When I “fall” for a particular item in a makeup line, I have a tendency to reuse that one item because the other colors offered are either textually inconsistent or the wear/longevity are an absolute disappointment. MAC is famous for this type of production. I am a huge fan of MAC makeup, but the amount of collections and high production aspect does hinder the quality at times. I am proud to announce such is not the case with MAC Copper Strip Powerchrome Eye Pencil ($21/ 1.6g.) This eye pencil was part of the limited-edition Temperature Rising Collection in the beginning of June. All four colors are still offered on the MAC website (fully stocked) and hopefully will make it to their permanent line.
The Formula:
I absolutely love these pencils! They are long-lasting, smooth, layer well and make excellent stay alone colors or work beautifully as bases for powder eyeshadows. Powerchrome’s formula does not dry down too quickly, you will have enough time to smudge or blend your eyeshadow to perfection. My thoughts on Copper Strip are the same as was for Life’s Luxury (shown here). The general damper on my blissful review lies with the actual sharpening of the pencil and amount offered. As stated in my previous review, a twist up mechanism would have been ideal. The amount/price ratio could be improved as well. Nevertheless, I am a bit more forgiving if a product will perform as promised.
The Color:
Copper Strip is a radiant copper frost with a bronzy/red undertone. It applies more vibrantly on the lid than when swatched on the arm. I can see brown, blue, green, and hazel eyes beauties all having a favorable reaction to this color. Copper Strip is not so unnaturally vivid, that it would scream COPPER ON THE EYELIDS! On the contrary, the bronze undertone gives Copper Strip a unique depth and wearability. I felt like Elena Glibert on The Vampire Diaries. She wore a copper-colored eyeshadow throughout the first season that made her eyes appear incandescent!
Comparison L-R: Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill #15, MAC Bronze, MAC Copper Strip, MAC Life’s Luxury (reviewed here), EL Gold/Bronze ShadowStick Duo, L’Oreal Infallible #800 Bottomless Java, Prestige Wicked (reviewed here).
MAC Copper Strip Powerchrome Eye pencil is sold everywhere MAC Cosmetics is sold. Your best bet would be to directly order it from maccosmetics.com. They offer free shipping on all orders! Who wouldn’t love that?
THE VERDICT: If makeup could talk what would it say?
Makeup would tell you, Copper Strip Powerchrome Eye Pencil is so versatile. It can be worn as an eyeshadow, an eyeshadow base, a liner and in the inner waterline (as shown in the photo above). Although, I suspect contact lens wearers would find this problematic. There is no fallout, fuss or muss with these Powerchrome pencils. They are so creamy, long-lasting and convenient, I’m surprised MAC has decreed these “limited edition”. Makeup is also telling you to buy these pencils; take note of the forceful, weighty, substantial hint 🙂 Enough said! Be well and stay safe.
