Sephora Collection Color Lip Last 04 Brown is Back and 06 Blooming Rose review.

Sephora Collection Color Lip Last

Sephora Collection Color Lip Last 04 Brown is Back and 06 Blooming Rose.

Finding the right neutral lipstick is a very difficult task for those of us with an olive complexion.  The color has to have a perfect balance of cool and warm tones and possess a smooth texture.  So based on my past success with the Sephora Collection Color Lip Last Line (reviewed here), my eye immediately gravitated towards 04 Brown is Back and 06 Blooming Rose ($13 USD/1.8g).  The rich matte formula, remarkable wear, flattering colors and affordable price are nothing short of amazing 🙂   I hope you enjoy.

  • 04 Brown is Back is a pinky brown color that translate to a mauve hue on my lips.  This type of 90’s shade seems to have garnished some serious attention lately–and with good reason–Brown is Back seems to pair beautifully with every makeup look and appropriate for any occasion.
  • 06 Blooming Rose is exactly as the name would imply–the warm pink hue provided just the right amount of freshness without looking too pasty or overdone.
  • The formula of the matte shades perform exactly the same as a matte liquid lipstick–once they set (roughly 2 minutes) the color does not budge.
  • In all honesty, dryness does set in after the three-hour mark on dry cooler days, yet, on warmer days, the matte formula sat comfortably on my lips until I decided to remove it.  Clearly, these results will vary; however, the formula adheres so well to the lips, an oil-free gloss can easily be applied over the lipstick for added moisture and without bleeding into fine lip lines.

  • 04 Brown is Back applied smoothly without any tugging.  The color was opaque from the get-go and the thin bullet design is perfect for outlining the lips without the hassle of using a lipliner.  In fact, for those who suffer from feathering issues, like myself, the matte formula of the Color Lip Last Line is a Godsend.
  • For the second photo, Brown is Back was applied solely to clean bare lips and lasted perfectly for five hours and started to gradually fade by the sixth hour.
  • The third photo shows how creamy and rich the color appeared when paired with Dior Addict Fluid Stick in 219 Whisper Beige.  I prefer to add the smallest amount of gloss on my ring finger and lightly spread out the gloss on to my lips.  This method gives my lips moisture and shine without looking overly gloppy or glossy.  The gloss and lipstick combo lasted comfortably for six hours–longer if hadn’t removed it.   🙂
  • This shade also worked beautifully as a blush, as demonstrated in both photos.  I simply applied the color on my ring finger and proceeded to blend the pigment on to the cheeks.

  • For those individuals that are not too fond of brown based lip products, 06 Blooming Rose is a great everyday, go-with-anything, do-anything type of shade.
  • 06 Blooming Rose applied smoothly and lasted just as well as 04 Brown is Back.  Both colors performed exactly the same with or without a gloss.  The slight sweet grape fragrance is not offensive and dissipates in a matter of minutes.
  • For the above photo, 06 Blooming Rose was applied to clean bare lips and paired with a minimal amount of Dior Addict Fluid Stick in 219 Whisper Beige (reviewed here).

THE VERDICT:  If makeup could talk what would it say?

Makeup would tell you Sephora Collection Color Lip Last 04 Brown is Back and 06 Blooming Rose are must-have shades.  The long-lasting results, amazing color payoff, affordable price and accessibility have shamelessly made me ignore my higher-end lipsticks.  I have been wearing 04 Brown is Back so often, I’m almost ready to breakout my back-up–and that rarely happens.  Try a shade and see for yourself.  Until next time, be well, stay safe and be happy.

  1. I would have chosen those two also, definitely the colors that go with everything at anytime! Love the looks on you and how they work as blush! Now you can stop buying blush!!!

    • Hello Olivia,

IMHO, these two colors are the perfect “nude” matte lip shades for those of us who cannot pull-off the beige nude shades.

I was thinking the same thing, I don’t need to invest in another blush for quite awhile 🙂

  2. Ooooh I am not sure which shade I like better on you? Great choices!

I need to make sure to browse these lipsticks the next time I get the chance to visit a Sephora!

    • Hello Tirurit,

I’m so impressed with these Sephora lipsticks. I literally find myself reaching for them everyday. If you get a chance to try these, I think you will really love them–for the price, who can go wrong?
