Things I Have Been Loving: Volume 3.

Things I Have Been Loving:

Things I Have Been Loving.

I don’t know about anyone else, but the ridiculously cold weather has transformed my outdoorsy nature, and reduced it to hermit status.  I have absolutely no desire to brave the cold temperatures; unnecessary stops (aka: department store detours) have been temporarily ceased.  As a result, instead of impulsively buying more makeup, I have decided to “shop my stash” and pair some of my newest acquisitions with some old reliable(s).  I hope you enjoy this edition of Things I Have Been Loving.

Things I Have Been Loving: Kjaer Weis Magnetic

Things I Have Been Loving:
Kjaer Weis Magnetic topped with Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow 9 Gold.

 Kjaer Weis Divine Eyeshadow

Things I Have Been Loving:
Kjaer Weis Divine Eyeshadow topped with Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow 9 Gold.

  • Kjaer Weis Magnetic and Divine Eyeshadows have become a bit of an obsession.  Rather than ignoring my other silicone lovelies, I decided pairing them would be the most logical solution.
  • Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow 9 Gold applies beautifully on top of Magnetic and Divine eyeshadows, giving the normally conservative duo a bit of pizzaz.
  • Guerlain 02 Bleu Outremer has also been used faithfully since its purchase.  The deep navy liner adds an elegant touch to all my looks and the hassle-free removal at night makes this gem even more alluring.
  • Billy B #12 Brush works beautifully with KW shadows to apply my outer “v” color with blended precision.
  • Trish McEvoy #29 Tapered Brush has been in my collection for years.  This brush is not the softest around, but the perfectly tapered head is ideal for applying and smoking out just the right amount of color to my lower lash line, using minimal effort.
Kjaer Weis Radiance Highlighter .

Things I Have Been Loving:
Kjaer Weis Radiance Highlighter used as an eyeshadow with MAC Uninterrupted on the lower lash line.

  • Kjaer Weis Radiance Highlighter has been used as a cheek highlighter, an inner corner highlighter and an illuminating stand alone eyeshadow. The 95% organic ingredients and fantastic wear has morphed me into a KW groupie 🙂
  • MAC Uninterrupted has been in my collection for three years.  This warm sepia color looks amazing when worn on the lower lash line, as a stand alone color on the mobile lid, and in the crease.  Frankly, this is one eyeshadow that can do it all and look amazing against any eye color.
  • Waxelene is a wonderful all natural/organic petroleum jelly alternative.  This wonderful product was brought to my attention by, Olivia from The Unknown Beauty Blog (here).  Her honest and detail reviews are always filled with the most helpful tips.  For instance, did you know you can use Waxelene to help press pigments?  No?  Well, Olivia has shown us the light (here).  Personally, this jar was purchased with the intent to relieve dry skin on my legs.  Not only does it work beautifully on the entire body, but I have also used this emollient wonder as a facial moisturizer (in moderation). This product is very similar to Egyptian Magic, without the overly hard texture and inflated price.
  • MAC Cosmetics Pro Palette Single is sturdy and reasonably priced.  At $8 USD, this customizable palette houses my powder foundation, eyeshadows and powder highlighter–a steal considering the competitor’s product is almost 3x as much and made from cardboard.
Essie Topless and Barefoot brush

Things I Have Been Loving:
Essie Topless and Barefoot brush switched for a Wet N Wild Megalast brush.

Essie Topless and Barefoot

Essie Topless and Barefoot

Essie Topless and Barefoot with WnW top (taken with flash).

  • Essie Topless and Barefoot has been used approximately twice in the past two years.  The thin brush and thick formula never really worked well together to give an even application on my wide nail beds. However, since I decided to change the brush head for a wider more substantial brush, like the one found on Wet n Wild Megalast polishes, application is fast and easy.  This opaque color levels out beautifully by the second coat, giving professional looking results.  Even though Topless and Barefoot chips within two days, I love the clean refined look this shade gives the hands.  Removal is a breeze (as with all light polishes) and a fresh manicure can be achieved in no time–thanks to the thicker brush.
Things I Have Been Loving

Things I Have Been Loving in Action.

Shiseido and Girlactik

Things I Have Been Loving:
Girlactik Demure Matte Lip Paint topped with Shiseido RD203 Lacquer Rouge.

  • YSL 11 Prune Impertinente Baby Doll Kiss and Blush light mousse-like texture gives the most realistic flush to the cheeks.  Should you require a long-lasting “cream” blush, then look no further than this product.
  • Girlactik Demure Matte Lip Paint is just as important in my collection as her equally beguiling sister, Allure.  Both colors have freed me from ever having to wear lipliner.  Demure looks amazing on her own and especially paired with RD203.
  • Shiseido Lacquer Rouge RD203 is my perfect “nude” lip shade.  This particular tube has been in my collection for three years and it’s still going strong.  When paired with Demure, the results are flattering against my olive complexion.  Both RD203 and RD702 (mid-tone red-brown) bond with Demure and last well over the five-hour mark, all the while, remaining glossy and hydrating on the lips. Why I ever turn my back on these, I will never know.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you some of these products have proven themselves to be rather dependable in my life. When paired with some newbies, the results are even better.  In the meanwhile, I’m off to photograph and test some new Kjaer Weis blushes that were generously gifted to me by my husband.  Will they perform as well as YSL #11?  Stay tuned.  Until next time, be well, stay safe, be happy and warm 🙂

Things I Have Been Loving: Volume 2.

Things I Have Been Loving: Volume 2.

Things I Have Been Loving: Volume 2.

I love seeing posts on monthly favorites and often contemplate doing them myself.  However, my personal favorites do not change on a monthly basis, rather morph with the seasons.  By now, I’m sure all of you have realized Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Solo Eyeshadows are magnificent, Nars Eyeshadow Primer is indispensable and Inglot AMC Gel liner is my HG tightline color.  So for this edition of, Things I Have Been Loving, I will show you some of the items that have been brought out of storage and bring me great solace–along with a few new goodies 🙂  I hope you enjoy.

  • Too Faced Medium/Deep Chocolate Soliel Bronzer has been in my collection for years and my old compact looked like it was ready for the undertaker.  This chocolate scented matte bronzer is really the best tone for my coloring.  Normally, I’m all about the “glow”, but as my skin returns to its original pasty coloring, I’m finding the matte texture of this bronzer more compatible.
  • Bare Minerals Ready Blush in The Indecent Proposal is newly acquired, but I can tell you this beauty is just as good, if not better, than some higher-end blushes.  This dusty plum color closely resembles Nars Sin, but sans the parabens and inflated price.  This subtly infused gold plum shade compliments my skin beautifully and gives the most realistic flush to the cheeks.
  • Guerlain Lingerie De Peau Nude Powder Foundation (reviewed here) is a wonder.  There are times I look at photos of myself and wonder, “Is that really my skin?”  It’s that good.  Try it and see for yourself–that’s if you can find a color match.
  • Dior Mini Kabuki Brush came with my Dior Skin Bronzer and I find this soft little creature buffs in my powder foundation to perfection.  Truth be told, I also have been using this little guy to apply my bronzer and blush.  What can I say, if a brush works, wipe it clean between products and go to town. 🙂
  • Diorskin Star Concealer (seen here) was purchased because of Gyudy from Gyudy’s Notes of Beauty.  Since spying this concealer in her October favorites and reading her review, I knew I had to take the plunge–so glad that I did.  My review and comparisons will be up next week.
  • Dior Minuit Nail Lacquer (reviewed here and found here) was released last winter as part of Dior’s Holiday Collection and continues to be the most alluring color I have ever seen. Although Dior has release four new lacquers this holiday season (seen on Temptalia), I’m still mesmerized by the beauty of Minuit.  Smoky, a dark aubergine color, looks striking, but easily dupable and definitely not worth the extra expense.
  • Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Body Butter (reviewed here) is my go-to winter time facial moisturizer.  As you may already know, I only utilize oils (Argan, Coconut and Castor) as my daily moisturizers; however, during the cooler months my excessively dry skin needs a thicker balm.  This is the only cream that is all natural and rich enough to alleviate the tightening feeling on my skin.  I purchase the large 13.5 oz tub for my husband and one for myself, and we find the generous amount lasts the entire season.
  • Toyko Milk Dead Sexy Parfum is one of two scents I can tolerate.  The musky blend of vanilla, exotic wood, white orchid, and ebony is not overpowering and does not linger throughout the day.  I know the lasting power is not an immediate draw for some, but I prefer when fragrances dissipate within a four-hour window.
  • Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow Maestro (reviewed here) has become my HG brow product.  This cream formula adheres to the skin seamlessly and does not budge throughout the day–even stays put through a workout.  Who wouldn’t want that?
  • Burberry No.10 Smudger Eyebrush has been discontinued, but I find the tapered end and soft hairs perfectly diffuses GA Eye and Brow Wengewood on my brows.  I suppose MAC 119 would make a suitable substitute.
  • Lip Combination:  Girlactik Allure Matte Lip Paint (reviewed here) is my ultimate lipstick/lipgloss base. YSL The Mats 205 (reviewed here and recommended by my sweet Instagram friend Zvoncnjica26) is a deep dark seductive berry/plum color that has the most potent staining effect.  Dior Fluid Stick 995 Intrigue (reviewed here) compliments 205 perfectly.  Together, this combo makes one dynamite Holiday Lip.
  • Gold Hoop Earrings are classic and timeless.  This particular pair was purchased when I was 13 years old with my very first paycheck.  I recall Alyssa Milano sporting a similar pair on an episode of Who’s The Boss and I figured if she looked good in them, I would as well.  Fast forward, ten years later (did you catch that?) these little gems still manage to look good and are the ideal shape to wear with bulky scarfs.
  • Sydney Evan Diamond Disc Pendant has been worn non-stop.  I’m really enjoying the simplicity of this piece and how well it pairs with everything.  One need not go out and spend a fortune on a SE piece; many companies now produce similar designs for a fraction of the price.
  • Organic Whole Husk Psyllium is added to my post workout shake everyday.  My nutritionist sister (here) recommends this product to her clients to aid in healthy elimination.  I know this is not the typical beauty channel topic; however, this is something that does effect our health and the appearance of our skin.  I add a full scope (3 tablespoons–amount will vary from person to person) to my shake, along with Spirulina (seen here), Whey Protein Powder and Chia seeds.  Adding Psyllium to any flavored drink, would be highly recommended seeing as how it has a strong earthy flavor. Psyllium thickens the more it is submerged in a liquid, therefore drinking your shake within 5 minutes is highly advisable.  Read about all the health benefits of this fabulous product (here) and judge for yourself.

Utilizing the products mentioned. Due to the blaring sun in my all white bathroom, my skin looks particularity flawless. I wish I could surround myself with these lighting conditions all the time 🙂

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you some of these products are tried and true and other newly acquired gems have impressed me beyond expectation. 🙂  What are some things you have been loving?  Be well, stay safe and be happy.

Zoya Nail Polish Remover, Oribe Superfine Strong Hairspray, Rose Mountain Herbs Argan Oil, Crystal Essence Deodorant, YSL 205 Rouge Pur Couture The Mats, Lipstick Queen Entourage, Hourglass Diffused Light, Make Up For Ever Artist Shadows ME-654, M-510, and M-600, Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Solo #2 Armani Navy, Rapidlash, Chikuhodo Z-5, Memebox Brushes, Pomellato Nude Ring, Gold Hoop Earrings, and EZsizer Ring Guards.

This blog centers around all the things I love.  However, sometimes there are things that are utilized (and loved) that are only mentioned in passing.  I mean really, there is only so much you can say about nail polish remover to excite the masses.  So for this post, I will briefly highlight all the things that have been on constant rotation in my routine as of late.  Don’t be surprised if an odd item makes its way toward the middle or end.  After all, I write in my kitchen with the company/distraction of my children, impending dinner and a perpetually hungry dog circling around me at all times 🙂  I hope you enjoy.

    1. Zoya Nail Polish Remover removes all traces of polish swiftly without drying out the nails or cuticles.  As an added bonus, the smell is so much more pleasant than your average drugstore polish remover.
    2. Oribe Superfine Strong Hairspray smells heavenly and the superfine mist holds the most challenging hair styles in place.  A word of caution, if used in excess the build up can feel heavy and unpleasant.
    3. Mountain Rose Herbs Argan Oil is exactly the same as Josie Maran Argan Oil, without the inflated price tag. I can purchase 8 oz. of MRH Argan Oil for $44 USD as opposed to 2 oz. of Josie Maran Argan Oil for $48.  Both are organic, cold-pressed and unrefined..you be the judge.
    4. Crystal Essence Deodorant is aluminum-free, natural and perfect for the fall/winter season.  The Pomegranate Fragrance is refreshing and non-offensive.  Even my husband and son love this brand.
    5. YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats 205 (reviewed here) has been worn on its own and paired with every lipstick in my collection.  The berry tone is beyond suitable for the upcoming cooler weather and the stain left behind is rather potent.
    6. Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope Lipstick in Entourage (reviewed here) is the best matte lipstick IMHO.  Do I need to say more?  Nope…I’ll stop gushing now.
    7. Hourglass Diffused Light (compared to Nars here) has been brought out of hibernation for the fall/winter season.  This ambient powder promises to diffuse the look of imperfections…yada, yada, yada….I use it with a dry BeautyBlender and use the press and roll method around the T-Zone area. However, do tread lightly with this beauty…too much will result in photo flashback in flash photography.
    8. Make Up For Ever Artist Shadows ME-654, M-510 and M-600 (reviewed here and here) have been used everyday since their purchase.  The creamy texture is beyond dreamy..try them and see.
    9. Giorgio Armani Eyes To Kill Solo #2 Armani Navy (reviewed here) is the best matte navy color on the market.  Not even Make Up For Ever has a navy of this caliber in their 210 color line-up.  If you are looking for truly exceptional quality matte colors..GA is your man.
    10. Rapidlash was purchased at the beginning of summer.  My typical coconut/castor oil mixture has served me very well, however, I wanted to see if I could achieve the same results in less time. Ladies this not only works, but it works a little too well, on me (I have to trim my lashes).  In all fairness, I have very long lashes naturally so my goal was to gain volume. Incredibly long lashes have not only been obtained using this serum, but it seems my once-upon-a-time voluminous lashes have magically returned.  Application has now been downsized to every other night, with the continued use of my coconut/castor oil conditioning every night.  Costco now carries this brand for $49 for a pack of two.  Bed, Bath and Beyond also carries this brand and you can use your 20% or $5 off coupons.
    11. Chikuhodo Z-5 Eyeshadow Brush (reviewed here) is used everyday.  This beauty applies eyeshadow so quickly and defuses the most pigmented colors perfectly.  If you would like to invest in one quality Chikuhodo Brush, this would be my pick.
    12. Memebox Meme Eyebrow Brush (reviewed here) is used everyday to apply my tight line color, gel liners and/or dampened to apply powder eyeshadows as liner.  This little gem is worth the expense of the whole Meme Brush Set.
    13. Minimal Jewelry is the theme de jour.  I’m enjoying the simplicity of wearing one statement ring (Pomellato Nude Ring) with my plain 2 inch gold hoop earrings, sans necklaces and bracelets.
    14. EZsizer are wonderful ring guards used to protect rings and/or make rings fit more securely.  If you are like me and have enlarged knuckles and thin fingers, then these are a must for you.  I purchase the medium size for winter and the petite size for summer.
    15. Spirulina (read about the health benefits here) is suitable for internal and external use.  This green algae is added everyday in my post workout shake and applied once a week as a detoxifying mask. The idea for this mask came from Olivia from The Unknown Beauty Blog (here); in her wonderful post she outlines all the details to concoct this amazing mask.  Your skin feels so soft after the mask has been removed; frankly, everyone needs to get on the Spirulina bandwagon..That’s right I said it 🙂

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would like to know, “What have you been loving lately?”  Be well, stay safe and be happy.
