Giorgio Armani Eyes To Kill line is known and loved for their highly pigmented pressed cream/powder hybrid formula.  Taking the success of that line to another level, the Armani Empire has introduced a new powder eyeshadow formulation that delivers “bold eyeshadows in vibrant colors, inspired by the forces of nature.  Perfect matte thanks to color-fil velvet ™, for a lasting matte finish and instant color payoff. Elegant satin finish with color-fil satin, a transparent base that morphs with every skin tone for a perfect color result every time.”  Giorgio Armani 9 Tadzio Eyes To Kill Solo Eyeshadow ($32 USD/ 1.75g) was the one color I envision using the most–plus who could resist a great taupe?  Certainly not I, my friends.

The Pros to Giorgio Armani 9 Tadzio Eyes To Kill Solo Eyeshadow:

  1. Gorgeous neutral brown based taupe eyeshadow with a satin/metallic finish.
  2. Can be applied dry or wet.
  3. When 9 Tadzio is applied wet, the resulting “foiled” effect is sophisticated rather than ostentatious.
  4. Amazing color payoff, especially when applied with a dampened brush.
  5. Amazing range of highly pigment and bright colors.
  6. Lasts all day (10 hours +) when worn over an eyeshadow base.
  7. The surface texture of the eyeshadow does not harden when a dampened.
  8. No fallout in sight when used dry or wet.
  9. Creamy texture does not pull or tug on the delicate eyelid area.
  10. Adorable packaging comes with a mirror and sponge tip applicator, baring the GA signature insignia.
  11. Comes in 20 shades 6 mattes 14 satin.
  12. Can be mixed and blended with other eyeshadows from other brands.
  13. Formulated without parabens.

The Cons to Giorgio Armani 9 Tadzio Eyes To Kill Solo Eyeshadow:

  1. Quite expensive for the amount offered..I used a 20% coupon to reduce the blow of the expense.
  2. Some colors are very bright (#17, 18,19, 20) not recommended for an office environment.
  3. This formula contains petrolatum, hence the creamy texture.  I would have liked to see a more natural alternative (castor oil, argan oil, or avocado oil) used for the price point.
  4. More mature lids may find the satin colors too illuminating; however, the mattes look amazing.

After a damp brush is dipped directly into the eyeshadow pan, the affected area performs beautifully despite its “harden” surface appearance.

For this look, 9 Tadzio was applied with a dampened Sonia Kashuk Concealer Brush on the entire mobile lid.  The overall effect was refined and fast when paired with a black liner and mascara.  This is a great color to use for a no-brainer look and when time is of the essence.

For this look, more precise color application was required.  I used my Billy B #12 Brush (reviewed here) to apply 9 Tadzio along the lash line and blend it upward, in a wedge shape, toward the crease.  I used my Chikuhodo Z-5 Brush (reviewed here) to apply and blend 9 Tadzio in the crease.

For this look, I first applied 9 Tadzio along the lash line, similarly to Look 2, but added Bobbi Brown Espresso Eyeshadow (here) on top for a deeper color payoff.  I then layered another dusting of 9 Tadzio for a more glowing effect.  My bronzer was used for a crease color.

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Giorgio Armani 9 Tadzio Eyes To Kill Solo Eyeshadow is one of the most beautiful colors and formulation out on the market.  Of course, some will think this color not unique enough to warrant the expense, but I am of the mind-set, the “everyday” colors are worth the most investment.  Which color(s) will you choose?  Be well, stay safe and be happy.

Comments

  1. Beautiful color…and yes I too cannot resist a great taupe..This color will be mine!!!

  2. Oh no! This looks very lemming worthy! Is this anything like the eyeshadows that came in the jars? Or is this a completely different texture? That color looks gorgeous on you! I have to go look, I have so many thoughts buzzing in my head from this post! Need to take a look!

    • Hello Olivia,
My head was buzzing looking at all these eyeshadows. ETK Solos are not like the jarred Eyes To Kill..those were a hybrid of powder/cream and are made up of what Armani calls, “a kaleidoscope” of colors. These are strictly powder eyeshadows that are incredibly smooth, pigmented and long-wearing. I would only allow myself one color….for now 🙂 Thank you for the lovely compliment and support.

      • I was checking the website last night and they have MANY colors! And they all look beautiful. The hard part is resisting and only buying the ones that are really necessary.

        • Hello Olivia,
The colors are conveniently numbered from 1-20..without any rhyme or reason. I would like to add I just walked my darling dog for 30 minutes in 90 degree heat and this beauty did not budge. Good luck choosing just one color 🙂

  3. There are 20 colors to chose from?!?! I do not know where to start! I really like the dark colors, too, so next I will try #1, 16, 7, and 8! Thank you for introducing me to this great product. -Elisha

    • Hello Elisha,
The darker colors are gorgeous and your choices are fabulous. I want 2,3,8, and 16…heck just give me all of them 🙂
