Makeup of the Week: Holiday Edition.

Makeup of the Week: Holiday Edition.

Makeup of the Week: Holiday Edition.

The holiday season is one of the most exciting times of the year.  However, the stress of organizing a dinner party can also be overwhelming and exhausting.  Fortunately, my sister is the brave soul that bares the responsibility of cooking Thanksgiving dinner (out of all the foods I can cook, why does baking a turkey elude me?).  For this Makeup of the Week: Holiday Edition, I have put together two quick and easy looks, using long-wearing products that can be worn without any need for touch-ups.  I hope you enjoy!

Makeup of the Week: Holiday Edition Eye Makeup:

  1. Prime eyes with Nars Eyeshadow Primer.
  2. Fill and shape the brows (Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow 2 Wenge Wood).
  3. Using the back of your hand, combine equal parts (amount will vary) of Giorgio Armnai Eye and Brow 9 Gold with Givenchy 9 Brun Cachemire (reviewed here) and apply the mixture to the mobile lid using a synthetic brush.
  4. Use a warm brown shade in the crease (MUFE M-600) to blend out the edges of the lid color.
  5. Apply a lighter gold shade to the inner corners of the eye (MUFE ME-512).
  6. Line the lower lash line with Givenchy Brun Cachemire and then lightly pat Giorgio Armani 9 Gold directly over.
  7. Line the inner waterline, with a flesh tone pencil (Merle Norman Inner Liner), extending the color out and under the winged liner, to lighten the look and make eyes appear larger.
  8. Tightline the upper waterline with any gel liner of your choosing (Inglot AMC #90).
  9. Add your favorite mascara (Clinique High Impact Mascara) and black liner (Milani Liquid Liner) and your look is complete.
  10. This step is opitional:  I like to add a bit more of 9 Gold over the lid for a little extra pizzazz.

For the above photos, the same steps were used as the previous look with the obvious difference being the addition of Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Solo 2 Armani Navy (reviewed here) applied to the outer corner and in the crease.  Guerlain Liquid Liner in 02 BLEU OUTREMER (review coming soon) was also used in place of a black liner.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you these two looks lasted perfectly all day, with the exception of the lip color.  What look are you planning to wear for the upcoming holidays?

Since Thanksgiving is all about giving thanks, a special thanks to my hubby who always supports my insanity; to my children who always accompany me (reluctantly, but sweet about it) to the cosmetics counters; and last, but certainly not least, to all of my wonderful readers who always provide inspiration and joy.  Happy Thanksgiving…warm wishes and big hugs from my home to yours.  Be well, stay safe and be happy.

Makeup of the Week: Budge Proof Makeup.

As mentioned in many posts, I love Givenchy Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadows; the consistency, longevity and formula are amazing.  For this Makeup of the Week: Budge Proof Makeup, an impromptu tennis session and a five-mile walk, with my sister, created the perfect occasion to see if these beauties would live up to the “waterproof” claim.  Did I have high expectations?  Yes.  Did I want zero color fading and migration?  Yes.  Did I get everything I wanted?  You betcha 🙂

  10. Estee Lauder Eyeliner/Brow 20 Brush used to apply Givenchy 7 Gris Organza.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Givenchy Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadows lasted beautifully under these extremely hot conditions, thus substantiating the waterproof claim.  Four hours of humidity and sweat really put these cream shadows to the test.  The rest of my makeup held up fairly well, with the exception of my bronzer.  Do I normally wear this much makeup during a workout?  No way–I just happened to have been bamboozled by my darling sister to participate in her daily workout routine…and I loved every minute!!!  I hope you found this helpful.  Be well, stay safe and be happy.

Makeup of the Week: Gleaming Eyes and Juicy Lips.

Makeup of the Week: Glistening Eyes and Juicy Lips.

This has been a very busy week.  After celebrating Easter and all the cleanup that comes along with hosting a holiday party, makeup application needed to be quick and easy.  For this Makeup of the Week:  Glistening Eyes and Juicy Lips, I utilized another cream eyeshadow and recent acquisition:  Tom Ford Platinum Cream Eyeshadow.  This mauvish-taupish-brown glistening pot of loveliness was so easy and effortless to use, I now need/want (one in the same) the whole collection.  However, that may be a problem, seeing as how Tom Ford Cream Eyeshadows were limited edition and can only be found at certain CCO locations…I can sense my husband breathing a “sigh” of relief 🙂

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you even though these seem like a lot of products, it only took me 25 minutes to apply a full face of makeup.  I know it seems hard to believe, but the more you do something the easier it becomes. The right tools also make for a more pleasurable and productive experience.  I hope you found this helpful. Be well and stay safe.

Makeup of the Week: Mad Men Inspired.

I don’t know about anyone else out there, but I absolutely love the show Mad Men.  The men are so outrageously spoiled and entitled and the women…oh, the women…are so glamorous and gorgeous.  The makeup is very simple, yet, always refined and strong.  Forget the outer “v”, the shimmer and the multitude of colorful shadows, elegance was the reigning theme in women’s makeup routine.  For this Makeup of the Week:  Mad Men Inspired, I will try to recreate what I believe to be the quintessential go-to eye look and face makeup for any present day occasion.  Makeup was applied in the order listed.  I hope you enjoy.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you regardless if you are a fan of Mad Men or not, this simple elegant look could be worn for any modern-day occasion.  The addition of the darkened brown shade on top of the black liquid liner makes eyes appear doe-like and awake.  A little trick I use all the time when I am pressed for time, yet, want to look put together.  The simplicity of the eye look really made my complexion stand out.  Using powder blushes and highlighters with a slightly dampened brush not only makes the color last all day, but allows the color to blend into the skin more seamlessly.   I hope you found this helpful.  As always, be well and stay safe.

Adding an extra necklace or two also helps to dress up any outfit.  I hope you find this helpful and can use some ideas for your next date night 🙂

Valentine’s Day Makeup and Lip Combinations.

Valentine's Day Makeup.

Valentine’s Day Makeup.

For this Valentine’s Day Makeup Look, I decided to create a sultry, yet elegant look.  Bobbi Brown Twilight Shimmer Ink Gel Liner (reviewed here) was used as the main “eyeshadow” color.  When paired with Nars Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base (reviewed here), this eye look will undoubtedly last the entirety of the evening, no matter what surprises await 🙂  I hope you find this helpful.

Step 1: Valentine Day Makeup Looks.

Step 1:
Valentine’s Day Makeup.

Start by prepping the eye area with Nars Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base.  Fill in the brows with your favorite brow product.  I used Shu Uemura Brow Pencil in 02 Seal Brown (seen here).

Step 2: Valentine Day Makeup Looks.

Step 2:
Valentine’s Day Makeup.

Take an angled brush (I used Billy B #12 Brush (reviewed here)…the best for this job) with Bobbi Brown Gel Liner in Twilight Shimmer Ink and line the upper lash line.  Smudge the liner upwardly, extending the line outwardly, to create an outer flick (you will use this as a guide when applying your black liquid liner).

Step 3: Valentine Day Makeup Looks.

Step 3:
Valentine’s Day Makeup.

Continue to add as much color until you have reached your desired intensity.  Apply the color in a wedge-like shape; thinner toward the inner corner and gradually thickening the color towards the outer corner.

Step 4: Valentine Day Makeup Looks.

Step 4:
Valentine’s Day Makeup Look.

Blend out any harsh lines with Clarins Alburn Mineral Eyeshadow and place the same color in the crease. Next, Bobbi Brown Navajo Eyeshadow is used to blend out the edges of the crease color and “highlight” the brow bone.  To give the look a more gradient effect, Clarins Dark Chocolate, is applied to the outer “v”. Use a Q-Tip, dipped in lotion or makeup remover, and run it along the ends of the eye, to clean-up and shape the edge of the outer flick.

Step 5: Valentine Day Makeup Looks.

Step 5:
Valentine’s Day Makeup.

Prior to mascara application, line the upper waterline (tight line) with your favorite liner.  I swear by Inglot #90, this dark brown liner does not budge throughout the day (for me, black is too harsh).

Step 6: Valentine Day Makeup Look.

Step 6:
Valentine’s Day Makeup.

Add your favorite black liner and favorite mascara (curl your lashes if you prefer); I used Tom Ford Eye Defining Pen (reviewed here) and L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara (does flake but gives amazing length). Laura Mercier Ritual Bronzer mixed with Cargo Water Resistant Bronzer is used to line the lower lash line. Line the lower waterline with MAC Rich Ground Gel Liner.

Valentine’s Day Lip Combinations:

Valentine Day Makeup: Lip Combination 1: Shiseido RD203 with MAC Prolong Wear Lip Pencil in Nice n Spicy.

Valentine’s Day Makeup:
Lip Combination 1: Shiseido RD203 with MAC Prolong Wear Lip Pencil in Nice n Spicy.

This lip combination is for those who prefer a nude lip.  I have made mention of MAC Prolong Wear Lip Pencils’ fabulousness from the beginning 🙂  These pencils magically transform many lipstick into long wearing colors.  When paired with Shiseido Lacquer Rouge (reviewed here), the combination is unbeatable.

This lip color is for those who seek a no-fuss lipstick.  Nars Satin Lip Pencils are perfect to throw into a small handbag for on the go touch-ups.  These lipsticks-in-pencil-form are so convenient to use; however, do make certain to sharpen your lip color before you leave.  A dull point completely defeats the purpose of these pencils.  I prefer Slice Cosmetics Sharpener (reviewed here).

Valentine Day Makeup Look: Lip Combination 3: Lime Crime Velveteen in Red Velvet topped with Estee Lauder Ruby Glow High Intensity Lip Lacquer.

Valentine’s Day Makeup:
Lip Combination 3: Lime Crime Red Velvet Velveteen topped with Estee Lauder Ruby Glow High Intensity Lip Lacquer.

This lip combination will attract some serious attention.  Lime Crime Red Velvet Velveteen  is a bright cool tone red that dries downs to a long lasting matte velvet finish.  Estee Lauder Ruby Glow High Intensity Lip Lacquer (reviewed here) provides shine, moisture, depth and dimension.  As with all glosses, a light hand is highly recommended to avoid feathering into fine lines.

Valentine Day Makeup Look: Lip 2: MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Kiss Me Quick.

Valentine’s Day Makeup:
Lip 4: MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Kiss Me Quick.

This pretty and simple lip color would suit those who prefer a matte finish.  MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Kiss Me Quick is a beautiful cool tone red, with a creamy texture and amazing lasting power. However, lips do become quite dry, a lip balm would be highly recommended.

Valentine Day Makeup Look: Lip Combination 4: MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Kiss Me Quick with Estee Lauder Electric Wine High Intensity Lip Lacquer.

Valentine’s Day Makeup:
Lip Combination 5: MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Kiss Me Quick with Estee Lauder Electric Wine High Intensity Lip Lacquer.

Now this my friends, is a stop-you-in-your-tracks-va-va-va-voom lip combo.  The purple undertone of Twilight Shimmer Ink pairs perfectly with the strong wine tone of Estee Lauder Electric Wine High Intensity Lip Lacquer.  This look, felt very reminiscent of the 20’s; all that was needed was a flapper dress, a long pearl necklace, and some opera gloves.  I draw the line at the bobbed hair and cloche hat 🙂  What a difference a lip color can make.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you I have worn this look several times over the past two weeks, since the purchase of MAC Little Black Bow Fluidline from the CCO.  This gray base color with multi-color shimmers should be applied as patiently as MAC Deliciously Rich and It’s Physical Fluidlines.  When paired with Nars Eyeshadow Primer, the color and sparkles of Little Black Bow remain well-behaved and do not migrate.  The sheer blush and light lip color complement this eye look perfectly.  I hope you found this helpful.  Up next, L’Oreal Extraodinaire Gel-Laque review.  Be well and stay safe.

Makeup of the Week Twelfth Edition.

For the past several weeks I have been experimenting with some items in my collection.  As you can imagine, I have an extensive selection of products to choose from.  For this Makeup of the Week: Twelfth Edition, I thought it would be interesting to see if some of my face products could perform double duty as my eye makeup.   As a result, the overall look turned out better than I had imagined.  The blushes, bronzers and face powders had exceptional longevity and gave my eyes the “glow” I usually reserve for my face.  I hope you too will feel inspired to put your face products to work on your eyes.  Enjoy my lovelies.

Makeup of the Week Tenth Edition.

Makeup of the Week Tenth Edition.

This week I was inspired to create a classic eye look using three shadows.  Typically, I wear one color across the lid and call it a day.  I am always a tad reluctant to apply too many colors on my lids.  My ample lid space can quickly become overwhelmed and start to resemble a finger painting gone awry.  The general rule for using three colors, is to pick shades in the same color family with different levels of intensity (light, medium and dark).  Enjoy!

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you this simple and classic look can be worn anytime and anywhere.   I have worn this look to weddings, school functions, to the park, and recently to see Spiderman on Broadway.  Whatever you decide to do while sporting this chic look, I sincerely hope you will have the time of your life.  As always, be well and stay safe.

Eye Looks and Lip Combinations of the Week.

Eye Combination #1.

Eye Look #1.

Since my reunion with my beloved Illamasqua Ore Pigment, I have become obsessed with using this beautiful bronzy antique gold pigment almost everyday!   My Eye Looks and Lip Combinations have centered around this unique pigment.  As expected, whenever I wear Ore Pigment, random strangers compliment my eye look. This week, I have had four of the most pleasant and positive conversations, all with complete strangers, over a “silly” makeup item. The power of makeup!  All other face makeup remains the same as here unless otherwise noted.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you a trip to Sephora is highly recommended to see Illamasqua Ore Pigment in person.  This is one of the most beautiful and well made pigments on the market.  MAC pigments are not as refined and do not adhere as well as Illamasqua.  I wish Illamasqua would somehow repackage Ore pigment or create a long-lasting cream shadow it its likeness.  In the meanwhile, remember to be kind and if the mood should strike, compliment someone…kind words never hurt.  I hope you found this helpful.  Be well and stay safe.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you other than my neutral eye look, these two eye looks and lip combinations of the week have been on constant rotation.  I find each look very quick and easy when I am pressed for time. These looks do not require much in terms of talent or technique, but the end results are quite polished.  My Billy B #12 brush has been essential in creating both looks (reviewed here).  I hope you found this helpful. Be well and stay safe.

Makeup of the Week Ninth Edition.

Makeup of the Week Ninth Edition.

Makeup of the Week Ninth Edition.

This week’s look was fast and easy using minimal products (for me at least).  The theme for the week was rediscovery; to use forgotten products within my collection.  Usually I’m pretty good at deciphering what will work for me in the long run and what will end-up in my “donation basket.”  However, it is wise to try to use these products again before discarding them or giving them away. Absence does make the heart grow fonder, thus making the reunion that much sweeter 🙂  Enjoy!

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you as time passes your perceptions and taste will change.  Products that may not have worked for you in the past should be given another chance.  You never know, you may find a new use for them in your present routine.  I rediscovered Burberry Summer Glow Palette’s bronzer half worked perfectly with my current coloring.  Edward Bess Luxury Eye Brush head is a bit too big to use as a sole eyeshadow brush, but I rediscovered its magical ability to blend out any color to perfection.  MAC Too Chic Beauty Powder imparts a flattering subtle golden highlight color, appropriate for a daytime chic makeup look.  What have you rediscovered in your stash lately?  Be well and stay safe.
