Just say, “Heck Yes” to Marc Jacobs Wine Not Nail Lacquer.

Marc Jacobs Wine Not

Have you ever come across a makeup item that you could not stop thinking about?  I know it sounds utterly absurd, but ever since I laid eyes on images of Marc Jacobs Wine Not Nail Lacquer ($18 USD/.43 fl.oz.), I knew sooner or later this beguiling polish would be mine.  Five months later, I can happily say, he was well worth the wait.  🙂

Marc Jacobs Wine Not

Marc Jacobs Wine Not Nail Lacquer photographed with indoor lighting.

  • Wine Not is a gorgeous deep bordeaux color with a sophisticated metallic sheen.  The primary combination of purple and red mixed with the finest matching pearl, gives the color a fiery depth.
  • When viewed indoors the color deepens, but never to the point were it could be mistaken for a black polish.  On the contrary, Wine Not is quite distinctive, it emits a fantastic crimson radiance from every angle.
Marc Jacobs Wine Not

Marc Jacobs Wine Not Nail Lacquer photographed against full sun exposure.

  • Wine Not’s luminosity truly comes out in full force when exposed to sunlight.  I mean look at this color, the effect is downright stunning.  The color shifts from a playful deep wine to an enchanting scarlet hue right before your eyes.
  • This is the type of color that can be worn all year round, against a variety of skin tones and for any occasion.  Lighter polishes seem to dominate during the warmer months, however no one will dispute how chic and classic this polish looks even for this time of year.

  • The formula has a substantial texture that applies evenly and smoothly–two coats was sufficient for full opacity.
  • The dry time is also noteworthy–I felt as if my manicure ended before it even began–my nails were dry in 35 minutes.  Normally, with other polishes drying time ranges between 1-1½ hours.
  • For those of you wondering, my polish routine is rather basic, consisting of two other products that are rather affordable and accessible.  I start with one coat of my base coat (Nutra-Nail here), followed by two coats of Wine Not, concluding with a top coat (Sally Hansen Insta-Dri here). Viola–35 minutes later beautifully polished nails.

  • The wear time of Marc Jacobs’s nail lacquers are fantastic (reviewed Sally here) .  I managed to successfully wear this polish a full six days with minor tip wear and no chipping in sight.
  • The first photo shows how Wine Not appeared on initial application against my olive complexion.
  • The second photo shows how well the polish held up amidst days of cooking, cleaning, and etc.  A top coat was reapplied on the fourth day to refresh the shine of the polish. (FYI: wearing rubber gloves while doing house chores helps preserve your manicure and the overall appearance of your hands).
  • Marc Jacob’s nail lacquers are touted as high shine; however, in my experience, they possess the same amount of shine as any other polish–a top coat is definitely needed.

A big kiss to Marc J. for a job well done…”Muah.”

  • The bottle’s unique silhouette is another appealing feature of the brand. Did you know Marc purposely designed the base of the bottle to resemble a smile?  This bit of design trivia makes me love this polish even more.   🙂

**Marc Jacobs Wine Not Nail Lacquer is considered limited edition and can be found at Sephora (VIB Rouge only) or marcjacobsbeauty.com.**

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Marc Jacobs Wine Not Nail Lacquer is one of the most captivating colors of the year.  The supple formula, fantastic wear, fast drying time and exquisite bottle design has definitely given me reason to go back for another color.  Will you be saying, “Heck Yes” to Wine Not or let this beauty slip away?  Until next time, be well, stay safe and be happy.

Morgan Taylor Nail Lacquer Denim Du Jour and Sweet Surrender review and photos.

Morgan Taylor Nail

Morgan Taylor Nail Lacquer Denim Du Jour and Sweet Surrender.

Have you ever found yourself searching for one thing only to be completely distracted by something else? Such was the case while I was shopping for my boys on JCPenny.com.  One moment I’m looking at basketball shorts the next, I happily discovered Morgan Taylor Nail Lacquer Denim Du Jour and Sweet Surrender ($8.50-4.99 USD/5ml).  The OPI-ish bottle style, amazing color selection and reasonable price was too enticing to resist.  I hope you enjoy.

Morgan Taylor Denim Du Jour

According to nailpro.com:

New professional nail polish brand Morgan Taylor is named after Morgan Haile and Taylor Daniel, daughters of the company’s founders, Danny Haile and David Daniel, who are also the figureheads of Hand & Nail Harmony (maker of Gelish).

Morgan Taylor Denim Du Jour

Morgan Taylor Nail Lacquer Denim Du Jour against cool LED lighting.

  • Denim Du Jour is a beautiful gray-blue color with a hint of a teal undertone.  This color is a bit of a chameleon shade; the color morphs into different hues depending on lighting conditions.  In natural light the gray/teal undertones come out in full force.  In natural indirect light Denim Du Jour resembles a deep dark navy and lastly, in the presence of artificial lighting, a slight lapis tinge mysteriously emerges.
  • Denim Du Jour was opaque on the first coat, probably sufficient for most, but on my wide nail beds, a second coat was needed to cover the sides evenly.
  • The wear time was typical of a dark polishes–I experienced slight tip wear by the third day with minor chipping on the fourth day, ultimately requiring a major overhaul by the sixth day.

Morgan Taylor Sweet Surrender:

  • Sweet Surrender was such a pleasant surprise; the pinky beige hue provided just the right amount of pink without making my hands look sickly–extremely flattering against my olive skin.  The sheer formula was not patchy on the first coat; however, a second coat gave the polish a more uniformed look.
  • This is a great polish for those who work in a professional environment or those who want a fast easy shade to apply anytime of the year for a refined look.
  • As with all polishes, wear time will vary depending on one’s activities.  Sweet Surrender lasted a full five days before I experienced minor chipping; however, by the fourth day, I did notice fine line fractures along the top sides of the nails–not visible to anyone only my fastidious eye  🙂
Morgan Taylor Sweet Surrender.

  • Typical of most polishes on the market today, Morgan Taylor’s polishes are 3-free.  The wide “professional” brush head does make application a pleasure.  The ergonomically designed handle feels comfortable and provides a secure grip when opening and closing the bottle.
  • Another amazing aspect, unique to the brand, is the Virtual Salon feature on their website.  This program allows the customer to see what the polish will look like based on skin tone and nail length.  The polishes are conveniently organized by color and/or finish making the virtual experience easy and fun.  Check it out (here).
  • Morgan Taylor polishes come in over 150 shades and 6 finishes: Creme, Sheer, Glitter, Pearl, Metallic & Shimmer.

**Mogan Taylor Nail Lacquer can be found at JCPenny.com, Amazon, morgantaylor.com, and loxabeauty.com.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Morgan Taylor Nail Lacquer Denim Du Jour and Sweet Surrender are a fantastic value for the quality.  The extensive color selection, affordable price, wide brush head and smooth consistency is sure to please anyone.  Will I be getting anymore MT polishes?  Of course–next time I decide to do some online shopping for my boys I must remember, two pants for them, three polishes for me.  🙂  See how I roll?  Until next time, be well, stay safe and be happy.

Essie Bahama Mama is One Smokin’ Mama.

Essie Bahama Mama.

Essie Bahama Mama.

Once in a while, I’m truly taken aback when an impulse purchase turns out to work in my favor.  Essie Bahama Mama ($8.50 USD/.46 fl.oz.) beautiful deep cream plum shade immediately caught my attention. Given my love-hate relationship with this brand, I had a moment of, “should I or shouldn’t I,” for about 2.5 seconds.  However, my hesitation was subdued as soon as I realized what a perfect accompaniment this color would make for all of my dark toned lip colors.  Yeah, that’s right I said it, matching lips and nails are back–baby!

Essie Bahama Mama.

Essie Bahama Mama with flash.

  • Normally, Essie is not my go-to brand for nail polishes; the inconsistent texture and thin brush always seemed like more work than they were worth.  However, Bahama Mama has turned my bias frown upside down.
  •  As it turns out, Bahama Mama not only has the catchiest name in town, but the color and formula are truly amazing.  The thicker formula clung well to the brush to deliver even and smooth results.  This warm plum/red, complimented my olive skin tone perfectly and would easily suit a variety of other complexions, nail lengths and ages.  Not to mention, how fabulous would this shade look on your tootsies?
Essie Bahama Mama.

Essie Bahama Mama without flash.

  • I was able to wear Bahama Mama for five days without any chipping and slight tip wear.  However, by the sixth day, chipping was quite noticeable; perhaps, due to the cold or stress of putting up Christmas decorations.  Be that as it may, for an eight dollar nail polish, this beauty lasted just as well as some competitors that sell for three times the amount.
Essie Bahama Mama.

Essie Bahama Mama.

  • As mentioned earlier, the brush on Essie polishes has always been a bit of a hindrance for someone like me, with wide nail beds.  However, since this particular formula is a bit thicker than what I have normally experience with Essie polishes, I found the narrow design of the brush rather beneficial for accurate color placement.  As you can tell by the photos above, I was able to cleanly polish the sides of the nails with exacting results.

For a limited time, Essie is offering this holiday set that includes:

  • mademoiselle (the most classic grown-up pink)
    smokin’ hot (stone-cold fox gray)
    butler please (indulgent bright blue)
bahama mama (warm, rich, creamy deep plum)
    jazzy jubilant (chromatic confetti-like glitter)

Essie nail polishes are sold at–Macys, Beauty.com, Nordstrom, Target, etc..

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Bahama Mama is one of the best colors I have ever come across.  The 3-free formula, the lovely texture, reasonable price, accessibility and amazing color and wear have made me look at Essie in a whole new light.  Just get this color and envision how stylish and utterly fabulous your nails will look when ripping the wrapping off those holiday presents 🙂  Be well, stay safe and be happy.

Giorgio Armani 705 Black Petrol Nail Lacquer is a High-Octane Showstopper.

Giorgio Armani 705 Black Petrol Nail Lacquer.

Giorgio Armani 705 Black Petrol Nail Lacquer.

Giorgio Armani 705 Black Petrol Nail Lacquer ($20 USD/ .2 fl.oz.) has held me captive for the past three weeks.  This rich dark shimmering polish has extinguished any desire to wear another shade.  The refined complex shimmers, impeccable application, and exquisite finish has solidified this color as one of my favorites.  IMCT is completely smitten and truthfully speaking, the mere mention of Armani Beauty makes my knees buckle and my heart pound–in other words, I’m in love–at least until the next GA purchase 🙂  I hope you enjoy.

Giorgio Armani 705 Black Petrol Nail Lacquer.

Giorgio Armani 705 Black Petrol Nail Lacquer brush head.

Black Petrol is a black based nail color loaded with the most refined green and blue shimmers.  Despite the abundance of shimmer, the finish is smooth and the application is seamless.  The formula on Armani polishes is a bit thicker than normal, this makes color placement relatively easy.  This polish adheres to the widened brush perfectly and spreads out evenly on the nail.

Black Petrol 3-free formula’s dry time is impressive as well; my manicure was finished before it even began. Due to the ultra-refined shimmers used, removal is as effortless as with any other polish, sans staining.

Giorgio Armani 705 Black Petrol Nail Lacquer.

Giorgio Armani 705 Black Petrol Nail Lacquer indoor lighting.

Indoor lighting does not reveal the gorgeous shimmers as brilliantly as when the color is exposed to the sun.  However, the color still manages to look spectacular in any lighting situation.  The “Petrol” look is definitely noticeable in the above photo; who would have thought the image of gasoline on wet pavement would look so striking on the nails?  I know who…my man Giorgio 🙂

Just like Edward Cullen, Black Petrol truly “shines” in the presence of sunlight.  The gorgeous green shimmers seem to dominate and come out in full force.  This color looks particularly striking when paired with gold jewelry.  Unlike, 701 Bleu D’Armani Nail Lacquer (reviewed here), Black Petrol requires two coats.  The abundance of shimmer in the polish makes the first coat slightly uneven to my eye.  However, if you tend to be light handed in your application, you might be able to get away with using only one coat. This polish also lasts well on my overworked nails, with slight chipping evident by the fifth day.

One more shot of GA 705 Black Petrol clutching my lip combo for the week.  Just in case you are wondering (because I would), the below photo shows this combo in action.

Giorgio Armani 705 Black Petrol is sold at Nordstrom, Saks, Neiman Marcus, and giorgioarmanibeauty-usa.com.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Giorgio Armani 705 Black Petrol is another hit in my growing Armani collection. With 21 colors to choose from, which shade tickles your fancy?  Personally, 502 Scarletto has expressed a very strong interest in becoming my next object of affection 🙂  Be well, stay safe and be happy.

Guerlain 168 L'Heure Bleue La Laque Couleur.

Guerlain 168 L’Heure Bleue La Laque Couleur.

Every time I seek out a new nail color to purchase, I’m somehow always swayed by the allure and seductive nature of plum/red shades.  I feel like Michael Corleone in Godfather 3, “Just when I think [I’m done with darker shades], they seem to pull me back in.”  These types of colors scream fall/winter and Guerlain 168 L’Hueure Bleue La Lacque Couleur ($25 USD/.33 fl. oz.) had me at first-sight.  This latest temptation demonstrates, pretty shiny things can also be exceptional in quality and performance.  Well…that’s my story and I’m sticking to it 🙂

The Pros to Guerlain 168 L’Heure Bleue La Laque Couleur:

  1. Gorgeous berry red color with silver micro-shimmers.
  2. Beautiful hefty packaging–this is one nail polish bottle I would proudly display.
  3. Opacity is obtained using two coats.
  4. Applies smoothly and settles evenly on the nails.
  5. “Long-lasting” shine lasts for a good three days.
  6. Wide brush splays out perfectly to accommodate a variety of nail widths and lengths.
  7. Dries faster than the average drugstore nail polish.
  8. Decorative top is easily removable for application.
  9. Lasted beautifully for five days with minor chipping by the sixth day.
  10. Although not advertised as 3-free (formaldehyde, toluene and dibutyl phthalate (DBP), I could not find these chemicals within the ingredients.
  11. Made in France.

The Cons to Guerlain 168 L’Heure Bleue La Laque Couleur:

  1. Similar to Chanel polishes, the beautiful micro-shimmers do not show upon application.
  2. Color changes depending on lighting conditions.
  3. Gueralin has 11 colors in their polish line-up; IMHO not enough of a bold color selection.

Makeup would tell you Guerlain 168 L’Heure Bleue La Laque Couleur is a magnificent polish.  I mean, it’s Guerlain for goodness sake, I need not delve into further flattering rhetoric.  More directly, just get this beauty, you will not regret it 🙂  Be well, stay safe and be happy.

Giorgio Armani Nail Lacquer 701 Bleu D’Armani.

Giorgio Armani Nail Lacquer 701 Bleu D’Armani ($20 6ml. 2fl. oz.) has been on my must-buy list for some time now.  The promise of a long-lasting color, a specially designed flat-widen brush, exceptional application and shine was too enticing to resist.  Will this dark navy midnight delight be everything Armani claims, or will this be another overpriced designer dud?  You’ll see 🙂

The Pros to Giorgio Armani Nail Lacquer 701 Bleu D’Armani:

  1. Beautiful deep navy color with a cream finish.
  2. Opacity is reached using ONE coat!!!
  3. Thicker formula applies smoothly and settles evenly.
  4. One bottle is sure to last as long as any standard size polish that utilizes 2-3 coats.
  5. Wide flat brush makes application fast and easy.
  6. Manicure lasted well for 6 days without any chipping, with a fresh top coat added on the fourth day.
  7. Removes easily with my Zoya Polish Remover.
  8. Slimmer bottle design makes for convenient storage.
  9. Although not advertised as 3-free, Toluene, Formaldehyde and DBP are not listed among the ingredients.
  10. 30 professional and sophisticated colors to choose from–no hexagon glitter polishes here.
  11. Made in Spain.

The Cons to Giorgio Armani Nail Lacquer 701 Bleu D’Armani:

  1. Amount given .2 fl.oz. is well below the standard .5 fl. oz. polishes…but the quality is far superior.
  2. Two coats will result in a thicker application that could easily chip.
  3. Not all GA counters carry the nail lacquer collection.
  4. In two major department stores, the GA polish displays were hidden.  I found the polish testers in a drawer beneath the GA blushes and bronzers.  One sales associate swore GA did not make nail polishes…What?

Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Nail Lacquer review and photos.

Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Nail Lacquer in natural light.

Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Nail Lacquer in natural light.

As you may very well know, I adore Estee Lauder 450 Insolent Plum Pure Color Envy Lipstick (reviewed here).  So imagine my surprise when I discovered Estee Lauder also makes a matching nail color, part of the Pure Color Envy Collection.  With the blink of the eye and the sleight of hand of a skillful magician, an isolated bottle of Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Nail Lacquer ($21 USD/.3 fl. oz.) found its way to my home.  This beautiful berry red polish was displayed in the most remote location at Bloomingdales…Friends, “Nobody puts [this] Baby in the corner.”

Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Nail Lacquer with flash.

Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Nail Lacquer with flash.

Estee Lauder Insolent Plum has to be one of the most beautiful plum colors I have come across in a long time.  In natural light, the slight red undertones are quite evident, giving this stunner a warmth and brightness that sets it apart from other polishes in the “plum” color family. In the presence of flash photography and during darker lighting conditions, Insolent Plum takes on a deeper tone, but definitely does not cross into “black nail polish” territory.

Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Nail Lacquer.

Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Nail Lacquer.

The brush is a bit thinner than what I am accustomed to using.  However, the formula is the winning feature of this polish; the coverage is smooth and even.  Two coats are all that is needed to reach complete opacity.  The high shine and chip resistant polish will most likely last a good 5 days before I feel the need to remove this beauty.  I am currently wearing Insolent Plum for three days and it looks as fresh as the day I applied it to my nails (this will vary according to one’s activities).  Estee Lauder polishes are considered 3-free; thankfully, most polishes these days fall into this category.

Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Nail Lacquer.

Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Nail Lacquer in natural light.

Insolent Plum would be appropriate for a variety of occasions, nail lengths, ages and skin tones.  Best of all, Insolent Plum Nail Lacquer goes perfectly with, you guess it, Insolent Plum Pure Color Envy Lipstick. Even though, some might consider coordinating nail polish and lip color so 1983, this matching set is stylish, modern and attractive.

Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Nail Lacquer and Estee Lauder 450 Insolent Plum Pure Color Envy Lipstick.

Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Nail Lacquer with Estee Lauder 450 Insolent Plum Pure Color Envy Lipstick.

The Pure Color Envy Collection Nail Lacquers with coordinating lipsticks are:

  • Envious (cream finish)
  • Impassioned (cream finish)
  • Insolent Plum (cream finish)
  • Red Ego (cream finish)
  • Tumultuous Pink (cream finish)

Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Nail Lacquer can be found at Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Macy’s and esteelauder.com.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Estee Lauder Insolent Plum Pure Color Nail Lacquer is a must-have.  If you seek a brightening plum polish with amazing shine and longevity, then this color and formula is for you.  Just like its lipstick companion, Insolent Plum Nail Lacquer is sure to get you noticed.  Be well, stay safe and be happy.

Lancome 441N Midnight Rose Vernis In Love review and photos.

Lancome 411N Midnight Rose Vernis In Love.

Lancome 441N Midnight Rose Vernis In Love.

Lancome has been a welcomed surprise in the nail polish department.  Since the purchase of Lancome 585N Noir Caviar Vernis In Love (reviewed here) a few weeks ago, I have since returned to Sephora to purchase another color, Lancome 441N Midnight Rose Vernis In Love ($15 USD/6ml/.21 fl. oz.).  The beautiful deep violet hue is appropriate for all age groups and for any occasion; tack on the amazing wear and high shine quality, for the ultimate nail polish formula.

Lancome 411N Midnight Rose Vernis In Love.

Lancome 441N Midnight Rose Vernis In Love.

Lancome 441N Midnight Rose Vernis In Love applied with the greatest of ease.  Opacity was reached using two coats, resulting in a smooth and even finish.  This is one of the best nail polish formulas I have ever come across; the polish has a very stable consistency that adheres to the nail beautifully and rarely seeps out onto the cuticle.

Lancome 411N Midnight Rose Vernis In Love.

Lancome 441N Midnight Rose Vernis In Love.

441N Midnight Rose lasted six days on my nails without any chipping.  By Day 5, the polish did not look as “fresh,” but from afar, no one would have been the wiser.  Another alluring quality has to do with the ease in which this polish is removed.  My Zoya Polish Remover easily lifts the polish from the nail beds without leaving any residual staining.

Lancome 411N Midnight Rose Vernis In Love brush head.

Lancome 441N Midnight Rose Vernis In Love brush head.

The brush on Lancome Vernis In Love polishes is perfection.  The brush design is intended to accommodate a variety of nail widths and lengths.  This brush splays out perfectly on the nail bed for optimum color placement, using minimum brush strokes.

Bottle Size Comparisons: OPI, Chanel, Estee Lauder, Lancome 411N Midnight Rose Vernis In Love, Dior, and Deborah Lippmann.

Bottle Size Comparisons:
OPI, Chanel, Estee Lauder, Lancome 441N Midnight Rose Vernis In Love, Dior, and Deborah Lippmann.

My only criticism lies with the amount/price ratio.  Lancome Vernis In Love polishes offer well below what other nail polish brands provide.  As you can tell by the photo, my little Lancome 441N Midnight Rose Vernis In Love is the tiniest of the lot.  However, despite the measly amount, I would not hesitate for one moment to add more Lancome polishes to my collection; they are that good.

Lancome Vernis In Love Polishes can be found at Nordstrom, Sephora, Saks, etc..

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Lancome 441N Midnight Rose Vernis in Love is an outstanding polish.  If you are in the market for a chip-resistant/fade resistant lacquer, a beautiful deep violet color, compact packaging, and heavenly formula, then Lancome Vernis In Love polishes are for you.  Be well, stay safe, and be happy.  For those living in New York…Happy Last Day of School 🙂

Lancome Noir Caviar 585N Vernis In Love review and photos.

Lancome Noir Caviar 585N Vernis in Love.

Lancome Noir Caviar 585N Vernis In Love.

While at Sephora, checking out Lancome Rouge in Love Lipsticks (based on my sister’s recommendation), my attention was inexplicably diverted to Lancome Noir Caviar 585N Vernis In Love ($15 USD/ 6ml/.21 fl. oz.).  I had no intention of purchasing a nail polish, but there was something so appealing about the color, brush, consistency and packaging, I decided to take the plunge.  Would this new polish make me fall “In Love” or ignite feelings of temporary lust?  You’ll see 🙂

Day 1: Lancome Noir Caviar 585N Vernis in Love.

Day 1:
Lancome Noir Caviar 585N Vernis In Love.

The Pros of Lancome Noir Caviar 585N Vernis In Love:

  1. Beautiful dark deep gray cream with a hint of a teal/blue undertone–keeps polish from looking black from afar.
  2. Thin smooth consistency makes application a breeze.
  3. Settles evenly on the nails without any streaks.
  4. Opacity is reached using two coats (some may find one coat sufficient).
  5. Resulting color is rich and truly “high-shine.”
  6. Brush head will accommodate a variety of nail widths and lengths.
  7. Dries fairly quickly.
  8. Amazing wear–chip-free for 5-6 days depending on one’s activities.  According to lancome-usa.com, “Multi-Polymers Complex provides a film that protects color and keeps nails perfectly polished.”  For reference I use Revlon Colorstay Base Coat with Out the Door Fast Drying Top Coat.
  9. Easily removable with my trusty Zoya Nail Polish Remover.
  10. Not advertised as 3-free, but I could not find Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, Toluene, or DBP in the ingredients.
  11. Polishes are categorized in 3 moods:  Letter M shades are brighter/daytime appropriate, Letter B shades are boudoir shades for cocktail hour (whatever that means), and Letter N shades are intense shades (my favorite category).
  12. Small compact bottle is easily stored.
  13. 26 colors offered with exclusive shades on lancome-usa.com.

The Cons to Noir Caviar 585N Vernis In Love:

  1. Amount (.21 fl oz) is well below what most standard polishes offer (.5 fl.oz.).
  2. Sephora does not carry the entire Lancome Vernis In Love color line.
  3. Noir Caviar 585N is listed on Sephora.com and Nordstrom.com as Noir Angora 585N, but my bottle (purchased at Sephora) clearly states Noir Caviar 585N.  Lancome also lists this shade as Noir Caviar 585N.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Lancome Noir Caviar 585N Vernis In Love is a must have shade/formula.  I can honestly say this little bottle of murky goodness has made its way to the tippy top of my list as one of the best nail polish formulas..ever!!  My next color(s) will be 473N Rouge Reglisse and then Marine Chic, etc..  I think it is safe to say, I’m officially “In Love” with Lancome Nail Polish.  Be well, stay safe and be happy.

Illamasqua Facet Nail Varnish.

As mentioned many times, Illamasqua Nail Varnishes are one of my favorite nail polishes.  While perusing the Illamasqua site, I stumbled across the Sacred Hour Collection and one particular item immediately caught my attention.  Illamasqua Facet Nail Varnish ($17 USD/ .5 fl.oz.) seemed quite unique and wearable, therefore, worthy of a purchase 🙂

The Pros to Illamasqua Facet Nail Varnish:

  1. Amazing taupe base color with gold and bronze shimmers throughout the polish.
  2. Applies effortlessly with hardly any migration toward the cuticles.
  3. Medium consistency settles smoothly on nails.
  4. Opacity is achieved using 2 coats.
  5. Lasts 4-6 days without any chipping depending on one’s activities.
  6. Beautiful bronze/gold shimmers are noticeable at all times; however, the polish comes to life in the presence of sunlight.
  7. Office appropriate or for any occasion.
  8. Would suit a variety of skin tones and makes a dynamite pedicure color.
  9. Brush head is fashioned for a variety of nail widths and lengths.
  10. Amount offered (.5 fl. oz.) is more than standard higher-end polishes.
  11. Removes easily with my trusty Zoya Remover.

The Cons to Illamasqua Facet Nail Varnish:

  1. Availability is an issue in the United States.  I had to track this color down at a Bloomingdales location in Huntington , NY (yeah, I know…crazy).
  2. Not on Sephora.com…in fact, Illamasqua altogether is being pulled out of certain Sephora locations 🙁
  3. The formula has been changed (Formaldehyde Resin (explained here) has been removed)…when Facet does begin to chip, large sections fly off.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Illamasqua Facet Nail Varnish is a unique color worthy of acquisition.  If you like long-lasting polishes with dimensional color and finish, then Facet is for you.  At the time of my purchase, Facet was not available at Bloomingdales in NYC, however, now (of course) it is available for immediate shipment.  I hope you enjoyed.  Be well and stay safe.

Illamasqua Baptiste Nail Varnish review and removal.

Illamasqua Baptiste Nail Varnish.

Illamasqua Baptiste Nail Varnish.

For this Nail of the Week, I chose an oldie (my bottle is three years old), but a goody polish from my collection.  Illamasqua Baptiste Nail Varnish ($17 USD/.5 fl.oz.) is a gorgeous darkened purple with red and violet micro shimmers.  Illamasqua (Cosmetics for Your Alter Ego) makes one of my favorite nail polish formulations.  The colors are vibrant, the consistency is smooth, the formula is opaque, and the lasting power is phenomenal.  Who wouldn’t love that?

Illamasqua Baptiste Nail Varnish.

Illamasqua Baptiste Nail Varnish.

Illamasqua Baptiste Nail Varnish is very dark and almost resembles a black polish from afar.  However, this polish really comes to life in the presence of flash photography and sunlight.  The extremely fine red and violet micro-shimmers give Baptiste a distinguishable glow.  Two coats are all that is needed to achieve full opacity.  The brush is shaped perfectly to accommodate a variety of nail widths and lengths.  I especially love the longevity of this polish; I can easily get 4-5 days of wear without any chipping. Of course, this will vary according to one’s activities.  Applying a fresh top coat to the polish on the third day, prolongs the wear for up to 6 days of chip-fee nails.

Formaldehyde Resin Explained:

Illamasqua Nail Varnishes are not promoted as 3-free.  Although, I did not find DBP, Toluene or Formaldehyde (which is actually a gas and technically not present in polishes) amongst the ingredients, Formaldehyde Resin (which is derived from Formaldehyde) is an ingredient.  This chemical is responsible for giving polishes shine and durability.  So if you have a known allergy to Formaldehyde, then it is really Formaldehyde Resin that you should avoid in your polish.  Seeing that FR is the fifth ingredient in Illamasqua Baptiste, this explains why the wear is so resilient.  To my knowledge, OPI and Marc Jacob polishes also use FR in their polishes.  Therefore, read ingredient lists and decide for yourself.

Removal of Illamasqua Baptiste Nail Varnish:

As with my Illamasqua Phallic Nail Varnish (reviewed here), removal can be a little challenging.  I find my Zoya nail polish remover and the foil method to work especially well when trying to remove dark and glitter polishes.  I realize the initial prep work may seem time-consuming, but the hassle-free removal makes the effort worth it.

Foil Method to remove Illamasqua Baptiste Nail Varnish.

Foil Method to remove Illamasqua Baptiste Nail Varnish.

Foil Method for Nail Polish Removal:

  • Cut out ten foil squares and 10 cotton pads split into halves.
  • Saturate each cotton pad with nail polish remover and place it on the nail.
  • Take your foil and wrap it around the saturated cotton pad on each nail.
  • Leave the foil on for 7-10 minutes (longer for glitter polishes), to give the remover time to break down the polish.
  • Remove the foil and cotton pad together by wiggling the foil back and forth to make sure all polish has been removed.
  • At this point, any residual polish will easily come off with an additional saturated cotton pad.

Ingredient List for Illamasqua Baptiste Nail Varnish:

THE VERDICT: If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Illamasqua Baptiste Nail Varnish is a beautiful color.  This deep purple hue looks chic and the longevity, consistency and brush head only add to the allure.  I absolutely love Illamasqua polishes and would highly recommend you check them out ASAP.  Which color(s) will you choose?  Be well and stay safe.

L’Oréal Extraordinaire Gel-Lacque 1-2-3 Kit review and photos.

L'Oréal Extraordinaire Gel-Lacque Day 1.

L’Oréal Extraordinaire Gel-Lacque Bold Bordeaux            Day 1.

How many times have you glanced at your nail polish collection and dreaded applying the darker shades? The precision that is required, the removal process, and the lack of longevity make the prospect of application seem unbearable.  So why do we endure this aggravation?  The answer is as simple as what Al Pacino said in Devil’s Advocate, “Vanity [darling], definitely my favorite sin” 🙂   L’Oréal Extraordinarie Gel-Lacque 1-2-3 Kit ($18-6.99 US .39 fl. oz × 3) promises to deliver a long-lasting gel-like manicure you can easily achieve at home, without UV lamps, that is easily removable, affordable, with intense color and shine.  Does it deliver on all accounts?  Come with me my friends and let us see 🙂

According to L’Oréal:

Introducing our exclusive 3-step nail system for spectacular nails like you’ve never seen before. New L’Oréal Paris Extraordinaire Gel-Lacque provides high-gloss, and resilient shine while protecting nail color from dings, dents and scratches. Get the high-shine of a UV-Gel and the perfect nail shape without harmful UV rays.

  • STEP 1:  GEL PRIMER  Nail surface is instantly smooth and flawless
  • STEP 2:  GEL COLOR Color is richer, magnified to a new level of intensity nails are visibly thicker
  • STEP 3:  GEL GLAZE Shine is captured and reflected from every angle

L'Oréal Extraordinaire Gel-Lacque Day 2.

L’Oréal Extraordinaire Gel-Lacque Bold Bordeaux Day 2.

L'Oréal Extraordinaire Gel-Lacque Day 3.

L’Oréal Extraordinaire Gel-Lacque Bold Bordeaux Day 3.

The Pros:

  1. Kit offers a specially designed Step 1 base coat and Step 3 top coat.  Step 2 colors are sold separately.
  2. Step 2 Gel-Lacques come in 21 colors.
  3. 713 Bold Bordeaux Gel-Lacque is a beautiful rich bordeaux color that is not too vampy.
  4. Curing UV lamps are not required to set the polish.
  5. Alcohol pads are not required as a final step.
  6. Step 2 colors have a thin consistency.  Two coats must be applied for the system to work.
  7. Step 2 colors apply matte, but Step 3 top coat gives a glossy finish to the nails that last longer than a “regular” top coat.
  8. Polish keeps it composure nicely for 4-5 days without any base wear or cracking.
  9. Intense color lasts well throughout a week of cleaning (I use rubber gloves), laundry, cooking, extreme cold weather, etc..
  10. Slight tip wear is evident by the fourth day.
  11. From afar, manicure looks freshly applied even by the fourth day.
  12. Dries faster than a typical manicure.
  13. The brush is wide enough to accommodate a variety of nail widths and lengths.
  14. Unlike gel manicures, L’Oréal Extraordinarie Gel-Lacque truly removes easily with just a nail polish remover.  I use Zoya (here).
  15. Initial payment of the kit costs less than one gel manicure or regular manicure from the salon.

The Cons:

  1. Not a gel manicure but more gel-like.  The 3 Step System gives longer-lasting results than the typical nail polishes out on the market, but by Day 6 chipping becomes very evident.
  2. Huge price discrepancy amongst retailers; know your prices and utilize coupons.
  3. Thin layers are required for all steps.  Thick application will result in immediate chipping and completely defeat the purpose of this kit.
  4. Step 1 and 3 can only be used with L’Oréal Extrodinarie colors.
  5. Personally, my nails did not appear thicker as the ad claims.
  6. Step 2 colors are mostly cream finishes (at least at my location).

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you L’Oréal Extraodinarie Gel-Lacque 1-2-3 Kit is really a wonderful product.  I was quite happy with the vibrancy of the color and duration of my manicure.  If you are like me and cannot tolerate going to a nail salon to get a gel manicure or any manicure (I have issues with the pungent odors), then this kit would make a good investment.  Even though this kit will not give a gel manicure, it could come in handy when you require spectacular looking nails for a long weekend get away.  As an added incentive, L’Oréal’s gel-like system is healthier for your nails as opposed to gel manicures, which are quite destructive to the nails.  Will you be trying this system or pass?   Be well and stay safe.
