Zvoncnjica26 for opening my eyes to this line.  Are you tempted?  Be well, stay safe and be happy.
